Reviews of Hotel Pennsylvania 2*

It's NYC enough said… ambiance is exceptional.
It was great experience they provide free and good amount of breakfast choice and hotel is neat and clean very good manner staffs the room service lady was very good she made my bed all the time and change the towels and clean the washroom I am so glad that I really have a good time and experience…
Excellent service and extraordinary food is very very good and I recommend it in category 5 ***** stars and more
thank you very much.
Me agrado el ambiente, los cuartos grandes y muy cómodos 🥰 I like the atmosphere, the large and very comfortable rooms 🥰
It is a thief hotel, because when I checked in on the internet I paid for the entire stay and on the day of entry to the hotel I was told that my bank card had not been paid and that it was played by the Pennsylvania hotel administration to withdraw the money and pay the stay in duplicate. And since I was far from New York, I was not reimbursed because they are thieves … The conclusion is that it is a thief hotel if we can not stay there.
No cleaning. They charge me $100 to be refund to my check account that was in December 31, still waiting for.
Love this place! Second time there! Newly remodeled room!
For the first time in NYC. It was a dream.
The hotel is in the middle of all the important hotspots. Very central.
the rooms are comfortable and practicable. No more and no less.
the staff is friendly. A good hotel, to stay a few days in NYC.
Best Hotel ever! Stayd here 3 times… last time me and my 4 Friends had a fantasic suite 140squaremeters! this Hotel is under renovating so YOU People who talk bad about this hotel … youre not Worth to stay here. Ewer. I stayed here 2 time before renovation and that was also totally ok! Clean beds clean toilttes. I put my money in shopping instead! I love Pennsylvania Hotel… Will be back as soon as possible! ❤❤❤❤
It was nasty we when here 2018 and the beds were super old bathrooms are nasty and Bugs in the room… I would never come back after having this experience. So bad that my parents don’t want to travel to NYC because of it. Just pay extra for a way better hotel to be honest!
I do not recommend this hotel to anyone, do not spend your money on this hotel trash!
Completely stupid employees and without patience!
they charge 5 dollars to leave your bag before check in!
The bathroom flooded while I showered, the shower is smaller than me!
the towels are of very poor quality and were dirty! clogged toilet bowl!
this hotel is definitely rubbish, I WILL NEVER BE BACK!
This is our 3rd time here, all 3 have been real good experiences. The new rooms are great! All employees that we interacted with for different reasons have been nothing but helpful, cordial, polite and very nice! Thank you all.
Thought the location being across the street from MSG was a good sign. My husband read some reviews and tried to talk me out of it, but I insisted it wouldn't be so bad. It was bad.
The staff so far has been very nice and courteous. But the room was dirty. The only thing they did was change the sheets on the bed. The tub had slippery oil-like scum around the bottom, the kind you get when you put baby oil in your bath water and then don't rinse the tub.
The nightstand had drink marks from glasses or bottles. The glass shelve in the bathroom was loose and half hanging so nothing would stay on it. The towels feel like sand paper. The tile floor in the bathroom was not swept or mopped. It was just dirty and disgusting. So dissapointed, especially after paying $300 a ticket for a concert at the MSG. Not here again. Nope.
Hotel location is great. Rooms are clean. Behavior of staff is nice.
Very comfortable room. Nice view. Quick check in.
I enjoy all, excellent customer service. Jean Calvin Front office manager was so profesional, nice and did a great Job. I recomend it.
Cons:
Not enough front desk staff. Always an extremely long line.
They nickel and dime you on things like checking bags in to hold (it’s $5 per bag, and you have to buy them at the front desk) and receiving packages. Bag room attendants leave before posted closing time. Front desk staff is rude. Elevator attendant is rude.
Rooms are tiny (but that is to be expected in old NYC hotels) … my room had minimal amenities. The shelf over the sink in the bathroom was broken so there was nowhere to put my bathroom kit. There was no shower curtain when I checked in.
There are no “Do Not Disturb” signs. Hot water takes too long to turn hot. Water pressure sucks in the shower.
“Blackout curtains” advertised were regular curtains that maybe only blocked 25% of the light from outside. Air conditioner blew warm air. Couldn’t crack the window open.
Pros: No bed bugs.
Great staff, great location! Special Thankyou to David at reception for great customer service!
The staff were lovely and friendly, they managed to help us with an issue we had with rooms. The location is perfect.
This place is an absolute fleapit. A ridiculously long queue to check in, then to deal with staff who were rude and unhelpful, one roared across people at myself and my husband while actually dealing with another customer. Our two rooms which we had requested be interconnecting as we had two teenage girls with us were on different corridors. And rather the requested twin they were in a double. There doesn't seem to be a concierge. The dirty, grubbiness and pure filth in this hotel can not be over exaggerated. In both the public areas and the rooms. One floor had a couch in the lift area that is stuck together with duck tape! I have never stayed in a worse hotel. While I could give some grace to the "original" 99 year old doors still being on the rooms, it looked like the original carpet was there too, filthy, frayed and bubbled, in both the public areas and rooms. The curtains and blackout blinds were manky and greyed. The heater/air con unit looked like it might catch fire had it been switched on. The bathrooms weren't cleaned and there was some sort of mildew growing on the tiles. Add to this the fact we shared our room with mice, an infestation that we discovered was hotel wide when complaining. Avoid!
I knew this place was not gonna be super fancy but boy you come in and the rooms are nothing like the pictures they post. They only have a couple of rooms like that but in general its very old and smells wet. Moldy shower curtains and cracked walls. Some reviewers mentioned dungeon and to be honest on some levels it does look like an old asylum or dungeon. The only good thing about this place is the location and I can tell u that Maria B. (one of the receptionist) is the most helpful person in this place and she helped us a lot to make us feel more comfortable. Staying here this time? I had to. Next time? I don't think so.
This is an old hotel but at an amazing location! All of the staff that I spoke to were sweet and helpful. I was able to pay cash for my stay other than my security deposit, which was $100 for one night. The rooms are old but they have recently been updated a little from the last time I stayed there. They no longer have the old, ugly comforters that some hotels still have and were replaced with clean white sheets. The room was large and decently priced because of the location we had. You could tell they had just vacuumed, which was nice! We ended up self-parking in a garage nearby but valet was available as well (Icon Parking). If you self-park, make sure to get your ticket stamped at the front desk for the discount to park there. The parking garage has people park your car for you and then they bring it up to you when you turn in your ticket and pay (which is really nice). For long-term stays, I would recommend staying elsewhere but if you're just needing a place to sleep, I definitely recommend it!
I absolutely hated this hotel DO NOT STAY HERE! They said they had a pool but they didn’t, there was mold in the room, they renovated the lobby but not the rooms! The hallways are barely lit and you have to wait 30 minuets just to get a elevator! The staff is very rude as well. And to top it all off, there was a rat in the hotel! It came into our room! Sanitation issues! There was also a spider on the ceiling! The house keeping never comes unless you “do as instructed”… they never told us anything! My family was in New York for the first time so I don’t know if other hotels are like this but this was horrendous DO NOT STAY HERE!
It's a great location. The best combination of price and quality.
I don’t know why the other reviews were so negative. This hotel was great. Our room was nice and clean, the location is great and I love the lobby area. The staff were kind and accommodating and even moved us to a better room when we needed an extra bed for another guest. They didn’t charge us for the room upgrade and the room had a great view. I’d come here again.
