First time here. Really loving the property. Very nice, chill vibe. ❤️ would be awesome if the hot tub was adults only. One can dream :)

The hotel is amazing. Love the look of the rooms, the lobby area and the bar. We had a great stay. Big thanks to Christian who checked us in. Super friendly and very knowledgeable about the amenities and Santa Cruz area.

Best customer service! I often stay here for my little mini vacations & everything is always perfect. The gentleman @ front desk mid-afternoon on Wednesday, Jeff & Devin at the pool & Sienna (I met her a few moths ago but didn’t make a review) made me so happy! After 13 yrs in the service industry, as a local in SC… this is my new spot when I visit town!

It’s a nice modern hotel, clean and functional. The pool and hot tub are great. Good views from the rooms. The best part is the wonderful staff, very nice and accommodating.

Great front desk staff. First impressions are important and these positions are often entry level in the hospitality space. This management team has the right people in place!

Super cool hotel. The pool/bar/restaurant set up is quite nice. Lots of thoughtful appointments throughout the property and the rooms… including a delightful illy espresso machine. My only complaint is the rooms aren’t very quiet (I imagine it’s because it’s and old building that was renovated) and surprisingly the bed was so so comfy (linens and pillow were nice but I wasn’t thrilled with mattress). Overall definitely worth a visit for its uniqueness and prime locations to everything.

Zero stars This property is like staying at an upgraded Travel Lodge. Rooms are small and customer service is lacking. No bell support or valet upon arrival, and when ordering room service, zero condiments with breakfast and no coffee mugs for coffee! Drain in sick didn’t work, light exposed in shower, and the gym was filthy! My 15 year old asked why we were staying at a “motel. ” I actually stayed the night for a site visit, and when I was greeted (late) by the sales person… who was to tour me around, he was extremely offended, rude, and irate that I mentioned there was NO valet or bell support upon my arrival! He practically yelled at me and was completely unprofessional arguing with me in front of hotel guests in the front of the hotel! Really insane! I can’t believe this is a Marriott autograph hotel! Poor job Marriott!

I come here a lot and have always loved this place. The hotel itself is located close enough to downtown and the beach. It is a nice hotel with a great restaurant and pool. I enjoy the staff and always have fun talking with them. They are very personable and friendly, could easily talk to them all day It is not the cheapest hotel, nor the most expensive, but I believe it is the best spot in Santa Cruz. I will keep coming back for sure.

The service was excellent except housekeeping missed our room. It's a great place for kids. I've never seen as many children at a luxury hotel. There were fewer dogs than I expected, but far more children. Adult hour at the hot tub isn't enforced, so it's all kids all day. We had some confusion at check in not knowing the layout as to whether or not to valet park. Your best bet is to self park. There's plenty of easy access parking.

The hotel itself is very nice and so are the rooms. The loudest flushing toilet in a room that I have ever heard. For a hotel restaurant (Solaire) I am really impressed with price and quality. You think high price with a hotel but not here plus the quality is great! One important note Paradox… Red wine needs to be cool! Not served warm.

I arrived at Hotel Paradox a few hours before check in and luckily they had a couple rooms already available. I chose the 5th floor. If you choose the first floor every room has 2 lounge chairs outside to relax on, which was pretty cool. The front lobby was very clean and looked great. They have a few rooms large enough for wedding parties; in fact I noticed one was set up in the front room. It looked gorgeous. I used the lobby restroom and unfortunately the stall I happened to choose was out of toilet paper, not to mention for some reason the toilet paper dispenser was extremely low to the ground. Weird. My room was very clean, I enjoyed the aesthetic of it. The only thing I didn't care for much was the fact the door for the bathroom was a sliding style door, which has 0 privacy as far as noise is concerned. It might be difficult for those with shy bladders. The shower was amazing, however, and the lighting was great for makeup. The hotel also offers a pool and restaurant, though I did not use either of those. I was also charged for parking. Overall I really enjoyed this hotel, would definitely consider going again.

The hotel is very nice. I will have to come back to stay the night. The bar and pool we're very stylish and comfortable, as well as very pretty. Nice atmosphere, nice staff, did not visit a room so I cannot report on that, sorry. If I do, I'll update my review! Thanks!

The service was excellent! The location was within walking distance of the boardwalk if you don't mind a half hour walk. The room was lovely, and the shower especially was huge and absolutely great after a day on the beach.

Best hotel experience I have had. It is so nice and comfortable. It seems fancy, yet is extremely family friendly. Amazing customer service and make sure you are satisfied. The food was worth the price.

