Very small room Uncomfortable bed AC was not working well Room was humid (weather was not) — box of cards got soggy Only offered bar soap (no conditioner, shampoo or lotion) and no hairdryer Sketchy part of town. The police had surrounded the building our first night. Someone ran naked through the lobby, was locked out and shattered the glass off one of the door. Then hid in building next door. Did not feel super safe. One night, the AC broke on half the building. One pipe froze and leaked and the building became so humid that a deck of cards became soggy and clothes even felt damp. Way overpriced for what is offered and location The location was not too far from the convention center but overall in a sketchy part of downtown. Checking in and out was easy. Staff was friendly enough.

The staff and the manager are very friendly former the way to help people. I was working on construction site just up the block at the Motel 6 is the only face if it allows to use the restrooms and they kept us and cold water it's a place that I will definitely stay if I was needing to run rooms are clean Motel staff was doing their job real well friendly they went out of their way to help us. The manager Sandy whistle kind and polite to us letting us use the restrooms and keeping us in cold water she's very professional just a good person to get to know! I would recommend that Motel to anybody staying in the San Diego area it's clean is quiet the staff was very courteous and helpful!

I love the simplicity and economy of these hotels. Always try to make my reservations with them when in US. They have several locations and price is reasonable (only looking for hotels to rest, take a shower and leave my luggage safe, the rest of the day we like to wander around).
This particular location (Downtown San Diego) is truly convenient. Everything in the area is within a walking distance (Petco Park, Gas Lamp, Waterfront & Convention Center, even Balboa Park). Price is a little high taking in consideration the facilities, size of the room, some details in cleaning (our blanket had an old bubble gum attached to it), but location is unbeatable.
Bad luck in this occasion, our neighbors in the upper level were really noisy. We reported them, but Security never showed.
In the end, experience is good enough every time we stay in these hotels.

I have been loyal to Motel 6 because of the rates and my belief that a motel is just somewhere to sleep for the night and does not need extra frills. This visit was not one of my favorites. There was a roach crawling on our dining bench. It crawled behind the cushions, so I removed the cushions, found it, and removed it. I notified the woman at the front desk, who offered to change our room, but since I found only one, it was unnecessary. The toilet paper mount came off of the wall, but was fixed the next morning. I will note that the front desk staff was top notch.

The staff were great! Friendly and efficient. The room was clean and comfortable. The only complaint was that there was no exhaust fan in the bathroom and no clock radio in the room. We asked for an iron one day and a hair dryer one day and they had them at the front desk. The hotel is nicely located and we walked to waterfront and Gaslamp easily. Little Italy is very close too. Free parking… yay! Would recommend.

The room was non-smoking (with a sign on the door) but smelled strongly of smoke. I requested a room change but none were available. I had booked a two-night stay and when I tried to withdraw my booking for the second night (at 2pm day that), I was unable to do so. I understood the reasoning (the cleaning staff had already neatened my room), but given the condition of my room, flexibility in the policy seemed appropriate.

I accidentally booked the wrong day and the date had passed. The manager refunded be and gave me a great rate for the correct day :) It was very much appreciated! Great location too!

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was okay, but for the price was fine. Issue only came from the TV not working. Asked for help, told it wasn't going to work. Otherwise, the room was fine. The location was great for sure.

I loved the location of Motel 6 San Diego Downtown, and the value of my stay. With that said the hotel smelled of cigarettes, and the room that I stayed in was next to the front desk and I could always hear noise echoing from the phone, front desk staff, and other guests. I slept fine with earplugs but I cannot recommend this location to others. I have also never stayed in a hotel where the shower sprays water onto the bathroom floor, and there is no tub or shower stall. I appreciated the new experience but left my shower feeling distinctly unclean.