The worst hotel i've visited. Wait in line for everything, even for complaint. They never answer. You have to call room service every day because they clean the room without leaving new towels.! hour wait for the ridiculously small and bad coofee and pastry. 1 hour wait for check in and check out and wait also for keeping your luggages plus charge of 5$. Old and ugly hotel that had better days in the very early century. The personnall never answer clearly, ATTENTION TO TAXES,
I had to rate this a one star so I could post a review, but if I could rate it zero stars I would. My stay at this hotel was HORRIBLE. There was a mouse in our room and guess how we got compensated? With absolutely nothing. I was told I would be refunded $50 bucks and when I said I want more or I'll write a bad review, they decided to not give me anything back. The service is horrible, the rooms stink, the carpet is dirty and old, and the people who work there are incredibly rude. I suggest you pay a little more money if you want to be treated properly by a hotel. So disappointed. Waste of $600 for two nights. Stay away.
I’m almost starting to relish in the eternally disappointing quality of hotels in the US. Like a bad smell you can’t help sniffing, I keep coming back for more. Upon arrival at 10pm on a Sunday I waited a cool 50 minutes in line to check in and get the key to the first hotel room I’ve stayed in that makes you feel dirtier for being in it than you did on the street of midtown Manhattan in 29 degree heat. I picked this hotel because it was marginally cheaper than a fairly awful hotel I’ve stayed in before but it looked bigger than that shoebox experience. Is bigger always better? Absolutely not. Bigger has come with a peculiar metal door that wouldn’t look unusual as a Victorian butcher’s fridge door. Only two shades of puke green. Every wall in the hotel including the room has the level of scuff marks and wear & tear you’d expect from 20 years of student letting. The only lights in the room run at an industrial florescent temperature like the set of a Saw movie. Turning the lights out does nothing to ease the offence on the eyes thanks to the broken curtain dangling and allowing a powerful beam of floodlighting that points directly into the room to confuse your jet lagged brain. The bathroom! The dark, mildew grouting has achieved layers of age to impressive levels when still managing to charge $150 a night. There is a layer of grimy dust just above the shower head adding to the paranoia that I might emerge dirtier than I came in.
Do yourselves a favour and do NOT stay here unless you are truly desperate and otherwise would be homeless on the street. The place is invested with rats and other rodents — the staff will even tell you if you request a room change ‘there is no guarantee there will not be mice in the next room’ YES a manager said that to me? The options presented to me were either, leave and get a full refund (and go and pay around $400 for a ‘better hotel’ — manager Joseph’s words) or as there were no rooms they would notify us in an hour so we could change rooms once someone checked out?! Needless to say this was never followed up with any remedial action. Like I said… please do yourselves a favour and do not. I repeat not… stay here. If you guys want evidence of this rodent infestation — please see the attached photos… you have all been warned.
Terrible hotel! DO NOT RECOMMEND HERE TO STAY HERE FOR A LONG TIME! It all starts at the front desk. Almost 1 hour on what would be to check in on arrival and get the key to the room. Employees behind the counter see the queue, but they prefer to chat among themselves and constantly leave than meet the Guest! The rooms are terribly old and in some places it is time to change or repair everything. I thought TVs with a keanscope have long been replaced by liquid crystal, but in this hotel they still have, particularly in my room such. The room is very dark, even if you turn on all the light that is. The room was hot, the air conditioning (although it is difficult to call it air conditioning — it's just some old collapse) was not included in the guest's arrival. The furniture is very old, some doors are just scary to open, you think that it has now fallen off the hinges. Towels in other than that and pillows are not enough. Rooms on the floors for some reason are repeated, where the logic in the numbering is not clear, there is number 1 and 1a. Internet Wi-Fi is very weak and slow. One plus is the place where it is.
6 June 2018… The queue to check in was about a mile long. Elderly ladies working at reception. Lobby full of travelers waiting to check in or check out. Looks like union station. Our room was ok. No blankets. Breakfast is only a muffin, Coffee and orange juice that’s it. So don’t be fooled by this. But it’s a very convenient place to stay in New York. Pity for the poor service. I wouldn’t chance booking here again. What surprises me is that they are super busy every day. … rather pay more money elsewhere and get good service.
In a great place, right at the exit of the subway Penn Station, respectable view, spacious hall, exit to 33rd Street leads directly to the Empire State Building (seen on the right, just from the exit, no need to look), there is where to wait until the settlement, though simple — but breakfast (water-juice-coffee-tea to choose from and anything from baking). What did not like — frankly old technique in the room — rust on the air conditioner grille, old plumbing. The windows outside are dusty. The rest is all the rules, especially when you come back from a night walk in Manhattan.
That's disgusting. Giant check-in queues (minimum hour wait), very few staff, dirty, dark little room (windows don't wash for years) in which nothing is repaired. Dirty, unsmoothed bed linen. The hotel. Breakfast is just a joke (bread, coffee and miniature orange juice), for which you have to stand in line. The only good thing is the location. Very spoiled the experience of the city.
A bit dated but so well located that it is forgiven everything… Impressive Hall and 2700 rooms… The American way of being able to go to a nearby gym included.
This hotel only reaches the 2 stars thanks to its excellent location (in front of Madison Square Garden and close to the Empire State Building) and good price, which is roughly half the average of other hotels in the area. You will have to live with a perennial carpet on which there would be a lot to say, a dilapidated and old bathroom, and an old furniture (but at least the rooms are quite spacious). At the reception there is always a row, so arm yourself with patience and checkout the night before. Breakfast is packed (a pasta, water or juice, coffee or tea), and there are only very few tables to consume it.
Strategic location. Cleaning vote 1 but not because they do not clean but it is so old that it is all liso. Bath years 50. The doors of the room are of the original 1922… Breakfast outside the hotel with very rich ticket.
This is the most broken hotel I have ever seen, not one of them. If the 100 knives are not bad, please consider other hotels. Here the water is not hot, dirty, dirty sheets, light bulbs are not lit, heating is not good to use, old equipment.
The hotel is less worse than what some people describe. The bedding is good and the location is ideal. On the other hand it lacks staff compared to the attendance of this hotel. ATTENTION: I had paid all taxes included — when I left the hotel gave me an invoice on which it was mentioned that I owed $0 and when I returned to FRANCE I saw that they debited me $160! I have never given my consent for this payment and I have not had any invoices. It's just "robbery. " Be careful leaving the imprint of your blue card after you leave they use it as they want…
I've been "spoliée" and I must not be the only one unfortunately.
Two stars. This is for expats and South America. Dirty. But in the center.
Totally to avoid. Arrival at 10.30 pm, the only receptionist on the 9 reception posts we fell asleep for not giving us the key to the room we had prepaid for 4 nights… Impossible to know how more than 2H after we managed to miraculously get a key. But surprise when returning to France, 1 night at the hotel at 160 euros was debited to us. Go your way.
It was clean enough and can't fault it for location! The breakfast is included but there's a weird ticket system and you need to allow time to get it, don't be in a rush cos it won't happen! Allow loads of time for check in & purchase luggage storage tags when you check in if you need to store your bags between check out & actually leaving the hotel. The tickets are $5 a bag so budget for that. Staff all really nice tho and unless we win the lottery and could upgrade we'd go back. For a central New York hotel it was good value.
A period Hotel 1920… Unfortunately the rooms and bathrooms seem to date from the same year, without having been renovated ever since!
Well placed and cheap are the only arguments of the establishment, but for 70 dollars more you will be able to find much better elsewhere.
In addition to the end of stay after departure, they have debited fees on my Visa card for which they do not provide any proof, despite many requests for explanations or notes… TO AVOID!
Location and price great for being in the middle of Manhattan, on the intersection of Road Week and the thirty-third. Close to a lot of attractions but also to the metro and great places to eat or buy something. The deficiencies are the organization of the check in, because of file kilometers, and the breakfast that is nothing but a coffee and a brioches taken at the bar inside the hotel.
In itself, the hotel is not wonderful it is only for this I would have given 3 stars but the strategic location in the center of New York makes it palatable for vacations to pass in the metropolis.
New York, you know, is great, but this affordable hotel is close to so many known areas of the city.
I recommend it.
If the review seemed useful, please click on the hand, thank you.
