Very expensive hotel, I do not understand the price 900 € for a night without sea view with view on the courtyard which is ugly … water from m to warm shower… and no swimming pool… all the 4 star hotels we visited during our trip to Liguria and Tuscany were far above in terms of décor, service, atmosphere, setting… we didn't test the spa… and indeed this service allows the hotel to obtain the 5 star … there are very few hotels in portovenere unfortunately… so difficult to make a choice… too bad, I was expecting another experience for a 5 star! The children were also very disappointed…

This place is absolutely gorgeous… we were greated by smiling friendly staff, who gave us a wealth of information.
We arrived in our room and the view took our breath away

We just got back from a walk and had a welcome platter of fruit, olive oil and olives waiting for us, with a welcome from the manager.
Cant wait for my Italian cooking class tomorrow with the restaurant chef. This hotel is worth its weight in gold… highly recommend it. …

This hotel is a true gem. The location is perfect, the staff is outstanding, the building itself is fresh, clean and completely inspiring. Not only did I get married here to the man of my dreams, but we have since been back and plan to make it an annual destination! The Grand Hotel Portovenere remains at the top of our hotel recommendations in all of Italy!

Why Not 5 Stars: Our rate mid July was $414.00 average per night. This was the 3rd hotel we stayed and the smallest and most expensive room BY FAR. It felt a lot like my college dorm room in size. Yes, it was a nice room with private bathroom, but nothing about this room was worth $400+. Why 4 Stars: The staff at the front desk were very nice and helpful. The breakfast staff were also helpful. Good complementary breakfast, slightly above other hotels. We did have dinner here and it was good, not great or excellent, but good. Location is excellent but that is relative now isn't it, because it depends on what you are going after. For us, great location. Right at the base of the main harbor, across the street you can catch a water taxi or the hop on, hop off Cinque Terre boat tour. On the veranda they had live music, which was nice. I would stay here again, but not at $400+ a night for the same room.

Great views from the junior suite. Very relaxing. Gym is good size and seperate from the hotel so you have to ask hotel how to get there. Be warned that there is no way to park your car outside of the front of the hotel since there is no space. We were dropped off by the hotel garage and then had to get bell desk to help us. Wifi in our room was bad which is odd because it worked better outside of the hotel.

I work in the setand I stayed at this property on the return from a business appointment. The location directly on the port of Porto Venus is definitely 5 stars, but the design definitely not. It's a 4-star superior but the service is the environments are not from 5 stars. Very rude racefare who chooses to address customers more abruptly with an economy or middle class car rather than those who arrive in luxury cars; the SPA that is saved only thanks to the very good and kind girls who work there and strive to make you imagine in a SPA but nothing but a former warehouse warehouse with inside a hot tub with water smelling of tin, a sauna, a steam room and two sunbeds. Decidedly a squalor; the restaurant with great views and great dishes can bring back the good mood but you get lost already in the morning on waking up with a 3-star breakfast really nothing that is with the staff that just get up to pick up something else leaving the food started to eat on the table, clearing and from the table to other customers because the sea view outdoor tables are few and go to steal; the room nothing exceptional, clean, but in the evening no covers strange thing for a 5 star; friendly, professional and helpful reception.

Stayed on April 20th. Rooms and excellent service but especially the restaurant for its top notch food deserves the 5 stars.

An exceptional location, a beautiful view for a very neat and pleasant place. The staff are very attentive, the décor sober and very tasteful. Clean, high quality facilities and excellent cuisine.

This hotel is excellent in every way! The location is perfect, the rooms are very comfortable, and the staff is friendly and efficient. Don't miss their restaurant, Palmeria, because the view, food, and staff cannot be topped!

Fabulous Panorama with terrace overlooking the sea and the Church of St. Peter, the staff is courteous and friendly. Aperitifs can be enjoyed with a breathtaking sunset or candlelit dinners. Only downside: The price a little high, but it deserves. Recommended.

My room was on the 4 floor and with no one to help me with the luggage, the place is spotless and the. Nice breakfast.

Really nice hotel with a wonderful view. Restaurant is a bit odd and tries to be higher end than it should. Even gave my wife a menu without prices (mine had them) and it wasn't an error. But the hotel itself and staff was great.

Perfect location for a visit to Cinqueterre!
We had a room with a terrasse and an amazing view; the staff was very nice; the Restaurant also has a beautiful terrasse and best view in town. My only disappointment was with the Restaurant at night, the food was just ok and clearly over-priced. However there are a lot of Restaurant options within walking distance so not a pb. We rented a boat at the hotel for the day and had the best experience of Cinqueterre one could ever dream of!

