Everything about this place is fantastic ~ including every staff member we have encountered so far. We booked a room with a partial kitchen for two nights intent on keeping to our 23 hour fast and strict carnivore diet while on vacation. Grilling our one meal each evening on the grill outside has worked perfectly. We decided to stay one more night and are completely relaxing and enjoying this beautiful place. We will definitely be back.

We got the upgraded room. Which apparently meant that we get our own cabin. It is nice, and there is a creek right outside the back door. There is a restaurant on site as well with very delicious food.

We loved our stay. Even our little terrier had a great time. The amenities were almost perfect. The one problem was the mattress in the master bedroom was too soft & indented. I slept 3 nights on the floor! Barring the problem with the mattress though, eveything else was great.

We've been coming here for over 20+ yrs and love it. It's the one place you can really get R&R. We are here in the Horton house and love it with the options of have a lot of family and friends come stay. The creek is wonderful to listen to and the weather is perfect. The only thing I will say is they really need to put some love and updates into the cabins. The carpet needs to be changed or replaced with updated flooring. The furniture needs a good cleaning or replaced. Other than that you'll love it and it's a must sstay

My family and I have stayed here twice now. The first time was in December and we had a great stay. The lodge was decorated beautifully for the holidays, the staff was super friendly, and they had lots of activities for kids. I especially liked how all of the staff took extra time with my then 2 and a half year old. They knew him by name, stopped and chatted for a minute, and even let him see the office. It was because of the great experience that we booked another stay for July. The issues started before we even arrived unfortunately. In my reservation I had listed the room number we stayed in the first time and asked for that room again if it was available. I called a week before check in to confirm our request was in the notes. (I fully understand it is only a request). Two days before check in the staff calls to confirm check in. I again ask about the room thinking it might be close enough to check in to confirm. I was told it was only a request but they would put us in a similar room near the one we wanted. After getting off the phone, I thought I should clarify that I didn’t just want a room “near” the room we wanted, but rather was concerned about having a room that opened out to the parking lot. The room we had before opened to the interior of the property and was safer for our now three year old. This time, I spoke to another person and was told for the first time that being put in the room we requested was not possible as I had booked a different room type.

This place is beautiful. However, we rented a one bedroom cabin but were actually put in a triplex. The first neighbors had a sick baby who cried nonstop for hours. The next day, they left and an older couple stayed in the studio next to us. They had children with them and were up ALL night blaring the TV, laughing, and talking very loud. We called the lobby to complain and were told to call back in the morning when the manager got in. We were not the only ones complaining about this couple making noise. The couple was finally moved to another cabin. We were given a full refund and the management was incredibly nice and professional about the whole situation. Because of this, we will be back, but definitely will not be staying in the triplex again and will request a stand-alone cabin.

Amazing resort! We had so much fun! We went for my birthday and it was really spectacular. The staff made us feel right at home and even gave us alittle present as we got there. They had a heated pool, a hot tub, outdoor games such as put put, volley ball, giant chess, corn hold, basketball, bocce ball, and much more! The views we're gorgeous all along Christopher creek and the cabins were very cozy. Would definitely recommend to anyone and everyone. Loved staying here and I hope to come back soon!

Kohl's ranch lodge is a very pleasant experience, the location is ideal for someone looking for a quiet peaceful time away or is a hiking enthusiast. The facility has a very nice pool and hot tub. A nice restaurant and bar. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Stayed in a junior suite which is spacious enouh for 2. The room does have a refrigerator and a microwave. The room is pleasantly furnished with contemporary look. There is some history of Apache and Tonto Indian Tribes around the area which is very interesting. Nearest town for shopping etc. Is Payson, AZ and is about 17 miles away.

We loved staying here. Our cabin was spacious, 4 adults & 3 children all stayed and slept comfortably. We had a nice full kitchen and a bbq and picnic table right outside. I loved getting to open the door and hear the creek behind the cabin. So beautiful and relaxing! Staff were so nice, accommodating, and helpful! I was sad to leave!

We really enjoyed our stay here. It's perfect for folks who want to get out the country but camping is just not for them. We usually camp in this area but the cabin was quite luxurious. We had a bathtub in the back porch which was pretty cool! Our friends who are regulars say it's so beautiful during the summer when the leaves are in the trees… we visited Easter/Passover weekend and it was still pretty. The pool is heated and there's a hot tub so don't forget your swimsuit! The creek is fun tonwade in with kids (just be mindful of wandering little toddlers). Also I was surprised at how great the pizzas were at the restaurant… awesome quality for an out of the way place. You can also order take out if you want to eat in your cabin.

This place is beautiful! Our room was huge and clean. Having the option to walk around and use the whole lodge was a nice surprise. It rained the whole time we were there but it wasn't a big deal because we sat by the fire in the lobby and played checkers that were on a table. There was a game room and bar area both looked very nice. We drove the property and took a sneak peek of a cottage that we can't wait to bring our family to this summer. It is worth every quarter (it's a little pricey but worth it). Another AZ hidden gem I'm so glad we found!

It's a beautiful setting with a rustic feel. The cabins might be a little too rustic. With that said, they've got great activities on-site like disc golf, giant chess, basketball courts, horseshoes, etc. Great hot tub as well. The steam that time aside the resort is beautiful.

