Pleasantly surprised! Got this deal from Dealrush and after reading some unfavourable reviews, we are pleasantly surprised. Very clean with everything we could want, staff very friendly and helpful. Bright and well lit. Room a tad on the small side but it's lovely with great view from window for a city hotel (old listed building surrounded by a courtyard) and we have a full size bath! Plenty of hot water. It's much nicer than we expected. Food is really great — their buttermilk chicken is to die for! Wonderful beds! We highly recommend the Royal Hotel. We weren't expecting a palace but we got so much more than led to believe by some reviewers! AAA+

If you want a good night's sleep don't stay here. Could hear the drunken people up until 2am. Travelled 12 hours to get here and did not sleep at all. I have travelled around the World and this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. You will get no sleep in room 258 too much noise in room, single glazed windows on a very busy constant traffic main road. Work men pressure washing outside the window at 6am. Traffic noise is horrendous you can even hear the pelican crossing going all of the time. Can hear conversations people are having on the street below 2 floors up. Bathroom window has a big chunk out of the privacy screen on the window so everyone outside can see you in the bathroom. Toilet does not flush. Bathroom is poorly cleaned grime all around the bath. Television gadget does not work. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Not a lot of positives from this visit. Arranged to check in at 0030 but when I got to the hotel no staff could be found. After ringing for well over 10 minutes someone finally showed up. Got the keys and headed to my room only for the keys not to work! Back to reception I went, night porter gone again. Finally got to my room and it was 27'c and the bed and pillows were rock hard. The traffic noise was absolutely shocking, seriously guys invest in double glazing! Long story short, I won't be going back!

The rooms are spacious and the spa is nice.

Clean but a little old, we sleep well, 2 restaurants (the one of the hotel and the pub communicating, the 2nd is more affordable and we discover good dishes) parking cars and 2 places coaches (good) …

Great location, minutes from seaside and train station. Enjoyed my stay with good leisure centre / spa facilities. Breakfast was good with hot and continental options.

A nice mid-size hotel that has come a little bit in the years but still offers good rooms and excellent service. If you don't like the noisy and expensive Dublin, you can get a good price and performance ratio here. Also ideal for trips to the Wicklow Mountains.

Stayed here for my birthday weekend and it was great… Our room was very modern and clean … Great location for seafront where the night life was buzzing … Food was good and loads of parking at back of hotel.

The hotel is nothing like the pictures that they use to advertise it. The pictures are of the spa that is attached to the hotel. The hotel itself is a old historic hotel which means a lot of hallways and stairs. To get to reception, you have to go through the spa, a bar, and a long hallway. You also have to carry your luggage through those as well. The rooms are outdated… t. V. Didn't work, stains on sheets, cigarette butts and a sock on outside window ledge. Something just felt off about this hotel and the area that it is in. We were in the room a few hours but had an uneasy feeling and went to a different hotel in Dublin so that we could feel safe while sleeping.

The room was cold, barely any hot water, had to leave the shower on for ages to get a little bit warm. Spa treatment was cancelled too.

There was really loud drilling on the floor above us for a brief few minutes, at 11am. Sad to say I will not be returning due to these issues. Update : Got call from leisure centre at 9am on day of check out to say the spa treatments I had booked for my girlfriend 2 weeks previous wouldn't be available as therapist had rang in sick. Just couldn't recommend this service to anyone so I have dropped the star rating to one.

Disappointing. Definitely not above 2stars. The room was dirty, old torn linens. Broken lamps. Bathroom was moldy. Bed was good but the water in bath was Brown and took 20 minutes to get hot water. The most overpriced room w b&b I have ever experienced. 160pn is too much. Wasted $$ for a family birthday party. Upsetting.

Overpriced for and old un updated hotel. Very disappointed. Dont bother with breakfast not worth €10. Staff is very nice and helpful. Annoyed and look of room old ripped stained curtins and lamps. Mold in bath. Not worth over 50 a nite. We were robbed.

Rooms need updating, exterior decor also needs to be redone. Food not great but staff in hotel lovely. Leisure club beautiful.

Excellent hotel in best Co. Wiclow with a good location and easy access the conference room is comfortable good lighting.

Only home from a short stay here. Absolutely amazing staff really friendly. The swimming pool was lovely and clean. The Room was fantastic and the view from the window was amazing. The food was good but could have been better. Overall it was a fantastic hotel and would be delighted to go back some time.

Good place to go but check your glasses in the bar. 5.20 a pint and getting dirty glasses not acceptable sorry. Twice I've had things floating in my pint. Brought it to bar managers attention for him to shrug his shoulders.

Disgrace! Heating wasnt working, the place is old and outdated. The service at the pub is slow and staff are useless. Very expensive for what they are offering.

Nice hotel that is currently being rebuilt. The renovated rooms are relatively large. However, penitentially shaded rooms are a bit noisy. Some staff at the breakfast buffet and at the bar are a bit overwhelmed. Warning: You need swimming caps for the swimming pool. The gentlemen, too!

Single glazing: Poorly insulated and soundproofed rooms. No water available in the rooms, no bedside lamps. No heating, no lunch service not assumed until the end. One tip: Don't go!