Has classic charm. The price is great and the staff are very kind. The hotel IS DATED so don't expect shiny new. Some floors are updated, some are not. The hotel has been around for a long time, if you are looking for a vintage vibe at a good price I had a lot of fun staying here. The location is great.
Smaller than expected, but the bed was comfortable. Nice room very good price for the distance from my event venue. I was able to do everything I needed in the city. It was walking distance from Times Square. Most of the other hotels around this one were $80 more a night. I was very happy with my choice.
This hotel had to be a great hotel in its time… Today it is only by size. The problem is the lack of infrastructure maintenance. The rooms for 4 are so spacious with a large dressing that allows not to clutter the room with the suitcases. It remains one of the only hotels that is so affordable in the neighborhood.
I stayed at this hotel for a short weekend trip to NYC. The location is great, at least more than 2 train stations near my hotel. It's also walkable distance to Korean town and time square which many shops are around. The customer service is semi ok, the staffs seeming overwhelmed and start shouting each other in front of the customers. The luggage storage guy had a great customer service, no matter how tired he was but he smiled and greeted customer. Great customer service from luggage storage person. Thank you for always smiling!
Hotel of 1930 with 1200 rooms of which a good part remained at that time. Long files at check-in at every hour, on the other hand the checkout can be done the night before with the return of the Keys style drop box. Poor breakfast (coffee a brioche and a juice). The location is fantastic, opposite Madison Square Garden and 500 mt from the Empire State Building, 15 minutes ' walk from Times Square. Metro station in front. Great for those who just want to stay overnight and turn all day to NY.
I’ve stayed at this hotel twice for an accumulative amount of 7 days and loved every stay. This is an historic hotel directly across from the MSG. The rooms aren’t the ritziest you can find but full of history that you can feel, especially in the long hallways and elevators. It’s in the perfect location within walking distance of every single convenience you could ever need, plus the perfect NYC feel! The people I’ve encountered at this hotel and in manhattan in general have always been very helpful and always nice. Thanks for the enjoyable experience…
All very well!
Except for 2 receptionist very rude, I think they are in the mornings!
An elderly lady and glasses with little charisma!
And a gentleman I think the same age or more of lenses too and little hair!
Then the rest excellent in your deal!
The positive at first… Located in the heart of Manhattan, just across from Madison Square Garden and only 2 blocks away from the Empire State Building.
The room was quite small but clean. Noisy air conditioning which only had a bad fix. Friendly cleaning staff… don't forget to tap!
Funny… Ice machines in the hallway for chilled drinks.
The price of the rooms is quite cheap for New York, but you can't expect more than you can find here!
But New York is doing all the negatives again…
It's not a nice place if your priority is to have a nice place to rest. The hot water can be complicated in some room and not all have frigobar and safe. Maybe exaggerated to give him the third star.
— Always crowded entrance halls — stressed and more or less friendly staff at the front desk — rooms extremely refurbished — cleanliness of the rooms is OK — location is perfect… and the most friendly is the cleaning staff — after all, someone! :)
It's a bad turn. Thousand hours waiting at reception every day, bad predisposition of all the staff. Bad as few times.
Good hotel, the location is hard to beat however very old and partly renovation bedüftig.
The only reason to book a room here is its centralized location. Don't be fooled by the low price, however (see below). It's across the street from Madison Square Garden, a few blocks from the Empire State Building, and a 20 minute walk to Times Square. However, … I cannot emphasize this enough: THIS PLACE IS A DUMP. The management is fully aware of it's dilapidated state but doesn't care one bit. The entire place, from top to bottom, is in complete disrepair. Old leather seats are patched with duck tape. The walls need paint, the floors need grout, and the carpets should have been replaced decades ago. The mattresses are all worn out, the TVs don't work, and the doors and walls haven't been wiped down in years. Because of its price, size (1700 rooms), and location, the lobby is a madhouse. The owners of the lobby cafe are impatient and rude, who wouldn't be, I suppose, having to deal with 100s of tourists every day. Nevertheless, those jerks don't deserve your money. There are plenty of better options across the street or a block away in either direction. Note that a daily "facility fee" of $20 will added on to your room fees and taxes. This is just one of the several egregious ways they gouge customers. If they bothered to put any of that money toward basic maintenance and updating of the facility, it wouldn't be such an insult. I will never return to this hotel, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Hotel is quite ok, location is bombastic good for that. You have everything right outside the door.
Authentic building of 1919 built, with the appropriate interior. Within walking distance of downtown Manhattan. The staff is polite and positive, the cleaning is timely, linens and towels are clean, however the condition of the furniture leaves much to be desired. Some of the rooms, which are not on the reconstruction, are equipped with buzzing huge heating heaters (when switched on). And the main conclusion: the ratio of location and cost. For such money with such a location, you will not find anything more profitable and better.
The worst thing about the hotel is that it is old and sloppy. At night a rat went into the room while we slept and it was very noisy that woke us up.
The hotel has a good location, you can also take the subway that is next to the hotel and travel quickly to the place you want to meet.
For breakfast you have to line up to remove it and it is to take away.
Lousy Hotel! The three employees of the hotel I had dealt with were very rude and unkind, it is only clear that they treat tourists very badly, they are very little patient and not very friendly. The hotel itself is very old and it is run down, in the photos you attached you can observe the dirt both in the showers and in the windows that you can't even see out of how dirty they are. The door frames are rotten and the smell of the place leaves a lot to be desired. They also charge a hidden hotel tax of $40 that is not included in the rate that is paid in advance and charged to the card when they ask for the deposit, totally unfair and unprofessional. I ended up paying $120 a room that was advertised by $65, smelly, dirty, careless and with a horrendous service. Not recommended!
It is preferable to spend $20/30 more and find another place of accommodation, because the hotel Pennsylvania is by far the worst hotel I have stayed in.
In view of the negative opinions, it was gone to be a bad experience. Fortunately there was more fear than evil. Although the hotel is old, the bedding is not extra, there is a bit of mold in the bathroom but it passes. It is poorly insonorié between the rooms and outside but difficult to camouflage the noise of 7th Avenue which is very noisy.
Where it gets stuck is the facilities fees. They charge services like the phone even if we don't use them which is a common practice in New York. We still had for $65 more for 2 nights…
It was a very nice hotel. A few steps from the stop of the MM. Affordable price. The location is the strong point.
This place is a DUMP!. The people that work there are rude and rotten. The receptionists are extremely rude to talk. They charge you more then the promised price and give you run around for everything. The room had no towels in it and had no knob to turn the heating on/off. I had to call daily to get towels in my room and cleaning people did not leave any towels or even toilet paper in the room after cleaning. The TV worked for few hours and then it stopped working. I called and someone came after several hours to try to fix it. They could not figure out how to fix the issue and kept coming in and out of my room using there own card key and did not even knock at my door for access. The TV never worked during my stay of 4 nights. Upon check out I had to leave my suitcase at the hotel as my flight was in the evening. I also had a picture rolled up. The receptionist charges me $10 to leave my bag and a picture tube for couple hours. She charges me $5 for the bag and $5 for the 1 inch by 20 inch picture. She wanted me to pay her in cash for that as she denied to add it to my checkout charges to the credit card. The so called "free breakfast" is a joke. The people who work in the cafeteria or coffee shop are very rude. They use bare hands to handle your food. They give you one cup of tea/coffee, one bread and one juice or water.
I guess if you just need to lay your head down and you don't have much money. Although they do charge a lot independently of the Middleman sites. I don't know why they're charging so much though I actually was looking forward to checking out once I checked in. If you don't mind about your staying conditions then you can book if you do then I would say think twice very very old Hotel bathroom reflects the oldness and needs revamping so does the room the corridors etc. If you can ask for the renovated rooms which apparently is in a different section of the hotel try and spend extra money. Oh yeah and be very careful thief's operate in the hotel. In the reception bit they walk around pretending but they're actually observe in to see who is not vigilant with the purse and luggage.
