I am giving this hotel a one star, not because of the actual hotel, which was brand new and so of course clean. The breakfast was great, no complaints and the pool was nice. The problem that I had with this hotel was that the room service stole money from my wallet and my wife's wallet. We travelled from San Francisco to attend a wedding at this hotel, which by the way is very hard to get to, given that the road leading to it does not have an entrance and you must travel a long distance and then make a u turn and hopefully your driver knows which entrance to go through. Well, like I said, we had money stolen from our wallets and when we notified the management they said that they would launch an investigation and get back to us. The management did get back to us and pretty much told us that while we were attending the wedding, two of the hotel's employees went into our room, even though the DO NOT DISTURB sign was on the door. When we asked what the hotel was going to do about this they said that they would have to contact the corporate office and get back to us. A few days past and we had not heard anything so we called the hotel and we were told by a Mr. Karl that there really was nothing he could do for us as our wallets were not in the safe. It was not until I threaten to call the Tourism Police and the American Embassy that he said he would try again to see what he could do. Mr. Karl called back the next day and said that the hotel would refund the stolen amount but admitted no wrong doing on the part of the hotel. Are you kidding me! only a few days earlier, this same Mr. Karl. Gave me the names of the employees that went into our room, gave me the exact time and told me that they had been fired. Bottom line, if you have any valuables that you can't fit into a tiny hotel safe, like your Gucci purse, then DON'T stay at this hotel. If it does not fit in the safe, then the hotel is not liable. I have stayed at many wonderful hotels in Cairo over the years and have NEVER been unhappy with any of them. All of them have had great customer service and hotel managers that made sure my stay was pleasant. I will end by saying this, if you want great customer service from upper management, then don't stay at the Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski, choose one of the many wonderful 5 star hotels in Cairo.
