Piazza Navona is one of the most famous squares of Rome, built by the Pamphili family. Its shape is that of an ancient stadium: it was built in monumental style by the behest of Pope Innocent X.
Piazza Navona, at the time of ancient Rome, was the stadium of Domitian which was built by Emperor Domitian in 85 and III century was restored by Alessandro Severo. It was 276 meters long, 106 wide and could accommodate 30.000 spectators.
The stadium was richly decorated with some statues, one of which is that of Pasquino (perhaps a copy of a Hellenistic parchment group that is presumed to represent Menelaus who holds the body of Patroclus), now in the homonymous square next to Piazza Navona.

What about it? Even for a Roman like me this square is a remarkable point of attraction and recall. Sometimes you have to go back. The blocks around the square constitute the fifth of a unique backdrop, unforgettable and unrepeatable. Always full of tourists, preserves intact its charm in time. And every time you discover a more beauty.

A very lively square that represent another hallmark of Rome. It has a very unique character morning and evening. There is a fountain that most people want to take pictures with. But also there are a very diverse artistic activities around. Toy can find painters, charecateur drawers, metal art necklaces makers. Walking around this place will take you to another world. It's a nice thing also to walk to and from this place to other Roman sites and to sit for a drink or a meal in the near by restaurants.

Beautiful square in Rome. Come to all the churches located on the square and close by, they are very beautiful inside. You can also get to the choir concert, which in itself is great.

This goes on everyone’s list of favorite places in Rome. The fountain of Neptune and the other fountains make it simply magical. The excavations of the stadium beneath are fascinating as well and somewhat newly open. The church of St Agnes imposes in a beautiful way over the plaza. Artists and children, nuns and tourists are all gathered here. Step away from the piazza a few blocks in order to find more affordable food. You’ll pay 2 euros for an espresso or less most places but in the piazza you’ll pay 6. Just go, sit on a marble bench, and take it in! Take a few photos and then put your phone away and just soak up the sun and the beautiful fountains.

Very nice and romantic view. After all the tourist places with crowds of people, it seems that there I finally found a local calories… Where it smelled Italian, not a mixture of many tourists. You can sit there on a bench for hours and feel the spirit of the city… Listen to the local musician playing Joe Satriani not worse than the original performer, look at the beautiful sculptures and fountains and how the whole world revolves around all this)

Baroque square with elongated and rectangular shape born on the ancient Stadium of Domitian. You can admire three beautiful fountains, in the middle of the fountain of rivers. It takes the name of the four great rivers known at the time: Nile, Danube, Ganges and the river of the Plata. On its right and left you can admire the fountain of the moor and that of Neptune. On the same square is the Church of Santa Agnese in Agone. Very nice its inside. The square is surrounded by small and cozy restaurants.

Amazing place to stroll for Rome. It is very impressive and it is a beautiful place. If you go you will not regret.

Here you can linger in peace and watch the hustle and bustle on the square. All around the square there are nice restaurants that invite you to linger.

This place was judged the most beautiful place in the world.
On the way we understand why, this one is composed of three fountains including a very large one in the middle.
Little anecdote know that the sculptor who created the fountain in the middle is an enemy of the one who built the church in front of it. So you can see one of the characters in the fountain hiding his eyes in front of the church in protest to the artist.

This is one of the most beautiful squares in Rome! Be sure to go to the Church of St. Agnes, it is simply luxurious! The area is also decorated with the Mavra fountain, the Mavra sculpture was made by the outstanding Bernini, and Neptune's fountain. In the center of the square is a huge beautiful fountain of four rivers above which rises an Egyptian obelisk. After you look at all these beauties, be sure to sit and have a snack in one of the many restaurants surrounding this beautiful square!

Typical Italian square with the coffee house with the classic offer. Nice operation and good quality at a relatively good price. The flair distinguishes this place. It is always an experience and it would be a big mistake to visit Rome without Piazza Navona. LG Dr Pelikan.