Book this hotel for what it is. It's a piece of history that is cheap and in one of the best locatinos in the city. If you want to see some of the coolest elements, stop by Floor 12 and you can see where they preserved some of the hotel's rich history. I am a history geek so, I loved that stuff. If you want a convenient place to sleep at a low rate, book Hotel Penn. If you want modern amenities, open up the wallet and go somewhere else.
Poor, very poor! We made a booking via booking. Com and when we arrived the receptionist said, they have no booking. Then she said it was cancelled from their side, the cc was not covered — what was not true! We tried it again from straigt there in the lobby — and she again told us, the reservation is refused. As this receptionist didnot give us the room, we booked another hotel nearby. When we returned back home, the Hotel charged our credit card and doesnot answer any request to return the money, as THEY refused to give us a room! Moreover the charged much more than the rate at booking. Com was! Published rate was $ 105 — they charged us $171!
It's enough to sleep. Bring a lot of time to check in. Centrally located opposite Madison Square Garden.
Rooms should have been renovated 10 years ago. Probably very popular with school class or similar. But there are also rooms where you can smoke.
My husband and I stayed recently for two nights. We were return customers. We love the location of the hotel and have no objection to the little slice of "Old New York" experienced at Penn. Our room was small but clean, amenities were adequate. Check — in was quick and easy for us and the staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. If you want modern luxury book elsewhere; if you enjoy the flavor of an older, authentic property visit Hotel Penn!
The positive at first… Located in the heart of Manhattan, just across the street from Madison Square Gardens and only 2 blocks from the Empire State Building.
Very good location. They only give breakfast for two per room even if they are 3 4 (booking says hotel with breakfast and that is not so if they are more than two). The claims and customer service part is a disaster. The rest is fine.
Never again. Absolute rip-off, lousy customer service and then even the wrong credit card charge. The hotel probably does not respond to emails basically. You simply do not respond to inquiries, at some point the guest is already calm. Totally outdated building, and unfortunately very dingy.
My husband and I chose this hotel because of the location, we attended the Westminster Dog Show located directly across the street. For that reason ALONE the Pennsylvania is worth a try. Check in was fairly easy and the lobby is large and quaint BUT when we got to our room, reality hit as to why it is so affordable. Stark white walls and no linens on the bed, the tiny bathroom had a piece of cardboard tapped to the window and half used bottles of toiletries on the sink, no hair dryer either (extra charge). We immediately asked for an upgrade at $25 extra a night. The new room was smaller and not much better, only updated area was the lobby when we got off the elevator. Again no comforter on bed and refrigerator was on the floor next to it, heater control didn’t work so either your cold or burning up. I know this is an older motel but if this was the upgrade than they are misleading their guests. In the 5 days we were there the hallways and elevators had the same trash from day before. If your looking for convenience to most everything in NY city than this may be an option but after a long day of shopping and walking it’s not relaxing coming back to a nasty hotel.
Hotel very well located next to the Madison Square Garden, metro station at 20m, a bit dated but attractive rates and rooms large and clean, prefer a room away from the 12 lifts as more quiet.
It's an old hotel, but it doesn't lose its advantages. Very central, spacious and old rooms but well maintained, Metro Bus and taxi stop at the door and with a fairly affordable price. Everything was correct, that's why I recommend it.
Ok. It is not absolutely clean but not dirty. What you can expect for 80, — € a day for the room. We stayed in 1013 and it was OK. The location is just perfect as it doesn't. Therefore a recommendation from me.
Lousy Hotel! The three people in the hotel with whom I had dealt were very rude and unkind, not worth going into details, it is only clear that they treat tourists very badly, they are little patient and very rude. The hotel itself is very old and this very sloppy, in the photos you attached you can observe the dirt both in the showers and in the windows; You can't even see out how dirty they are. The door frames are rotten and the smell of the place is not the best. Not recommended.
It is preferable to spend $10/20 more and find another place of accommodation, because the hotel Pennsylvania is by far the worst hotel I have stayed in.
Hotel near Times Square. Ten minutes on foot. Old and clean hotel overall. Our room was a bit viollotte but simple for a standard room. But value for money is very good. Especially if it's just to sleep. Room cleaned every day. I recommend for the value for money.
Positive experience on everything. You have to start with the price, of course. We are in the center of Manhattan, behind the Empire and a 5 minute walk from Times Square, the rooms are large, high ceiling, well heated (February to — 6 °c) and with the old but functional bathroom. The cozy lobby with security staff everywhere and very kind receptionist. The breakfast, frugal but pleasant unfortunately is consumed perched everywhere and standing for the lack of a room with tables. In conclusion There is what you pay, and if you look for the finishes like the walls and the sanitary ware without halos, the baseboards that are attached to the walls, the heads of beds that do not move by themselves, the Windows Bright window, well, NYC is full of hotels for you. Not as much of comfortable and honest hotels like this.
Hotel looks outside and central hall very well but once in the floors the horror starts old hotel, dirty hallway, smells noséabondes! Let's not talk about the room. Dirty It also that is the carpet, the sheets or the taps, noisy hotel (I was woken at 7am by the vacuum cleaner in the hallway! ). Certainly the hotel has a great location in the city but at what price… I will never go back to this hotel and I advice to anyone even my worst enemy!
Absolute dump. Prefer to pay more and take another hotel. Horrible room. Much worse than on advertising images.
A great place for those who have come to see the sights, wander the streets of New York and go shopping. Who comes to the hotel only to spend the night. The most important plus is the convenient location!
The Hotel is old and decadent, but I love it. The location is unbeatable. The attention on the counter is not good. The deal, the ways… For those who have difficulty with English, patience is not your forte. The Wi-Fi is not included and is expensive. But the location and its capacity (which ensures to always get a room) makes it an important attraction.
Very good location in New York City. 1700 rooms rather simple without fuss but clean and functional. No luxury. The main thing. It is industrial hotel but it works well… for the price do not hesitate.
If you go on a weekend when many people are in the city in hotels, you'll pay more. If you go when occupancy is less, you'll pay less. It's an older hotel. For what it is, it is very nice. You will see a sort of cabinet, in the doors, which formerly allowed one to put coats/clothing in, so they would be washed. Hey, if you want to spend $2k/night on a hotel, go do that. That's not what this place is for. I enjoy visiting it, their staff are nice, and for what it is — a 1919 hotel still in operation — it is 5 stars, or has been for my family.
Firstly, if anyone looking into staying at this hotel expects to have a five star room for the price they've given, you are already kidding yourself. You get what you pay for. On a second note, I LOVED THIS HOTEL AND MY ROOM! From the second we went to check in, Ann at the front desk made us feel welcome and truly appreciated to be at this hotel. She made our experience begin wonderfully and it just kept getting better from there. The room was very comfortable (and I think quite adorable) and we got an incredible view of the Empire State Building. I loved this hotel and I WILL be staying here again on my trips to the city. For the price, the atmosphere, and most importantly Ann who made our stay beyond anything we expected. Thank you Ann!
Hotel location: 5 stars. It is centrally located, served by Metro and close to many attractions. The front has the Madison Square Sports arena for basketball fans and more.
Staff: 3 stars. Enough but a little cold, should help more the customer.
Rooms and services: 3 stars. Sufficient, offer the indispensable. Tv, shower, hairdryer, iron.
Cleaning: 1 star. The staff his does but the carpet is old and I in the room I saw a little mouse. I got a change of room. My son the day before he saw him in the hallway but I thought he was wrong.
The Wi fi however for me must be free.
Still rated 2 and a half stars.