We have always been big fans of the Dream Inn, so I went to the Paradox not expecting to have it be any competition… was I wrong! The hotel is modern and clean. The hydration stations are great, but the best part of the hotel is the customer service and bar/pool area! We were pleasantly surprised with the delicious food choices and cocktail menu. The staff was very accommodating and made our family feel very welcomed. We walked to the boardwalk and back from the hote…l and it was an easy 20 minute stroll. The hotel also has a shuttle that can take you there and back! I will highly reccomend this hotel. We will definitely come back!

I LOVE this place! They are helping the environment by going 100% plastic bottle free! The room was comfortable and I cannot forget the food. The chef soup was fabulous! It was a eggplant garlic soup and the tacos were delicious with a flare of Korean kimchi twist! Highly recommend! (See water dispenser on every floor!

What a gem! Very Santa Cruz feel. The pool is great, bar had great cocktails made by skilled bartenders, and the rooms were adorable! Small, but they were truly great. I would absolutely stay again.

This is my favorite Santa Cruz Hotel, this was my 3rd time staying here with my family. Really clean, modern, & comfortable rooms. Best pool area. Good food at the restaurant & room service. Sometimes the staff makes mistakes with food & drink orders but they are so nice that I don't even care.

Love the water coolers! Great bed, extra pillows. Laid back staff. Good is good. Maybe provide sunscreen as the pool is a feature of this spot.

Great place, large clean rooms with plenty of quiet. Lots of families but as soon as you're in your space you'd never know. Restaurant on site that serves a minimal but fancy menu and plenty of drink options. Pool and hot tub facilities are clean and, while crowded and closing early, is very pleasant. Would stay again.

I have spent over 1, 000 nights at hotels over the last 15 years but I don’t remember any hotel where the staff consistently went the extra mile across the stay. We had an exceptional checkin, room service, housekeeping and breakfast experience over our stay. Robert at front desk and Benton in the breakfast restaurant were two of the most amazing customer service minded individuals we came across at this property. Kudos to the management for creating such a customer focused culture. We will certainly return and spend more time in Santa Cruz, just to stay at Hotel Paradox! Oh, the hotel is super modern with very nice rooms and amenities. Definitely worth 5 stars!

It cost me over 300 dollars to get a room here, and there wasn't even enough room to have our suitcases in the room and not trip on them on the way to the bathroom. I stay in a lot of hotels; and I enjoy upscale rooms often. There was a ton of hype over the paradox when it first appeared; so I wanted to try it. The lobby and bar were grand, so l thought my room would be decent, but it wasn't much nicer than a redone motel 6. The bar was nice. The pool is a puddle.

The hotel is very nice and modern. It is refurbished inside but still gives a cool retro vibe. The service is great and they have a really nice pool and hot tub area where you can have food and drinks outside by the heat lamps or fire pit. It is a bit on the pricey side but we had a really good experience.

Great hotel, very clean and amazingly priced for how nice it is. Priced like a 500/night room for so much less! Right off the boardwalk and many places to eat downtown. A quick drive away from monterey for another day of fun! I will definitely be staying here again.

Great service, cool layout / design. Best front desk ever. :) Rooms were average size, but nicely done. Had a difficult time getting the temperature set to satisfaction. Looks like a fun spot during warm weather — pool area is great!

Great service, fun and interesting decor and rooms, Netflix enabled TVs, solid restaurant, and walking distance to the shopping in downtown. We didn't even use the pool or hot tub and still very much enjoyed our stay. Would come again for sure.

Not my favorite Marriott, the hotel rooms open to the outside side, it didn't feel safe. The restaurant is over priced but the food is good. Rooms are clean and modern.

We had to wait in a line for 15 min to check in; the ONE CS rep was in the phone with a guest; the second walked away saying he will help you; there were 5 people behind us waiting also. The room was nice n clean; they upgraded us to the 5th floor because of our Marriott status n gave us free contential breakfast the following mornjng. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant. There was one waiter working at 8:30pm; they ran out of French fries n calamari. The following morning at breakfast, which we ordered the contential breakfast consisted of, a small muffin, a small bowl of fruit n granola with yogurt. They ran out of yogurt, was told that the only option for is was oatmeal. The staff was very friendly but service was poor.

