I recently stayed at Nordic Village (in Jura Unit 69) for a family weekend getaway to celebrate my daughter’s third birthday. We were originally assigned to J69B, but after numerous problems immediately apparent upon our arrival (i. E. Horrible smell, back door did not lock, hole in bathroom door, broken blinds, no Wi-Fi access) we requested to move. We were put in the main level condo in that unit J69A. The room looked much better, but the horrible smell persisted. After already moving everything, including my daughter's party decorations, cake, and balloons, we did not request to move again because we did not want our plans for the weekend to be further inconvenienced. BUT the smell in that room hit us in the face when we came back to our room on the second night even though we had the fans blowing and the back door open all day while we were out. The smell was so strong that upon waking during the night, I had difficulty falling back asleep multiple times, and I am not a person who typically has trouble sleeping. We became aware the next day while out at Storyland that our clothes and hair had absorbed the smell; we stank like the room. When I alerted the front-desk attendant to the odor problem when we checked out, she said they would look into it, but Nordic Village obviously already knew about this problem: there were air fresheners all over both 69A and B and a maintenance person mentioned that some previous guests left their doors open during the day to try to eliminate this smell. Unpacking at home, we quickly realized that the smell from the Nordic Village unit permeated everything we brought into it. We were immediately nauseated by the smell when we opened our luggage. We had to wash or re-wash every item of clothes. My daughter's tooth brush, my own hairbrush, everything. Even the children's plastic toys reeked of that smell. I had thought that perhaps the furniture had smoke in it that Nordic Village had tried to cover up with some other type of scent, but given the extent to which the smell permeated our clothing, hair, and belongings, I am now aware that it must have been in the air itself. The air in those rooms is not fresh and clean. My 3 — and 5-year-old children should not have been in there for 3 nights breathing that air; none of us should have. I contacted Nordic Village regarding my concern and have not yet received a response, over a week after reaching out to them.
