If there is Eden on earth, it is already very close here.
The hotel cannot be found by navigation from Google. We did a lot of laps around the hotel by car until we called the hotel out of desperation. We were led by the front desk staff to the driveway. The reception is staffed 24 hours a day and the front desk staff were always friendly, had humour and infectious good humour. They help in any situation, visit or call is sufficient. Two stars extra.
The rooms are cosy and practical. The TV also has four German programs and at night it is decidedly quiet except for the crickets and automatic watering of the garden.
Room service is good. They come daily, do a decent job, talk four languages and when you say you sleep badly on the mattress, they put on a harder or a softer one and ask the day after if the goal is achieved. Two stars extra.
The garden deserves the name Park. A green oasis is operated here with great effort, through which tourists outside the hotel walk every day. In the middle there is a "kiosk. " We'd call it more of a cafe. There are all kinds of drinks and small and large delicacies here until 5 p. M. Either from the cake counter, from the wooden barbecue, the daily fresh salatheke or from the hotel kitchen. Wi-Fi in the garden is accessible from the neighbouring complex. Two stars extra.
Annoying is the man who keeps the paths clean almost every day with a leaf blower. A star deduction.
The restaurant of the hotel has Michelinstern. You can clearly see it in the good cuisine and also in the price. A star extra. Luckily we didn't book half board, because we didn't like the menus so much on 12 of the 14 days. A strong deduction.
Breakfast is also served in the restaurant. It's typically britsch, but there's also fresh fruit, cereal, homemade jam and sausage every day.
The bar is treated somewhat stepmotherly. A service force from the restaurant has to go behind the bar. If there is no guest at the bar, this power helps back at the restaurant. Unsuspecting guests can then be without service for more than half an hour until an experienced guest joins in and brings the service to the restaurant. A star deduction.
In the bar, as at the kiosk, there is a small menu of treats. They are prepared in the kitchen and are a recommendation.
Here in the bar, in addition to the only free Wi-Fi access of the hotel, there are also cosy couches that invite you to read, drink, snap and surf. Wi-Fi is still difficult to receive in the rooms near the bar, but most guests go out empty. At the bar you can get a battery-powered device for two euros a day, which you carry with you and then you should have internet everywhere.
In a small room, which they call library, there is an internet-enabled computer. It is very convenient for checking in for the return flight. All you have to do is email the ticket to the front desk for the expression.
The hotel complex is located in Monte next to the church of Nossa Senhora do Monte, on the cable cars ' mountain stations and next to the tropical garden. At the next corner is departure for the legendary Korbrutscher. There are also two notable venues on the way to the second cable car. However, the stores are missing, where you can buy a bottle of water, sunscreen, a book or something like that. Two bus stops are not far away and the hotel offers a minibus that takes guests to Funchal and also collects them again. Nevertheless, I recommend a vehicle of my own that significantly increases the degree of freedom and opens up the beauty of the island.
There is a renovation backlog in the hotel. The tablecloths in the restaurant and at the kiosk have partly holes, the chairs stains.
The carpet in the rooms is about time and the rooms smell unventilated, musty. The varnish from the railing peels off and much more. Four stars off.
