Great place. Friendly staff at the Hostel. Nicely equipped kitchen. The have a Mongolian Yurt you can stay in and it looks awesome! Easy to get to Using the Trams. Generally a relax place to stay at once you need to wind down from all of the partying in one of the cooles European cities!

We needed a bed spontaneously and it was no problem. The staff was really friendly and the bed was comfortable! We will come back :) Love.

Absolutely one of the best, if not the best hostel. Not just in Budapest. Atilla has put his heart and soul in to this place and you can clearly see that. The atmosphere is inclusive, the house is beautiful, and the price reflects adorable accommodation. I recommend Shantee House to everyone staying in Budapest.

This place is absolutely amazing. A very welcoming hostel with a very relaxed and laid back atmosphere. The staff as well as the visitors are very nice to you. You can choose to stay in a yurt or a room, with other people or your own place. Just pick what you like. It's very affordable as well, so if you are in Budapest and you want a relaxing place to stay and/or meet some people, definitely try this place.

I love this place! I'm staying here now. It's super chill with a Zen vibe. The people here are friendly and there's a cat amd dog to hang with. It's a bit far from the city center but they have bikes and skateboards for rent. Great place to relax and their rates are very reasonable.

Beautiful place, quiet location and friendly staff. It is usually exceptionally clean but this time the shower was dirty and without hot water. Another surprise was that you can pay by card only between 9am and 4pm (not sure exactly) so when you arrive later in the evening you have to pay in cash (HUF).

Shantee house❤️ everyone is so friendly and super here! they have amazing garden in the backyard, and all the shower and room is clean. Great atmosphere, the only con is that its located 20-30 mins away from city centre and everything is else. If you're fed up with party hostels and just wanna relax far away from city centre and people, then go here! :)

Great vibe, super wonderful staff and owner, wish I came in the summer to use outdoor accommodations (the yurt seems super cool). It's a hike from city center although there is a tram that runs frequently enough.

This hostel was the best that I have stayed at over my last 3 months in Europe. The room was set up for 5 and me and a buddy shared the whole place to ourselves. The price was perfect about 14 euros per night. The Hostel had heated floors in the bathroom and the shower. The shower had hot water and was large. The Hostel had both a golden retriever and a house cat on the property. This made the comforts of home appear for us. The staff was very kind and helpful. The Hostel was a bit of a hike from the main train station on the west side of the river (20 min). Other then this, and most of the attractions being on the east side of the river, it was a good location. The atmosphere was plesant and it was more of a peaceful meditation hostel, and was very silent. I would 10 out of 10 stay here again and recommend it to anyone staying in Budapest.

Exceptionally rude and uncooperative staff! The place had bed bugs and they weren't ready to even shift my room after I reported it! Also didn't refund my amount.

Really Good Hostel, the staff ist very friendly and helpful. Nice living room to chill out with couches, well equipped kitchen. Really nice atmosphere. As a special they've got an Outdoor-room, a mixture between tent and room, equipped with heatable sheets, providing enough heat for cold winter days. Location is a about 20 minutes from the centre, but good connection with bus and tram, even at night. Supermarket in walking distance.

I stayed at the Shantee House, which just had to be good with a name like that. And thats what it was, really good. I was warmly greeted. I awake this morning and I write to you from inside a yurt, a true blue mongolian yurt complete with traditional decorations. With my 5 companions asleep I follow the rays of sunshine which are the ribs of its roof and trace the circle of its walls round and round and round and round again, its footprint on the land. Amidst the traffic and the concrete, the rays of sunlight and the circles hold a calm relaxed foreverness which never gets troubled, which always touches the peace at its core, which knows nothing more that the peace of its core… yet more… is only just the Peace and Happiness and Love which we all adore. This hostel is a very calm relaxing place. It is superbly decorated and all the facilities are in great condition. I highly recommend Shantee House. This large yurt, my home for one night, is such an inspiration to me and shows me again that building shape and materials all matter very much, reveals to me how beautiful the circle is, how wonderful natural materials are. To see the sun imprinted in your home and the cycle of the earth around its core, its footprint on the land, is so refreshing, so inspiring, so energising for the beautiful bodies we all inhabit. Inspires me to gather around me similar vibrations which I would like soon to call my home Thank you everyone at Shantee House.

