Gea Lodge Mandor Machu Picchu

Thank you erwin & family for your hospitality and an amazing stay. It feels more like a homestay than a hostel, so if you want to escape the crowded aguas calientes and stay in a much more calm place instead, this is the place to be. You can easily walk to machu picchu from there! also, I really enjoyed the food!

I got there on my way to Machu Pichu and stayed for 3 nights. Very nice place to avoid the crowdy Machu Pichu village. You can share the nice meals with the owner and the volunteers. Rooms and bathroom are basic but clean. I enjoyed my stay!

A beautiful space that is sure to leave an impression upon anyone who enters. We did not stay because Mandor is in the middle of renovations after an intense landslide, but we were welcomed by the Workawayers who were cheerfully selling snacks and drinks along the railway tracks, and the owner Erwin gave us a tour and allowed us to walk up to the waterfall. We were touched by the spirit of the place and the hard work that everyone has put in to give it life after such a devastating event. Be sure to eat a delicious muffin baked by Erwin himself if you stop by! I am excited to see what the future of Mandor holds.

While the location, service (owner is great), and food is good, unfortunately the rooms are not sufficient. We did the Salkantay trek and this was the most unclean and uncomfortable accommodation of the trek, despite it being the most expensive.
We are fine with bugs in general. But there were, no exaggeration, thousands of flying bugs in our bathroom. We were covered in flying bugs after using the shower. It resulted in us not being able to use the lights and using our phone flashlights for any lighting for fear of attracting flying bugs. The inside of rooms do not at all look like what we took away from the photos: the room was much less nice on the whole.
While we were excited for our stay based on everything we read and the photos, sadly I would not recommend this as an accommodation to fellow hikers.

Very nice place to visit from aquas calientes if you want to escape the tourist crowds. Its just a 50 min walk and very nice to get there. There you cam get a refreshing drink or sth to eat. They also offer a kayak Which is Really nice to use to relax for an hour.
You will walk along the train trails which is not dangerous but also fun to watch if a train Passes by.

After four days walking from Mollepata to Mandor, this is definitely a nice place to stay before you go up to machu picchu the next day. They have really nice food and rooms were clean.
However, I think the rooms are overpriced. Every person staying here has done the Salkantay trek and we used to pay 60 soles for accomodation, Wi-Fi, dinner and breakfast in each of th3 previous days. In Mandor you pay 60 soles just for the room. They still don't understand that you want to walk very early the next day and they don't prepare breakfast before 7am :)
I see a lot of potential here but they need to wake up and wear their customer shoes.
