The hotel is beautiful but the staff takes it to another level. Nelia Sanchez is the best! She not only did her job but went above and beyond her duties. The catering staff were very patient and helpful. The food is excellent. Weddings are never perfect but having such a great team at your side makes the difference.

Fantastic! Love El Convento. Beautiful place in every way. Gorgeous design, clean/beautiful rooms and great staff. We loved the rooftop pool and area. Went to the restaurants and drank great pina colada’s. Great location as well in a beautiful part of the city. We shall be back! ❤️

Actually the service was spectacular as well as the food. A special request was made and was granted which was special. The Mojitos were not as great as expected but a nice presentation. I wish there were elevators that could be used and the bathrooms were in poor condition which surprised me.

Maybe to stay there it will be good. The restaurant is not that good. Food took a long time and my order was not correct.

We attended a wedding that was absolutely beautiful. The staff were attentive and delightful. The food was definitely some of the best we've had on island. The srchitecture and decor inside is beautiful and magical just as others describe.

My husband and I stayed here for the first 4 nights of our honeymoon before heading on to other parts of the island. We had a wonderful experience. The room was a good size and well taken care of, staff throughout the hotel were helpful and gracious, and dinner at Santísimo was delicious. Definitely recommend!

Beautiful, gorgeous property in the heart of Old San Juan.

After recommendations from previous guests I could not be more disappointed. Upon checking in we unpacked in our room, opened the balcony doors and said 'THANK YOU PUERTO RICO FOR WELCOMING US TO YOUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY '. Later we are greeted by downstairs staff that 2 different stories… 1 a guest complained of obscenities fron the window, and now after stopping by the check in desk and questioning the situation again, it's being told that the female clerk hears me BARKING from the 4th floor. I quickly told ma'am she was more than incorrect and what my exact wordage was and if was / is as an issue she needs to let be known so we could seek accommodations elsewhere or she needed to apologize… an apology was issued still not sure how welcomed I feel.

If you’re contemplating staying here I highly recommend it. Beautiful hotel, with an amazing accommodating staff.

This was once a convent so the rooms are not big. That said they were very comfortable and a welcome place to return at the end of the day. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location for viejo San Juan.

If I have to rate this hotel based on customer service and satisfaction, I will give them 1, 000 stars! WOW! I'm in love with their real hospitality! This hotel is just amazing, from the front desk personnel, housekeepers, staff, management… so forget about the beach hotels… I think this is my hotel for now on! I want to stay here forever… I feel so so so welcomed!

Had my wedding at Hotel El Convento and I could not have asked for a better experience. Absolutely loved everything about it. The staff, the bar, the ambiance. 100000% recommend!

So disappointed! Stayed at El Covento a few weeks ago, and it was wonderful. Checking out was informed that if si wanted to stay during the week the special rate was $129 a night. My husband and I decided to celebrate our birthdays Feb 25 and Feb 27. Called at 10:00 am. Then at 12 was informed that there was availability but they couldn’t take care of me at the moment and then called again at 2:00 pm to be informed that the rate for two nights would be $645. I asked about the $129 and was informed that they couldn’t give it to me Bc the hotel is “pretty full”. Wow! That is one of the worst customer service ever! Thank God Cannon Club had availability and we’ll stay there, they were extremely polite and accommodating (Bc of the birthdays we can do early check in without extra charge! ). Both my husband and I often do internal tourism as we love the island and the people. How sad this situation has been with El
Convento. Already made reservations also at the Palacio Provincial for our next outing and they were superb… too bad for your hotel.

This hotel has beautiful architecture and a sense of peacefulness from the moment you walk into it. The service is top and I feel right at home every time I visit. I highly recommend El Convento for any type of event or for just some R&R.

This lovely hotel is so amazingly quiet and comfortable. We has a snafu with the rooms and the hotel accommodated us with a regular twin beds on roll away platforms … not a cot… and it was very late when we arrived. The breezes were spectacular outside our room on the wraparound veranda and at night you can hear the coqui. There was a very large wedding downstairs, but as soon as you closed the inner hurricane door it was super quiet. Love this place!

Great location in Old San Juan and the hotel is staffed by friendly, helpful employees. Rooms are spacious, modern, plenty of water pressure, comfortable bed and historical.

The bar staff at Santismo is great; everyone else, most including the hostess sucks. Liar: told us we would be seated after a wait. The bartender seated us, other patrons were seated, and we were not waited on. The hostess told us we would not be waited on, as we had been seated at the bar. Very rude woman in an island of wonderfully, welcoming people. She informed us that the owner (cooking in the kitchen), was not available to us.

