Substandard. This place has creaking stairwells — very unnerving if you are from Christchurch or other seismically active places. No bathroom towel or facecloth's — these might have been available on request, but generally something expected in a backpackers. This place has a narrow corridor full of peoples belonging's — if there was a fire or power cut, I don't fancy the odds of everyone getting out safely. Staff were also very bland. In anything related to tourism, hospitality, etc, you need to come across as friendly and welcoming. These staff were meh.

It is a very nice Hostel, quiet and well located, with excellent bathrooms (privacy and showers with hot water provided). Free Wifi 24 hours and relatively clean! I recommend it.

Quiet, very well located and it is contemplated that there are shared bathrooms, but they are several and with enough privacy.
It has a shared kitchen and living room, Wi-Fi pretty decent and the showers are with room, just like the bathrooms.

Friendly and accommodating service at the front desk. A six bed dorm with a window was comfortable and the private individual showers nice. My main complaint is that all of the freezers and fridges were overflowing with expired food from long gone guests and the entire place was long overdue for a deep clean. Finding space for frozen food was impossible the two weeks I was here.

Is one of the best backpackers in which I have stayed in Auckland, clean and tydy, organized, a complete kitchen in order, a nice living room with a TV and games, you can't drink inside but some guys get together outside for a beer.

Very nice hostel! Good location, could walk to the main places easily. Nice and helpful stuff. Great, big kitchen with everything needed. Quite clean as well. Lockers are big enough to put all the valuables in… like computer etc. Would have preferred lockable doors for the rooms otherwise in the daytime you can't be sure who will come in, but probably NZ people are too nice to steal something anyways.

No garden or greenery nearby, no lift, should climb up the stairs with luggage, some local guest steals stuffs in spite of CCTV Surveillance… Despite of all this its a cool multi national budget backpack with friendly people.

Pretty good for being a Hostel, the people is respectful, and who have spent more time there seem to be a family.

Simple rooms without a window, basic things available (kitchen, internet, …) close to city centre.

Well maintained and reasonably priced for what you get. Highly recommended based on the price and budget.

This is an excellent hostel to stay at. Clean facilities, friendly staff, excellent free Wi-Fi and good standard of guests. A bargain for central Auckland and way better than others I've stayed at in the surrounding area.

The bath rooms are mostly clean. You can use the laundry and the dryer with $3 each. But the bed room isn't clean… because some guests are staying here long time and they use the place as if this is theirs house.

Location is great, very clean throughout. Rooms are well sized, I had my own so can't comment on dorms. Service has been excellent.

Avoid it! I got some skin disease on it! And I slept just one day!

Quite and nice backpacker. Very good Wi-Fi. Free computers. Very clean. Change beds every week.

I live in Newton Lodge for many weeks, I love the rooms, the showers and my favourite THE LIVING ROOM with the kitchen. Its a very secure place, the owners are all the time looking at the cameras. Always wash your dishes here or the owners will complain to you. Great family.

Great location for k road, without the noise.

It's ok for the prize. Rooms are small and no lockers to keep your stuff but the bathrooms are clean and just at the beginning of the main st.

Smelly shoes every where.

Noisy beds and doors. Can't sleep.

Your not allowed to drink, smoke, change a bed, bring guest after 9pm, store your luggage after 11 pm. The rooms are average aswell as the kitchen. I ask to store my backpack until 2am, they refuse!
