Review of Zante Maris Suites 5*

We have just returned. (May 2017) We were very early in the season and the hotel was quiet. The staff are lovely and friendly and very helpfull and their english is very good. They remember your name which is nice. The hotel is very clean and the service, especially at the bar and recetion is excellent. The free Wi-Fi is good. Be warned though the water in the swimming pool is still very cold!. The food, which is plentiful is 'ok' but we would have liked more 'greek' style. It was also served a little on the cold side. The Avalon cocktails are very nice and the local wine served at dinner very drinkable! We were very pleased to have booked a sea view as the 'mountain view' really should be renamed carpark, rubbish tip and barking dog view. On Zante at the moment there is a dispute between the mayor and the locals and there is obviously problems with rubbish collections which is rather dissapointing. The hotel is obviously having some supply issues with the sun shades, we counted only 5, some of which were broken. The tennis court looked a bit ropey and the minigolf was not finished. There is also some building work going on under the outdoor patio eating area. A gardener to tidy up the patio area to the right of the eating area wouldnt go amiss. The hotel offers a couple of free excusions but one was cancelled with no notice and no explanation. The hotel free bus to the beach and town was welcome but the timings were a bit restrictive. The walk down the hill into town takes only 15 minutes. The taxi ride back is only a couple of minutes but is pricey at 7 euros. I would recommend the hotel as the location is lovely, it's quiet (apart from the barking dog) and the staff are lovely.
