The Frame Guesthouse Hostel

It is literally impossible to sleep at this hostel. Despite the quiet time being 8-11 guests ignored this and staff talked loudly right under our room at 7am. Guests made noise late into the night. It is a very echoey space, and people are asked to be mindful of this in a miniature, barely legible sign on the door, but in reality even staff make a lot of noise. The room had no outside windows and not enough showers are available. They offer free earplugs for a reason, and they don't stay in all through the night. It looks hipster and stylish but you can hear a pin drop two floors up and it sound like a bowling ball. They lock the door at night but that just means people ring the doorbell late into the night which is also heard from all over the hostel. The lock on the only shower I could find was broken also. The rooms are very bare, with only a bed and one clothes rail.

The staff is very easy going and will explain and help you if you have any questions. The location is pretty great too. You're right in the center for most popular attractions, restaurants, shops, and street food. If you need a spot for 1-3 days to kick it, The Frame Guesthouse is a great option.

Premium location, great staff, super cool industrial theme! This hostel is located in the best part of Georgetown. Walking distance to literally everything. Hot showers, cold A/C and clean rooms. Everyone we met at the front desk was very friendly and helpful! Layed back atmosphere with a full sized kitchen to cook your own meals. If you are looking for a gym, you can easily walk to Olympic Gym which is 10 minutes away. We enjoyed our stay at The Frame and would highly recommend it to anyone else.

Great place. Easy to find. Near street markets and Love Lane. Breakfast was toast and watermelon. Bathroom is open air which is cool looking but not at night with bugs around so be careful not to stand around lightbulbs when it gets dark! We booked an extra night due to comfort and value for money.

I love it here. The front house staffs are super friendly. Every morning will have free coffee, tea, fruits and toasts. They also provide unlimited drinking water. U just have to reuse ur water bottle to refill each day. Definitely will come again in the future.

Nice, simply furnished but very comfortable room, with great air con. There are plenty of showers with hot water available all the time, but there aren't toilets on every floor. Strange vibe as it's not a very sociable hostel. Very well located on Chulia Street so it's very easy to get to nightlife, Hawker markets and checking the streets out around Georgetown. The breakfast is bread, fruit, tea and coffee, much like all other hostels round Asia.

Great breakfast. Clean (everyday I stayed there I saw the hostel floor and shower areas being cleaned multiple times). It's in the middle of Georgetown, so you get within walking distance of almost every heritage attractions. Also, good food nearby (perhaps the best in Malaysia? ) from several nationalities. The staff is also really friendly.

Great place to spend your nights in George Town. Good breakfast, clean rooms and bathrooms. Friendly staff and good price. Come here, you won't regret it!

Lovely place. Went to many hostels in Penang and with combination of old world charm, modern design and facilities, very friendly and helpful staff and impeccable cleanliness it is by far the best. Actually one of my favourite hostels ever. Incredibly comfortable beds and pillows. A couple of plants on the upper floors would make atmosphere even better. Good fruit and coffee and great showers. Thanks guys!

Cleanliness is okay. Price is RM45 a night as of June 2018. Towel is provided. Filtered water and breakfast with tea and coffee. Good for people who like backpacking style. There’s another one 2 mins away ‘ House of Journey’. Only thing that annoyed me is that some people don’t obey the rules to keep noise level down during the night. Everything is okay for the price. You share with 3 other room mate.

Love it, good location, super nice and informative staff, it's a guesthouse in a heritage building (do considerate) they have cool and spacious communal area, with books, coffee and tea. they provide toast and fruits in the morning have enough shower and toilet, nice hot water.

Cute little place but mostly seems for couples, not much in terms of interactive backpacker hoste environment. Also the walls/floors are super thin so you hear everything. Staff was really nice which was a big plus.

The Frame Guesthouse was a very smooth and exciting new experience for me! I must say I was very happy with the facilities provided (plenty of showers and toilets and wash rooms, toaster, breakfast provided, tea coffee, towels if you ask nicely, nice comfy beds with clean sheets and pillows, individual pretty decent sized lockers… The list goes on). Cleanliness I am not a princess so I found it very, very satisfactory for me. The service was great, we actually booked the wrong nights (oops) but after a quick chat with the receptionist ladies they easily slotted us into another room and cancelled our incorrect dates so no issues there! The lads at the counter were also very friendly and helpful whenever I came down to just relax, they were always there if you wanted to have a chat or ask any questions or recommendations. The station is manned 24 hrs a day so you always have great service available. The frame Guesthouse is on chulia Street, which is one of the "street that never sleeps" in penang. This presented a great opportunity for us to easily wander around and discover while being close to home. The only downside is that the traffic noise is pretty loud at night so make sure to bring some earphones or earplugs if you are sensitive to noise while sleeping. I had a great experience at the frame guesthouse! I would totally recommend this place to budget travellers.

Good backpackers hotel. would definitely stay here in the future. Toilet and room's bedsheet and towel were clean, there was plenty of spaces to socialize with other guests, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful (shoutout to Din and John! ). location was also strategic — you can go almost everywhere in the Heritage Area by foot. only drawback is the noise, not from the outside street, but from creaking floors. But they do have 'quiet hours' so the hotel would be quiet at night to sleep.

