Quite possibly the coolest place I’ve ever stayed. I could have spent my entire vacation wandering the hotel and reading and taking naps in various sitting areas. The view from the roof is gorgeous. The staff is friendly and helpful. The owner might be the coolest person ever! I didn’t get a chance to meet her, but I did see her at the Cannon Club looking chic and hanging out with her birds. This place was amazing.

The facility is poorly kept. Our room featured sweat stained smelly pillows, leaking bathroom shower, water intrusion when it rained, dirty musty bedspreads and a toilet stained with urine and faeces. Your staff should have made you aware that we checked out on Friday to spend the remainder of our stay at the El Convento and that a refund should be processed immediately. I have.

One of the most amazing, creative and interesting hotels I’ve been in! Every room is unique and the hanging out spaces are unlike any other. Rooftop view is breathtaking and the basement bar and passageways are a true historic journey. You have to stay here!

A unique experience, lovely accommodations.

The phrase if walls could talk takes an entire new meaning, as they speak volumes of art and history throughout every nook, sitting area, terraces. This place is incredibly inspiring, welcoming, accommodating & amoung the most unique places I've ever had the privilege of dwelling.

What a great place! Ignacio and the entire staff were super helpful and enjoyable. The building is magnificent. Full of eye catching art, interesting spots to hangout and an incredibly intriguing, authentic/historic feel, throughout. The room could not have been any more perfect. Stayed in the ocean room which had one of the best balcony/views, I have ever stayed in. No doubt I’d return again. Great location with much to do in the area and easy to to get to all kinds of fun things to get into. Several sweet beaches, within a 20 minute drive/taxi ride.

Beautiful niche hotel! If you love art and classic old architecture, this is the place for you! It was great chatting with the owner and her sister!

The hotel is awesome, unique, romantic room, you could feel peace, relax, excellent piano bar, pool very mediterranean style, view outside to sea and Old San Juan. I want come back coming soon!

Everything is amazing. Love this place very much, the rooms are beautiful and so unique. Staff are very polite, only thing I did not like was that their restaurant opens only at 4pm… so that means we had no drinks or food at the pool until 4pm. I highly recommend this place ans bring your on alchool if you want to have a good time at the pool.

The Gallery Inn is not a hotel by any stretch of the word; it is theatre— a wildly lush and tropical stage that invites strange musings best suited for beautiful people who thrive in the extraordinary.

I wish we were “trapped” there. A few years back, after a week living aboard in the BVI, we stopped in at The Gallery Inn to get our land legs back. What a beautiful space, great hosts, and the birds!

A magnificent historic, romantic setting with Ocean views. Beautifully and eclectically decorated with period furnishings, art work, gardens & stairwells leading you to other levels also filled with art & gardens as well as the rooftop with views of the city & ocean. A place to unwind with no TV but instead to take in and appreciate the history and eclectic setting that The Gallery Inn offers.

We had an absolutely amazing time here! Jan was a fantastic host and a dear friend. Such a great find on hotels. Com! We stayed here for 2 days before our cruise and it was a mini vacation before our actual vacation. We were able to see and do almost the entirety of Old San Juan. We are already making plans to return!

This is a beautiful, unique, romantic place to stay. There is amazing art work, exotic birds, and isa perfect location for viewing Old San Juan. This is must stay.

The Gallery Inn is, no contest, the most beautiful place I've ever stayed. Each common area is unique and full of artistic wonders. The walls are practically dripping with class and culture. We were fortunate to enjoy the Nico room, which has a lovely oceanfront balcony view. I only regret that we were unable to stay longer.

Staff are the best, and every inch of the inn is filled with character. One of the best stays we've ever had.

The Gallery Inn is a quirky, fantastic and pretty hotel. I've never stayed anywhere quite like it. If you're after a sterile, white-washed walled, generic hotel, then this isn't the place for you. But if you want beautiful terraces, excellent bar, quirky yet comfortable rooms situated in an excellent location in Old San Juan, then this is the place. Highly recommended!

Unbelievable! Must see place. Must Must go. The whole experience is beautiful. The patio, pool, music… all of it. Do NOT miss it if you're in old San Juan.

This place was jaw-dropping! It was incredibly beautiful, the staff was friendly and I loved the tropical birds living there. There were amazing restaurants within walking distance. I can't wait to return.

Funkiest hotel I've ever been at! Interesting artwork is everywhere and the architecture is crazy. In the areas that matter most hotel: my bed and room was clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. It was a great home base to explore Old San Juan on foot. I would absolutely stay here again!

The worst hotel that can exist in old san juan. I had to leave a day earlier because of the horrible ness of the place and I didn't get my money back. Pillows and frisas suck, there is no space, the tubes and slabs were dirty. The bathtub doesn't have enough water pressure, so I couldn't bathe well either. There's no privacy. You could hear everything that was going on in the next "room. " The rooms are uncomfortable. Dark place with little security. The people there are not helpful or friendly. No one has a good attitude there. The worst place in puerto rico. I understand they must close it.

Didn't stay but went to the best party in the courtyard. Magical space. Go!