This place was a nightmare! The door handles were falling apart, beds sloppily made, nasty dirty carpets. Not only was the shower/bathroom disgusting and dirty with mold and mildew but the heating and air conditioning unit was also. My family and I had three rooms, all was the same with the exception of one room having bedbugs and one room not having any hot water. I always take my bed apart at any hotel and I spray with Lysol and wipe everything down. We were only there for one night, Thank God, but that was way too long. I had to call the front desk three times before I could get a manager on the phone, but that was a waist of time. Needless to say I will never stay there again. I had to get a bottle of water to brush my teeth afraid to use the water and showering was not an option, bird bath until we got home. Never ever again!
Excellent location but the hotel… The halls and the crappy rooms, horror movie. The deshelled bathtub, bugs on the ceiling, heating device up to dust, humidity in every corner, the window pane so worn that you barely see, the water in the bathroom does not come out entirely clear… You have to take it as it is only going to be to sleep because also the speed of the Wi-Fi in the rooms is unfortunate. Yes, the reception very spacious and with sofas. It's a hotel that must have had its good years but now needs urgent renovations. The shame is that there is nothing better located and more conditioned.
Friendly staff, people are very accommodating. We stayed here for 8 nights. The first day we arrived, all king size bedrooms were booked so they allow us to another room for a night and got our permanent room the second night. Fast key checkout! Pros: right in front of madison square garden! middle of downtown.
That's right. Good price. Spectacular location… Well maintained old rooms. The only ugly q is the aesthetic is common… white… old… but it has the good of the old Q is generous space. All right. I recommend it.
A real rubbish the rooms. Everything is pure strikethrough and makeup. Lots of reception and rubbish inside. Here would be ☆ ☆
Terrible hotel. I was bitten from head to on by fleas or bedbugs. The whole body is itching. The manager said not his problem and couldn't get the money back as we were already sleeping in the hotel. Don't get here.
Horrible stay! We had cockroaches in the room and did not want to move rooms because they did not have availability, we finally got into another smaller one and with a bathroom it was scary to shower, and when we walked in to look at the new room we didn't have towels and under the Bed had half-open juice bottles. To know how long they had been there. (That's the cleanliness they made of the rooms. ) We were told that it would only be for one night and that the next day we would change to a bigger and better condition. Finally they did not fulfill their word they said that there was no availability and that they could not do anything. In conclusion a disgusting hotel!
I was in room 833. The hotel is very well situated but the rooms are not very cared for. The service of the hotel is very good. Overall it's OK to spend a few days.
Get a big fright at the first moment because it's very old and a lot of things are broken. But: after 30 minutes of settling in, it was really great for the city trip! Very central location in Midtown and everything clean — old and run down, ver clean.
Excellent location. Got a beautiful view. It's an old historical hotel so the room decor and layout is charming. My double room was super HUGE! It was clean and smelled good. Don't expect a modern feel if that is what you are looking for.
The hotel facilities are older, the reception staff attitude is good, feel like they are familiar with you or do not take you as an outsider, while the formalities for you to pass by the people say hello, and then will tell you what the man is doing. The rooms are very clean. Cleaning of the service staff is very strong, I went back to the room, is catching up to do health, a go in was questioned and to blow out, checked my room card to let in, and was asked: why back?
I stayed here from 22 to 27 November is a hotel dated completely to renovate! Room and bathroom decadent, old carpet and above all passed cold air from the window… so… I was forced to sleep with a conditioning system on even the old one that emitted an incredible noise! The very cheap price at the time of booking does not offer basic services such as LA. Breakfast and luggage storage Service is payable! Outrageous that they charge the baggage storage service well $5 to baggage regardless of the time you leave your baggage! I paid 10 bucks for a suitcase and a bag to take advantage of two hours of the morning before going to the airport despite having checked out in advance and had. So let my room free in advance. Only advantage is the great central location on the. 34th near the. Madison Square Garden and just a short walk to Times Square… I knew it was obsolete hotel but I didn't think they would recharge on certain services! Who does not have baggage to leave in New York, especially if it comes to shop in the days of Black Friday? Evaluate well!
Friendly and helpful receptionist ever, so lovely and great first impression of hotel. Couldn't have been more sweet, giving me directions to a function I was attending along with a helpful map, ensuring parking in car park and facilitating an early check in. If nothing else had gone right with hotel this lady ensured I would have left with a good impression. Fortunately everything about the hotel was exceptional, and I don't give praise lightly. It was clean, stylish, roomy with excellent service in both bar where we had lunch and restaurant where we had dinner. Food was beyond good and great value for money and service in both places attentive and efficient. Room itself was well equipped and comfortable. I could go on but suffice it to say I was very pleased with my stay, and although short and sweet this time, I hope to be back for a longer visit in the future.
That was the worst experience of our holiday. We had arrived from Sanfranzisco and had been looking forward to a nice and clean hotel room. We arrived in front of the hotel by shuttle bus to the lobby and we waited over an hour before we were at the front desk. Now we went to the room. From the outside, the doors looked very much in the years. In the room itself it did not look any better. Dirty old, broken furniture and a nasty bath. On the floor, carpet were still old hairpins and other to find. In the fridge mold and hair. We can only strongly advise against this hotel.
The breakfast was the purest food battle and a battle for the few dirty tables.
Good location the locality… instead of just doing it and that is the only positive negative: the "renovated" rooms, as advertised on the homepage, were not renovated… only new curtains were hanged and a new bed Put it in.
Otherwise you can't talk about a renovation… the amatur on the shower is rusty and it still glued the other guests ' hair on the wall… and when showering, you had to be careful not to be scalded because the termostat was out.
Definitely not worth its money despite location…
Old but clean hotel. Deserves a good renovation.
A real shame. A hotel that in the years ' 80 had to be very nice, but unfortunately at the level of maintenance remained at that time. Old, run down and consumed rooms, dirty and encrusted glass, unwatchable bathroom. The only good thing is the location, in the middle of Manhattan. But objectively I don't think I would go back. Flunked.
Ps. Neither breakfast nor Wi-Fi is included, which costs 20 bucks every 12 hours… absurd.
Ideally placed for NY attractions and directly across from Penn Station, so convenient to find after long journey from England. Room was a bit shabby, crack in sink but clean, and the shower was great. Reception staff appeared not to be very affable. The staff at the safe deposit area were very helpful and friendly. As were the shop/cafe staff. All in all a good experience and would probebly stay there again on future visits. Would recommend to friends as a central base.
A value for money defiantly competing in the south of Manhattan in front of Madison Square Garden. An old hotel, in its juice, but very clean and well maintained. A little noisy sometimes.
The hotel itself makes a halfway good impression. The connection to the public transport is very good. For the price you should not expect too much, rooms are partly not in a too good condition. Bed and bath towels are in clean condition.
In my opinion the hotel is OK for its location, but it's too old and the doors its ugly, tasks and close not too good, the beds are not comfortable, too soft, the cleaning of the rooms is OK, they put not much soap, the curtains Spend a lot of light, service is cordial and friendly.
Definitely the worst hotel you could stay in. I've stayed in this hotel a few times when going to NYC, due to it's good location (close to Times Square) and better prices than other hotels in the area (even though you are paying a fortune for what the hotel has to offer). However, the last time we stayed in this hotel we saw a mice/rat in our room! I couldn't believe it… the mice was in the closet and it ran down under the door that separated our room from the other room. That's when I decided it would be the last time that I would stay there. To top it all off, one of my friends came back home and found marks of bed bug bites in his body. After seeing the mice inside the room we immediately called the reception desk and they offered us a smoking room (because everything else was booked) … I obviously said no, and they eventually transferred us to a better room. On the day after as we went to talk to the manager, the only thing he was able to offer was 50% discount on the 1 night that we saw the mice (given that we've already been there for another night before that event) … as if the mice was paying for the other half of the cost of the room. So yes, the hotel is at a good location and the price is a bit better than others, but my life is definitely not worth the trade-off.
