Review of Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel 4*

DO NOT STAY HERE! My husband and I are currently here for two nights, as part of our honeymoon. We booked our stay about 4 months ago. When we arrived yesterday, we discovered the large casino (part of the reason we chose this hotel) was torn out two months prior. The hotel did not notify us of this change. The entire first floor of the hotel is under construction. Several other guests at check in were also shocked to hear the news-this is supposed to be a casino hotel (according to their website and our reservation) — false advertisement… they don't even plan to put another casino in; it was completely taken out. Additionally, we are laying here in bed awake due to the VERY LOUD CONSTRUCTION SOUNDS BELOW US. It is terrible to wake up to early buzzing, vibrating, and banging, which will continue ALL DAY, and will wake us up early again tomorrow. Furthermore, our room is dingy, smells of mildew (I have asthma and allergies and am suffering in my breathing as a result of being here-taking three medications and my lungs are still struggling). We are 31 and 29 yr old, from Florida and expected much more from this hotel. We expected a decent window, a luxury suite, peaceful wake up, casino for my husband, and decent food/coffee. We ordered coffees in their coffee shop, but we threw them out and instead went to a different coffee shop because they were not good. We peeked into the restaurant, but the menu, food, and atmosphere left much to be desired. When we explained our initial dissatisfaction, we were "upgraded from a junior suite to a delux suite" but there is NOTHING deluxe about our room (I can't walk on the floor barefoot because it is disgusting) and we have a tiny window which we can both see out of ONLy if we sit on the same chair and place it less than one foot in front of the window. We explained all the above to the hotel, and then received a cheap bottle of wine and some cheese. Save yourself the annoyance and ruined vacation. Stay somewhere else — we are truly sad that this is our experience on the last leg of our honeymoon. We came in off a cruise ship and wish we had stayed back on the ship! Find another hotel in the charming Old San Juan.
