Nice quiet hotel north of Chicago.

My experience at the hotel restaurant Hearth was everything I have come to expect from a New American cuisine restaurant. We ordered the lamb leg entree, pork belly and cauliflower starters, crispy potatoes and zucchini gratin sides, and funnel cake for dessert. The lamb was savory and cooked rare, but had some tough chews. The starters were early the highlight if the meal. Overall, this is more feedback than complaint as it was the best dinner/atmosphere I've experienced in the suburbs in a long time. My fiancee loved her drink as well. Staff was courteous and attentive and the homemade focaccia was a nice touch. We'll definitely be back.

The restaurant Hearth was wonderful. Delicious food! Great service! They start you off with a focaccia and serve it with a delicious lightly seasoned butter. We tried the roasted cauliflower, pork belly for starters then had the lamb, zucchini gratin and crispy potatoes and tried the funnel cake for dessert! Drinks were also delicious. We will definitely make it a point to come back!

A very cute place. Definitely recommended if you want to feel old world charm in the middle of a city.

This hotel have so much charm. The manager Judith is so professional, friendly and make you feel at home. I highly recommend.

Had a very good stay, beyond our expectations. Staff was very friendly, room was clean. Breakfast was great. Will definitely make this our go to Hotel if we ever come back to this area! Loved the location too.

The Homestead is very charming! I felt a little bit like I was going back in time while staying there. While there were a lot of nice things about the hotel, the biggest issue was the bed… It was incredibly uncomfortable. Additionally, the key was a little tricky to use because you had to turn it just right until it clicks to unlock the door. I don't think I'd stay there again.

Cozy and well designed interior with spacious and comfortable rooms. Free continental breakfast. It's tasty but with rather limited options of hot food.

Ready for a throwback to 1928? This is your chance. The Homestead is an Evanston institution. It is now a very reasonably priced hotel, but without some mod-cons. One old, slow elevator. Single-paned windows. In-window air conditioners. But a great location, clean, friendly staff, and a great value. Flashy? No. Comfortable and quiet? Yes. Do the math.

Comfy! Nice atmosphere. And really lovely service. The decor is pretty dated, and lots of things are a little rough around the edges. But it's nice nonetheless. Easy to find a room with a fridge!

Amazing food and a very romantic setting near the fireplace in their dining room or their drink lounge. My girlfriend loved this place and so did her parents when we took them. Very impressive to all that go.

Walking in is like stepping back in time. Excellent staff very friendly and knowledgeable wait staff. Superb food. The Bartender Zach was super friendly even though I had a Cardinals hat on. Would definitely recommend this fine establishment.

Nice cozy bar. Great cocktails, and decent craft beer in a pinch. Zach is the man.

The homestead is a very upscale and pleasant place to visit it's located inside a North Evanston Hotel. They have a very small bar but great food menu items. The staff here is friendly and the entire building is clean and safe.

It's a really great location, but other than that, I'm not sure there's much that I can use to recommend this hotel. It's an older building, so the elevator's a bit outdated, and the room we stayed in was as well. Free parking is nice, but the garage where you have to park is a couple blocks' walk away. The breakfast, while not terrible, was a little disappointing.

Stayed in room 608. The overall feel of the room was rundown, with lots of cracked tile, peeling window frames, and peeling paint. The bathroom featured a wet, dirty bath mat with strings hanging off of it and a shower that didn't drain so you were always standing in a tepid pool of water. Very dusty, dilapidated, and tired room with multiple stains on carpet, bed spread, etc. Also only one key to room (the old fashioned kind of key), so it was difficult for my partner and I to do anything separately. But by far the worst aspect of this room was that the heater (an old radiator) seemed to be jammed on, so no matter what we did (open windows, run the A/C) our room was about 80 degrees at all times. Plus the radiator was somewhat loud, so between that and the excessive heat and noise from the alley, we sleep very, very little. I was with a good size group (four different rooms), and everyone reported a similar experience with the heat in the room being excessive, and noise from the window once you opened it. Mattress was also extremely lumpy, and I woke up with a sore shoulder, neck, or arm pretty much every day. Gym requires card key, which is funny since we were never even GIVEN a card key. Breakfast was stale, old breads, prepackaged fruit salad, and muffins that looked like they had been in and out of the freezer on far too many times in their short and sorry lives.

