Review of Gillieru Harbour Hotel 4*

We were quite worried by some of the reviews we read about the hotel before we got there but Having just spent 2 fantastic weeks I felt it deserved a proper honest review… we had a road facing room (we prefer that) and yes it was a little noisy at times but not a problem after 11pm, we had a good spacious room with a brilliant balcony. The hotel was very clean and served a varied breakfast, as well as lunch and evening meal if you wanted it. The room was cleaned regularly, and all the staff were very pleasant and helpful especially Rose on reception who had time for a chat and a smile for everyone (despite having some awfully rude guests to deal with). The hotel is in an ideal location for public transport and is a pleasant 10 minute walk from the bustling night life of Buggiba. There are a few restaurants within 5 minutes of the hotel and also a couple attached to the hotel. It is right beside the sea which is beautifully clean and clear (and a pleasure to swim in). There is a rooftop pool but this was spoilt by people who insisted on placing towels on sunbeds all night and the same people did it every day (we never used the area at all) as it was always packed. Rooms were cleaned regularly and towels replaced every couple of days, and the staff were excellent and efficient. There is a pool bar "of sorts" but it was very boring as the only form of entertainment was a 40" screen TV (if I wanted to sit watching TV all night I would have stayed at home) a little bit of effort and decoration in the bar and some nice background music would make it a better place to sit and have an evening drink. This was a very nice hotel and we will definitely return to the Gillieru.
