A great place, designed and furnished with great taste. Very attentive and friendly staff — nothing is too much trouble. I’d like to make a special mention for Ashley our game driver — a highly knowledgeable and passionate man with a good sense of humour.

Amazing few days just spent here. The location is stunning, and layout of the lodges and restaurant really make the most of the environment. We watched elephants during breakfast and had kudu and tortoises wandering around the lodges. The food was excellent, and the lodges themselves are very spacious, beautifully furnished and impeccably clean. We really enjoyed the safari drives and the guides made the experience! Their knowledge and obvious love for the animals, birds and plants that they look after is wonderful. I was reluctant to come on this trip if I’m honest — I didn’t think it would be for me, however I loved every second of it and would return tomorrow if I could!

WOW Mind blowing experience… from the minute we checked in everything was so on point. Friendly staff… our tour guide Rynhardt was amazing… clean accommodationp and the food was so yummy.

Currently on day 2 of our 3 day visit here. Fabulous Lodge, had room 8 which was a spacious 2 bed suite with its own outdoor plunge pool, outdoor bath & shower, as well as inside bathroom, shower & separate toilet Gorgeous smelling bath & shower products Great outside views. We have 4 drives booked & already seen several of the big 5. Our driver Hannes is extremely knowledgeable about birds & animals & I would highly recommend him. We have breakfast & dinner included, the food is excellent, good choices, and very tasty. You certainly won’t go Hungry. I highly recommend this game lodge.

Chance to see the Big Five Animals every Day. Also very easy accommodation. Lots to see and do. Easy outdoors Entertainment. Onsite Spa for those looking for body therapist. Outstanding on site restuarant and gift souvenir shops and excellent and strong Wi-Fi for all rooms.

We have just returned from the most amazing and memorable short break to this awesome Game Lodge. Truly one of the most pleasant stays ever. The BEST holiday we could have asked for! staff were so accommodating and we felt like royalty in the sunset suite, the kids had a blast and only down side I see is that our stay was too short! THANK YOU to everyone for making our first safari an amazing trip, we will most definately be back.

Went today — Lockdown level 3 — game drive perfect for kids — not to long — just perfect — great special price for locals — ostrich burgers amazingly delicious.

Such an awesome outing for our family on this morning’s game drive! Staff were amazing, nature was at its best and our takeaway meals were simply delicious!

Fantastic 2 nights stay with game drives amazing room and pool overlooking the game reserve.
4 game drives over 2 days seen all the big 5 including the family of 4 baby cheetahs rhino and baby rhino giraffes zebras elephants lions and more our ranger was amazing super enthusiast friendly and highly knowledgeable.
The food was fab tried ostrich for the first time cooked fresh breakfast was a great choice of buffet cold and cooked.

I had the most amazing 2 days & nights here with family recently. The game drives were some of the most incredible experiences — our guide Gerrit was so passionate and knowledgeable, and made the experience even better than we ever expected. Please pass this feedback on to him!

Fantastic room, service and food. Awesome game drive, watched up close as a family of cheetahs tried to take down a wildebeest and then a family of rhino with young baby which was trying it's skills by charging the truck to much delight and amusement. Highly recommended.

We were only able to book one night but loved our experience. Two great game drives. Well thought out. Loved it. We were there in February from Jamaica. Enjoyed our experience so much that we also put up our Grandson there in May.

What a marvelous time we had at this beautiful venue.
The game drives were exceptional, and we saw so much animals. Our guide, Tim, made these game drives so much more interesting with the knowledge he shared about all the animals, vegetation, birds, and the game lodge as a whole. What an asset he is for this game lodge.
The chalet where we stayed, was located in between the trees and other vegetation, which made us feel so much more part of nature. The food served at the lodge was enjoyed every time sat down to eat. All the staff, from arrival at reception, kitchen staff, cleaners, etc were very professional and friendly.
I would recommend the Garden Route Game Lodge to anyone who would like to visit this wonderful place

Antelopes and Zebre mingle together, then it's the turn of the wildebeest, then a giraffe that burns to the ground. At the top of a knoll an Elephant, while the antelopes-goats can almost touch. In a puzza two White Rhinos. In the shade of the vegetation two Cheetahs behind the fence.

