We stayed at Makronisos for the second year in August 2017 for 2 weeks as we had such a great time last year. As an English/Cypriot family this hotel offers us a great location and facilities that allow us to enjoy the best of both worlds. We choose once again to book self-catering as this works best for us. Room We had a second floor superior apartment with balcony overlooking the pool. As you enter you have a large open plan living kitchen diner which clean modern and spacious. It has a dining table for x4, x2 arm chairs, coffee table, TV, sofa bed and the all-important free air-conditioning. The kitchen was fully equip with a fridge, hob and all the necessary equipment to allow us to make our breakfasts and lunches. It has patio doors to a large balcony with outside table and chairs. The balcony wall/railings was at good height without any safety concerns for our children to be out there alone. We had a second bed for our child and they both slept comfortability in this room. We had a second separate room which had the bathroom (bath and shower) attached. Our room had a large wardrobe with draws, a dressing table and separate free air-conditioning. We also had patio doors to the large balcony. Our room was clean daily except Sundays and we was provided with fresh towels. Facilities The pool at this hotel is amazing! There is plenty of beds, the pool is clean and nearly half of the large pool is shallow enough for our 4 year old to stand. There is also a separate small pool for younger children. The pool has a lifeguard, Christina, on duty every day and she is amazing! She manages the pool really effectivity and doesn’t miss a trick. She also maintains the behaviour of the few “adults” who I have seen at other resorts causing a nuisance the others trying to relax. My husband also used the onsite gym which was good with decent aircon. The areas around the hotel are very well maintained with beautiful flowering bushes and shrubs. The reception team are great and are very accommodating and helpful. There is a coin operated washer and dryer available which we found useful. Food/Bar Although we was self-catering we ate several times at hotel, especially at night. The food is great, we really enjoyed the Cypriot and Greek nights. There was plenty of freshly cooked tasty dishes and was overseen by the hard working chefs. The bar and its staff Andreas/Elena to mention a few really work hard and provide a great service and are always friendly. Entertainment Our girls who are 4 and 8 enjoyed the activities in the day and also the mini disco at night. The shows that was on was already good. This is an area which I think can be improved. Location Please don’t be put off by the word Ayia Napa! The party and bar area of Ayia napa which you see on tele is about 5k from here. If you turn left outside the hotel you can either walk, get a bus which are very frequent and run into the early hours or get a taxi, to take you to the main street where there are lots of shops, restaurants, bakeries and bars. It is very family friendly and plenty to choose from. If you do go into the main square at night it is great too, we enjoyed a night out without the kids and there is a range of bars and live music and has a mixed crowd. Beach We really like Ayia Thekla beach, it has crystal clear water, the sand is cleaned, not too busy and has a restaurant/bar for a good lunch. We have a car so only a couple a minutes up the road which makes it easier as it’s about 25 min walk. I would recommend getting a cab in the day time heat rather than walking. As with most families with young children, finding somewhere that you trust and you are willing to hand over your hand earned cash to is a difficult decision. The fact that we returned here for a second year says it all, we love this place and what it has to offer. Our girls call our room home and we look forward to many more holidays at Makronisos Holiday Village!