Good design with attention to detail. Front desk staffs were very accommodating and patient. Pool areas are pretty great, with jacuzzi, canopies, and fire pits all around the same place. Rooms weren't overwhelming, but does has large TV. Beds were pretty uncomfortable, old style cheap spring beds. This is the reason for — 1 star. Hardwares weren't all new, but looks modern. First floor rooms gets a small patio in front of the room, nice if you get a corner room where guest traffic weren't crazy.

Beautiful hotel, friendly staff and great location. Have stayed here multiple times and hosted hosted a party here in the banquet room. The bar and restaurant are good. Try the burger.

Clean, quiet, updated. I'm not a fan of exterior entrances to rooms but it worked and was still quiet. Good restaurant, only downside was breakfast doesn't start until 7am. Short walk to downtown with lots to do.

Rooms were spacious. Nice staff. Didn't try the pool, but looked nice if it were a warm day. Close to downtown but somewhat of a walk to the beach and boardwalk.

We checked in at 1am. When we used the shower, there was two inches of standing water before the water even got hot. Clearly, the shower was not draining. IF, and I mean IF, the maid did their job cleaning the shower, they would have known it didn't drain, and contacted maintenance, to correct the problem. One has to wonder, if they obviously didn't clean the shower, did they change the sheets, or did we sleep with whoever slept in the bed before us? This is totally unacceptable for a hotel, and especially one associated with Marriott!

Located on Ocean Street on the way in from Highway 17, the blend between the modern and nostalgic strike a distinctive style of decor and openness the minute you enter the parking lot into the lobby. It's definitely not old fashioned, yet pays its respect to Santa Cruz as the decor is carefully set to what has been before.

Everything was very clean and nice and the hotel is very stylish. Awesome huge eucalyptus tree front desk, pool was nice. There were a few small issues in the room but nothing too major: toilet didn't work until my dad fixed it (easily). Lights were hard to figure out and kind of weird, shower curtain rod was not attached properly and made the shower kind of annoying but the room was pretty nice and fancy and clean. I was kind of surprised there were issues with it.

The room was impressive and beautifully decorated. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The outdoor areas were really nice. I didn't go to the bar or restaurant so I can't comment on it, but it looked nice.

Very pleasant place to stay or visit. Easy walk to the world famous boardwalk or downtown. Several exotic restaurants with in walking distance as well. But, I don't suggest walking around late at night, You may see a more colorful side Santa Cruz than you intended…

The number of times I've stayed at Hotel Paradox is now well above double digits, and I continue to hold this "boutique" hotel in high regard (air quotes because Paradox is technically a Marriott-owned hotel). The front desk/housekeeping, accommodations/facilities, restaurant, and overall ambiance are all excellent. Special shout out to Bernadette, one of the many friendly and helpful front-desk staff. During one of my stays, I was that one guest… you know, the difficult one, with all the "special" accommodation requests. Regardless, Bernadette handled my requests with aplomb and grace. I would not have been so hospitable if I had been in her situation. But then again, that's consistently what you will get when you stay at Hotel Paradox: great customer service. When I stay at Hotel Paradox, I usually do so with the intent of spending a lot of time at it's outdoor pool/spa/restaurant/bar area. It's relaxing, fun (even has a ping-pong table and corn-hole), and "attractive" (generally speaking, depending on the crowd) all at the same time. Hotel Paradox is also very much in walking distance to Downtown Santa Cruz, so it's easy enough to hit up the pool during the afternoon, then the Santa Cruz nightlife afterward. If you are not exactly a high-roller, but would like to stay in a trendy, friendly, and well-appointed hotel, this is THE place to reserve in Santa Cruz.

Really nice place. Full accommodations and great atmosphere. Friendly service. We only stayed a night and didn't use the attached restaurant but overall it seemed really new and fancy. A little expensive but we got a coupon through a 3rd party service. Cool place to stay in SC if you want a more luxurious experience. And if you have the money to spend on it.

This exquisite hotel is THE place to stay if you're traveling to Santa Cruz. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, often going out of the way to share tips or personal stories. The design is modern, yet cozy — — an interesting paradox itself! The food at Soltaire is phenomenal, though pricy. The heated pool and hot tub were the perfect place to relax and wind down after visiting the boardwalk. I'd highly recommend this place!

I enjoyed every minute of my stay at Hotel Paradox. The hotel staff is top notch. They provided the best service I have ever received. The food is wonderful, delicious and the drinks are awesome too. I felt so appreciated and special during my stay. Please go there for a vacation or business. You won't be disappointed.