The location is excellent, the food is visited and the photo attractions are nearby.
There is no special beauty of the decoration looks old, but everything, inside is also very clean. Favorite the first floor of the ballroom, unlimited supply of hot tea and hot coffee, whenever it is raining or tired want to rest on the back to sit down, save money to the cafe.

A really nice, mininal space with convenient location. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, wish the beds had curtains. Basic toast breakfast but also with fresh fruit. Really hot water. Staff is very helpful, especially the overnight attendant who gave me many amazing recommendations. Wifi is slow, but better than nothing. Great location near street food, street art, bars, and bus stop.

Great location, very clean and a warm rustic yet trendy feel. The night manager was very friendly and welcoming. The free mangoes from the tree at the back were delicious! I really enjoyed staying here. Free toast and tea/ coffee in the morning. I would recommend if you’re looking to stay in Penang.

Wonderful place! Chilled and friendly hostel with good basic breakfast and clean rooms with a personal light and plug at each bed. Awesome real hot showers and toilets. Good Wi-Fi and tea and coffee all day long! Don't stay at super cheap hostels. They are not worth it!

Very good hostel. You can find cheaper in the area but honestly the little difference worth it. Everything works good. Comfortable beds, nice and clean toilets and showers. Coffee and tea for free until night and breakfast (jam and toasts) included. The Wi-Fi works pretty good for the average in the area, and it is great located!

The Frame guesthouse is probably one of the most unique guest houses that I've stayed in. It's a beautiful building with a really mellow atmosphere. The location is great for exploring and light sleepers will appreciate the earplugs available at reception to help reduce the volume of the prayer call. Would absolutely stay again.

Very nice place stay! However, our room was close to the street so it was a bit noisy during the night. When you are more inside I think that just fine :)

The good: — Aesthetic / decor — Staff are friendly — Great location The bad: — Always noisey. Especially the rooms off the kitchen where you won't sleep undisturbed outside of 1am — 7am. No insulation in the ceiling so you'll hear everything in the room above, and only wooden slat windows between you and the kitchen. — Bed bugs : (we'd seen this mentioned in some other comments but took a chance. I ended up covered in bites. Horrible. Seems to be a known issue that they've been unable to resolve in some rooms (prob because of the wooden floorboards). — Wifi lacking throughout hotel.

One word: Awesome! This place was literally one of the best backpackers hostel I've been to. I've stayed in a double bed dorm which could accommodate 2 person in 1 bed which was highly convenient for me and my travel partner. The breakfast was somehow not very good as they only serve typical bread and spread. The only downside was the noise coming from a bar beside the hostel which was unbearable to us especially when sleeping. However, we can get free earplugs from the reception counter which comes in handy for us.

Nice hostel. The double room with aircon was comfortable and perfect for the price.

Great backpackers hostel, Due to the location you can get around Penang with ease! The bus station only 10 min walk away.

This place felt overpriced for what it was. Nothing special about the breakfast, the room was unfinished and poorly done, air con leaked and walls were paper thin.

Basic, nice, good concept, should have toilet at every level.

Chic urban industrial design at its minimal. The bedroom is cozy and clean, shared spaces are comfortable and spacious. Love the free flow coffee every morning. Internet is okay too. Will definitely recommend this place!

Great location. Cosy place with all the facilities you need. Reasonably priced. Had a good stay. Nothing much not to like.

AWFUL accomodation. Stayed in one of only two private ensuite rooms. Room is located immediately next to the common showers and toilets. No insulation in room so if anyone had a bad curry (which happened often) we heard all about it. Toilet gurgles loudly for almost a minute every time any other toilet in the guest house is flushed. Management fail to publicise or enforce the 11 pm to 8 am quiet rule so there is constant noise and shouting from other guests. Notice on door says room to be serviced every three days, was there four nights /five days and room not serviced at all. No shoes allowed in guest house and unsealed converted floors so room needs servicing to keep bed sheets hygenic. Only window in room opens onto common showers so constantly damp and dark like a wet cave. Louvers on window for privacy located on outside of room so anyone can tilt them and look in anytime. Horrible stay, do not inflict this on yourself or others unless you very much dislike them.

Would be 5star but I left my bag in a locked room out the back while went away for a week. When we got back the door was unlocked and at the airport I discovered an Oppo7 nearly new smartphone had been stolen from it! Luckily they didn't take the laptop!
Other than this the place is clean, great location, good brekky and super hipster chique and the staff are friendly and helpful. So don't leave your stuff here unless it's safely locked in a room and you will have a great time.

Very clean and friendly staff. The only trouble was the noise, not from the street but guests. It's an industrial concept and noise travels especially when the common area and stairs are right below your room. Everything else is great.

Absolute guest friendly hostel. The keepers are warm and welcoming.

We got a private room this week only to realize that its full of bedbugs and ticks! we have bites all over and the staff just told us to change the sheets. I even found 1 big tick on my bag when I was already at the airport! I have photos and vids to prove it.

It was clean and very good location.

New questhouse, clean, simple but sufficient facilities, Wi-Fi working well, friendly staff and nice common area. The only downside was that the dorms were noisy during night because windows face a quite busy road.

Love it. Helpful and friendly staffs. Kind of a modern art gallery. Will be back again.

Very cool, very modern, very clean. Perfect for solo travellers, as the commom area is great to meet people.
