Review of Baan Talay Resort 3*

I sit here on a mountain, far away from the beach and restaurants. We booked a room here after staying at another place in Sumai because we decided we wanted one more day on the island. When we arrived we were met with smiling faces and ice cream, only to learm the hotel was somehow overbooked and a room by this location was no longer available but we could stay at the pool side villa not far away. The pool side villa is in the middle of the mountain, with 0 things to wa…lk to. I was told it was a more expensive option, only to learn If we booked at the pool side villa or would have been $500 baht less. When I asked them about this, they made an excuse and claimed it was not true, which it was. We were told the shuttle could bring us to the beach side hotel we paid for whenever we wanted it, but after we just requested the shuttle we were told it would be at least an hour because he was busy shuttling other overbooked guests to another location. We can't just walk out our door, we literally need a golf cart to pick us up so we can get down off of the hill, so dinner must wait. We are hungry, frustrated and not happy with this experience. The really odd thing was when we first arrived at the beach front location they took a photo of us holding ice cream and wet towels, it was nice and felt welcoming. When we were brought to our new room in the middle of nowhere, the same person made us take a picture holding a disclaimer. I swear, they lined us up and said can we have one more picture of the family. And told my wife to smile and hold the disclaimer. Beware the bait and switch and confirm your location before you arrive.