Likely my favorite place to visit in old town! The history alone of this place is beautiful, top it off with the historical conservation, personal art and majestic views you won't miss with this place. Seriously too much to list. Built in the 1700s, owned by the same person since the 1960s, history and art abound!

Amazing place. Just steps from the main historical sites and Despacito's birthplace La Factoria!

My husband and I stayed in the Dr. Joe room for 2 nights in early May on the second floor with an ocean view, prior to boarding a cruise. We loved the uniqueness of the property and how easy it is to walk to the sites in Old San Juan. We were able to attend the Gil & Figueroa Duo Piano Concert thanks to the Steinway Society/ Canon Club and believe the concert was the highlight of our visit to your island. The many quiet spots around the property to eat the purchased hot breakfast (wonderful) or just relax with drinks in the evening were wonderful too! We do not recommend the property to people with hip or back problems, as the stairs around the property are beautiful but are constructed uneven and not standardized size. I am unsure if it would be consider handicap accessible too.

We stayed in a king room facing the ocean, called Dr. Joe. To be absolutely exceptional the room could have a bathroom fan and a better toilet seat, and generally the hotel should have more drinking water available, especially at breakfast.

Never stayed here yet but love the bar and the whole vibe here. Parrot plays music everyone is so happy and nice.

Good place but you need to fix several details, because it looks abandoned. Ceiling fans are very dirty and in some respects do not make a good impression.

If you pass by San Sebastián Street and see the piano that plays just for and enters. You will find a bartender who knows, a quiet room, and very friendly guests.

Disgusting place due to the unprofessional staff. I’m a Doctor that visit PR twice a year for business but I look really young so I guess they thought I was the person to play with that day. So yesterday I arrived to PR and booked this hotel but arrived 4 hours prior to check-in so I left my luggage to go have lunch. While having lunch I get an email stating my credit card that I used didn’t go thru due to being out of my area then I walked back to hotel to let them know & handed the receptionist another card. All I heard her say “what’s going with this computer” then I logged into my account and the transaction was successful but also they attempted 4 times! She is telling me it’s declined then calls manager who doesn’t know what she is doing because she kept saying it’s declined. Finally I get my bank on the phone and manager finally admits (after 20 mins) it was processed then voided so that makes it a successful transaction. In order to clear the whole issue my bank had to explain to manager how to find the authorization number which they needed to clear the transaction which leading into them sending a letter to my bank (2 hours later) Now this is the reason why the staff is disgusting because when all this was going on in the beginning (prior to her solving their error) they didn’t think I was sitting in the waiting area of the hotel so the manager went talking away to the staff about me.

Great boutique hotel in Old San Juan. The place feels like an open air museum. Lots of beautiful art, parrots and the rooms all look very colonial. The owner is a very interesting and friendly American lady. Highly recommended!

The Gallery Inn is stunning… not in a five star hotel way… but in the most amazing way. You can get lost in all of the art. I even happened upon a woman creating a painting in one of the meeting rooms. A must see in Old San Juan!

This is an absolute special experience. The hotel is made up of several old buildings. By old I mean centuries-old. The decor is a mix of Spanish furniture and artwork that is made by the owner as well as collections by other artists. For people looking for televisions and room service this is not the hotel for you if you are looking for a unique beautiful hotel that is unlike any other it is perfect. And for couples it is extremely romantic.

One of the best games laced in have ever stayed at. You walk through the front door and are transported another place in time. Ian and her staff are very accommodating and go out of their way to make guests comfortable. Our room was clean and well appointed with a great view of the sea. I can’t wait to visit again. I would recommend this place to anybody that wants an experience the adventurous and cultural side of Puerto Rico.

We stayed here October 2016. It was amazing. If you are looking for the same old cookie cutter room you can go anywhere for you will be disappointed. If you are looking at staying in a unique place that has charm and character around every corner this is the place to go. The price was great. The food was good and the service was awesome. The owner should be proud of the establishment and staff. We will definitely go back and stay longer.

This Hotel is like a colonial age museum. If you are into that type of lodging this place is for you. It depicts the beautiful antique spaniard architecture. It lacks of accessibility for the handicapped people. It also lacks of the luxuries you may be accustomed from the regular hotels. I would say it is not for every person, just for the ones who are into historical places.

Amazing artsy boutique hotel located in the heart of viejo San Juan. As you walk into the gate you will find parrots which later you can find by the pool. You can spend a day just exploring this hotel. Staff is friendly and spent the evening talking to the owner and her friend the pianist. The piano bar is a lot of fun filled with very interesting people if you want to exchange ideas and stories. Loved this hotel and would definitely stay here if I come and visit Puerto Rico again.