One of the best experiences I’ve had while on vacation! The reserve is kid friendly, with a wonderful staff, beautiful amenities, and excellent food. On top of that, the game drives were simply stellar! Lions, cheetahs, rhino, elephants, giraffes, cape buffalo, wildebeest, eland, kudu, springbok… They have them all and the park provides an intimate setting as a backdrop for amazing wildlife photography! Special shout out to Gerrit Jansz van Deventer, who’s knowledge of the park and wildlife helped make our experience unforgettable!

Having been to the Kruger, Kgalagadi and Etosha and experienced the animals in the wild wild, it would be hard pressed to compete with those. But this is not what the Game Lodge is about. We took the family deal and the attention to detail for our son was great. On arrival he got a cap and throughout was treated as part of the safari. Every trip our guide gave them a little brown paper bag with some fruits etc. We made some new friends from other parts of the world and really had a fun time. The swimming pool was being renovated at time of our visit, but most people don't swim in winter. Lisa our guide was very friendly and great with the kids in our group. Toys in the room for our son to play with even DVD's at night to watch. Every meal pics to colour in for the kids. Not that it mattered too much to me personally but TV reception in our room was horrible. Free Wi-Fi during our stay was also a nice touch. Food was very nice.

Friendly staff, knowledgeable game guides, great food and comfortable accommodation. Reptile centre is very informative. Had a great game drive and got to see just about every animal they have including cheetah.

Not sure where to start here. This has been one of the most educational vacations I’ve ever had. After doing Safari Tours in Sri Lanka, I was sure I knew what I would expect here. And I was wrong. During our first tour we almost saw everything. Only missing a few animals but heck, we knew the other 4 days will give us what we were looking for, obviously hoping for a Leopard, which is still a rare sight. Our guide taught us everything there is to know about the Big 5 and the other animals. Explained the costs for keeping lions, cheetahs and elephants. What flora and fauna do to the area and what crucial benefit animals can be. Something you forget in your daily life. We are destroying our ecosystem in such a fast pace that the animals can’t keep up. This hopefully didn’t only open my eyes to be a bit more green towards our planet. After Day 3 we still had the same guide (thankfully! ) and I had the spot in the front of the jeep. He showed us and the other people on our jeep so much diversity that I didn’t even expect. After seeing cheetahs for 2 times you think theres nothing else they can do. We saw them playing with each other, we saw them hunt. We saw elephants giving each other kisses and we were even allowed to feed them one evening (currently get treatment for abscess. ) We saw Wildebees (gnu) barking, we had Giraffes as close as 2m of the jeep. We had rhinos being stuck in bushes and hippos in waterholes.

Wonderful experience for the whole family we would gladly recommend.

What a perfect way to end our trip in South Africa. My mother and I enjoyed a lovely three days at Garden Route Game Lodge. We booked the spa package and got a massage, stayed in one of the beautiful chalets, and really enjoyed the safari trips, as well as the delicious breakfasts and dinners. Just a great, relaxing time and a wonderful way to celebrate Africa's big five. I would highly recommend it!

Spa experience is a joke. I had a "Deep tissue", but applying cream on myself at night is a more satisfying experience. I asked the masseuse to apply more pressure and she just giggled an "ok".

Very secluded place. Will recommend any day. Staff and guides great. Rooms nice and spacious.

Recently photographed one of their last weddings and have visited their Sunday Lunch and Game Drive specials, fantastic people, fantastic experience. A great to-do for all local residents and day visitors.

Fantastically beautiful, competent people, unique service.

