A beautiful place with beachfront bungalows, a super friendly team, invigorating seaside massages, you can snorkel and swim, but a very quiet place in the evening, you are on an island, there is only this spring, no other bars.

Amazing private island to connect with nature, although some mindless people don't keep the environment clean.

This must have once been a great place to spend a holiday, but now is dilapidated and dirty and for the price there are better options.

The only hotel and restaurant on this island. It has an affordable price. Recommended by the Guardian.

Nice view from your room. Food was awesome. Do expect electricity cut for certain hours during the day.

Quiet. Friendly and helpful staff. The little island is surrounded by clear waters, amazing coral and sea life. It is a 10 boat ride from Marang Jetty. I have visited several times.

+ Location is amazing. Beach are quite, clean and clear. Rooms are big and functional. Food is some of the best we have tasted in Malaysia. Well-presented and large portions. % Staff is unbelievably bad. No service at all. Lazy waiter walking around and cannot event put on a smile. Have eated here 6 times, (breakfast not counted in) and every time we had to wait for more than an hour or get our food on different time. Running a small restaurant is not that difficult. Served the drinks right away (we often got our drinks after getting the food). If something was sold out, we would get the information 10-15 minuts after we have ordered. It seems like the management don't know how to run a restaurant. For a person working in the hotel business, it was absolutely shocking to see how things was handled. No one says sorry, or offer you something to drink while waiting. % Breakfast is boring. I don't think it is the same chef who made the menus for dinner and breakfast. The hotel and food are definitely worth the money, but the lazy unprofessional staff is destroying the whole experience. I hope that they will look at this, and train there staff. That will make the experience PERFECT (! ).

Very relaxing island to be. Coral and small fishes : superb. Small waves which makes snorkeling pleasant and enjoyable. Resort staffs very helpful. Spa excellent and rejuvenating by a French lady (practicing Ayurveda) Turtle conservation with hatching place and pond for them to grow before being release to the wild. Definite 4+ stars from me.

Gem Island, or locally known as Pulau Gemia – is all its name suggests, if your gem of a vacation means days of serene, dull days. The island is private-owned and one, and only one, resort is majestically perched on the island – Gem Island Resort & Spa. The Resort presents all that you need to unwind. Inspiring nature-sculptured rock formations with terns (seabirds) hovering gracefully above, the prerequisite white sandy beach, sea activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving and night squid fishing (yes, you read right… squid), naps on snugly comforting hammocks, and if you are lucky, even spot baby black-tip sharks right off the sea-facing rooms. The island also does its part for the conservation of turtles. The owners have spared some real estate for turtle eggs incubation and a small pool for baby turtles. What about a pool for us muggles (as JK Rowling puts it)? There’s a small pool for you to dip and it’s also one of the many spots where you can catch some rays. There are also a few stretches of private beach area that are perfect for suntanning.

Didn't stay at the resort but they have a turtle conservation program that is nice to support.

The only Hotel on this small island in front of Kapas Island. Time stops here, facing the sea on one side and the other, with one activity: enjoy the view, beach, diving, the lazy…
The restaurant is of rather good quality, but the prices are high. The Spa is also more expensive than traditionally in Malaysia, but the sea view and the frame offset this surplus.
In short, Hotel a little aging but keeps assets some.