Excellent service by front desk clerks, Aldan and Sandy. This motel was just what we wanted, : affordable price, pet friendly and well maintained in appearance and cleanliness. The associates were very polite, courteous and friendly. My family was very satisfied throughout our 1 week stay at The Motel 6 located at 2nd Ave. Downtown San Diego. Thank you!

Excellent location, simple, comfortable and functional rooms. Everything is fine. It would help a bit to improve that the Wi-Fi was good, it's all but the rest highly recommended!

The hotel is terrible! Settled 01.04.2018g. Provided the number 405. The noise (presumably from the ventilation) is very strong. The room was very clean and the breakfast was good. Replaced… On the 408, which is opposite across the hallway. The noise is almost the same, although I was assured that it would be OK. I can't sleep.
The second problem is the Internet. Paid for 3 days. He's not steady, and he crashes all the time. We had a car trip across America. We traveled to 4 states and settled in more than 10 hotels. Were both very nice and with their shortcomings. But nowhere was as bad as here!

The price was really great for the location. Right between SeaPort Village, Balboa Park and lovely downtown San Diego. Quality of towels left in the room was pretty poor, they were really small too. Lights flickered but worked well enough. Staff was extremely kind and helpful. Free coffee in the morning and ice machine were well used during my stay. Trust me, in this area, you won’t be spending much time in the hotel but a good stay for the price and location.

Probably this is the cheapest place to stay in downtown San Diego. It's easy to get there from SAN by bus if you travel light. The single room is a little bigger than I expect comparing to the price I pay, but it looks old. There is no facilities in the hotel and only two ice machines on the first floor. But I recommend this place for business travellers if you need to find a cheap place to stay.

1. There was limited parking available for someone with a van. 2. There was no "Do Not Disturb" tag available. Instead, I put a sign on my door for housekeeping not to enter. They ignored it and entered my room every day of my stay. 3. No coffeemaker. Seriously? 4. Even though I hung up my towels indicating that I didn't need new ones, all the towels were changed every day. (Even though I requested that housekeeping not enter in the first place. ) 5. As I was preparing to leave, I couldn't find a luggage cart. The woman at the desk said that another guest had it. You only have ONE cart? I asked for help carrying my things to my van. She said she would find someone. INSTEAD, she had someone running around the hotel looking for the cart. It finally showed up when I was almost done. 6. My floor was dirty and sticky. I used a washcloth to scrub those spots. 7. This is my first bad experience at a Motel 6 in many, many years. I routinely stay with you on my many road trips. I'm so disappointed and surprised by this experience.

I was shocked coming out of the shower to discover there was no hairdryer. What accommodation in this day and age doesn't have hairdryers!? I called down thinking maybe the desk would have one. Nope. Off to Target I went to get one before my meeting started. Not a great way to start the day. I'm still baffled how you could not have hairdryers. And the second issue was I paid for internet and got to my room and realized I didn't have a code. It took a few calls to resolve this. Not a huge problem and really boiled down to human error, which happens, but made the stay a little less pleasant. And finally, the walls were so thin, I could hear the people partying in another room until 11pm or midnight. I guess I get what I pay for. A cheap hotel room is going to have some issues. The place was clean and well maintained. And I have to say the staff was great! The guy that checked me in was nice and personable. The woman that dealt with my panic of no hairdryer handled it well and was sympathetic. If the room wasn't so "bare bones", I would rate it MUCH higher.

My room had a bad smell — but it was better than the first one they put me in which was intolerable. Otherwise the room was clean, but very minimally furnished. Bed was comfortable and clean. The lighting in the bathroom was poor because they had removed one light bulb (presumably to save money). Front desk was friendly and helpful — gave me directions for finding good breakfast and managed to find some shampoo for me (none provided in room). Good location convenient to downtown and not to far to walk to waterfront.

Great location in downtown San Diego. Staff are friendly and polite. You may store your luggage in case you want to tour around the city after checking out. The room was not clean and the floor shabby, however (to be fair, the linen was clean and the bed comfortable). Occasionally insects were found in the room. There was a weird smell inside the room and in the corridor. They do not provide shampoo so you’d better bring it yourself (they do provide soap). I think what I got was kind of expected, given the relatively cheap room fee.