We stayed at Hotel Paradox on our honeymoon. Our four night stay was a surprise wedding gift from my sister — in — law, so we weren't sure what to expect. Overall, I'd say we were pleasantly surprised by the kindness of the staff, as well as the cleanliness and comfort of our room. We've had a few pretty terrible hotel experiences in the past, so our expectations were pretty low to begin with, but Hotel Paradox has surpassed them.

The Good: The hotel was very clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the bed was very comfortable. There is a great outdoor pool and hot tub, with an outside bar as well, which offered a bit of a "beach experience. " There is plenty of parking around the hotel with a good size lot in the back. The Bad: The park next to the hotel is the sleeping location of many homeless, but other than the first time I walked through the park I was never talked to. It still made me uncomfortable each time I walked through the park, and I went out of my way to try to avoid any interactions. The restaurant in the hotel offers a good breakfast selection that tastes good, but the dinner selection is a bit lacking and wasn't well prepared or flavored. I won't likely eat dinner in the restaurant on future visits. The floor of the shower was made of rocks which were not even and if you weren't careful, could cause a bit of discomfort if you stepped in just the wrong place. The Ugly: The light level in the room at night was horrible. There is a lot of light that bleeds past the curtain next to the door and lights up the room. I could literally see everything in the room without trying to hard. This made it difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep. I will admit to be very sensitive to light at night, but even my wife commented on how bright the room was, so this wasn't a specific issue just with me.

Great locale. Staff was super friendly. Room was clean and bathroom was huge. Put in ADA room though I didn't ask for one but no biggie.

Helpful staff and nice facilities & amenities. During a holiday weekend there were a lot of kids at the pool, if that matters to you. It's in a good, walkable location, which is also nice on a holiday weekend. Some rooms have a nice outdoor space, too.

I love the Hotel Paradox. I have stayed at most of the hotels in Santa Cruz and paradox is one of my favourites. The food is great, the rooms are nice, the pool and hot tub is comforting, and best of all, they have a nice modern design that I love.

I absolutely love this place! The food was great, the people, accommodations and the bar! I loved the design of the hotel and the decor. I will be staying here every time I come to see my wife's family. We spent a lot of time by the pool and bar area, the hotel personnel was super accommodating. I would give 6 stars!

The hotel is conveniently located close to the most of the attractions we were looking for. The inside was great the lobby look spectacular. The rooms of the hold we're really nice very modern very up to date very clean. The service overall was pretty good everyone was nice and every interaction we had. My only gripe about the hotel is there is a surcharge that is for any vehicle parked in their parking lot. We had to pay an additional $10 to park the car we came with. It seems a little ridiculous to not just either include that in the price or have the courtesy that all other hotels have to let you have a vehicle where you stay included.

Nice hotel in downtown Santa Cruz. The design refresh has been done well. The pool looked appealing, but, as we stayed in November, we skipped using it. $10 parking fee.

Under construction, no previous notice. Heater in first room didn't work, had to move. No towels by pool or hot tub. Biggest: left for the day and talked to the front desk to have the room cleaned and the gentleman said he'd be sending someone right over. When we returned from our hike and other outdoor adventures for the day, room hadn't even been entered. Called for at least towels, took 20 minutes to get there. I could have personally walked there faster. All in all, for a so called upscale, boutique hotel, the service and amenities were on par with Best Western at best. Needless to say a huge disappointment, but they comped our morning breakfast (which was overall also pretty tasteless) and parking so there's that. We then went and stayed at one of the many other more classic Santa Cruz alternatives, that have free parking and free breakfast, for a fraction of the cost for our final night in SC.

Hip, stylish hotel with a great staff. Very nicely remodeled with a *quiet* fridge in each room. The one drawback is the neighborhood is not all that great.

The Room Cleaners left a really dirty towel on my night stand which wasn't too bad considering I knew they tried to clean the room. After a night spent in the hotel my mother came over to take a shower while drying off she discovered a stain on the towel in which was used to whipe someones ass yes everyone it was a poop stain… 0. O after we got that sorted unbelievably we were hungery so we decided to check out Solair the cafe in the Hotel, good thing we were still disturb from the poop stain that they were impolite about seating us because they had just had "a group of invisible people come in. " With a crap load of empty table because we all know it takes 2 people to fill up 12 empty tables. However the room was very pretty if my bed didn't feel like a fat person died in it fue to the divit on the right side of the very huge king size bed I don't know about you! But I don't sleep on one side of a king size bed… Not only that but I guess a 19 year old with no car yes I have no life I was getting charged for parking when I have nothing to park which was 10 dollars a night and there's no PARKING!