Upgraded apartments with full kitchen and windows that can be opened (yes! old world fresh air). Gym is a little room with 3-4 old machines, aka. Disappointing. Breakfast is lackluster. Wish it was wholesome/organic given that they have a hearty restaurant next door and they're located in a cute little suburb. Close to the beach and University, so that's awesome but please upgrade your gym and breakfast.

Staff were mixed. Got woke up to see if there was a water leak in our room. (There wasn't) Rooms are small cramped as is the elevator. Location is excellent. Neighborhood incredible with old homes.

We actually really enjoyed this hotel. It's quaint, the rooms are tiny but perfectly well appointed, and the service was good. Up until we left the hotel. Our room had two closets, which is unusual. My partner checked us out while I was working, and missed checking the second closet. He left a much loved pair of jeans and a few favorite shirts we'd had hanging. We called the hotel later that day when we realized it, likely before the room had even been cleaned, and they were unable to find them. They promised to look into it and call me, but they never did. We've had to give up on the missing clothing (our bad for forgetting them) but I'm used to far better reactiveness from hotels, and based on that, we likely would not stay here again.

Nice stay so far. Cute somewhat quirky place. Has a lot of character. Not a cookie cutter chain hotel sort of place.

Historically quaint but bland room, bloody pillowcase and mismatched furnishings don't warrant the cost. Convenient location for Evanston though.

The rooms are nice. The customer service/management was poor, with the exception of one really great man who worked the front desk.

This was my second stay. I don't often come to Northwestern, but this is where I stay when I do.

Amazing historical building with beautiful decor. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's close to downtown Evanston, and a 5 min walk to the lake. The small elevator is a cool piece of history from the 20s.

It is in a nice, quiet part of Evanston within walking distance of lots of good restaurants and other shops.

Lovely older hotel in downtown Evanston. Our room was spacious, lovely and clean. The staff was courteous and friendly. We are back for a second stay.

We loved the Homestead! We came to this hotel under a very unfortunate set of circumstances, but their staff made our stay wonderful and fun. They are all nice beyond measure and will help you with whatever request you might have. Thank you Judy, Sheena, Todd, Nora, Renford, Courtney and any others whose names we can't remember :)

Nice place with lovely staff. The feel of the place is quaint and old-school; things are clean and comfortable. It's great having a fridge in the room!

A beautiful place with really nice people running it. Breakfast is not the best breakfast you are going toget in your life, but it is ok. Near to Evanston's center, I highly recommend it. My parents went there after I stayed and they loved it too!

Comfortable old-fashioned hotel, friendly staff that goes out of their way to help solve problems, nice breakfasts, and public areas. Reasonably priced, vintage rooms are quaint but spacious. Some of the finest dining on the North Shore is within walking distance in Evanston. A short walk to the Davis Street L and Metra stations puts all of Chicagoland at your doorstep. And free garage parking, almost unheard of on the North Shore. Smart and intelligent clientele, many associated with nearby Northwestern University. We loved our stay, and can't wait to get back to this city we adore.

The hotel is adequate. The rooms were clean if not spacious. The TV in the room was only about 17 inches, so you probably won't be enjoying that too much. The AC is made up of window units (the building is old) which are loud, but work adequately. It costs a bit less than surrounding hotels, but is functional and clean so I'd be willing to stay here again.

This is one of those places that you get to stay and remember it. I have stayed at way too many of the chain hotels. Same room, different zip code. If you are going to live life then you have to experience different things. I love staying at the Homestead. It is charming, the staff is GREAT, the location could not be more perfect and the prices are right where they should be. This is the kind of hotel that you know they appreciate you as a customer and want you to return.

I like the location and the ambiance, usually don't stay too long at the hotel. Breakfast is simple but good.