The staff was very kind, professional and helpful. One young lady in particular who checked me around 10 am. The location was great. The halls smelled like marijuana. The rooms were a bit stuffy. For the price you could offer more amenities such as continental breakfast.

Overall great stay! Employees were very helpful and friendly. Rooms were much nicer than expected and overall clean. The building smells a little weird and the area is a little sketchy but it definitely beat my expectations. Plus they allow pets without some crazy fee!

Thank you very much for the great service! The room was the perfect size. Not too big, not too small. Housekeeping did a great job of making sure that everything in the room was shipshape! The front desk staff was very professional, and extremely helpful. They had maps, guidance around San Diego, and many helpful suggestions. They were all terrific, and I told them that as I left. The young lady at the reception was nice and helpful. It took three tries before I found a room I could tolerate. The first one reeked of cigarettes, the second room the AC didn't work and the window couldn't be opened. The third room needs a new bed. Sitting down the coils were pressing into my flesh. Later on I noticed that a large box was underneath the bed, probably to prevent the mattress from collapsing. I realize Motel 6 caters to the budget traveler, but the downtown San Diego property is in need of repairs. I do appreciate the fact that Motel 6 is pet friendly and doesn't charge a pet fee. The Wi-Fi is dismal.

The stay was great! The staff were unobtrusive and very helpful and friendly. As before, Gen. Man. Sandra was a wonderful combination of friendly. Personality and leadership that brightened my day. I like the rooms but extra for a refrigerator? Come on; my kitty's food needs refrigeration at times, but she still loves Motel 6! (… and so do I).

This location is about 6 or 7 blocks from actual downtown which is very walkable. Nice and quiet at night. The rooms are very clean. Washer and dryers all work good in the laundry room. Free coffee in the morning by the front desk. Parking is in a lot beside the motel. Only thing is no refrigerator in the rooms but there is an ice bucket and ice machines are on the 1st floor. Very friendly staff. A very pleasant stay.

Staff was AMAZING! I was in town due to my husband being in the hospital. I just needed to shower and wash clothes and the ladies at the desk gladly checked me in early, understanding my husband was soon to go into surgery. Unfortunately the motel did not have an ATM at the facility and the lady at the desk lended me 4$ so I could wash and dry my clothes, and pay her back when I returned later that night. They were MORE than accommodating. Absolutely everything I needed and greatly priced compared to other hotels in the area. Thank you ladies again. Wish I remembered your names, the ones name is sandy or Wendy. I did leave behind that 5$$ tip for you at the desk. I hope it made it to you (: thanks motel 6 for being great once again.

I was able to have my luggage held before I could check in which was amazing and I didn't have to haul it around with me until 3pm. The room was no frills, but clean and exactly what I needed for the overnight before my flight. The hotel is very close to the airport. When I checked in I wasn't aware of a military discount, and the front desk asked, and applied it. As a matter of fact — Every Motel 6 staff member I met was kind, friendly, and very helpful. There were some loud people in the hall or downstairs, and the staff took care of the situation very quickly and I was able to fall asleep very quickly. I would definitely stay here again for a quick stay!

We book this location every year in July for our annual vacation because of the excellent service we get. The rooms themselves are basic but very clean. We have never been dissatisfied with the rooms we have stayed in, everything works and is just what we need. Walking around the motel at night is not glamorous as their are some homeless in the area that sleep on the sidewalks etc. But they have never caused us any trouble and our car has always been safe at this location. They have a police officer on site every evening as well so we never worry. Why we continue to stay here is due to the above average service we get from the staff. Sandra and the crew at this location are beyond friendly and welcoming. Any request we have ever made has been quickly responded to and the employees truly work hard to keep their customers happy. My family and I always know we are going to be treated really well when we come here so we continue and will continue to come back every year.

