Brilliantly friendly and helpful staff made my solo trip. However, would not advise walking around the hotel area, particularly at night. Many homeless camping — some literally in tents on the pavement. Potent urine smell and generally did not feel safe walking alone. Complementary hotel bus to Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, etc. Helped the situation but was not always running so used cabs to get around too. Breakfast in attached building was self serve and generally fine. Again staff made the difference. Thanks to them for their helpfulness. :)

One night at this lovely hotel. Love the amenities. All the staff were so helpful. The bartenders were very Helpful. Agatha (Ag) recommended a very Tasty restaurant not far from the hotel.
upon arrival, we checked in and it was time for Happy Hour on the rooftop lounge. We enjoyed ourselves there. Beds comfy. A/C questionable. But we had a tower fan & opened the window. We slept like logs.

Complimentary wine 5-7pm at the rooftop Bar. Complimentary snacks in the minibar. Close to good food. Scary area, but very comfortable inside!

The motel itself was clean and nice to stay. The continental breakfast was better than expected with hard boiled eggs, ham, yogurt ect. Please be aware the hotel is situated amongst homeless shelters. The people from these shelters will not bother you and walking at night in the Tenderloin area is not suggested but the hotel has a shuttle service that is great and uber is another great means of transportation. I would most certainly stay here again.

This is an excellent value for money hotel. We stayed in April this year. All staff were extremely welcoming and very helpful with tourist information advice. Our room was clean, spacious and modern. A good breakfast was also included in our package which we didn't initially realise, so a nice surprise. Most importantly, they have a free wine happy hour on the roof top bar early evening… what more could you want?

We stayed most of a week and it was great. Pam up in the kitchen made my daughter feel at home every morning! Those at the front were very considerate and very informative. Thanks all!

Excellent hotel with great staff. Our stay was wonderful and reasonably priced which is rare these days in San Francisco. Free shuttle to different areas of the city is a nice plus. Parking fee was reasonable for 24 hours as well. The breakfast was very good, typical American continental options. The yogurt was unsweetened which was such a delight to find. The breakfast staff were attentive and friendly. They made sure guests knew where to find things and cleared dishes promptly. BTW, none of the dishes and cutlery were disposable. Such a treat to have ceramic plates, glass drink wear and stainless steel silverware. The neighborhood is rough but I’ve never had a problem with a homeless person in San Francisco. I would never walk any street in San Francisco at night and that is no different in the tenderloin district. I would definitely stay at the Cova Hotel again.

The room was very clean. Good breakfast, nice bonus from 5pm to 7pm on the rooftop free wine with beautiful view of the city. There are many homeless and various freaks on the street… But after a couple of blocks they disappear. Relatively inexpensive parking at the hotel $32 Day…

Great stay! Late check in and there's a reason that particular front desk woman works the swing shift… no personality. But otherwise, the rooms were clean, the complimentary breakfast was delicious and the location was perfect for the event we attended (10min walk to Civic Auditorium). The area (tenderloin) was rather sketchy at times… lots and lots of homeless people. That's why I didn't give this a 5 star. But otherwise I'd definitely come back!

Whatever you do — DO NOT order room service! We were completely robbed! BUYER BEWARE! We ordered food to our room and paid over $50. It was delivered in a bag so I did not see all the contents at first. We paid and left a fat tip only to find that we were missing two items we ordered. The food they did actually deliver was wet and leaking and not fully cooked. We threw it right in the trash. We called room service back to complain that we were overcharged as they did not even deliver our entire order. They basically gave us the run-around to "call back tomorrow. " Long story short, we called back about 6 times, spoke to 4 different people and was hung up on once. We never got our money back or any type of reconciliation… straight up robbed. Aside from room service — area is not the safest but as long as you don't walk/ wander around, you will be okay. Free breakfast each morning was a huge plus… probably the best thing about our short stay. Food wasn't great, but decent. Parking garage is kind of a scam as they make up new prices each time you ask. The rooftop view was gorgeous but the bar was never open while we were there. TV did not have any decent channels and we did not have a working remote. The hotel gave us new batteries but there was still nothing to watch on TV. Cleanliness of room was decent. Overall, I would not return to stay again as the room service situation left a bad taste in my mouth. It was upsetting how they handled it — or lack of.

Hotel is close to a lot of tourist locations. They also have free shuttles that take you from the hotel to fisherman's wharf, union Square and other locations. Very convenient! You do have to pay for parking and it's a bit high, but that's San Francisco for you. Rooms were very nice and clean. They provided shower caps, soap, shampoo, hair dryer and coffee machine. Also, we got complimentary breakfast for the whole stay. Overall, I really liked this hotel and would definitely recommend it to anyone!

