This is not my 1st stay with the Royal Holiday chain. I thought I would give it a 2nd chance. When I arrived I thought that the exterior was amazingly beautiful and the grounds were really well maintained, but when I arrived at my room the interior of the room was very disappointing. A bit outdated, but I don't care if it is old… just that it's maintained. The woven thing on the wall looked like it was falling apart. The ceiling had some cracks in it that were noticeable. Also the pictures shows towels in the shape of animals or flowers with flowers placed on them (I only bring it up b/c the pics. Showed this in the type of room I stayed in), this was not the case and upon opening the door the room smelled of mold. The A/C read at 50 degrees, but it was more like 75+ humidity. The guest I was with was pouring buckets of sweat for a good 4 out of 7 days. I am assuming his body started acclimating to the temp. Lol. I mentioned the mold smell to the hotel staff in the lobby and the man just stared at me. The mold wouldn't have been a big deal, but I have asthma. So this made the time in the room anything but pleasant. During that same discussion that I discussed the mold issue I also complained about the A/C not working properly & nothing was done. I late complained again about the A/C and they still did nothing. They kept saying they would get back w/me & they never did. After about the 3rd day I noticed that our pillows smelled really strange. Almost sour. I never mentioned it because I figured if they haven't taken care of the other issues why waist my breath. Other than the room being anything but great the excursions were fun. I do suggest that people visit Saona Island. Just be prepared to drive around for 30 minutes or more and be crammed into a bus with lots of people. The island itself was breathtaking. When I return to the D. R. I will definitely not be staying at any hotel affiliated with Royal Holiday.
