One of the coolest hotels I have stayed in, The suites are great, the turntable in one was a wonderful surprise, the staff are second to none.

Fantastic pool and charming staff.

Staff and the Chambers restaurant is cute.

Fun place in the middle of Sf.

Only been here a few hours but this place is amazing! Beautiful rooms, great pool, FANTASTIC staff (especially Mr Thompson) and just a great ethos. My favourite hotel of this or any trip.

Fantastic experience: Orlando at the front desk treated us like we’d been friends forever and the rest of the staff at the Phoenix and at Chambers eat + drink are top notch, too! I absolutely recommend the Phoenix hotel to anyone staying in SF!

The most unique hotel in San Francisco. Old motel style with rooms sorrounding a pool. I have never stayed there as I live in San Francisco but it looks very cool. Nice restaurant and bar in the complex and if you stay there on a nice day, swimming in the pool would be fun.

Went to a "Pool" party where they brought in a famous DJ. Nice bar area/restaurant area but no one attending the event was allowed in the pool, at a pool party. Grounds were fine, fine staff, might be a 5 star if I was an overnight guest, but I never saw inside a room. As an attendee for an event it was okay.

My husband and I stayed at the Heywood recently to celebrate our 40th birthdays. We'd heard a lot of great things about the Heywood, and with Grama in town to watch the kids, it seemed like the perfect time to get away for an evening. The bed was so comfortable, I almost couldn't make myself go to dinner! The room was cozy and nicely decorated, and had a little balcony where we enjoyed a couple birthday beers. The best part was that we slept soundly until after the kiddos were in school! Loved it! Can't wait to visit again!

Went here to see DJ Jazzy Jeff. Bought tickets to get in before 2pm but the main act wasn't on til like 5. The place is in the Tenderloin. Staff was chill. Drinks were strong. And the set up was pretty spacious. But it's essentially in the middle of a surronded hotel building that was outdoor. Good venue. Would come again.

Great location, close to our concert venue. Parking on site is a huge selling point! It's easy to forget you're in the city when you're sitting by the pool, which is heated. The room was comfortable, slept super super good. Great food at the on site restaurant. Will definitely stay again! Thank you!

What a hidden gem. From the amazing front desk people, to the inviting courtyard and pool, this place is a treasure. The rooms are a little lived in, but in the comfortable way that staying at you favorite cool uncle’s house is.

I had been to benefits here but never stayed here. It is quite a delightful place. Very friendly staff and very comfortable, well-appointed room with a great bed. It’s very clean and fun in an up-scale 50’s retro way. The pool is 85 degrees so I actually took a dip before I checked out. Highly recommend it!

Attended one of their Sunday pool parties. Had a great time. They didn't let anyone in the pool that wasn't a hotel guest. They had small indoor bathrooms and 4 portable bathrooms outdoors. They had indoor and outdoor bars.

We were looking for an affordable hotel that had a pool for our trip to San Francisco. We ended up deciding to stay at the Phoenix. This hotel definitely has some good qualities and then a few not so good. First, the not so good. The Neighbourhood this hotel is located in is pretty sketchy. We wanted to walk to the cable car station and it was a very rough neighborhood. My husband took a walk one night to get some Thai food and it was really rough then as well. The hotel also said it had a continental breakfast. We stayed there three mornings and all three mornings they had a few pastries. There wasn't anything healthy, it was all croissants and muffins. One day they put a bowl apples and oranges out. I'm not sure why they didn't do that any of the other days. They also had coffee, tea and hot cocoa available in the mornings as well. Now let me tell you about the good aspects. The pool was very toasty and warm. My son love playing in it and we love dangling our legs in it. The Courtyard area is really cool. It features chairs, the pool, and outdoor fire pit, and Cabanas. We came during a colder time so not many people were using it. But we commented that we would love to come back with our friends and just hang out and enjoy a few drinks and the Courtyard area. The rooms were clean and housekeeping tidied them everyday. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is neat, very music oriented and hippyish. The restaurant and bar had a great vibe.

This sweet and cozy hotel is like an oasis in a kinda freaky neighborhood (Tenderloin). Cool crew which shares recommendations for nice nearby spots (Jane cafe). They serve complementary coffee and sweets (non vegan) every morning next to the heated pool outside. Wi-Fi was very sluggish so keep that in mind, but they got nice USB charges next to the beds.

Phoenix Hotel is one of the most creative hotel concepts in San Francisco. The design, decor and style if fantastic. Perfect location, and the restaurant and bar are world class offerings. Will definitely be back!

Great for bday parties with a big table to reserve next to the DJ booth. Brunch options are nice on the weekends. They throw themed pool parties. Usually, it's too cold to get in the water, but that doesn't always discourage guests. Great SF gem that is often skipped bc it's in the Tenderloin.

I got to spend my dirty thirty and new years eve in this super cute hipster/rock and roll hotel. The vibe was so hip and fun! The courtyard was clean and pretty, very relaxing. I stayed for 2 night's, my room was comfortable, clean and so cute! The staff was very accommodating and kind. Shout out to Laurence the security guard at night for making sure everyone was keeping the peace at the same time having a good time. To Orlando who was the front desk assistant who helped me with my check in. Very nice gentleman. Also to Firas the front desk night assistant for making sure the place was peaceful at night and making sure guests were taken cared of when needed. I would definitely stay here when I am in San Francisco.

Oasis in the little Saigon in SF, we stayed with the family for a few days and we were thrilled with the place the service and the staff. Igor, Orlando Mike and the manager all over the world charming. Highly recommended, if I fixed ire there. Greetings chic@s.

Even though the area is not very welcoming, the hotel is beautiful. It oozes a hippie charm. Front desk staff are very helpful and reveal tips for the city to insiders. The hotel is not far from Union Square and is very well located in terms of traffic.

