The moment we entered the premise, we fell in love with the ambience and setup of the house. Customer service personnel is very helpful and friendly. The kitchen is complete with all cooking utensils and the room is super comfy. Recommended to those who wish to stay in christchurch.

The location of this backpackers is perfect. It is right next to Hagley park, busing and a short walk to the center of town. It is an older building. Heaters that you can control in each room, however the kitchen, halls and bathrooms are not heated and are chilly in the winter. The kitchen is well stocked with things you will need including spices and plenty of space to prepare your food and sit down and eat. I didn't have a problem with noise the entire time I was there. The staff at the front desk are very friendly and willing to help you in any way they can.

Cute old house with a lot of character. Each bed has an electric warming pad underneath! So nice! Had a really warm comfortable sleep. Helpful staff and quite a large kitchen.

Great place to stay, handy to city centre, clean comfortable rooms, bathrooms very near, just across from our room. And much cheaper compared to staying at a Motel. Ilbe back.

Awesome hostel, stayed twice because of a detour we took due to cyclone gita. Clean rooms and bathrooms, friendly and helpful staff and great location!

I thought it was a bit underhanded they told me there was "assured" parking when there's not. Only 5 parks for the whole hostel so I couldn't take my car out in case I lost my place. Also was given a room that had no windows to outside so It was impossible to breathe all night unless I opened my window to the drunken people in the corridor. $80 for the room I stayed in is a BIT excessive but that's NZ I guess.

Ive been here for a month, spent a week here. My favorite hostel yet. Clean, spacey, good vibes.

Very good hostel compared to others in New Zealand. Wi-Fi was free and fast, location was great, showers were comfortable. I will stay here again if I come to Christchurch.

Dorset house is just a lovely place where is worth to stay for a night. It has an interesting old style atmosphere… The staff is nice and location is also very good… in a calm part of the city next to a river and big park…

Beautiful old house made into a cosy, comfortable home for backpackers! We had previously stayed in June and couldn't wait to go back. We had a double room the first stay and a family room the second stay. Very clean accommodation with a large kitchen, living room with TV and pool table, laundry room and garden. Staff very friendly and attentive. If your ever in Christchurch you should stay here if you can!

A small walk from the CBD. This hostel is in a nice quiet street between the main park and the restaurant/cafe street of the city. The hostel itself is a lovely building with very friendly & helpful staff. We had a private room and it was a good size and even had its own TV. We really enjoyed our stay at Dorset House.

Lovely place which will make you feel welcome. Very convenient location as it's close to the airport bus, close to the magnificent botanical garden and 15min walk from the city center and the info center. Beds are comfy, though it gets a little cold at night. Shower and toilet are clean. Kitchen is nice but could use a little more fridge space.

Very cute hostel, nice staff, clean. Not far from city center and beautiful botanical garden. Started our NZ trip here and were so happy that we stayed there as wel for our last day, before heading home.

Lovely cosy and clean place in Christchurch with a cute garden and sunny terrace. Stayed in a small private double. Very friendly staff. Great welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended if you are looking for an individual place to stay.

First time travelling on my own! such a good spot by the park and I found it nice walking to botanic gardens and the city centre. Nice and clean and everything I needed was available. Even before I arrived staff were fantastic, answering all my questions and ensuring my stay was comfortable and safe. Such a nice first couple of nights for a solo traveller! Might be back in mid August! Thank you so much to the lovely staff.

We had a private room which was small but cosy and well kitted out. There seem to be plenty of showers for the number of rooms and all communal facilities were kept clean. We had a car but rarely used it as it is right next to a big park and walking distance to lots of restaurants and the city centre.

Great location and lovely hostel We really enjoyed the close location to the park, which is wonderful as we were in Christchurch for the Buskers festival. The hostel was homely, clean and staff very friendly. We booked on their website and received free Wi-Fi. They print them in 1GB vouchers, but when you ask reception they will give you more if you need them. We had some photos to upload so were grateful for the second voucher. Most other hostels we’ve stayed at in NZ only offer 100mb free Wi-Fi so this is really cool. Nice touch.

I'm shocked because they lie to us. On their internet website, it's written "free Wi-Fi". It's not true! We have 1GB free. Maybe it's not important for the most of the people, but for me it is. They promise me free Wi-Fi so I want free Wi-Fi. I paid the price for it! Right now I'm angry and disappointed.

Good, clean, civilised hostel. 200mb of data is a decent amount too. Slightly pricey, but so is everything in Christchurch.

Best Backpacker hostel Ive ever stayed. Clean room, nice staffs, close to town and oso a very warm n clean kitchen. Not to mention they have a very cozy common room to get to know new friends! A travel back into history experience which I think everyone will fall in love with.

I stayed at Dorset House at the beginning of July 2012. The facilities were very good with a fully equipped kitchen and common room. However we had issues with the shower facilites with fluctuating hot and cold water and we felt that the heating in our room was inadequate for the weather (we had to go and buy extra blankets and smuggle in a fan heater). Also, the room we stayed in did not look like it had been vacuumed for a long time. At reception the lady who checked us in was not very friendly, but we did encounter another staff member who was more welcoming. All-in-all the facilities were as they were describes, but for $85 per night, twin share, I would probably stay somewhere else if I visit Christchurch again.

One of the best hostels I've stayed in so far. Clean and tidy with nice rooms that are importantly very warm. Not too central but only a short walk to the town. Would recommend it over many others.

This was the best of about a dozen backpackers we stayed in this summer. Not only is the location just right for us — — not wanting noise, crowds, traffic etc. — — but the house itself is a beauty. The public rooms are great, especially the extra large lounge. The sunny kitchen has an outdoor eating area attached, and everything is very clean. Lots of laundry facilities, too. This is not a party person place, but perfect for those wanting a little elegant relaxation without breaking the bank in the lovely city of Christchurch.