The place was wonderful. You are so far out in the woods that you get no cell service. You can literally look out your window into the forest and a small Creek runs right by the place that you can walk along. Everyone there was incredibly friendly and there is a small saloon that also serves dinner every night. The food there was wonderful and while the weather outside was freezing they have fireplaces that are lot upon request to keep you warm. Each room also has its own personal heater so you can sleep comfortably as well. My only real complaint would be the small showers but that is beyond minor with the beauty of the place and its surroundings. The staff is also friendly and helpful even going so far as to give you directions to what's in town even though town is a 20 minute drive away. An easy 10 out of 10 for this place.

Beautiful get away from Phoenix. The rooms are well appointed. Make sure that you inquire about the kitchenette (if you need one) before you book the type of room. Not all of them have a kitchenette. The only complain I have is lack of internet or cellphone reception. They have free Wi-Fi, but it was not working the weekend I was there. The place was filled with vacationing families with small kids and it made it all look like a very good place to stay.

Trying to be quaint but so overexposed and cheap that it is the motel 6 of Tonto forest. Tonto forest is nice.

Took the wife, kids and dog here for a fall break getaway, stayed 2 nights. The property is VERY well kept, someone in charge really cares and it shows. It was a quaint place with lots of family friendly activities. There is a small restaurant on property that has a limited menu, but the food options that we tried were all very good (except for the chicken quesadilla… pass on that one). Staff was extremely friendly and happy to help with any request. We rented a cabin along the creek, it was very clean, beds were comfortable and it was fully equipped, so hit the grocery store on your way in. It wasn't cheap, but was a good value and we will definitely be back.

This once incredible place has gone way down from what it used to be. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! The staff simply do not care and have no clue about being accommodating or anything related to hospitality. Kevin, their new front desk manager, destroyed any desire to return to this property ever again — after being a regular customer for years. Now a corporate culture of deception. You WILL be disappointed!

Be very careful that you receive what you thought you had signed up for. Especially with the cabins. If you have reserved a rustic cabin make sure you let them know that you don't want the manufactured home. They do not show this online, for obvious reasons, as it is a trailer. The only pictures they show you are the rustic cabins with nice decks and jacuzzis. Upon arrival we were very disappointed after checking in and pulling up to our mobile home. The property is nice, and the activties are great for kids. Brenda is an awesome activities director. Very good with kids. However the rest of the staff is very corporate and not real accomodating if you have any problems.

Kohl's Ranch is set in a great location perfect for hiking, off-roading, and exploring. I made a two night reservation in the Lodge after seeing the pictures on the internet of the nice little patios and perfect sized room for two adults. Called the number listed on Google and got the resort management company. Basically a guy in a desk somewhere that has no idea what Kohl's Ranch really looks like besides what is on the website. Tried to get questions answered about the room and the view but reply was vague at best. When asked if I wanted to be called for further advertisement and offers I said NO thank you. Then for two weeks leading up to my stay I was called regularly about other places and offers through the management company that I told I didn't want. (strike one) Got there and found out they where going to stick us in a room that faces the parking lot. A quick trip to the front desk to request what I saw online and after a 3 hour wait we got a room with a view and a patio. Girl at the counter seemed annoyed but still made my request (strike two). Room was nice and clean, fridge, microwave, and tv. No complaints about the room at all. Beautiful view of trees along the creek. Short walk down the the creek was cool. Then I break out my laptop and hook up to the "Wi-Fi" and it's completely useless I could barely view basic web sites for planning our daily activities. While trying to look up trails web pages would barely load then connection would be lost.

Had a great vacation here! The people here are very friendly, especially Jacqueline at the front desk. They catered to our every need and were great. We swam in the pool, hottubbed, and made smores at the outdoor fire pit. The restaurant has good prime rib and the bar has a jukebox, pool table, and dart board. No pets allowed so we left the dog at home. The cabin we stayed in had a private outdoor hot tub and gas fireplace. Overall it was clean but did have a lot of cobwebs out on porch and windows needed cleaned. Don't expect a super fancy place, but it was comfy and cabinny. One of the best things was how quiet it was at night, except for babbling of the stream. Our bed was super comfy. We will definitely be back.

What a cluster f. K. These people do not have a clue what is going on. No restaurant, bar opens and closes when it wants to so no food unless the bar is open. They screwed up our reservations and then the minute after we checked out decided to charge our CC with another fee? When we called and ask they just said oohh thats our resort fee and wasnt included with the other service charges and fees. Dont waste your time or money. This place comes up when searching for pet friendly accommodations — however, when I tried to book, I was told that only the owners of cabins were allowed to bring pets. I'm guessing they have time share units that are rented out by the owners, but if you try and simply book a room through the Lodge, they say it is not pet friendly? Disliked because I made plans to go and was disappointed when I found out it was misleading about being pet friendly.

Love this little place. My boyfriend and I found this place through a Groupon deal and we instantly fell in love. The staff was friendly and helpful. I don't think I have ever use the front desk so often in my life. This place is definitely family friendly but also great for couples too. We were afraid that we would get bored in Payson but with so many activities to do at the lodge we lost track of time. My boyfriend enjoyed the mini gold course the most and I loved the swimming pool/hot tub the most. They have tons of movies you can rent out raging from kids to adults. We took advantage of that and stayed in our room while watching movies endlessly. They have grills stationed through out the lodge which was perfect. The mini kitchen inside our room was very convenient. We really enjoyed our stay at Kohl's Ranch Lodge that we're planning to come again.

If you want a secluded, classy retreat outside of the valley heat, but within easy driving distance and putting you within striking range of some wonderful parts of Arizona, this would be it. Nestled in a valley with a stream running through it, Kohl's is perfect for families, including those with pets, as well as couples that just want to get away with it for a romantic break.
