As a traveller, here are things that we usually look for in a place to stay in a foreign country:
Clean and comfortable bed and room (everyday maintenance, every 12 noon to 3pm) Complete amenities (lodge41 has aiconditioned rooms, if you are not satisfied, you can turn on the ceiling fan; lamp shade in your own bunk; heater (their wash room has tissue and liquid soap/shampoo) ; trashbins; lockers (you have your own key for the locker and card for the room) ; laundry (this is free, you just need to buy your own soap) ; library and computer room (if you have no computer, they have two laptops that you can use and free Wi-Fi, and several books to choose from. Their library has its own toilet, no need to go back to your room. ) ; kitchen (has a couch, tables and chairs that you can share with others, honesty snack bar (all food is $2), oven, rice cooker, sink, plates, spoon and fork, knife, cup, heater, toaster, free continental breakfast (bread with several spread to choose from (jams, chocolate, mayo or peanutbutter) ; you can also opt to share your food or let others know that your food is not for sharing by putting a stucker in it available right beside the honesty snack bar (by the way, there's music played in the kitchen) ; movie room (both previous and present movies are available) it has a cofortable couch, airconditioner, toilet, play station, and you can also eat inside or even sleep; adaptors and blowers are also available by request.
Other things to note:
Footwear are left on the sides after entering the entrace doors and before reaching the front desk.
Show your passport upon chek. In
$10 deposit is required for the locker key and room key card but it is returned after checking out
Breakfast is open starting 6am
The buukding has 4 floors
No escalator or elevator. But if you have a luggage, Albert (the staff) can help you bring your stuff. He is really smiling and very helpful. Oh, and generous too!
The staff is a filipino
The manager and owner are both Chinese
All of them are very helpful and friendly

Shops are nearby as well (food centers, small shops like fruut stand, electronic shops, printing shop, 7-eleven. )
MRT is about 10-15 minute walk
Bus stop is about 3-5 minute walk
P. S. The lodge is located in the red district of singapore. But, nonetheless it is safe. For ladies, I still recommend you don't go alone roaming aeound at night in thus area as there are a lot of men in the streets during night time.
