Mowani Mountain Camp

Breathtaking, magical, spectacular…… Mowani is a very special place, the mini suite was beautiful, with plunge pool & outdoor bathroom definitely worth the bit extra!
I would definitely recommend 2 nights so you can take the whole place in and relax!
We had a fantastic trip to see the desert elephants ours guides Petrus & Werner were very informative and looked after us well, we even managed to see the baby :)
The food is outstanding at both breakfast and dinner, we had drinks from the minibar included in the room everything else was charged to the room but very reasonable considering the location.
Thank you to all the staff for looking after us so well, we will never forget this very special place :)

A spectacular setting with the rooms designed to meld into the landscape. Rooms are spacious and well equipped with comfortable bed, A/C, in-room coffee/tea, safe, en-suite bathroom and shower, and small veranda. Walk to your room will likely be on loose gravel walkways that are well-lit at night — torches are provided. Meals were very tasty with a selection of entrees. Alcohol is not included — and you can charge to your room. The sunset from the viewing "deck" has to rival the best in the world — absolutely stunning! The activities were wonderful, with informative walks to Twyfelfontein and game drive to find the Desert Ellies. Since the ellies move around, our drive took over an hour and half to find them — the drive in the dry riverbed was an experience on its own. They provided plenty of water during the activities. Finally, the camp staff and guides were wonderful: always friendly and very professional. There's a tip box at reception, so no need to tip at the dining table, room, etc…

The geology of the setting for this camp is remarkable with giant boulders everywhere — some of which perch apparently precariously on top of others. The camp is created in the same style so really blends in with the landscape. We had a room that looked out to the mountains which you pay extra for but is definitely worth it as the views are really quite spectacular from you balcony or as you lay in bed!
The food is good and the staff (all male) make you welcome remembering what your preferences are from day to day.
Nice touch at sundowners to give you some canapés but you pay for your own drinks.
We took a couple of excursions to the Twyfelfontain rock paintings (interesting) and a morning game drive (excellent) which included a coffee stop with snacks (delicious) being able to watch elephants including a baby elephant too. The scenery is spectacular and quite a special experience.

We recently stayed at Mowani Mountain Camp for one night. The camp is tucked right into the red granite boulders, which makes you feel like you’re part of the landscape. The views are nice, especially from the sundowner spot where you can watch the sunset over the valley. The room was spacious but did not have any special views. All the rooms seem to be pretty private though and blend into the surroundings. We did a great excursion to see the desert-adapted elephants with Siggi. While our stay was overall good, I wouldn't recommend staying there for more than one night. While the staff was generally friendly and helpful, I was pretty irritated by the two staff members getting your luggage to the room. While I have no issue tipping (as common in the US), I do have a BIG issue with it if it feels expected — They were basically standing there waiting for me to tip them! At a ~800 USD price point per night that's not the way to do it. So I didn't! Generally, staff was a bit more mainstream (not especially attentive and didn't make you feel very special) than in other lodges we stayed at in Namibia. Also, when we stayed there the night was pretty windy and ice cold — They did not have the ability to close off the main lodge dining room (in all other lodges we stayed at this was not a problem) which made everyone FREEZING. Basically everyone had to get their winter jackets out to make dinner more comfortable. We even asked for blankets.

What a location, this is where the idea of the Flintstones was conceived! In the Twyfelfontein area, surrounded by some of the biggest boulders and rocky mountains ever seen, lie some absolutely wonderful campsites. Fully serviced with private ablutions, clean and well maintained. This is an ideal base from which to appreciate the natural Namibian environment.

I felt like a princess! I had one night in the superior view room and 2 nights in the mountain suite. So fabulous! The camp is beautiful, food was phenomenal, staff was fantastic. Had sundowners every evening with a glorious view of sunset. Staff set out cushions and chairs for guests to enjoy sunset every evening. Felt completely safe there. Also got to go on a nature drive to see the desert elephants and have morning coffee in the desert. I would absolutely stay at this lodge again!