Historical square with beautiful fountains. Great to sit with your loved one and just take it all in. You must visit this place if you go to Rome. I wouldn't recommend eating in the square because it is very pricey, however, there are lots of places to eat near the square. It was raining when we went but it didn't ruin the scenary, it was just as nice to sit under the brolly with my lovely girlfriend.

The square is a very interesting place in Rome. You have three sources in it. It is the meeting place of artists, tourists and locals. It is surrounded by restaurants where you can sit and enjoy the view. Don't miss it.

The colors of the square both day and night change completely. The evening bills lit up and their imposing sculptures. Different cafes around make you take a dessert in sunset be unforgettable.

We loved this square of Rome both for its ambience and for its beauty we were greeted in a big way with a man making soap bubbles that pleased both the kids and the elderly. We enjoyed the magic of the atmosphere full of soap bubbles and listening to live music. A Marvel Plus Plaza has sculptures, fountains and very nice buildings.
It is still a center of the social, cultural and tourist life of the city. It was already from ancient Rome, where a stadium was erected for sporting competitions and gladiatorial battles.
Deserves a visit.

A truly romantic place! I can come here every day and not get bored. There's a variety of street artists and musicians, who are always capable of making your day. Beautiful welcoming restaurants placing their tables on the plaza itself always good for two people to share a romantic dinner. Beautiful buildings all around and the statues from the fountains keeping you company.

In ancient times it was a stadium. And it was used exclusively for athletics competitions. Piazza Navona is a square, pardon me is the typically Baroque square of Rome…
The name Navona is given thanks to the elliptical spatial shape, which leads back to the shape of a typical ship…
But here we realize that it is not all so simple, Rome has more than 2000 years experiencing a first imperial hegemony from which derives the shape of the square, initially given by the ancient "Stadium of Diocletian.
Nowadays we reach this space, crossing small, at the same time particular alleys, reaching a vast area bounded throughout its perimeter by period palaces and places of worship and at the same time at the ends of space 2 incredible Fountains, that of the moor and that of Neptune.

It's a beautiful place with a lot of people. But what a pity that have not read the menu of restaurants quietly. Barely in front of the waiter jumps on you it's unpleasant because they all do, you will have to count 4, 50 for a simple coffee if you decide to have lunch there it takes 2 for the cutlery but not everywhere! It's a must-see.

The square is very beautiful and full of life. In the middle of the square you will find an obelisk and the sides of the same two beautiful fountains. Also worth a visit is the church which is in the middle of the square. The square is surrounded by buildings, under which you will find many restaurants. You will have a way, if you like, to make you also a portrait in minutes from the artists of the place.

Nice big open plaza with good places to eat, nearby cathedrals, beautiful fountains and obelisks. Saw a guy doing a fire dancer routine who was so excited that he screamed out in a terrible English accent: "this is my job, and my life. " Just don't accept anything free from anyone or let people get too close and chummy quickly because it's always a scam.

Very cozy and beautiful square, where life flows smoothly. About other tourist places in Rome and March was not crowded with people. You can relax sitting by the fountain listening to street musicians.

Beautiful plaza in the heart of Rome. Multiple fountains and monuments are in the square. There are inscriptions to read about what you are looking at. Multiple restaurants have outdoor seating to enjoy the views as well as to watch people coming and going. There are space heaters to keep you warm if you are there during winter.

As anywhere in historic Rome, this place is busy with architectural and historic details. A perfect place to spend an evening with friends or as a couple. This place is a square (Piazza) with a central fountain that is large and two smaller fountains on its side. The church behind it is also interesting with a unique architecture. Many interesting shops and lovely cafes all around the fountains make for a perfect evening out exploring Rome. Loved it.

Is there a historic landmark in Rome that isn't spectacular? I only wish that I had read more about the most famous ones before I went. There's so many neat facts out there that aid in your appreciation of each one. For example, I wish I had known at Piazza Navona that I was looking at the work of Bernini in the Fountain of the Four Rivers!