I would never stay here again EVER dirty towels, no toiletries as advertised & not replenished. Stinking horrible corridors so bad I actually puked. Tiny so called double bedroom that barely has the space for one person let alone two. Requested iron the night before which eventually arrived after numerous phone calls to receive an iron with broken cable in several places. Couldn't get into hotel at night, banging on door furiously because no response to the bell… excuse given 'oh I forgot to take remote out of the drawer'. Had to pay for car parking which added additional cost to room rental. Horrible dirty smelly place, avoid at all cost… the establishment should be demolished. Disgusting.

I only use the leisure centre and I think it serves its purpose. The gym is never full and you have enough equipment to do all your workout and the pool is good. The cleanness of the changing rooms could be improved.

Room was cold no hot water and walls were very thin. Staff were rude. Also had to pay 5 euro for parking. Very disappointed, I would not reccommend this hotel, I would not come back again.

Staying on bray sea front for a few days (family brake) and my kids were looking for a swimming pool to swim in, a few locals recommend the Royal hotel as they have used it before in the past and we're not "members" me and my son had decided to take a trip just to inquire about times we met at nice young lad at hotel reception I asked him was the swimming pool open to the public as we were just staying on the seafront he said yes just walk down the corridor to the reception. So I went in with my son to be greeted by a girl on the phone I waited politely till she was finished got the impression she was on the phone to a boyfriend or a family member as when she was hanging up the phone she said OK ok love you bye bye. Anyway I asked the all mighty question is the swimming pool open to the public got shut down straight away! No oh No it's for members only! I didn't quite believe her as I walked off, so if it is just for members that's fine I understand but could someone please reply to make it clear to me and other people what the rules are regarding the pool to save people embarrassing them selves like me and my son had to. Room were old, dated and grubby. Smell of stale smoke from an earlier generation permeated all upper floors. To be fair the reception, dining rooms and bar are very modern and quite nice. The leisure facilities are as good as they get but the bedrooms really let the whole place down.

Great location. Close to the seafront restaurants and music bars, right by the train and bus stop for easy access to Dublin city or powerscourt. In the heart of Bray town. The hotel is slowly been updated with new lobby and recently new McGettigan bar. Food is excellent. Some of the rooms have been updated and some our still older decor. They are not high end rooms and need total make over for sure but they are fine for a place to stay. They are upgrading each rooms. Parking is available at a fee and yo will need a swim cap for the pool. Best of all is the staff. The front desk staff are so helpful. If you want a place to stay close to dublin and seafront this is a good hotel.

This is by far the worst hotel I've EVER stayed in the rooms are disgusting, the service is terrible, the TV is from the '80s, the windows have mold around the edges (not a word of a lie), the bed is equally revolting and the food/catering is utter trash. Do yourself a favor, and don't, I repeat DO NOT, stay in this dump. (And by the way, the Wi-Fi is most likely older than the building itself. )

Nice place to stay when you're in Bray. Don't expect a 5 star hotel for this price but it's pretty good.

Congratulations to The Royal Hotel & Merrill Leisure Club in Bray on their new McGettigan's Bar. The bar is spacious and comfortable with cosy seating to suit all ages and a menu for all tastes. Currently the bedrooms are being refurbished with minimum disruption. Our recent updated room was cosy, well serviced and everything one expects. The courteous and helpful staff made our 3 day break at this hotel most enjoyable. Their car park is a bonus too.

What a shit hole… stayed here last year for the Wicklow 200, but forgot to review. Couldn't turn off shower after using it and hot water coming from both taps. Twin room was very small and really in need of updating.

The Hotel seems to be old to be. The photos are very flattering. Clean it was, unfortunately, not. In the room was not vacuumed and there was garbage in the corners. The carpet had plenty of stains, the Wallpaper was torn off and it was glued to an indefinable mass of the chest of drawers.

Very welcoming hotel. Staff is welcoming, the bar/restaurant is good. Rooms are clean.

Stayed on sat nite after big hell and back adventure, room basic mostly clean but not great, toilet roll almost ran out when we arrived, no extra any where to be seen, holder for same hanging off wall. Dresser type item between twin bed was falling apart and I do mean apart, we found corner section on floor with nails pointing upwards. Windows unclean. Water took while to get to good temp but useable when there. Didnt eat here but had one drink, and have to say all the staff I came in contact with were great, helpful, and courtesy. Updating this as I had thought my bag had gone missing from the room while we were out, however I am very glad to say its been found safe and sound :) I want to thank both people that contacted me in ref to it and how helpful they both were. Katie I believe was one the other I am sorry I cant rem name. But big thank you. Royal not great for design and layout but your people make you worth the trip.

The Royal clearly has seen better days. Possibly quite a long time ago. It felt a bit cheap and with very 70s decor. The room had wired internet that had been disconnected and the Wi-Fi could reach as high as out floor (so easy to fix). A call to room service failed due to the wires hanging out of the phone socket.

Lifts were available but still need to negociate quite a few steps to get to room, once in room, on first impression the room was ok, on entering the bathroom, the rim around the top of the bath and bath tap a& around the sink was mouldy and looked unpleasant, the toilet was also loose, decor tired, dirty net curtains, electrical switches were a bit doggie, hole in plaster around light switch,. Food was ok.