I enjoyed the fitness room, fruit & coffee in the morning, & the wine & cheese in the evening was a very nice touch. I would definitely stay here again! Visiting Puerto Rico for the first time, I was having a hard time looking for a luxury hotel in Old Town. Then I found El Convento. It is one of the best properties I've ever stayed at. It's location is amazing. The history is fascinating. The service is second to none. There is a complimentary wine and cheese reception every night on the third level terrace. The rooftop plunge pool and jacuzzi had spectacular views. I was only in town for one night before a cruise, but I will definitely be back. The restaurant and bar is a great scene too. Super affordable for a fine dining experience. The room had two bathrooms and a little terrace that opened up onto the quiet street.

I stop here every time I’m in town. They have the best bar, best staff and atmosphere! I’ve never stayed here but have several friends that have and loved it.

The Convent. This hotel used to be a convent. Many years ago. Now is one of the most beautiful, quaint and historic hotels in Puerto Rico. Rooms are different in space, size and layout, but all beautiful. Some have balconies overlooking Old San Juan. Others have windows. They provide a complimentary get together with wine, cheese, fruits and crackers each afternoon. You get coffee, bottled water and fruits 7-24. Is not cheap. But I think it is worthwhile. Parking is valet only. El Patio del Níspero is their reataurant for all meals. There is a small pool and a jacuzzi at the rooftop. And you stay at the core of Old San Juan. Walking distance from everywhere worth its salt.

The Hotel El Convento was located in Old San Juan, a beautiful area with historic architecture and streets. The rooms and the interior of the hotel meshed perfectly with the ambiance of the city. The rooms, were comfortable although quaint. Service was amazing!

Stayed here 2 nights. It is such a beautiful hotel with a friendly vibe. The room was spacious with a gorgeous patio. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Loved the rooftop pool and afternoon cheese & wine! I hope to stay here again.

Had a perfect afternoon respite from the heat enjoying a salad and sliders. Food was excellent and waiter (Tony) extremely friendly and attentive.

Wonderful historical property with a warm, generous staff and great location. Walking distance to restaurants, shops and historical sites. Rooms are well appointed and they still is to old doors and keys from the Monastery. Must try the Pina Colada!

I don't know where to start. If you go to San Juan you need to stay at least 2 nights here. Great coffee and fruit is out 24/7, wine and cheese every night at 6, pulling service with chocolate, hot water and a bathtub (something we found to be rare) a beautiful room, the hot tub is great (alittle rough on the rear tho) the food from the kitchen is AMAZING. Every person working there is an all-star; kind, smiling, helpful. The ambiance is serene and intimate. I will be coming back indefinitely.

The staff are amazing. Such a beautiful place to stay. You can here the music form the cathedral right next door.

Pretty building and great creativity in conceiving the idea of a hotel from a former convent. I had a drink at a bar, served by friendly staff. I'm perfectly fine with the slow pace of island life, but waiting 25 minutes at a quiet bar to settle the bill after asking 3 times isn't very nice.

Excellent!. It is an unforgettable experience, to live a few days in old San Juan. As a historic city, its streets are romantically narrow and parking is not the best. But, regardless of that little difficulty, staying a few days in the convent, is living a fairy dream.

Super location with an historical church next door. The hotel is very well restored with open courtyard s. I know of no better place to stay in the old City. Children very much enjoy the facilities.

Terrible experience… we had reservation in December when the hurricane happened! They refused to make us a change of date, since Puerto Rico was devastated, our ESTIA was completely cancelled.

Horror. We had reserved a table for a business dinner and when we arrived, they knew absolutely nothing about us. Tremendous roleon with our guests.

I attended a private activity and it is a spectacular place and the attention of its employees excellent, the food and great snacks. In the middle of the capital city of San Juan, PR. Their precious rooms. I recommend it.

Beautiful entryway with a nice terrace restaurant that servers good food. Small but decent white wine selection. The second floor bar is still closed for hurricane repairs, but better off than most other places. Rooms are spacious with nice tile work. The central courtyard is a scenic view.

A page out of history. Situated in 500 year old Old San Juan. The rooms are elegant and comfortable. Our room had angled view of the Governor's Mansion. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. We're already looking forward to our next visit!

If you’re looking for a nice historical beautiful hotel in Puerto Rico/Old San Juan then this is the place for you. If you’re worried about the effects of the recent hurricane don’t be. We had plenty of free bottled water, electricity (no power outages), etc at least not in San Juan. And as the host at the hotel told us the sooner people return for tourism the sooner the economy will pick up which will help them out a lot. So do the people a favor and go visit Puerto Rico.