But, unfortunately, very strained dominance of any… Chi offering all kinds of XP. Lowers. And Carabinieri, standing type with business view, do not pay any attention to it. Just inflate the cheeks, like the whole of Europe, and do nothing. Apparently the top do not give. Arabs, Africans, … only Chjukchej not noticed. But, it is in Rome everywhere so. To the great regret…

It is a large square in the middle of Rome's Old Town. Located near the Pantheon (very impressive), Piazza Navona is also worth a short visit. Especially the church and the fountains are impressive. The cafes are very expensive (coffee 4€) and therefore not necessarily recommended.

The famous Piazza Navona in is a genuine work of art in the open air, where it is always crowded. The baroque Piazza Navonachuvstvuetsja a heartbeat, as tourists and locals walk here from morning to night. In the evening it gets a mysterious look and fascinates with its amazing beauty. The former water circus and the Imperial Stadium Schitajutsjaodnimi of the most popular places among tourists.

Lovely place with a great atmosphere. Restaurants were plentiful and loads of great food. A couple of interesting shops and lots of people selling stuff in the road but not much else happening though. Basically a good place to stop off at and have a meal and beverage before a slow trundle back to the hotel.

One of the main tourist attractions of Rome. There are several baroque churches and palaces along the perimeter. To the middle of 19th. Fairs and competitions were held on the square. A lot of tourists both day and evening. Elongated in a long, rectangular shape is quite a large area. A large number of restaurants with the possibility to sit inside and outdoors. The pedestrian area to call a taxi will have to go beyond it.

The fountain is a work of art, the Basilica of Saint Agnes is very impressive both outside and inside, the museum under the square is small but interesting. Museums around, atmospheric streets leading to the square. The real center of Rome.

Known especially for its wonderful fountain, also known as the Four rivers (representing the Danube, the Ganges, the Nile and the Rio della Plata), conceived by the sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bettini between July 1648 and 1641. It is located in front of the church of S. Agnese in Agone (church realized on Project of Borromini). It Was built by the Pamphili family, in the shape of an old stadium and in a monumental style by the will of Pope Innocenzo X.

Strolling through the stalls of Piazza Navona during the Christmas holidays is always a great thrill! There are many reasons to recommend this gelato: The first is ice cream: quality, fresh ingredients, variety and originality; The second motivation concerns the other products: semifreddo cakes, mini-ices, smoothies, crepes and much more always of excellent quality (not to mention the aesthetic aspect). The third but not least concerns the owners: they are two professionals with a smile and great helpfulness. Recommended!

Beautiful Square of international notoriety for the artistic fountains and the position in the center of Rome. For decades the home of the Befana Christmas market. Unfortunately in recent years the tradition has been interrupted by the usual bureaucratic squabbles and tethers. In 2017 you came back to see stalls after nothing in recent years. But nothing comparable to about ten years ago.

One of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful square in Rome. A large arena full of artists, bars and restaurants in the open air, markets and, at Christmas, an ancient carousel for children. Along the central axis of the square there are three beautiful fountains. All framed by great old palaces. One of the places to be seen obligatorily together with the Colosseum and St. Peter.

Since It was a stadium and not a circus, there were no prisons (the gates from which The racehorses came out) nor the thorn (the partition wall around which The horses ran), such as the Circus Maximus, but it was all free and used for the athletes ' competitions. The Obeliscoche is now in the center of the square was not there, but it comes from the circus Maxentius, which is still on the Via Appia.

Loved this place — we had dinner at one of the restaurants and a small music group came and played during most of the meal, you could hear them throughout the piazza. Very picturesque, as is all of Rome. Also has a decent selection of gelato shops. I found it very interesting to read in a nearby museum that this piazza is the site of a former stadium — read about it, it's pretty cool!

Absolutely beautiful at night. Illuminated fountain in the center of the piazza. Lots of open air cafes, couples having romantic meetings, street entertainers and vendors. Cafes down every side street. If I could I would have spent every night there.

Great place to visit for a few minutes. The main fountain is worth looking up or listening to a guide. Restaurants at the location seem to be tourist traps, but great restaurants within walk-in distances.

Lovely place. Comes alive in the evening. Not sure about all the little light things being thrown about, but it does make it interesting. Had a lovely pizza round. The back street from the square. Bit cheaper and great quality.
