We booked this property via an online site and had to cancel within 24 hours after we made the booking due to unforeseen circumstances that were out of our control. We were very transparent with regards to our situation and the booking had a 2 day FREE cancellation policy. We let the host know on Wednesday (2 days prior) and she ended up charging my card for the full amount — even after explaining our reasons for cancelling which was totally out of our hands. When I messaged her this morning about the card verification issue we had she said I must call her tomorrow because she was at a wedding.
No communication or trying to negotiate, just blocked calls and numbers. The host also only let us know AFTER the booking was confirmed that there was only on-street parking available, when the ad clearly states off-street parking. If my husband could even travel to Cape Town, we probably would have had to cancel for this reason alone due to the fact that we've already had 4 wheels stolen off our car when it was parked on the street in the same area. This is false advertising! I thought it was perhaps a language barrier but alas, she is just plain rude. Yes, we know there are policies in place, but considering the timing and the circumstances, a little bit of understanding would have gone a long way. The Booking. Com agents said that even though their policies are strict, the hosts can always make exceptions, which is the least they can do.