This is a gem in the heart of the Tenderloin. Amazing find for the cost. The hotel itself was clean & roomy and featured a lovely rooftop area for enjoying the extensive continental breakfast. The hotel staff were friendly and they allowed us a 1pm check-out so we had time to explore the city a bit the morning after our stay. It is true that the neighborhood has people living on the street and all that comes with that. This may be somewhat disconcerting if you're not a regular visitor to cities, but don't let it dissuade you. It is a bustling area during the day and it was no problem to walk down to Market to do touristy things or catch transit to other areas of the city. There are also a number of great Thai and Vietnamese restaurants right around the hotel for cheap, delicious take-out.

Very modern but also has a historic feeling to the environment of the hotel. Rooms are up to date and clean. Staff is very friendly and very helpful. Rooftop bar has a great view and free wine everyday certain hours. Free breakfast as well on the rooftop until 10am. I gave it 4 stars simply because the area is not the greatest. Highly recommended to take a taxi or ride share instead of walking. Granted that's not the hotels fault for the bad area but they don't have any sort of barricade or security to prevent anyone from coming in. Highly recommended regardless of area.

Great hotel, too bad it is located in a neighborhood where there are homeless…

Room was great it had some view to the city which was great. Breakfast was included (continental but it has a lot of variety) the view is amazing from the roof top it's open 24 hrs and bar is open till 9:00… They have shuttle busses to take you to union square, pier 39, japan town … So that was awesome… The area which is the same all over san francisco didn't mind "family trip 2 adults 2 kids 4 nights 5 days"

Breakfast included with quite a few options, they also had free wine at the rooftop bar between 5 and 7 which was a really nice touch. The staff were really helpful and able to give us excellent suggestions on activities. The only negative was the area, completely surrounded by homeless people and it didn’t feel like a safe environment at all when leaving the hotel.

Pros Boutique hotel, very welcoming awesome staff. They accommodated is with our large (very well behaved) dog despite their small dog only policy. Clean comfortable room. Newly renovated Cons Limited hours on the bar, no room service. Terrible neighborhood (needles and broken glass, bums sleeping under tarps on the sidewalk right outside the property)

We stayed at this hotel on our honeymoon, after a bad experience because just getting to SF our agency made bad booking at another hotel and at the Cova they behaved great to us.
We were given room despite being almost full, as there was a Salesforce convention and there was no hotel available in the city. When we arrived we were already tired and quite distressed by the whole situation and already it cost us to communicate in English but they put all kinds of facilities, they called a worker of the hotel that spoke Spanish to be able to solve the problems more easily, They spoke with our agency to resolve the change of reservation… All the staff were a charmer. Also after the bad experience they left us a little something to forget the bad time of the previous day and put us in a superior room.
It is true that the hotel is not in the best area of SF because it is a neighborhood a little less quiet but from the first moment we informed of it in the hotel, we indicated the best streets to get to the center (avoiding the less safe), in just 10 minutes walking you came to Union Square. They also have a shuttle service that takes you and picks you up from the various tourist attractions.
The rooms are very spacious, they have two double beds and they were very clean.

Hotel clean and friendly staff Unfortunately we had ordered at the travel agency a 3 bed room was only a 2 bed room for 12 days very cramped, unfortunately in front of the hotel homeless and drug addicts.

I had a fantastic time here. The room was clean, comfortable, and trendy. The staff was extremely helpful and went out of their way to answer any questions and address any issues. Breakfast was delicious and gave me something to look forward to in the morning. The hotel is located in a central area, surrounded by trendy shops and delicious restaurants. I always felt safe and whenever I walked through the hotel doors, I always felt welcome. Will definitely come back.

1 star deduction for the environment. Many homeless, but the hotel can do nothing. Otherwise breakfast, staff, service are very good and cleanliness good. Hotel has as I think, a very central location you get there all right.

Service was terrible! The website says they can send up a roll-away bed to ANY room but upon requesting one we were told that that information was "absolutely false" by the front desk… False advertisement is a serious no-no in most people's book. We also booked the room through the conference (discounted rate) and they tried to charge us the full rate. The rooms are quite shabby and not worth the hassle we have been given so far. Avoid this place at all cost!