We stayed here for 3 nights in August 2017. Out of the four hotels we stayed at during our 10 day trip, this was our least favorite. This is a nice hotel, but nothing spectacular and not worth the price. Pros: the location is great. Our room had a balcony that overlooked the marina, which was wonderful. The room was also a nice size. Breakfast is very good and is served outside on the patio. Overall, the staff was helpful and accommodating. Cons: overpriced for what you get. This was the least comfortable bed we came across in Italy. You can hear the water running every time your neighbor flushes the toilet. They nickle and dime you. The beach club was 40 euros. It is a 10 minute walk and is pricey. They did not tell us there was a charge to use the beach club so that was a nice surprise on our room bill. Had we known there was such a high charge, then we would have stayed at the beach club longer than we did to get our money's worth. We asked for the hotel to call us a cab to the train station, which they happily did. However, the posted flat rate cab fares from the train station to the hotel was only 35 euros. The cab they called us (which had their hotel name on the side) charged us 50 euros. While this is a nice hotel, I felt ripped off at the end of the trip. Three nights with the one day beach club was $1, 200. It just wasn't worth it which was sad because I was really looking forward to this hotel.

Best hotel I've been to. Breathtaking view of Portovenere, and the most delicious breakfast. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the parking is fundamental for portovenere.

The hotel is wonderful. Beautiful views, wine and wonderful food. Dinner on the balcony was to die for. The staff are very attentive. A bottle of prosecco on ice and sweet meats in our room was a wonderful, much appreciated surprise.

I don't know if this is a 5 star hotel, but that's how I'm rating it. Lets get some things out of the way, the elevators are slow and tedious at times, that is my only complaint about this hotel. Every single other thing was modern and luxurious. The resaurant and bar where you will be eating your complimentary breakfast has a patio with a beautiful view of the water and the rest of town. We did not have a sea side room, but even the view from the back of the hotel is pretty amazing, you can still see the Apuan Alps (granted we were on the top floor).

A modern hotel close to everything in the heart of Portovenere. Smallish rooms, but well appointed. Good quality toiletries and well designed bathrooms. A room with a terrace is worth it. It's nice to sit and watch the world or read a book when the sun is going down. Nice breakfast offerings and helpful bar staff.

Lovely modern hotel in a great location. Breakfast buffet is excellent quality with plenty of variety. Air conditioning works well very important in July. My room was small but big enough for one person with a big queen size bed.

Beautiful hotel with an amazing view! In our 2 week journey in Italy, the nights we stayed at the Grand Hotel were the most comfortable and relaxing. The staff was very kind, efficient and helpful. The outdoor patio where we had afternoon snacks/drinks was so relaxing and had the very best view in the area. Wish we were still there!

We just spent three nights at the newly remodeled GHP and loved it! The room was a good size and very clean, hotel staff very friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet excellent. Portovenere is charming and a lot less crowded than Cinque Terre. I can only recommend it!

A fantastic (5*) Cinque Terra/Italy experience for our family at GHP! The hotel services, location/vista and accommodations were Outstanding, and the Staff (especially Irene and Laura) were very friendly and gracious! I thought this hotel had a fantastic location. I could visit the Cinque Terre with the ferry that departs 2 minutes away from the hotel by foot, and was really surprised by how pretty the village of Porto Venere is. I had a room with a good size and comfy bed, and I loved the view of the historic center with its colorful buildings. The free onsite garage is a super plus.

We were most disappointed at our recent stay (November 2010). We booked an ocean view room and we could see the lovely view between the solid cement walled balcony (which was tiny) and the roof/guttering/air conditioning vent. We were staying for 5 nights and asked to change rooms, which we were able to do after two nights (our second room was much better and had a great balcony possibly similar to what is referred to in other reviews). The room itself was quite small and presented as a 2 star complete with cheap furniture and a cigarette burn in the bed spread (thought the hotel was non smoking). We presume the 4 star rating of this hotel comes from the view and some of the services they offer. The shower was tiny — hit your arms against the walls when washing your hair, and the floor of the shower was cracked. The chamber maid woke us talking loudly in the hallway. The breakfast was incredibly disappointing — stale bread which progressively got staler each day, bruised fruit or tinned fruit, a toaster which didn't toast. The lift was sloooooooooow and tiny. Where possible we took the stairs as sometimes you could wait more than 5 minutes for the lift (that is not an exaggeration) and with luggage, the lift really only fitted one person in. The reception staff spoke English but were not particularly helpful (with the exception of one of the ladies who was very helpful) and at times gave us incorrect information. The internet is expensive and slow.