Attention This hotel is a real scam. My daughter arrived this day at 2 a. M. As it had been programmed (room theoretically available the day after 10am). Not only was the room unavailable, but the manager said "it's like that and if you're not happy"
It's shameful, and of course my daughter has not been reimbursed.
We believe that it is theft.
We stayed for 8 nights at the hotel Pennsylvania and for what little we experienced we had a great time. The small room is certainly not new but functional and with a great TV to reconcile sleep. The bathroom was cozy and everything worked great. The location is from 10, in fact it is about 500 meters from Times Square, in front of Madison Square Garden, less than 5 minutes walk from the Empire State Building and many other attractions, the Metro to one minute walk. In general great experience for a hotel in the heart of Midtown New York. I recommend it and I will definitely go.
Most friendly and helpful receptionist ever, so lovely and great first impression of hotel. Bad is saying little. We've been here for 1 night, and we gotta do 2 more, fear… The shower does not work almost at all, the knobs of hot and cold water even if the laps do a little what they want, generally the bathroom is very old and some parts are rusty, the splash of the shower is broken and it drops the water in a strange way. I was going to use a towel after being able to take a shower at times icy, hot at times, but I realized that there was on the towel the "memory" of another guest of the hotel. I honestly stayed there, since it looks like a nice hotel. From outside. The walls, the carpet and the furniture ooze old. Outlets that struggle to keep the phones in charge. We're not here. And to think that I thought I had seen the worst in Thailand or Indonesia… Never again, especially for the price it costs!
Old but clean is not true! We first had a room on the 7th floor — there smells stuffy or moldy everywhere. The carpets, walls, etc. They're filthy. Overall, the furnishings have run down and partially damaged. It's probably been repaired for 30 years.
When we had cockroaches in the bathroom in the evening, it was enough.
We then got a room on the 15th floor — all the same, but the smell was better.
The staff were friendly, at the front desk there was almost 24 hours a queue (I had to wait 50 minutes at check-in at 23:00 pm).
Never again this hotel!
Very nice reception and very good staff however the rooms are very old and would well need a youthful look as the price does not justify the room!
It goes to good luck for the plan/room assigned. Great hotel Excellent location, Pennstation, Macy's and several shops and places to eat. City bike rack on one side of the building. Always a few people (files at check in though in my case short). Exit enough before 11:00 to check out to avoid queues in the Elevetor. Require of a general modernization. Room without safe and the burglaries in the room are not compensated, they offer safes in the lobby but each time for deposit or withdrawal you have to wait for an attendant. Free indoor gym and convection outside (Turkish bath sauna Pool) with small amount (? ). Comfortable bathroom. Room on the 2nd floor but not noisy. Luggage storage for a fee!
They were wrong to assign us room, the bed was not king and was situated in a plane with heavy air full of dust, luckily they moved us to another floor with the king. Every now and then we had to call back for towels.
The one star is simply because there is nothing less to give. This hotel has completely lost its splendor. There is nothing good to be said about this place except for the wonderful women who brought us towels, etc. The beds are just bare springs with a sheet on top. The toilet bowls are permanently stained and give out a sewage odor. The average wait for an elevator is 20 minutes. Stay elsewhere.
Despite the optimum potion the Pennsylvania Hotel leaves a lot to be desired.
Sin When you do access the rooms you are welcomed into a gloomy landing by the fetid smell due probably to the hygienic neglect of the carpet.
The rooms are very small despite the exorbitant price they do not offer extra services and in the bargain the furnishings are outdated.
The room could boast a shabby lighting system due to a desk lamp, uncomfortable beds and a plumbing (sink) Unable to drain the water in an opportune manner.
We combine everything to a Horror scenario and the take turns is insured.
New York is expensive but at that price I highly recommend readers to choose Other.
This is very centrally located. Bang Opposite Penn station and Madison square garden. The lobby is lively 24 by 7. Nothing else apart from that worthwhile. Has seen better days and there is steady renovations happening all the time. Staff retention is good. Christine at front desk is one that I remember has been around for long and it's a pleasure dealing with her always.
I requested an upgraded room and I feel like that was a good decision. No bed bugs and a spacious room. Bathroom was a bit dated but functional with lots of hot water and great water pressure! I enjoyed my 3 night stay and would return.
Another hotel that is affordable, but I feel this is properly the cheapest hotel stay. Price range from 98-116 for a regular room. Steps away from the shopping areas like macys, h&M, footlocker and etc. 8 blocks away from times square. The hotel have clean and comfortable rooms. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Overall great place and people on a budget this hotel is right for you.
Minus 4 stars!
The hotel is the horror!
First the positives: great location and the women at the front desk have ny charm!
1 minus — room: it was dirty, the walls crumble, bed and sheets have visible stains of predecessors, stinks carpet of messy, air conditioning, bathtub u shower peeling off pitcher (caution risk of injury! ), window clean dirty (can be seen by hardly) and the best… received a cockroach in the bathroom us on the 3rd day! In short: absolutely croissants!
2. Negative — service: so in some descriptions, free w-LAN is nop… $20 per day it should cost! That tap room cleaning in the morning at the door (although a do not disturb sign depends on) … the best was only on the last day, as we still in the room wanted to pick up our luggage… the room cleaning was just with us and held us to wait until they finished she was the door… when she had finished locked, so that our room card was blocked… in front of our room Help, no chance… they blöffte us to, and took off, so we had to back the full reception to the room to get! Service is something of rude, spiteful and bad!
3. Negative — security: the doors are very old and work not always… no safe in the room or other… our room had a connecting door to the next room, which was… schiebeschloss separated by a very simple and as our door was blocked we new room cards without to show only a passport or other…
4.
My boyfriend booked this place online last minute during a last minute invite to go to Belmont and then have a fun night in the city like we like to do every couple of months. I give it one star because I have to give it something to give a rating. I get the fact that it's an old hotel, in fact I appreciate places that preserve old NYC. The original valet doors was a cool feature BUT there's a point when comfortors need to be replaced and cable jacks installed. I have stayed at other old hotels that don't take advantage of the fact that they are old and let the place get simply run down. It is super convenient location to Penn Station and a nice, large lobby are the only things going for it. The hallways are dimly lit and smell musky and the room was HORRIBLE. Cables hanging out. Heavens only knows the last time the comforter was replaced… if ever. I had to keep telling myself, "surely they have at least washed the sheets, " just to try to convince myself to sleep. The photos speak for themselves. AND for the rates, it's not like you're getting a Red Roof Inn kind of price it's STILL expensive because THEY CAN CHARGE IT AND GET IT for the location. Do yourself a favor, spend the extra $20-60 upgrade. It's cool that they take dogs of any size, but they charge extra and I know other hotels nearby with competitive prices take dogs without the surcharge.
We had the worst experience here. The receptionist was not welcoming. The room was too small. The shower was broken. No room service. Long waiting line to check in. Untidy. Waste of money. Not recommended.
Hotel right in the Baden Zimmer and also so clean price it well only preserve the furniture old jahunderte.
Excellent location of the hotel. Madison Square Garden is located directly opposite. The rooms are relatively large for New York relationships. These were also clean. However, as mentioned several times, this is not a European standard. But for a city trip, we found this hotel enough.
Never again! What I my family with the booking of this run-down did to box I can never again well make. It was, as evaluated by other visitors, there is no European standard. This accommodation is judged too good with a star. Would be minus five. It was simply unacceptable! Take more in the hand for a hotel guest is a few dollars.
Dirt, broken door locks, no! Service.
If you're looking for a place to sleep at night while exploring the city in the day, then this is perfect! If you're looking for a 5 star room with brand new facilities, might not be the best fit. People need to keep in mind that this hotel was built in the early 1900s… of course the rooms and hallways and bathrooms will be a little dated, but it's not completely run down. The staff were very helpful and friendly. For the price and location of the hotel, I give it 4 stars. Everyone else that's high maintenance can stay somewhere else. I'm sure Sheraton or The Ritz-Carlton would be more up your alley.