Nice to eat and relax at the lodge, if they actually allow locals to. Unfortunately they decline local patrons at their restaurant for some obscure reason. This fact makes me avoid this place and also discourage others from visiting. I find that the attitude towards local paying customers or potential customers leaves much to be desired. If it were my place, I'd be happy to serve anybody willing to spend their money at my venue, local or otherwise.

Like a big zoo. Our ranger was able to show us quite a bit and we have great shots. The rooms (cottage) are fine, but a bit small. The food was unfortunately not as expected but that is probably due to the size of the lodge. Recommended for one night definitely.

We had two wonderful days at the GRGL. Great location, not far from Cape Town, beautiful rooms/chalets, great organized game drives and delicious food. You can easily explore the area on your own during the day or take a tour to the Reptile Park. The Game Drives were the best experience we've ever made — thanks to our guide Calvin. Definitely worth a visit (they have cheetah cups right now… just adorable) and we come back!

This is our 3rd visit to the game lodge and every time we come there are new and exciting animals to see. The accommodation is wonderful, comfortable and have the most spectacular views. The staff are so helpful and friendly they make you feel like part of the family. The rangers have an absolute wealth of knowledge not only about the animals but also the bird life and flora, They try their utmost to find and show you the maximum amount of big game and park up so close for those special photo moments. The food served in the Serengeti restaurant is top notch and so fresh. If you're staying a couple of days the spa is worth checking out too, fantastic massages with an exceptional view of the reserve. All in all I can't rate the garden route game lodge highly enough.
SUPERB … well done guys.

As Reserves go, this one is about as ethical as it gets. Lots of land. Only the Elephants and Lions are ranged separately from the rest to protect overall flora and fauna populations and intermingling of special herds is common. Herd numbers generally increase and decrease per natural birthing cycles although buying and selling are practiced to maintain populations which can be sustained on available land. Safety-minded, energetic, knowledgeable, and determined guides with lots of game drive amenities for winter rides; warm ponchos at night plus hot water bottles/pads to stave off the morning frost. Robin ensured all queries were explored and answered and was an absolute professional with the vehicle. The accommodation was charming, warm, and comfortable. Turn-down service an unexpected but welcome surprise. Firm and quiet mattress, warm blankets, solid water-pressure. Excellent meal service and food choices; fires in the hearth at dinner and breakfast made our stay warm and comfortable.

4 stars only for the guides and the tour. The hotel deserves maybe 2. Ask if is possible to feed the elephant in the evening safari. Nice experience. Very well prepared guides gave us complete knowledge about animals and the game reserve. Unfortunately our experience in the hotel was almost awful. They miss the reservation upon arrival, they provide love safari package only after we complained that we didn't receive (but we paid) and with the rose petals (fake) we found a piece of box of condom. Moreover they didn't provide anything to excuse the fact. It's a big pity. 4 starts just to sustain the game reserve. Thank you Hannes for the beautiful experience.

Garden Route Game Lodge is AMAZING! The safari drives are wonderful, fun, and informative. The food is delicious. The spa services are relaxing and amazing. The staff is so kind and helpful! The drive to Garden Route from Cape Town is gorgeous, and Garden Route Game Lodge is very reasonably priced. We stayed for two nights and three days, which is a great amount of time, but I would have liked one more day and night because it was so great :) I cannot say enough good things about this place. Don't walk there, run!

It was favulous. I want to visit again.

Living in Cape Town and having family in the eastern Cape I've often driven past the entrance and wondered what was behind the security gates hut. Well we took the opportunity to stay as my wife and I would be kiddless for the weekend. For a five star lodge I was disappointed however being in the trade and realising this was mainly for international guests I realised that someone had created a very sort after international experience staying and experiencing what this lodge has to offer. The big five game, massive fires, plenty good southern African food, typical young South Africans, big bars with plenty service. On the whole a perfect destination for international guests and avid nation game lovers, but not my cup of tea.

We got a discount that made this place affordable. Great food and lodging.
