Review of The Regency Hotel 3*

This hotel is literally a minute walk away from the bus station, which is really a bonus if you're arriving at odd hours like 4am from an overnight bus, groggy and irritable. They allow you to check-in in the middle of the night too, so that's great. It must also be mentioned that it is a 5 minute (maybe less) drive away from the airport. That said, it is VERY far from old Bagan which is the whole point most people go there for. By bicycle, it takes 45 minutes. And if like me, you don't want to ride an e-bike for safety reasons, a taxi ride to the city area will cost you 8, 000 kyat. For some reason, taxis are hard to get in Nyaung-U. This is a pretty new hotel, so it's clean, modern and spacious. It has the basics like TV, hot water kettle, sockets, shower needs, etc. Toilets are above average. However, beds are not quite the case. I've spotted tiny bugs on my bed. The "large bed" is actually made up of 2 single beds joined together, by the way. I had dinner twice in the hotel itself since it is quite far from anywhere else and I have to say that the food on the dinner menu is not worth the price (8000 kyat and above per dish), on average. I don't recommend eating in but if you have to, you can try the rigatoni carbonara pasta. Like in any other hostels/hotels in Myanmar, staff here are extremely helpful regardless of the time of the day. They speak and understand English well. Overall, I had a pleasant time but I probably wouldn't choose to stay here again. It's way too far away from the city and inconvenient to travel around.