You can't beat the location! It's right next to Penn Station and Madison Square Gardens and walking distance to Time Square. Our family doesn't spend a lot of time in hotels when we travel so it was perfect for us. It's really just a place to get some rest before heading back out. Yes, it's an old hotel, but it was clean. Housekeeping was excellent — they tidied up the room every day; clean towels. We walked everywhere! You can't beat this place for the price and location! We will go back! Staff was very very helpful in getting us the perfect room. its was a hotel in the middle of Manhattan for 100 bucks a night! What more do you want? You want nice and perfect you will pay for it… somewhere else.
I rented two rooms the weekend of Dec 20th 2015. In a nutshell, the hotel is easily the worst hotel I have ever stayed at in Manhattan and maybe the worst hotel I have ever stayed at… anywhere. The only reason this hotel attracts lodgers is it's location. If this hotel was 2 or 3 blocks east, it would be 20-30% occupied, tops. I could give you a laundry list of reasons for my feelings, but here are a few. Check-in took 1 hour and 45 minutes. Why? Because they had 2 people at the check-in counter, those employees were as unhappy as I've ever encountered at any hotel, and finally they appear to use antiquated technology to manage the check-in process. When they had a third person at the counter, that person got "eaten up" dealing with issues those who already checked in were having, e. G. Rooms not suitable, Wi-Fi doesn't work, keys didn't work, general customer complaints, etc. Speaking of Wi-Fi, it didn't work or us either. One of the rooms I rented was a 2 bedroom "suite" and one of the rooms appeared to have no electric including no heat and the lights couldn't be turned on. The rooms were generally "beat-up", meaning they haven't been painted in forever, the appliances, furniture and fixtures are old, very old. The hallways are dark/dank (like the hotel in the movie The Shining), etc. Etc. Etc. In general the people who worked at the hotel suffer from poor moral and this resulted in unhappy employees and unhappy lodgers like me and my family.
It's location was very convenient. Right across the street from MSG and many other attractions. The website did not however specify that a $100 deposit was needed upon checking in. The room was OK and the TV was out dated. One of the towels had a stain and the bathtub/shower was not in great condition. The rooms "climate control" was missing knobs and that too was outdated. We only got two pillows. The receptionist was not very helpful and ignored my question on why a $100 deposit was needed and wasn't very courteous.
I read the reviews before and after I booked my room. I booked a superior king and was not disappointed. It was my 1st time to New York. Our room was clean, the a/c worked terrifically, the bed was comfortable and spacious. The bathroom was not what I'm used to in a hotel room but I had to remember this is an older (1919 building) hotel. You are able to see the hotel is dated but what wouldn't after being around for 96 years and used daily? No bed bugs and our room was serviced daily. New towels, toiletries, trash removed, and bed made. I would definitely stay at Hotel Pennsylvania again. Our room served it's purpose, gave us somewhere to shower, relax before and after all the walking and a comfortable place to sleep. Lastly, checking and check out was a breeze, during check in there was a line with 4 people behind the front desk but it moved fairly quickly and checking out took all but a minute.
This is the worst hotel that I have every stayed in my life. The room has an old and stinky smell. The carpets were really bad and the bathroom water was very dirty. The rooms are claustrophobic. Just you step out of the hotel you see lot of ppl smoking. There are no "No Smoking " signs. The moment I got into it I just wanted to get out of it. Stay out of this one.
The one star is for the superb location. This was the worst hotel I've ever visited in my life. We arrived at 8 am and had to pay 30$ to store our luggage (which in a normal hotel does not cost anything). When we got to our room, the toilet were dirty, there were flies all over and the air-condition didn't work, so we asked to change room. In this room the carpet was soaking wet. We were moved to a different room again, which was tiny and had no air conditioning. Overall we moved 5 (! ) times. Finally we had enough, and asked two cancel our stay and get a refund. The lady at the front desk was extremely rude and refused to call the manager, and treated us with a total disrespect. After arguing with her for half an hour we finally talked to the manager who canceled our reservation. I will never go back to this horrible place!
It's a dump! Believe me! Everybody else here who gives more than 1 star is bought off. Came in at 23:30, check-in took 1, 5 hours (no kidding) because the "system was down". No additional staff, no information, nothing. Lobby didn't look too bad but halls, corridors and room look terrible. Absolutely unacceptable conditions. Everything must be at least 50 years old. Windows had not been washed for several years (it was actually dark in the room although the sun was shining). Facilities are almost unusable. Water was always dripping in the sink… and it smells! No fridge or anything besides a nasty old TV with 5 channels. Not even a small safe for personal belongings like passport etc. No free Internet and paid Internet not working. Whatever you are looking for, you will not find it here. Go somewhere else! If I could — 5 stars, I would. Great location though. Hotel should be closed for complete renovation and then open up under new management. Stay away folks!
The 1 star is for the superb location. My most recent stay was the worst of all. The rooms are definetly not worth the price. I paid for a supreme room but got a run down cell that had mold growing in the ceiling and the tub was chipped. Toilet was from the 18th century. I'm not sure if I was the only one that experienced such discomfort. Get it together Hotel Penn…
Your hotel is a dump. The rooms are old and nasty. The beds are terrible and there was a pillow shortage. The window was broken and maintenance engineer had to stand on the ledge an push it down with his foot to close it. The first room had no air conditioning. Totally disgusting place on a great piece of real estate. You should gut this building and remodel the whole place. I guess you are making plenty of money off of this dump. I will never stay there again. Probably have nicer accommodations in a homeless shelter.
I had a great time staying at the Hotel Pennsylvania. Who goes to a Hotel to spend a lot of time in a room anyway? not me. The check in was fast and I was given an upgrade at no extra charge. I was originaly reserved for a Superior Dbl room and had requested a roll away bed because I was staying there with a friend. Well, no roll aways were available so they free upgraded me to a room with two beds, no extra cost. I found all the staff helpful and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable, everything worked fine. I want to thank the entire Hotel Pennsylvania staff for making my stay an enjoyable one and special thanks to the two ladies who work the information desk. I will be staying there from now on when im in the city. Thank you Hotel Pennsylvania,, PS,, prime location.
Our room was dirty. There was dirt on our sheets, walls were dirty, and fixtures such as lamps were dusty. We've stayed in old outdated hotels before and have felt comfortable, but the facilities were down right dirty. Also, we paid ahead of time and reserved a king size bed. When we arrived they tried to stick us in a room with two double beds instead, beware they tried to not honor our prepaid reservation. In addition, their website states all rooms with king size beds have mini-refrigerators but ours did not. Very disappointed.
Just returned from three weeks in Europe and was looking for a place to chill out for two days before heading home. Found it at the Hotel Pennsylvania! Check-in was quick and the clerk was very courteous. Our room was perfect — the bed was very comfortable and the surroundings were quiet — which enabled us to catch up on some lost sleep. We were able to relax and then stroll around mid-town Manhattan at our leisure. We would definitely stay here again the next time we visit NYC.
If you loved Stephen King's 'The Shining', then this is the hotel for you! The dimly lit corridors lead you to endless stretches of submarine-style doors — the epitome of that Addam's family style we all look for in overpriced lodging. But the real treat lies beyond the steel-trap doors: Bed bugs. These creepy critters welcomed me with open arms and open mouths, but the festivities came to an abrupt end when the bed fully collapsed onto the floor. If you want to fully enjoy your insect parade, be sure to bring a flashlight, as there were no bulbs in any of the light fixtures. Needless to say, my stay at Hotel Transylvania was a once in a lifetime experience. I'm never going back.