This is a really impressive property. The rooms, and facilities, are built into the rock formations in a discrete and sympathetic manner. Our room was spacious and fully equipped with everything we needed for a two night stay. The fact that the loo and the shower were outside the room added to its charm, but were completely shielded from view.
Meals were very good indeed, as was the bar service. There is a small pool (more plunger than swimming) and the views from the dining room terrace were spectacular.
A must do activity is the desert elephant drive. It’s an early start, but is well worth it for the scenery and animals.
Staff were incredibly helpful, welcoming and engaging.
A highly recommended place to stay.

The cabins were exquisite. What a luxury and service. The views were fantastic but our absolute favorite experience was the game drive with Jaffet. He was very skilled in finding the elephants and brought an element of excitement to the whole expedition. He’s so skilled at tracking the elephants that many guides follow his path. It was a joy.

After 2 weeks experiencing various lodges in Namibia, Mowani was definitely our favorite; the best of the bests!
Everything was perfect: the staff was extremely nice, the food was delicious (also for vegetarian) and the lodge was absolutely stunning; one of a kind!

I stayed here as part of a tour group. I absolutely loved this place. The tents are built amongst the boulders and those boulders are huge and balance on one another. The room was extremely comfortable and I loved laying in bed looking out into the valley. Sundowners was very special with drinks and canapes being served. The dining was excellent as was the main lounging tea/coffee area. We stayed 2 nights here, Loved it!

The best lodge we stayed in during our trip. Great location, really beautifully furnished, rooms were spacious and offered great views on the surrounding landscape. Food was exceptionally delicious and prepared with a lot of creativity. Service was also great, both in the lodge and during the game drives.
We were sad that we have booked it for only 2 nights — 100% recommendation!

The most stunning and luxurious lodge we stayed at throughout our whole trip across Namibia. We stayed in the mini suite which was beautifully decorated and so incredibly comfortable. The suite even has its own splash pool and separate small lounge. The views are sensational, especially the sundowner on the mountain top which overlooks the Damaraland! The excursions are really well run and we enjoyed the burnt mountain and organ pipes excursion, but even more so the elephant drive where we saw a 2 month old baby elephant called Mei Mei 🥹 the whole experience was so special — would highly recommend!

Had a Superior view room (room 4) which has outstanding views of the valley. Dinner very good as was breakfast. Nice pool area to chill out at. Wi-Fi good despite being in the middle of nowhere. Staff very friendly especially Kevin who was our dinner host. Drinks reasonably priced. Complimentary tea and cake in the afternoons in the lounge but also tea in the room as well as a fridge. Plenty of hot water for showers etc. Really enjoyed our stay. Expensive but worth it.
Drove from Swakopmund — C34-C35-D2612. Google said 4.5 hours, took over 5 hours due to parts of the D2612 being pretty much impassable (tip — the locals have created their own tracks to the sides of the main road, definitely use these wherever possible and assuming you have an SUV or 4x4 — it will save you a lot of hassle! ). C34 to Henties Bay is tarmac, good view of Zeila shipwreck just before Henties Bay. C35 gravel and quite corrugated in parts. Final 20km to Mowani on the D2612 was tarmac.

This place is simply stunning! You are literally in boulder heaven. We stayed in a mini suite and it was worth the extra bit of money. It comes with a plunge pool to cool off!
The attention to detail here to our dietary requirements was impeccable. Being vegan Namibia has been a bit of a nightmare destination as most meals at other lodges lacked creativity. Here that was not an issue. We had delicious cashew cheese on toast, beautiful salads, vegan lasagne, pizza and even a velvet cake! All superlative, especially when I asked for lunches in my room near our pool. I can say I have gained a few happy pounds! Thank you Gee and Timo you both were excellent. We seriously wanted to take them home. Ronnie — excellent and the manager since the opening, just a kind sweet man!
Tours great do them. Flexible with laundry and thr small things like making us banana bread for our journey to Etosha, takes this place from excellent to out of this world! Book it! X.
