I have been fabulous places around the world, but this to my utter surprise was a true gem just around the corner (or ca 250 km north east from home).
Ok, the images I viewed before booking were amazing enough to be intrigued, but then I dialled their number and was received on the phone like a long-lost friend; I spoke a silly joke (don't know any other kind) and instead of stupified "ahmm" reaction I heard a ringing laughter in my earpiece and I somehow knew that was the place we are about to be going to a few days later.
On top of the countless THINGS people rush to describe here, I will highlight the humblest, yet the MOST IMPORTANT ingredient in the whole painting of our experience — THE STAFF and its SUPERLATIVE SHOW OF HOSPITALITY.
In other words, we could carve angels out of wood, serve delicious treats in finest bone china with golden cutlery, we might lay tables with snow-white table cloths and build walls of dearest marble, but without a heart to make the visible alive and without a smile to make one feel welcome and appreciated it would all have NO VALUE whatsoever.
Bahnhofs Hotel Aluksne have THAT heart. They have THAT smile. The rest is brilliant and unforgettable, but nearly unimportant.
