Gorgeous high tea served in the covered outdoor area. We had a wonderful time, the food was superb and the service was excellent.

Took my Mother and Sister-in-law for High tea this afternoon. The staff were so lovely and the food was absolutely delicious. I can highly recommend and will definitely do this again soon!

This hotel really stands up to it’s reputation and awards. Have been fortunate to dine at both 50 Bistro and Pescatore. The food and service have always been exemplary and the degustation menu is an experience and a half.

We had a private function and used the residence which was amazing and then the private dining room. Was very happy with all aspects of the evening thank you.

What a truly first class experience. The staff, the room and the food — all excellent! It was the little details and extra service like asking about how to get somewhere and suddenly my cab was waiting for me and luggage already in the truck.

We had a wonderful stay. Bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in that wasn't mine. The food was great, the staff were friendly as. A great place to stay.

After having our wedding breakfast and staying there for our first night we returned to celebrate our 38th Anniversary at the 50 Bistro restaurant. From the moment we walked in and were greeted at the door the & entire night was excellent. The service at the Bar was warm and friendly. In the restaurant our hostess was very knowledgeable and helpful. The food was amazing and proportions were much larger than what w we were expecting. Unfortunately we left no room for desert however they kindly bought out to us a lovely Happy Anniversary desert plate beautifully decorated with chocolate and a couple treats at no charge to finish our evening off. We were both very impressed with all of the staff, food and experience. You delivered above our expectations. A very big Thank you to everyone The George Hotel.

We stayed here for the first three nights of our honeymoon in New Zealand. The staff, hotel, and amenities are absolutely incredible. They upgraded our room since it was our honeymoon (and the off-season). We got a garden-view with champagne and macaroons upon our arrival. Doesn't get much better than that!

I stayed @ The George once about 12yrs ago & it was very good then & I suspect that it would still be very good today.

If you are looking for an understated, high — end luxury hotel in Christchurch, then look no further.

I love the junior suite. The service was impeccable. The room is clean, location was great and Wi-Fi is fast. Love my stay there. Highly recommend.

The staff at the George would not have been blamed for feelings of trepidation when a group of 30 international rugby travellers arrived at the hotel as part of the golden oldies tournament. But over the past 6 days of our stay the courteous, warm and professional staff have gone above and beyond in making our stay in Christchurch an experience to remember.

Excellent service! Very pleasant walk to the city centre and very close to the art centre. We were offered coffee and snacks at check in and got it delivered to our room, very nice! The room has good amenities and comfortable bed.

ZERO stars (if the option was available) Completely rude staff, right from the entrance. As soon as I parked my vehicle inside their premises, the watchman came down yelling at me in an intimidating way saying that they would toll my car. Only upon telling him that I was visiting my friend who was a guest in "The George", the watchman allowed me in. He didn't even have the courtesy to apologize for his rude behavior. Except for the pleasant view beside Avon river. Food and service ok ok. Nothing worth a five star hotel. Would never recommend anyone to this place nor would go back there again. Felt embarrassed!

Nice hotel with really helpful staff. Located just off the park and the Botanical Garden 15 mins away.

I had the pleasure of staying here two nights. Wish it were longer. They greeted us with warm cloths to refresh even as we checked in after a long day. Everyone from the concierge to the housekeeping staff were professional, welcoming and went above & beyond to make our stay pleasant. The rooms are clean, very comfortable and well stocked. They even sent us off with a lovely bag of breakfast food for a very early pick up on our last day there. Thank you!

Had a lovely meal at 50 Bistro for my daughter's 21st was so full of flavor, my husband had the best sirloin steak ever, my duck was divine, pork was delicious and dessert was scrumptious. Stephanie was our waitress and she was very good.

Had NewYear eve dinner there, fabulous meals. We had steaks, perfectly grilled, chips are so delicious. We are going back tonight, just have to dine there again before going back to LA.

My wife and I have enjoyed several meals at the gorge and have always had a wonderful experience in terms of cuisine and service the food here he's probably some of them most tasteful and beautifully presented I have experienced in Christchurch.

Love visiting The George on a weekly basis! Rooms are very Beautiful, and the views of the park are breathtaking with very nice conference rooms. The staff always go the extra mile!

Best accommodation I've ever stayed at. There is nothing I csn fault. Amazing friendly staff, the room I stayed in had every mod con. The bed was so comfy, automated blinds and lighting, and a toilet with more smarts than my iphone. The George bear was a lovely gift, and as it was our honeymoon we received a plate of macaroons. Was not expecting any of this. I will definitely be back!

For a so called top restaurant it was disapionting. Service was slow and inattentive. Fish was not fresh but frozen and thawed. 50 Bistro much better.

We went to Bistro 50 for lunch. A high tea. There were four adults and two children. On arrival our booking was confirmed and we were seated. Water was offered and wine. Then out came our stand of high tea food. Not all of us were having high tea, no menus had been provided. So those of us eating began. Later the menu arrived after asking for it twice, the ordered food arrived and then more high tea food. It was all just a little weird and discombobulated really. Leaving us with a feeling of dissatisfaction. The experience we were expecting was definitely not matched and we chose this restaurant expecting a superior dining experience. The food was nice but it did not in this occassion reach our expectations. I think a lack of communication by the wait staff was the biggest contributing factor. The restaurant was not busy at the time.

What a great little hotel. The room and amenities rival the 5 star hotels I've been in. It was a very pleasant surprise.

I had the pleasure of staying and dining at The George after returning from a trip to Rome, Amafli and Tuscany, I was reviewing Hotels and Cooking Schools. Having experienced leading hotels around the world and coming home to Christchurch, I was delighted to be a guest at the The George, the service was outstanding, the food world class. I loved The George Bear as a gift. He reminds me of this special haven in Christchurch and would recommend The George to anybody who is visiting Christchurch, New Zealand.

We stayed here for a birthday treat and a touch of luxury whilst travelling. It was our first night in New Zealand and a great welcome as soon as we experienced the efficient and attentive check-in. The Park Suite we stayed in was magnificent with a huge bed, spa bath, double shower and living room with views if Hagley Park. We were well settled in by concierge and instructed in all the amenities. 200mb Internet Access is included for free allowing access to two devices. We had a three course meal in 50 Bistro included in our package. We were pleased overall just the dessert that failed to deliver on its promise and a long wait for our entree whilst a large party were served their mains but the staff did apologise once our food arrived. We also enjoyed breakfast the next morning and the staff were attentive with refills and extra toast. Luggage storage was efficient and the hotel is conveniently located for a walk around the city. We really enjoyed our stay here, felt the experience whilst one of the most expensive places we've stayed was good value, and we look forward to taking George the Bear as we continue our travels.

I have performed wedding ceremonies at The George and I can highly recommend it on every level:).
