Review of M&J Place Hostel Rome

BED BUGS! First night, no sleep. The room must have been at least 35°. Two of our group of 8 slept on the floor due to the abhorrent sleeping conditions. We paid for the MANDATORY linen which we then used to line the wooden floor. One of the beds was infested with a nest of bedbugs. We woke up to the bloodstained linen sheets as one of our members was bitten at least 30 times by the bugs around 3 hours into his sleep. Not only were there bed bugs but the pillows we were given was like sleeping on a bag of tennis balls! The communal showering conditions were pretty pathetic. The shower dribbled down from the ceiling which was barley enough to wash off the bloodstains which covered my friends back and legs. In the morning we went down to the reception to complain about our horrendous ordeal. A staff member quickly responded to confirm the infestation. We were told that they would deal with the situation. After six of us came back from a day out sightseeing in Rome we found out that we had been kicked out the room. We were not allowed to stay in the room or hostel as it was "too dangerous" to return, and the hostel was already full. We got all three nights refunded including the first night and thanks to cooperative staff they also helped to find us a nearby hostel for the rest off the trip (when in Rome b and b which we recommend as a much better, cheaper alternative). All good right? WRONG! HERE'S THE TWIST: When the two remaining members of our group returned that night not only did they not find their friends and bags, or even an cordoned off room but two more weary, unserspecting victims pumped into the vacuum left by our swift departure. stay the hell away.