Very nice hotel very comfortable rooms and out room was also a very good size (701) also had coffee machine and complimentary Diet Pepsi crisps etc (nice touch) room was cleaned each day clean towels etc… hotel staff very helpful and very friendly (especially Matt I think it was) we made use of the free shuttle service daily which is great, Union Square was only a 10 minute walk away. Breakfast also fab continental but great… the hotel is not in the best area alot of homeless people but they didn’t bother us. I would highly recommend this hotel and if we visited San Francisco again we would definitely stay here again…

The hotel is very nice and the rooms are very clean.
The only thing I found terrible is that by the deposit I was charged 500 dollars. I find something unfair I have stayed in better hotels and cash deposit only ask 100 dollars but here 500 is too much that the only bad thing and I try to the lady of the lobby she told me then that if I did not give the 500 dollars did not deliver the room and not It was her problem if I lost the money from the reservation the maid of the hotel very friendly she.

Very nice hotel. Clean, modern, good breakfast, great rooftop, friendly people, shuttle service. The only downside is the neighbourhood. Lots of homeless people. But they seem friendly and no one bothered us.

Very nice room and good breakfast. It's very close to Union Square, on the 38 bus it's only 3 minutes. The worst thing is the atmosphere at Ellis St. When it gets dark, though we didn't have any problems.

Nice place. The rooms were great, the service was great. Price was fair. The view on the terrace is awesome. We got a free continental breakfast. The hotel is close to Chinatown, if you want to grab some bomb Chinese food. All in all, I enjoyed my stay here and I recommend it to others.

Very noisy street, food not the hit.

The hotel is clean and well priced. The staff are very friendly. It’s located about 10 minutes from Union Square by foot. For those who are not familiar with San Francisco, this hotel is in the Tenderloin area, known as a rough neighbourhood. If you are sensitive to things like homelessness, crime, drug use and trafficking, you may want to Uber, cab or drive while staying here and not walk around the neighbourhood. The hotel has a suggested route of getting to Union Square and back and I highly recommend sticking with it. They also offer a free shuttle service to a few different areas of the city. The hotel itself is safe, but walking on the streets surrounding it can feel uncomfortable. Staff here are amazing!

The hotel is in a great location near Chinatown. It is pet friendly as well and that was a positive for my family and me. Breakfast was included and had a good variety of options to eat. Overall, great place to spend a night.

The hotel itself is OK, the room was nice, it was clean, although it had no microwaves or cooler. There is a small gym and a terrace where you can buy some drinks and drink. Breakfast is basic (coffee, tea, orange juice, toast, cheese, cut fruit slices). The problem is the area, as it is located in the district "Tenderloin", an unsafe neighborhood, a prostitution zone and a lot of drugs running between people in street situation without any dissimulation and at all hours (smoking, inhaling, injecting). In the morning it was common to find syringes lying on the street. People were pretty turned around all day and that generates a lot of insecurity in passers-by. I hope that the government of SF can do something soon for these people in a situation of social and residential emergency, with serious mental health problems and addictions, for a human matter rather than merely tourism.

I stayed at the Cova for 3 nights and thought it was a fantastic place to stay. Much comment has been made of the hotel been in a "rough area" but we walked around the area during the day and at night and encountered no problems, plus you are soon in a more gentrified area within about 200 metres from the hotel. Also, the hotel runs a free Shuttle service from and to the hotel from several main hubs in the SFO area. The staff at the Nova are incredibly helpful and friendly despite often having a lot of people to deal with. The complimentary breakfast is also a nice touch. I would definitely stay at the Cova again.

Never think about renting the room in the hotel. The hotel is pathetic. Broken and NO AC. The Hotel Management are racists. There is no air circulation. Mildew is everywhere. Crime rate near by is high as well. The room was so hot that it was unbearable and I asked about the AC. The hotel management told me that they didn't except Indian Summer since I was an Indian. So racist people. They say it is a 3 star hotel but you can have a better experience in the motels. BAD Hotel BAD People…

Love this hotel! I've stayed here 3 times in the past two years. It's not The Ritz, but the staff are friendly and the hotel rooms are clean and comfortable. Best of all, there's a rooftop deck and each room has a balcony. 420 friendly (on rooftop) in my experience.

I stayed here at the Cova hotel for 5 nights and it was an awesome stay in every possible way. The check in process was top rate and the suite was large (KingBed) and the view was spectacular. Enough to sleep with the windows open to take in the view. There was ample space for 2 sitting chairs to take in the view. The lounge at the top floor was exquisite and we enjoyed the complimentary wine tasting. I would go back again and again to this hotel. Located near city hall with many museums and shopping centers within close vicinity and easy walking distances. Many beautiful bright areas to sit and look. Continental breakfast buffet near the lobby where you are greeted by beautifully ornate astonishing displays right before you are checked in with the super polite staff. Plenty of pillows, blankets, and any amenities you could think of are in arms reach or a call away. I asked for a wine opener and cotton swabs and they were brought to me with a smile on the staffs face. Overall a great experience. My girlfriend and I will definitely book again!