I love everything about this hotel… is different, unique with a lot of history! I stay in the caracol room. Clean and simple. Beware that some of the rooms are a little challenging to reach for people with disabilities. We parked in La Puntilla only a 5 min walk. I paid 21 for the weekend. I loooooove the exotics birds… because I own one… so its feel like home. The continental breakfast was good for us. Bagels. Corn bread. Coffee and cereal. Each part of the hotel tells a story! The sound of the piano at nights and all the water fountains feels so relaxing and the rooftop is breathtaken! We don't want to leave ; (

Great location and great views! The staff are quite friendly and helpful. Their collection of birds is a great bonus feature. The building itself is wonderfully quirky with twists and turns and it is full of character. Our room was lovely, spacious, relaxing and replere with old world charm. But the best part of our stay was that this place was so different. And the chance to enjoy Old San Juan was priceless. The room rates were rather fair given the product they offer. I would recommend this place without hesitation.

Really cool, quaint hotel in Old San Juan and by the sea. The hotel itself was beautiful and very well curated. The service, however was lacking, the bathroom in our room was too small to even fit 1 person in, and the walls were ridiculously thin. The breakfast is free, but really all that gets you is some cereal and coffee and sad bread. If you want anything substantive you have to pay extra $$. All together this hotel really has potential but I don't think it was worth the price. At ~$300 a night I expected a higher-end boutique hotel with better service.

Delightful ambience, art, kind staff, nice location. Terrible continental breakfast, and very expensive a la carte menu, so don't come for the food.

One of the most unique places to stay you will ever see. From the artwork, to the statues and busts, there is literally surprises around every corner. One of the best views in Old San Juan, check out the rooftop terrace from one of the highest spots on the island. Take a dip in the submerged ruins swimming pool. Be your own bartender at the honor bar. Experience the Gallery and all the history that awaits.

I expected something better, while it is true that the view is spectacular and has a good location, for me the most important is the cleaning and there were cockroaches in my room, something I do not tolerate and simply this is not the place for me.

I stayed here awhile back and never go around to writing a review. I am visiting a friend in Puerto Rico this summer and was browsing for a nice hotel in the old district in which I came across the Gallery Inn so I thought I would write a review about why I am not revisiting this hotel. It's not fair to say the entire experience was a disaster. More so, it was the result of one or two employees. A young girl working there who was from LA had called my room inviting me and any guest to the beach house for an afternoon glass of wine. She told me the car ride to the house would be leaving in 15 mins. I told her I would love to and would be down in 5 mins. When I walked down to the lobby she was already pulling out of the lot with other guest. The front clerk apologized and she was suppose to wait. I was livid when she did this again the second day. And from then on I received poor hospitality from her and some of the other staff throughout the week. When I would ask for advice or suggestions on site to see I would receive mono responses with little interest in helping me or socializing at the least. I'm not sure what I did to receive this kind of treatment? I tipped fairly for services such as the nice dinner I had with my friend in the courtyard, $30 tab — $8 tip, yup that's fair. I guess she was just a little hipster from LA and the other staff were following her lead. I consider myself a friendly person who has worked in hospitality and knows how to treat guest with respect.

This was the most beautiful hotel I've ever stayed at, just stunning. We had breakfast most mornings by the pool before venturing out and I took tons of photos of the lizards and birds running around everywhere. It's not a Hilton — but if you want to stay somewhere unique and full of beauty and character that will really add to your trip, this is where you need to be. Also, the beds were comfortable, the staff was kind and courteous and the food was superb. I would absolutely stay there again.

Best hotel I've ever stayed in. The Gallery Inn is quaint, and every little corner is packed with cute little artsy details. It's a bunch of inter-connected old houses in the old city. The views are terrific, the service fantastic. Already planning my next trip here! 10/10 would stay again.

First review ever but have to share. High expectations just arriving from the swanky W in Vieques, The Gallery Inn topped it off. Beautifully authentic and charmingly personable. We arrived into lush, exotic bird adorned courtyard/check in, after settling in we discovered eclectic open air "living areas", rooftop with view of well everything, patios serving breakfast/dining cocktails overlooking small pool. In evening have a cocktail on patio and ask Felix to play a couple songs for you. Note, some rooms are quite small but there are many comfy courtyards and sitting areas provided for relaxing largely.

Dingy, dingy, dingy hard to find no signs at all, not good locations, near nothing but fort, to far of walk to main part of old san juan, no ac, too expensive. Even beds were horrible uncomfortable, pool way nicer than it looks. And kinda creepy almost gothic feel.

Amazing staff, views and accomodations. Ignore any negative posts. This as authentic and beautiful as it gets here. Beds are amazing tempurpedic mattresses, there is an "honor bar" on site so you can serve yourself after hours, and free, custom breakfasts. I travel a lot and this is one of my favorite places.

NOT MILITARY FRIENDLY AND WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! When I saw the pictures on the Internet I was impressed because the place looked so beautiful. I called and reserved a room that was supposed to be able to sleep up to 4 adults and 2 children. When we arrived to the hotel we were told the room was way too small and everyone wouldn't be able to stay. So we had to unwillingly upgrade the room to a larger more expensive room that was not even ready for us to stay in. We checked in at around 12 midnight in a very DIRTY and unprepared room. The room had bugs throughout, dirty beds, a dirty small bathroom, and wet dirty towels. Also the breakfast was terrible and there was an additional charge if you wanted a hot breakfast. My entire family was not satisfied at all and it was a waste of money.
