Cheap, clean, sociable and in a pretty good location. The kitchen is good and you get free drinking water.

The owner isnt the nicest guy… I heard him talking to his stuff in not a very nice way… I thought it might have been because of his limited Spanish (he is American and hasnt mastered the local language yet). But… then at some point he spoke to me about something in English (his native language) and it not seem nice at all… fortunately, he is not around a lot and allows the volunteers to take care of the guests. Which is I think better for everyone… at the time I was there, there was a Canadian older woman volunteering and she was doing a marvelous job. Was caring, welcoming and fixing things for everyone. As for the premises, they are centrally located, which was brilliant. But next to a market, which at night was full of dogs and trash, which wasnt that nice, but its not the hostela fault. Great hammock area, equiped kitchen and not bunk clean beds.

There isn’t much choice in Xela to chose from so we went with Casa Seibel for 2 nights before the trek (Tajumulco) and a night after. The owners doesn’t seem to care much, place is run by volunteers. We got back from the hike to find out the room is more expensive but there were plenty of space anyways. We got given towels the first time and when asked for it the second time, they said there isn’t any dry as it’s been raining. Fair enough but what does that mean the sheets don’t get changed either because it’s been raining and they don’t have a drier? We asked about the shuttle to Lake Atitlan and the lady at reception (who I believe is the owner) said no they don’t organise one when it clearly says there is one on their board on top of the reception desk! Plus don’t even think about cooking as their gas stove is as slow as paint drying and the fridge stank of rotten food. There is barely hot water unless you have it dripping. One sink in the entire hostel! Not value for money.

Very good price, good location, good place and kitchen to avoid food expenses that are sometimes unnecessary. The attention is good too.

Great hostel. Nice rooms and beds. Hammocks and garden to hang out, good Wi-Fi, laundry service, free potable water, discounted breakfast and good vibes!

Great host (Brian), good rooms, nicest full bathroom I've seen in any hostel in Guatemala, great social space for introverts and access to Casa Kiwi for your extroverted needs. Would recommend either hostel.

Homey place to stay with super affordable weekly rates. Brian, the owner, is a great dude who makes sure you have everything you need to be happy and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need and with joint access to kasa kiwi you can also enjoy the rooftop patio / bar. Would highly recommend either.

I just wanted to say that I stayed there on friday and I totally recommend staying in casa seibel we felt very welcomed and the place was very beautiful, we are soo coming back!

Peaceful and affordable. The single (not bunk) beds are great. The Wi-Fi is good. Many hikers stop into this little posada so you can swap trekking tips and stories with other likeminded people. The local fresh produce and meat market are right around the corner as are the collectivos. Brian is very informative and enthusiastic and his staff are also great.

Casa seibel had a really nice vibe and a beautifull colonial setting. It also lays very close to the central park, which makes it a very good spot for discovering the city. Brian the owner is a wonderful and very friendly guy who wants only the best for his guests. Also the volunteers we had were super friendly and helpful! We had a Christmas Eve dinner there, which we will never forget. Also the rooftop bar of casa kiwi, which can be used between 4pm and 9pm was a nice addition with nice firework spotting on Christmas Eve. Wonderful owner there (Mark) also!

Place is clean and well maintained. Hot showers are iffy and there is a restaurant across the street where you have to buy breakfast. Staff is very helpful and courteous. Overall, a good place to stay and reasonably priced.

Beautiful hostel, close to Central Park, big comfy beds, rooms are perfect to rest and have a great night of sleep. Staff is full of advice on where to go and what to do, everyone is really friendly!

The place to stay in Xela! Nice cosy vibe in the hostel. Amazing staff who will help you with any single question you have and the place is cleaned every single day! Booked a tour from the hostel and had the best experience ever to see a live volcano eruption! Highly recommended when in Xela.

Lovely place with a good kitchen and spacious outside areas and nice simply rooms. Private room had lots of space and is clean. No bunks in dorms, just single beds. Friendly staff and free local map with a top 10 to do list.

Relaxed and comfortable hostel in the heart of Xela. The kitchen and common area are inviting and definitely good places for hanging out and meeting other travellers. Beds are very comfy and the dorm is spacious and has no bunk beds (yay! ) It's easy to feel at home in casa seibel.

Casa Seibel was a lovely hostel with a great host in an awesome town! Our group loved this spot. Valeria had great local recommendations and the hostel is situated in walking distance from a lot of great spots in Quetzaltenango. Valeria is fantastic! She not only runs the hostel, but edits an awesome humanitarian magazine (available there to read) and is very engaged in the area. She found out about the work we were doing and made connections for us that will impact our work tremendously. We are so grateful that we found this place and would definitely go back!