Good hotel! Clean and friendly. The area isn't great but they warn you and offer transportation. There wasn't a fan in the bathroom and no fridge. My credit card did get skimmed from the parking garage below so use cash/be careful. They took good care of my car though. Overall, good experience.

So, there was a hole in the bed. Well, not a hole really, more like a gutter on the right side of the mattress. A gutter that would swallow your body and your soul for the entire night. No matter how much you'd fight it, the gutter would get you. Your only salvation would come in the morning when you would be able to escape it long enough to take a shower that would not drain. The Cova hotel is not in the nicest of neighbourhood so I was expecting something terrible, especially at the low price I paid. But I was surprised : the hotel is clean, the breakfast is complementary and the staff is quite nice. I'd use it again in a heartbeat.

Located in the center of San Francisco. Close to Union Square. Nice hotel with ample breakfast and parking services useful in this city.

Very big rooms and lobby. Parking is not included in the price. Very god breakfast. However, it's been the only place in which bottles of water are charged to your credit card when they don't even have a price and it's the only thing that is offered in the bedroom. Liocation is very convenient. However, there are many homeless around. Still absolutely no problems with that.

Great service and beautiful rooms but bad location. The neighborhood is full of homeless and red-light clubs. Not intended for families. Excellent shuttle service. To be noted the absence of air conditioning and fridge in the rooms.

Well maintained Hotel, modern and well appointed rooms and very good cleanliness. The staff are friendly and helpful to help out.
The only flaw is the location: it is in fact in Tenderloin, district renamed for the presence of many homeless. Good breakfast and with various options.

I have been to this hotel nn I found it to be nothing good in that little clean and personal hotel for anything friendly.

Worse area of San Francisco, the quality of the hotel does not allow to forget the dirt and the poverty of the neighborhood.

The hotel is simple, functional and enjoyable. The area is more difficult, but walking by the top street there are already fewer inconveniences.

The hotel is very welcoming and on arrival the receptionist was very helpful, very informative and explained everything to us clearly. The location was closer to union square than I first realised but after a day exploring discovered it is walkable in about half an hour. That said, there are also areas quite close to the hotel where poverty is rife and it's quite a contrast to other more well off areas in such close proximity to each other. I am here with my 70yr old father though and have not once felt any hostility or felt uncomfortable walking through these areas. Back to the hotel, and breakfast. Frank is the host with most. He greets you warmly when you arrive and he ensures you have everything you need and best of all he has two waffle irons and the best advice on making a masterpiece. The rooms in the hotel are very clean and well maintained. We didn't have a room safe on the first night but this was put right an hour after reporting to reception. Overall I am very pleased with the service provided, the warm welcomes received and would recommend this hotel to a friend.

I really loved this hotel. The room was spacious and the beds were comfortable. I had no issues with the place. The complementary breakfast wasn't to bad neither. The only issue I had was the area was a bit scary :/ there were a lot of homeless people on the street but to there defense the homeless ppl were nice and funny. Overall when ever I go back to san Francisco I'll definitely stay here again.

Great, tidy hotel. Very friendly reception staff and the restaurant next door does a great cheeseburger. Using the free shuttle service they provide is a must as the area this hotel is in doesn't feel safe at night. Pretty much within the heart of the Tenderloin district of San Francisco.

You have to pay $30 a day extra for parking. NOT COOL! Hotel is okay for the price. Not too many good views out the window. But the XXL bath towels are really nice and soft. No thermostat only a on/off switch for heater.

The hotel is great! clean place rooms are small but just the way I like them, the neighborhood yes its full with homeless and crazy people but they will not hurt you or anything like that just keep walking without trouble the breakfast is simple but good I like the place and you can go downtown super fast I recommended and the homeless arent that bad.

The location has convenient access to Union Square, and reasonable walking distance downtown to places of interest. Bus access also an option. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms but lumpy bed.

The room was clean and the staff very hospitable. There was free Wi-Fi, as I learned that is uncommon in the states. My main concern was the mattress, it was incredibly lumpy, squeaky, and had a slope where either side was sloping down with a peak in the middle. It made my neck and back very stiff and sore. Having all pillows very soft I wouldn't of minded an alternate hard one. That said I would book again, as long as I don't get that mattress.