We've stayed at El Convento at least a dozen times. It is hands down the best hotel in Old San Juan. Restaurants in the hotel are cozy and intimate. The service is great generally. We've been all over the world and stayed in some pretty nice hotels but El Convento is the one we have returned to over and over again when we are visiting Old San Juan. We've asked for room changes because we got a smaller bed (our fault on booking) and were accommodated immediately. Room service has NEVER been late or an order not correct. The two negative reviews below are clearly from overly entitled, short-sighted, self-involved brats… One of them from a hellhole of middle, mainland America. He should just stay put. That said. I look forward to our next visit to El Convento because it just doesn't get any better.

To begin with; It has free Wi-Fi, both at the reception, in the courtyard and in the rooms. The patio area is a very nice place and has a bar with a bar and apart tables with parasols where very agusta you can have some very rich local beers and have a nice chat. Outside the hotel you have a park where you can see the beauty of old San Juan. Within walking distance is the gates to old San Juan and the beautiful wall! There is a church very close to the hotel, souvenir shops and very rich restaurants! A very good place to Hodpedarte if you want to know San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Excellent experience. The hotel facilities were amazing. The combination of old world charm with modern amenities made the stay unforgettable. Service was impeccable and the location is top notch. Also, complementary wine and cheese are available at 5pm every day. Dilly dilly.

First class. Efficient staff. Great location, two blocks from the city Gates and ocean front. Cat lovers will enjoy the small park opposite the hotel.

Room is nice but maintenance s lacking Wi-Fi very slow, AC just stays on and no adjustment so middle of night turn it off when it hit 50 degrees. The front desk staff very nice friendly but if u need a bill corrected nothing harm need something from house keeping does not

Here I spend my honeymoon. Large and spacious rooms, comfy beds, large bathtubs. On leaving you have the Catholic Church next door which is a jewel of architecture, museums nearby, the fort and the city Hall of San Juan.

Hotel keys didn't work, but when I finally got to the room it was well furnished withe everything I expected and more.

Amazing staff in the heart of Old San Juan Puerto Rico, specially Christian. Whom went above and beyond while having to deal with Hurricane Irma. We had an amazing stay while at the hotel, they even have cheese and wine for their first at 6pm. Love the history and structure of this hotel.

We visited El Convento for a wedding. The suites looked very nice. The reception hall was great, the servers were great and professional. But my experience was negative. At the end of the night, it was late and all we wanted to do was leave and return to our hotel room, yet the valet was shaking us down for money we didn't owe and then our keys were "lost" for 30 minutes.

A must! Not only a comfortable, well located hotel where to stay in the centre of old San Juan, El Convento is also a charming place, full of history. Being from Spain, I am familiar with monastic architecture, and this renovated hotel has plenty of beautiful details: from the floor tiles in the rooms to the airy patio and the complimentary wine in the terrace overlooking the cathedral and bay in the evening. Staff were always friendly, helpful and courteous too. Everyone planning to stay in old San Juan should consider this gem of a hotel. Also, I had read in some reviews that the rooms were small, which was not the case of ours on the third floor. Last, it is not cheap, but considering the amazing location, its comfort and history, it is money well spent. I checked out yesterday, already miss it.

This place kicks ass in all manners. We got a room by the garden terrace. Very big and quiet. Clean towels and bathroom with hot water on demand. The room we were in had full closet to hang stuff in, a small fridge where we bought cold cuts, and we even had a small room with a table and waterfall. All private. Some downs, would be the door to the bathroom which doesn't close all the way, and pricey breakfast. Besides that the hotel is amazing. And 24/7 pool and jacuzzi. 6 out 5, and is conveniently in the heart of the city. And everything is in walking distance. It's my honeymoon, and this place is heaven. Will come back again.

Great atmosphere! Our waiters name Tony was great! He was welcoming & attentive. A pure delight. The breakfast menu was good but for us was most important thing was the service. We will definitely return!

Great location for anyone whose main reason to visit Puerto Rico is to walk the streets of Old San Juan. Hotels is neat but some might find it has a very dark mood to it. I wish I stayed in a much smaller hotel with little modern flair. But the amenities like 24 hour cold bottled water, coffee, fresh fruits, and daily 6-7pm free wine and cheese pairings are a nice touch. Not a place I would like to stay again but definitely a place I don't regret staying either.

I love that hotel, most beautiful and kind staff I've ever met. There hotel is so beautiful with a pool on the roof top and everyday they have free wine I believe from 7:00 to 8:00 pm with cheese trays and grapes crackers really beautiful restaurant outside side and there food is so amazing! It's a 5 star all the way around. I will be back soon to visit.

Went there to grab a taxi. Front desk person was very nice and called us a taxi. 5/5 would do again.