The perfect place to stay in Budapest. You'll definitely meet people there, and the staff is very nice and helpful. The hostel is in a residential area, away from the buzzing city centre but close to it at the same time thanks to the tramway line 49, two minutes walk from the hostel and operating all night. Cherry on the cake : you can sleep soundly, a dog and a cat are guarding the place from the bad spirits.

The people at Shatee House are what makes it great, everyone is so easy going you can make friends with anyone. The facilities are good the toilets are clean. What more could a man ask for.

Shantee house is an impressive hostel, boasting a calm vibe and excellent customer service. The people there are very friendly and the rooms are clean, and the bathrooms are nice. They have a printing service at the reception and the staff are knowledgeable about the area and how to get around. All of them speak English well. Overall a more than satisfactory experience.

Shantee house, its staff (shout-out to Matt and Lauran ;)! ) and guests gave me the best experience abroad I've ever had. I cannot recommend this place highly enough! I will 100% be back!

We just stayed there for a night, but we thought it was nice. We slept in a tent that was pretty new. It was fine, but a little bit warm in the morning. The staff was kind. The location was far from the center of the city.

Nice place with a homely feeling to it. Dosent have to be that the decoration is like home for you but you get the feeling you are welcomed and accepted as you are. Everyone is laid back and friendly. Best hostel so far for me.

Got bitten real bad by BED BUGS in the space of just one night. This hostel has totally sunk to basement level probably why it is called shantee town, it is surviving on previous reputation for the former hostel that no longer exists. The renovation is terrible they have destroyed the hostel and now the TV room where people used to meet and hangout is visible from the street and has the receptionist sitting right outside with a window and huge open door so they can hear anything you are saying. Not nice for them and not nice for the clients. Really this was all that was good about this place that it had good place to chill out but now that is gone there is no reason to put up with such bad sleeping arrangments. Shows the attitude of the owner or his girlfriend (ex? ). They do not like people socializing there and have made it not comfortable anymore. Then they spent all this money on adding new floors and decorating the place (all very nice but first comes sleeping). It is foolish and an insult to the guests (used to be guests but they scapped that from the name it is no longer a guesthouse now just a house) to spend money on decoration to make it look good on the outside for magazine review or whatever but they have gone and put the most budget mattress that has metal bits sticking into you and makes it hard to sleep.

Small and super cosy hostel. Nice garden and athmosphere. Staff really nice. I really recommend it.

First experience of a Hostel and I LOVED it! The staff are all so friendly and welcoming and the place is beautiful. Would love to return one day!

Very friendly staff, rooms were comfortable. Showers were alright, could do with a bit warmer water. Pricing was excellent. And it was very easy to get in and out of the city center via a nearby bus or alternately the nearby tram both take you to one of the main subway stops. Definitely worth staying at again.

It is the best hostel that you could dream of. With a couple of friends we visited our mutual friend Sofia who was staying in the hostel for three months.
The atmosphere is absolutely fascinating and friendly with a big influence from all the travels of the hostel owner.
The ambience is also very spiritually and meditating orientated and there is a very comfortable communal kitchen and living room.
The rooms are a great size and although you may share with up to five other people, the comfort is a must. The hostel also have pets which are adorable and loved by everyone.
I would definitely recommend it to everyone who wants to see a different part of the hostel experience, loves travelling and meeting adventurous people.

I've been staying at Shantee house (or its former name Backpack Guesthouse) for 24 years and would never stay anywhere else. With the reconstruction in 2011, it takes the idea of a Youth Hostel to a higher level. Peaceful and tranquil, aimed at a higher level of traveller than 18 year olds who stay one night and move on. Still a place to make friends and explore the city. The owner and the staff really care about their guests and want to make it paradise.