I loved it, location was fantastic, staff was nice even though check in was hectic. I got what I paid for! No bed bugs, clean room. I paid for a 1 bed room and the management ended up upgrading me to a 3 bed 6 guest room nothing extra included! I would definitely recommend it anyone going to nyc for a nice reasonable get a way.
I booked a room here couple days ago. My husband went to check in an d they told him the room wasn't paid for. I looked and the money was out of my account. I called the hotel and the management said no your husband is checked in, I said are you kidding me, no hes not. They would not check him in. They transferred me to the front management {they said}. A person named Terrance said well its because of this and tried to justify why they didn't check my husband in. I was like hello the other guy just told me hes checked in. Terrance the director he called himself, was upset that I was upset, lied and said I was cursing at him and he was canceling the whole reservation. He actually said to me, do you know who your talking to? Are you joking me? Does this Terrance think hes GOD? Thank God it was cancelled by Terrance the great! LOL. I can only imagine what the hotel is like if management treats people this way. They have obviously no idea whats going on there. I would stay clear. Then to find out they charged my husbands credit card for the same amount they already took out of my checking account. Horrible customer service.
Funky hotel! For the money you can find something decent.
Too old. The doors of the rooms could be a movie of terror in serieB. The staff did not speak Spanish. In spite of all the location is phenomenal.
We stayed 20 days from January 1, this year, in 999 room, as we had been two years ago, I would like to highlight this opportunity, the magnificent reception that we had and excellent person, orderly, neat and mostly by his decency that carried out the cleaning of the room, which was always impeccable, it, if I am not mistaken was called Gisela Murillo It was Panamanian, I congratulate it for the reception and floor staff.
As for the hotel, price — location and quality is the most satisfactory in New York.
Cordially.

Argentina.
Miss Shela on the front desk check in she does not know who to treat people, rude and low knowledge of service. I do not know who management can have a donkey facing their facility. Facility ok for the price. Strategic place to arrive to anywhere. Old bed and noisy. If I try the same place, maybe. Cost benefit approach.
Excellent location, very comfortable old room, I highlight the welcome attention of the Sra in charge of cleaning, with your help made reservation to travel by van to the airport, facilitandome your cell phone. I was in December and had a great time. We were very little at the hotel, half the night to rest and we did the beds were very comfortable. Fulfilled our expectations. We would have liked to have had free Wi-Fi.
Ill start off with the positive things first. Great location, close to trains and a subway station. Centrally located in Manhattan so everything is just a walk or subway away. Check in and out was easy. Our room was upgraded without even requesting it and Cheap rates! So, why am I only giving it two stars? Mainly just because of the cleanliness of the room and hotel overall. The room was not visibly dirty but the old stained carpet and an old yellowing mattress with dingy walls made you feel dirty just being in it. Not likely to stay here again, but it worked for a cheap week in NYC, which I didn't spend to much time in my room anyways. If this hotel was to get an upgrade with some fresh paint, carpet and mattresses I would stay here in a heartbeat because its a great LOCATION.
Horrible horrible hotel. My wife and I stayed here this january for our anniversary, not knowing much about new york city and because we were only staying one night I thought this was a great deal. We were so wrong. For the price of $130 we got a king size bedroom with a broken TV no Wi-Fi small bathroom with a broken sink. Not to mention the bed was extremly uncomfortable and the veiw was really bad. The rooms were completley outdated and dirty. The staff thats just another story to talk about. Every single person who worked there seemed extremly miserable and rude. The only person who was nice that I met was the man in the luggage hold room all the way downstairs in the creepy basement. Check in was a long wait but check out was really quick. The next day I checked my bank statement to see the hotel had taken out an additional $100 for no reason given to me. When I called they told me it was a hold anf that I would get it back in 7-10 business days as long as the room was the way we got it. I was never aware of the charge and all they could say was that they were sorry for the inconvience. No matter what deal you see for this hotel fnd another one in new york city. The only thing that was positive was the location it was centrally located on 7th ave. But honestly I would rather pay more for a better hotel it was just a horrible horrible place. Please please save your money.
Were there in December 2014 and satisfied. Top location
The Pennsylvania's o. K.
Meh, a below average hotel. Great location, rude reception service, furniture is old and cheap. Beds are rock hard, toilet had poo marks in it, shower damaged, broken taps, ceiling has dead insects stuck to it, windows are dirty, no fridge, Tv is a 20 year old 60cm box, no free Wi-Fi. Heating is awesome, lobby is beautiful. You can see short cuts have been taken, and things are run down. Over priced for the hotel standards, but considering location, prices seem reasonable. Probably wouldnt stay here again. If I could ad photos I would. Have taken photos, contact meif you want to see them.
Good hotel, true to its price a little expensive I think. Paid Wi-Fi, and has no room. Excellent location, close to Metro and bus — and the station. Judging from my friends, I am not the first one who chose this hotel for his first visit to the United States! There is possible, but not more than 2-3 days.
If all you really need is a bed and a hot shower, this place is good enough. I was not a fan — but I enjoy fluffy pillows and towels, free Wi-Fi, and amenities like a coffee maker and hairdryer, none of which are found in this hotel. The lobby is nice, but the rooms are very run down. I stood in line for an entire hour waiting to check in to the room. The location is very helpful though — can't beat the access to public transportation.
It is not the best choice when traveling to NY, but if one of the affordable. Its location is privileged, in front of Madison Square Garden and from our room on the floor 20 enjoy the Empire State we had just across the street.
The staff treats you as if you should them something and not just the tip.
When we stayed already was outdated. It's been a few years and if not have renovated it, who knows what you can find.
Excellent attention, very good room and the best location.
Bad hotel. Very old and expensive for no services. Most unfriendly staff. Bathrooms that smell bad. Small baths and old badly stained windows and doors that open against the walls. Only its location saves him. I recommend enter on your back, with your eyes closed and sleep immediately to prevent damage to the magic of new york.
Each who speaks of the ride as it was, to us was excellent. Hotel very well located, check-in super fast, very comfortable beds, bathroom with hot water, tub and shower and all its accessories super well! Much security, they do not bother and we screened without speaking fluently. Regresariamos to this great hotel. New York! I love this.
Our visit to the hotel remained less good in memory. With the mediocre service, and the location is TOP.
Lobby is okay, a bit confusing. Check-in at 15: 00 is connected to some time due to the mass. We are checked against 18: 00 and were 10 min after arrival in our room.
Booked non smoking room has one King smoking room. In this, the shower (cold water) did not. Also, the window was broken and it beastly reeked of smoke. The only thing is probably cleaned is the mirror in the bathroom, beds and one with the vacuum cleaner on the floor.
Otherwise pretty filthy. Had yet no dirtier accommodation.
Rooms Exchange rooms the next day with three attempts then went in a 1 bed for 2 persons. The friendliness of the reception is Personenabhängig.
I can't give a recommendation for German passengers, even if it is limited only to accommodation.
The hotel offers a good service, the food supply is very well suited for our German.
Our experience at Christmas, are sobering. The rooms are dirty! Through the window you can not really see through. The heating is very noisy (electronic fan). The window is not properly seal. Report it on the whole strongly to grass.
The positive: The beds are made every day, you can reach everything here as well.
Bottom line: I would recommend another hotel. The rooms are not very pretty. The TV is not and the hair dryer is also broken.
What can I say. The hotel is one of the oldest in New York despite the whole bad reviews are unfounded. I was on 2.4.13 — 10 4.13 in the hotel.
The rooms are ok just and for the price you pay.
What certainly can't be beat, is the location. Step out of the hotel and it is right in the middle.
I would book it again.
The hotel retains the image of antiquity. Repair of course not, but for such money is very good. The most important factor is the location-Centre.

Sublime atmosphere in this historic place, always a pleasure to go down to this hotel, nerve center of New York stick to the MSG and Pen station subway. I lived in this mythical place with my family of the precious moments.