We spent a few extra dollars on staying here instead of the Condado strip. It was the best decision we made on our trip. We had many activities planed, lots outside of the Old San Juan area, but in the end we wished we had spent more time at and around this beautiful Hotel! The staff were extremely polite and definitely went the extra mile. The coffee and fruit on the third floor are welcome amenities and the pool is a lot of fun! We'd stay here again in a heartbeat. It is absolutely worth the price!

Would rate a 5 Star but be warned about the "Bay View" rooms. I paid extra for the "Bay View" and Room 401 — looks out onto the courtyard they have their evening receptions in and a couple of buildings across the street. No Bay views from that room and the only bay view you could get was from the pool deck. Staff was great, the Tapas bar food was great, and it is in a great location. But, I would recommend staying in one of the rooms without paying for a view that doesn't exist.

Amazing. Stayed for a night in the beginning of april and I can't think of anything negative to say. The staff is EXTREMELY courteous. They're all bilingual and are willing to do anything to help you. The hotel is remodeled and everything is new and clean. Close to everything in old san juan. Beautiful location. They also offer tea, coffee, and cold water 24 hours a day. They have a microwave if you need one as well. They have great views for you to sit and enjoy. The pool is clean and relaxing. You won't regret staying here!

I have been staying here for a few days when ever I come to the island for the last four years. I love the ambiance, attention and accommodations. It is quiet and offers great services!

An amazing hotel! Had my wedding reception here and our guests were blown away. The food was top-notch and the service was stupendous. A lovely rooftop pool has breath-taking views. Luis behind the bar is possibly the best bartender I have ever experienced. Bravo y muchas gracias!

I have not stayed here as a guest, but I live nearby. Anybody who visits Old San Juan and does not go inside El Convento to enjoy the courtyard has missed a treasure. Simply gorgeous. And the bar in the courtyard makes a wonderful mojito.

This hotel is in a great location. Easy to walk everywhere throughout Old San Juan. We had a top floor bay view room. Most of the staff were very nice. Two problems that we encountered: 1. The hot water faucet didn't work, and it took two days to get them to finally fix it; and 2. The restaurant was horrible. We went there for lunch. We ordered two salads. There were hardly any patrons there, but it took over 25 minutes until the server brought them. The salads were missing most of the ingredients that were described on the menu. We ended up walking out and complaining to management. The restaurant manager apologized and gave us his business card with a "dinner for two" voucher on the back. But we didn't want to take a chance with dinner, even though it would have been gratis, so we opted out. Also, after that experience and the faucet problem, we decided to change to the Condado Vanderbilt.

Great place to stay! The customer service is fantastic! You are made to feel at home from the time you arrive to when you leave. The rooms are cozy and you have balcony style windows in the room as well as a walkway outside your door where you can sit and have coffee, read a book or just relax. The pool is nice, and there is a wine and cheese welcome hour every night. The hotel is close to nearly everything. You can walk to see the sights, eat or just have a drink! The only thing we didn't like was that we could not stay longer… def will be back!

This was the best stay in a hotel ever! The front desk staff was ALWAYS friendly and courteous to us, and we bugged them, minimal 3 times a day with questions. We were able to organize several outings directly with the front desk. We had ocean access through their sister hotels. They had a complementary cheese and wine hour every night. They had free tea and bottles of water. The rooms were very clean. There is a pool and hot tub on the roof, so it was safe at night and has a great view of the city and harbor. Great walking distance to everything downtown. We were truly sad to leave this great place.

What a lovely place to stay in Old San Juan. The building is beautiful and well kept and well located, its rooms are comfortable and the staff is tremendously friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

Great spot, great food! We had tapas in the evening on the patio during a rainstorm and enjoyed the manchego with truffle honey and tenderloin skewers. We did have to make it clear that we wanted booze in our drinks, but the bartender obliged and didn't charge additional. We tipped well! :).

My best experience in Puerto Rico — and I stayed at some very expensive hotels! The El Convento was reasonably priced, and yet they thought of everything. From Aveda products in the bathroom to ensuring there were plenty of towels to chocolates on the bed at night, it was comfortable. But it is also historic and beautiful, with an amazing atmosphere. There was string music in the central area, which was open to the sky and full of trees and plants. Every room opens to a wide covered walkway with tables and chairs to overlook the magic that happens below. And the staff is friendly and determined that each and every guest is going to have a perfect stay. Next time in San Juan, I'll be staying at the El Convento if at all possible.

Treatment of premium quality and exceptional environment.

It is a very quiet romantic and the deal is passed phenomenal towards the public is excellent and is eaten very rich.
