Hotels in Chivay with Parking near Main Square

Nestled in the heart of the Colca Valley, the Main Square in Chivay serves as a charming focal point that perfectly captures the spirit of this Andean town. Historically, this vibrant plaza has been the center of social, cultural, and religious activities for centuries. Its colonial architecture, framed by the backdrop of towering volcanoes, tells stories of Spanish conquest mingled with indigenous traditions. Visitors can admire the striking church, built from volcanic stone, which anchors one side of the square and offers a glimpse into the region’s rich history.

The Main Square is lively year-round, but timing your visit can enhance the experience substantially. During festivals such as the Virgen de la Candelaria in February, the square bursts into life with colorful parades, traditional dances, and enthusiastic local celebrations. For a quieter visit, the dry season from May to September offers clear skies and pleasant daytime temperatures, ideal for exploring without the crowd. Early mornings reveal a peaceful ambiance where locals gather for their daily routines, providing a perfect moment for thoughtful photography or a reflective stroll.

When planning your visit, consider how central accommodation can enrich your stay.
