Kohl's Ranch is set in a great location perfect for hiking, off-roading, and exploring. I made a two night reservation in the Lodge after seeing the pictures on the internet of the nice little patios and perfect sized room for two adults. Called the number listed on Google and got the resort management company. Basically a guy in a desk somewhere that has no idea what Kohl's Ranch really looks like besides what is on the website. Tried to get questions answered about the room and the view but reply was vague at best. When asked if I wanted to be called for further advertisement and offers I said NO thank you. Then for two weeks leading up to my stay I was called regularly about other places and offers through the management company that I told I didn't want. (strike one) Got there and found out they where going to stick us in a room that faces the parking lot. A quick trip to the front desk to request what I saw online and after a 3 hour wait we got a room with a view and a patio. Girl at the counter seemed annoyed but still made my request (strike two). Room was nice and clean, fridge, microwave, and tv. No complaints about the room at all. Beautiful view of trees along the creek. Short walk down the the creek was cool. Then I break out my laptop and hook up to the "Wi-Fi" and it's completely useless I could barely view basic web sites for planning our daily activities. While trying to look up trails web pages would barely load then connection would be lost. Smartphones had a better chance of getting one bar of 3g and using them. Data connection was spotty at the location so I was heavily relying on the Wi-Fi (strike three) Wi-Fi was a complete failure so on trips to town we'd do all our internet exploring while eating, getting gas, and driving around. Finally we decided to stay one more night I called the front desk and paid an extra $10 on top of our original rate for the extra night. That was the last straw. After piles of disappointment and calls to front desk and their tech support and changing rooms, and the sales phone calls spamming me even during our vacation I will not go back and if I ever recommend Kohl's Ranch I will have to give a disclaimer. Overall it's a nice place but it's a "ranch" with a very corporate fell. Like this was a homely place once then Diamond Resorts bought it and turned it into something else. Restaurant was good and drinks were good. I recommend looking on craigslist for a cabin to rent in the area. On my walk down the creek just a short walk from Kohl's back door I found a nice cabin for rent right off the water for less a night than the room I rented at Kohl's.