Seriously. This hotel is advertised as and comes across as anything but a Disney Pool party. If you don't have unless 2 kids STAY AWAY. They do not even take one hour out of the evening or night and declare the pool or hot tub as adult only. Actually the bar and pool bat is even only open ad long as the kids are granted access to the area. It loud. The kids take over the entire areas, and you will get not even 5 min to be an adult if you happen to be one without kids. Go somewhere else! I warn you! Not for lovers!

Great for the price in Santa Cruz. $10 for parking seemed silly but the hotel was clean, new, and friendly staff. Nice resort feel.

The managers at this hotel are absolutely horrible and disrespectful. It doesn't say anywhere that you can't bring your own food and a manager and security guard hovered over my 2 year old daughter as she was eating telling us we had to leave the hotel now they don't allow outside food. Mind you we ordered from the restraunt other food just to be polite. Do not stay here terrible service they act like they're too busy to take care of their guests. The manager also said they allow cake and wine which is completely ridiculous thay you can't have pizza but you can have other food. No food allowed means no food they treated us so poorly like trash. They are completely rude the rules are out of control. Don't waste your money here.

Very nice. Lovely staff. Beautiful upgrade from a prior chain hotel to this cute boutique. Wonderfully supportive beds, quiet rooms, warm "hot tub", close to much of Santa Cruz' attractions. Only gave 4 stars due to flushing toilets from other rooms. Strange as I never heard others walking above us, just their toilets. Lighting in rooms is very low wattage. They have free wi fi (slow), an ethernet cable, flatscreen TV, Kuerig in room coffee maker (2 cups only), and the tap water is not the best tasting. Byob h2o. All in all reasonable price and a nice place to stay. Cost for 3 adults, 2 queen non smoking room w/AAA discount was $285. I would stay here again. Good for families as well, but if you are doing computer business, internet speed might be an issue. Oh, there is also a restaurant onsite that has good rating though we didn't eat there this visit.

Hit all the right spots for us. Highly recommended.

This is the most modern eco-friendly designed hotel in all of Santa Cruz. I love the rooms that have lots of natural wood inside them along with an ipod charging dock. The pool area is great for bringing your children on hot summer day, with the cabana's, you almost get a real Las Vegas experience. It is quite reasonably priced at $250 a night considering how luxurious it is. Please check it out. If you need a place to hold an event such as Tedx Santa Cruz, the Paradox has got you covered.

Definition of Paradox: A paradox is a statement that apparently contradicts itself and yet might be true. Funny because the hotel Paradox was just that, it was a Hotel or maybe a Motel but calls itself a Hotel. My wife and I just returned from a romantic weekend away in Santa Cruz, after what I thought was a good amount of research, I had decided to book a room at the "Hotel" Paradox, my bad. Lets start with the Hotel itself. Basically its not a bad looking hotel/motel, as you pull up out front it is a simple white block building nothing special just plain. We checked in and everything seemed great. As we pulled away to park around back as we were instructed, we noticed an odd resemblance to a Motel 6. I mean it had all been painted white, and black. But other than that it was a Motel. All the rooms are facing out to the walkway where little carts go back and fourth to clean the rooms, it was kind of funny. My wife actually compared it to a scene from CSI Miami. Anyway we headed on up to our room, and low and behold it was a typical Motel room, I mean the exact same room you would stay in for $39.99 a night with free adult movies. The only real difference was a few decorations and some paint, other than that the layout was identical to a low budget Motel. Not that there is anything wrong with that at $39.99 a night, but we were charged $266.00 dollars a night! Overall the Hotel/Motel was not bad. It was just unfortunate for the price.

Good — really clean. Responsive-friendly staff. In house restaurant was superb. Bad — you will have to really keep track of your expenses. My bill was full of mistakes on check out. I had to remind the same person twice about what they told me. The first time was a minute after she said it and again when they tried to charge me for it. House keeping did not restock the coffee after the first day, had to ask. There is also no paradox. It used to be a holiday inn. Then it was a UCSC dorm for a bit. Bring your own toilet paper. One ply in room. Two ply at the public bathroom on the beach. Maybe there is a paradox. NOT WORTH THE MONEY! — we spent ~300 a night for a room with two queen sized beds during summer vacation.

Very classy, clean and new hotel. Love the modern design and friendly staff. With so few nice places to stay in Santa Cruz, this place was a great choice. I would compare it with W Hotels as far as decor and modern feel. Had a great experience and worth every penny! Remember, you get what you pay for.