Nice older hotel with a hip surfer vibe. Older rooms but their clean and comfortable, very comfy bed. Stayed over night to see the ballet and it was an easy walk to and from the opera house. Free DVD player and DVDs to check out and enjoy when we got back that night. Would stay there again and use the heated pool when the weather is warmer.

In the shabby district of Tenderloin, you don't really expect such a hotel with such an extraordinary atmosphere. Cute and helpful staff, clean rooms and more free parking make this oasis, with artificial birdsong, an interesting place to stay in the big city.

We are from Sonoma, on Monday October 8th at 1am we awoke to sirens and found out our beloved valley was at the beginning of the worst fire in California's history. By Tuesday night the smoke was so bad we had an advisory evacuation so on Wednesday we went to friends. Then from there we decided to head to the city. Today we checked in to the Phoenix Hotel. The love and truly genuine warmth and care we have received from the staff is overwhelming. My kids were able to swim and scoot and be themselves. We are so grateful. Thank you Phoenix Hotel, thank you.

Staff was super helpful. The area can be a little dicey but they'll suggest safest routes to take. Decor is cute and fun. The courtyard provides a wonderful oasis of calm amongst all the bustle of the city.

The hotel was great. The beds were comfy and the staff was also really nice. I wish the water pressure had been better, however. An Uber from the airport was only $10! Would stay again.

Amazing vibe. It feels like I've been transported out of SF and into Palm Springs. The tri-tip is a must have! Excellent music and cocktails.

The price for a clean, downtown San Francisco hotel is hard to beat ($200 a night for a deluxe room). It's a cool hotel, nice staff, great pool, plenty of parking, comfortable bed, very clean room. If this hotel were in a different neighborhood, I'd give this a solid 4-5 stars. But the stretch of neighborhood in the Tenderloin is rough. I've traveled extensively throughout the world, and this is probably the most unsafe I've ever felt. I've heard gunshots outside my room EVERY NIGHT. Last night it was semi automatic and it sounded like it was literally on Larkin, the next street over that my room overlooks. It's a really a shame, because it's a nice hotel with a lot of history, but it's really not worth it to stay here when you could pay a bit more and not wake up to gunshots every night or feel unsafe walking around the neighborhood.

Despite being located in a pretty dodgy area, the Phoenix is a little slice of hipster heaven. On nearly each night of our stay, there was a very chill party in the courtyard (featuring a heated pool). The decor is retro / kitsch with plenty of interesting artwork around the property. Each employee was friendly, attentive, and helpful. Stay here if you're looking for a hotel stay that could certainly be included in your "places to see" list while in San Francisco.

Home of the best day party during one of the busiest weekends of the year. I literally don't want to give any more details because I don't want any more $$ and competition for a ticket, but this is party central hotel. It is on one of the shadiest corners in the city, even taken in comparison to the Tenderloin as a whole these days, but honestly, if you only ever came for the party or during busy time, you might not ever realize it. It takes a nighttime walk back past the hotel you've come to love on a night with no parties and seemingly no guests to realize it sits in the shadow of a remnant of a block that is very much how the Tenderloin used to be before the advent of young professionals seeking rent reliefs view $2000 studios flocked in and "diversified" the economic strata of the 'hood. If you like to party, appreciate eclectic people and attractive crowds, and you live in or visit SF frequently, you'll certainly end up here at some point.

Iconic SF hotel. Best for creative individuals such as musicians, artists, photographers, and film makers. Also a great place to crash while attending performances in the city. Gotta love that pool!

I have been staying here on and off for three years now and the experience just keeps getting better.
Location is perfect, if like me you like the real gritty SF, right in the Tenderloin but security is great.
Myriad restaurants of all ethnicities and bars from haute to dive surround the place.
Some of the city's best dispensaries are to be found a few blocks away.
Front desk staff are uniformly wonderful and welcoming, particularly Orlando who on my last trip even managed to connect me to a mutually useful business contact — it's that kinda place.
Definitely a home from home; housekeeping are welcomingly respectful to those of us that keep odd hours ;) and the place is often busy with touring rockstars.

"Alternative" hotel run by friendly and helpful staff. From the parking lot you wouldn't say such a nice place and years ' 70. Large and clean rooms accessed from gallery (or from the courtyard equipped with a small swimming pool especially x children). We'll try the dinner before we leave: the reviews are great.

The accomodations and the service at Phoenix Hotel were the best I have ever had for the price. Anyone that is familiar with SF will know thaf it is not in a great neighborhood, though. Also, the adjoining restaurant and bar uses the hotel courtyard as its own back patio, so the Saturday night crowd was extremely loud until the courtyard closed at midnight. Not a good place if you have early business meetings, but a great, fun place for couples!

Our stay in this hotel is very good, receptionist was very friendly and eager to help. Although going to see a lot of addicts, we liked the area, location is very central. Lack of concern for vulnerable groups of society, are United States the unfortunate reality. The biggest drawback, we require room to be quiet in the morning but the 55th in the housekeeper's room next to the Office. 9:30 A. M. To 10 points, Butler was always loud. We told them to be quiet in the morning, if you like to sleep, never living room 55th.

I was in this hotel for a pool/dj party not as an actual guest staying overnight. Very cool spot with vintage decor and a great atmosphere during these events. The only bad part was that you couldn't go into the pool unless you had a special bracelet which doesn't make sense if you are calling it pool party. Cheers!

The room looks quite modern so that was a plus. Nice location for some food, kind of a sketchy area being in the tenderloin but good hotel for the price.

This hotel has reliable hosts and servers for parties. It has character and comfortable seating. For visitors, just be aware it is in the Tenderloin.