There were bugs all over the room. The towels were rough and smelt stale like they had been sitting in a washer overnight. The entire hotel smelt of cigarette smoke including our room (which was a non-smoking room), and being pregnant that did not sit well with me. The pictures obviously made this place look a lot better than what we actually got. Definitely won't come back unless the rooms can smell better and NOT have bugs. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, though. LOVED them. Everything worked as expected with the phone and TV, but I'm pretty sure the TV was on a repeat because we tuned to the same channel every night and it showed the exact same programming. Not sure if that was just the cable provider or re-runs on the actual network.

Excellent front desk service from Debra. We only stayed one night for the 4th of July. Everything was pretty much within walking distance from the Motel. Plenty of free parking. Clean room. Easy check in, easy check out. Would recommend to anyone on a budget in San Diego. Only cons: No fridge in room. Can be noisy in the morning from other guests checking out of their rooms, I guess?

Clean room but highly priced for a motel with no microwave, refrigerator or even a blow dryer. Way too many homeless around the block and drug addicts that constantly curse at you.

Horrible experience with this hotel. Problem first started with homeless man urinating on our car in Motel 6 parking lot. One employee checking in everyone waited over twenty-five minutes. On way to room hallways smell like urine soaked carpet. Room smelled just as bad and dirty. Actually found someones booger wiped on the wall next to the elevator. Was there 15 minutes before cancelling room and checked out. Very disappointed.

Very basic rooms; 1 queen bedroom had exactly 2 towels, 2 hand towels, 1 bath mat, & one bar of soap, tv, and AC. Room was a bit dusty but not disgusting, bed was decent for a couple of nights but would not be comfortable for a long stay. Motel is approx. 5-10 blocks (10-15 min walk) from many restuarants/bars, parking on site, iron at the front desk did not work, laundry machines available, vending machines. Wifi is not free. Staff is friendly and helpful. There is a security officer who stands in the lobby after 10pm and will ask you for your name and room number when you go back to the motel late. It is a $13 cab ride to or from the airport.

Good service but a little poor material.

They leave the light on for you! Because roaches love the dark… Horrible room! 1). Heater didn't work at all. 2). Found a roach next to the bed. Non smoking room had cigarette burns all over the floor and smelled foul. It felt exactly like a low budget hostel for triple the price. Needless to say I left asap and asked for a full refund. Never again will I stay at a motel 6.

No bed bugs, at least not in room 315… originally was put into room 317 but the t. V. Wouldn't work… there are some less-than-quality & sketchy characters in the bldg and vicinity… prices went from 72$ on a Thursday to 146$ on a Saturday… no microwaves or refrigerators & no Wi-Fi. There is a laundry room downstairs but you obviously have to pay for detergent, etc. And I'm a little nervous about putting my nice clothes in there to either have them stained or stolen… will do laundry later tonight and update later. No security deposit which was nice since I paid with cash. "No smoking" facility but the rooms don't reflect that. Overall, it's in a good location and you get what you pay for, sort of. It could've been a lot worse.

I stayed here from 3/8 to 3/9 one night. There were so wonderful people working here. 1.3/8 Evening: A young guy was even trying to speak to me in Espanol. I'm Asian but from Mexico. He was very kind. 2.3/8 Night: A young lady helped me a lot too. My debit card had a little problem with the vending machine. She explained why with her suggestion. And she kept her eyes on a strange guy who was poking around the parking lot. 3.3/9 Morning: A manager lady and a young man were super amiable as well. I had to visit the Mexican Embassy in the early morning. However, I was new to the area. They searched and informed me the very specific directions to the destination. I left my cellphone charger in the room but it's okay because I keep very pleasant memory with me. Thanks for the warm attitude and service.

