I travel for a living, spending on average 80-100 nights a year in hotels. The Hotel Torre Dorada is by far the best experience I've ever had at any hotel. Absolutely everyone goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable — they are simply the best hotel staff anywhere. It is a small hotel, with 4 rooms on the first floor, and 5 rooms each on the second and third floors. There is a common area with a couch on each floor just outside the rooms. There is always a hot water and tea station set up in this common area, with clean cups and all the fixings. The hotel provides airport transfers and our driver was waiting for us with a sign with our names on it as we exited the airport terminal — it's a fantastic feeling to have someone waiting for you as you exit the building to make sure you're whisked off to exactly where you need to go. The hotel has the same car and driver available to take you anywhere you wish to go, anytime, with 10 minutes notice, and provide a cell phone so you can call them to be picked up again. This is a huge, huge benefit to staying here! Breakfast is included, a very nice selection of fruits, cheese, sliced ham, and toast and pastries. Also an egg/omelet cook is waiting to make eggs to order. Hot water with a selection of teas and a coffee carafe are the hot selections of drinks, and of course there was orange juice as well. Two complementary bottles of water are waiting for you in your room, and there is a bottled water refill station on the second floor, also free of charge. The entire building is squeaky clean. There is a terrace roof with a spectacular view of the south and west mountains. I'm writing this from room 101 as we speak on the free in-room Wi-Fi internet access. It was very quiet last night, and the beds and pillows are nice and comfy — a stark contrast to the Grand Hotel Bolivar where we spent the prior night in Lima. There is a menu available at the front desk, and if you order by the early afternoon they will have the food ready for you at the dinner time you request. We had chicken and rice soup which was brought in and served by a local woman. It felt like we were eating a home cooked meal — super! The Torre Dorada is about a 10 minute car ride from the Plaza de Armas, what most tourist types would consider to be the city center. I will take this fantastic hotel, located in a quiet residential area, any day over a more centrally located and certainly noisier location. This is an A++ stay. Book it early and be assured of a great experience in Cusco.