Hotel was nice, bed was super comfortable, service was great. Wish I had've researched the area before booking as it was right in the middle of the worst area of the city. So many homeless people and just did not feel safe walking around. Also not overly close to many tourist areas. Free shuttle to a few hot spots but the time we wanted was full so we ended up walking to the wharf. Would stay here again if it weren't for the area of the hotel unfortunately! Continental breakfast was decent although the staff looked miserable working there and not too pleased about having to toast everyones toast in the back (maybe they need to put one out for everyone to use).

Our Stay March 2015 The hotel was nice, the rooms good size except there is no air conditioning in any of them so I would hate to be there in summer. The staff were extremely helpful. Unfortunately it's not enough to overcome the fact the hotel is in a terrible location. The homeless population in that area is overwhelming, not only the homeless but down right dangerous. I wouldn't walk anywhere by myself, or even in a couple at any time because I didn't feel safe. Unfortunately the day we arrived there was a massive fight down the road from the hotel that we witnessed and from then on we didn't feel safe. If I go back to San Francisco there is no way I would stay there again, you are better off paying more money and staying at Union Square or Fisherman's Wharf where it is a lot safer and the homeless population is not as large.

While the location of the hotel is bad, the inside is much more pleasant. The front desk employees were friendly and welcoming. However, a few things here aren't quite right. The room wasn't equipped with your average 3 star hotel furniture, I was surprised by the quality of the room until I realized it wasn't properly cleaned. The valet service was trash, frankly. Upon leaving, I saw that one employee left a set of customer keys in another guest's car before giving that car back to the customer who returned the keys with a confused look on their face. The "complimentary breakfast" was merely a selection of small muffins, plain white bread (with no toaster in sight), cereal boxes, oatmeal, warm orange juice, and cut American cheese and ham. Your most basic days Inn has a small buffet of eggs, bacon, diy waffles. If you want any real breakfast food, you have to pay for it as well as give up your worthless hotel distributed breakfast pass. Staff was wonderful save for the valet service. Overall, this hotel is a joke.

Hotel was okay other then the cleaness of my room. There was white sticky stuff all over my sliding door on the inside, looks as if someone threw a carton of milk on it it. Also the bathroom had rust stains from razors that could of been easily cleaned. The area is kind of ghetto with homeless people everywhere. For the price I would recommend looking elsewhere with more kept up rooms and a far better location. Wish I did my research more about the cova hotel. Parking is also 24 dollars a day but if you would like to be able to grab your car and use it they charge more. This was my first time in San Francisco and wish I had stayed somewhere else.

Good priced hotel in the city. The area is not so nice by the free shuttle but again ok. The rooms are clean but also not very quiet due to the traffic. The breakfast is reduced to the minimum and just ok.

Excellent value for money! Rooms are clean and spacious. The staff is friendly and always keen to help. The area feels a bit unsafe but the hotel provides a very convenient shuttle service to/from moscone/union square, fisherman's WARF and Japantown. Breakfast is ok.

I stayed at this hotel in mid-November 2014. Surprisingly affordable for a hotel located witin walking distance of the Moscone West Center. Spacious, clean, well furnished rooms with comfortable beds and large screen TV. Great service at the Reception desk and at the attached restaurant where breakfast is served. Your room keycard is also used to access the lift to your floor. Vending machines and ice machine are easily accessible 24/7. Be aware that consuming any of the bottled water in the room will be relatively expensive. Luckily there are many corner shops nearby. Not the best of neighbouhoods, though within walking distance of Market Street and the Moscone Center. I did feel uncomfortable walking back to the hotel at night and opted to take a taxi (not too expensive).

Awesome venue! Heading back soon for a Google Analytics Training. Can't wait to go back there again.

This hotel is a really nice one. The rooms are large and clean. The staffs are very helpful if you need to find your way in San Francisco or you just need bottle opener for a wine bottle. I can't agree with all those who wrote about the homeless people. I felt safe every time and there are not even that many. I mean there are homeless people in all cities. So there also some in San Francisco. But they won't bite you or attack you or something else. If you need a good clean and affordable place to stay in San Francisco you definetly should try the Cova Hotel. The only thing is that the breakfast could be a little bit more.

Staying at the Cova Hotel was very nice. It's situated in part of San Francisco with a lot of homeless people, but that was not a big issue. There are some nice restaurants and a cinema nearby. The breakfast is pretty simple, but OK.

Great hotel, I stayed there only one night but I adore, the design of the room is modern, the employees are helpful and listen, the breakfast was very good also, hotel to recommend.