Motel 6 airport is great! They have a pool and laundry facilities. The rooms are nice and modern and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious. They also offer free Wi-Fi and the chain is dog friendly. The prices are reasonable and they don't charge any deposits. I recommend them. They are also conveniently located to downtown and balboa park and old town and San Diego harbor.

I had a very good stay. Front desk was awesome. Some of these comments says cockaroaches. I seen none! Pretty clean.

Location is conveniently in the downtown. Staffs are friendly. Services are prompt. When checking out, I even got a rate change refund. The most important is I can bring my dog with me. Thanks so much to have a motel 6 to be available for my needs.

I would have given it 5 stars but the lack of microwave and fridge wouldnt let me. Overall pretty impressed with the renovations, didnt look tacky and seedy. It was downtown not as much noise as I was expecting which was a plus and the staff looked clean friendly and inviting which usually isnt something Iassociate with motel 6. The bed was comfy but the mattress slid down sometimes. But otherwise a good nice inexpensive stay.

I was very pleased when my taxi dropped me of at the motel. Then I was pleasantly greeted by a check-in front desk person. My room was perfect! For me, I was out of the room from early in the morning until late at night at meetings and dinner, and it fit my need at a great price! A price far below the price of the hotels closer to the convention center. Since the weather in san Diego is always perfect, walking to the Convention Center was no problem. I did take a taxi one morning and it was only $5-6.

Awful. The room is tiny and smells werid. The front desk lady gave me attitude and was unhelpful. The area is crime ridden and scary. You can hear doors slamming all night. Yeah it is a cheap hotel but this has been a terrible experience beyond anything I could imagine. Would not ever stay here again.

Motel 6? Never again!
Hard beds, no fridge or similar devices that are actually standard in America on the rooms, Wi-Fi must be bought for 24 hours and then don't even really does work. Breakfast was also not only coffee but also better keeping.
Only advantage is the location, right on the freeway, but not heard, and the relatively short walking distance to the Gaslamp Quarter.
The car park is free of charge.

They don't even have shampoo.

Everything is ok for the price, I chose this place because it was close to downtown san diego, so I stayed there and save like 40 bucks on parking. Just make sure you have shampoo for shower.

The hotel location is perfect for downtown San Diego sightseeing, especially if you don't want to drive. It is within walking distance of Little Italy, Gas Lamp District and the Ocean. A short drive, (or if you really like to walk, about an hour) from Balboa Park and Old Town San Diego. And that is why it gets four Stars. The hotel itself I would rate at three stars. It is fairly clean, (some of the corners in the room where a bit dusty, and someone else's pizza garnish packet had been left under the TV in plain view) the beds are smallish, but all in all it is an affordable and fairly decent place to come to after a day galivanting around town.

The rooms were okay (if you don't mind paint and glue fumes) but if security is going to walk in on you and the front desk is going to issue your room key to people who are not authorized to enter, how are you supposed to rest? We had 5 reservations, We didn't cancel any of them and intended to pay for them and use all of them, if we planned not to use a room we would have called to cancel them by 6pm per policy (verified several times in advance) We were in town for the San Diego Spirits Festival that started at 2pm so we could only check into 3 of our rooms when we arrived because that's all they had available at that time. But we explained that we wanted our other 2 rooms and that we would call by 6, the cut off time, if anything changed. A manager decided that I didn't need all of our reservations and cancelled one for us, she called me at 10:24pm and didn't leave a message (my phone was dead) The front desk checked our 3rd and 4th guest in at 1am. The 3rd guest got her own room as planned but the 4th guest was checked into a room that was already occupied by a 5th room in my party and the clerk didn't think it was important to let us know, I think they were trying to avoid a confrontation. Our 4th guest went into his room (which was occupied already) and turned right around and went to the front desk for help.

Super location, Gaslamp and Little Italy are easily accessible on foot. Free parking in front of the motel. Rooms are very clean and the beds very comfortable, the staff are also very friendly and helpful. Recommended!
