Excellent grounds, the staff was very friendly and helpful as well. The tents were arranged well and were comfortable. The chef does great work and there is never much of a wait. I was expecting many bugs and ticks but really didn't see many of them. I would like to stay there again.

La Leona Eco Lodge is located between Playa Carate and one of the main entrances to Corcovado National Park. The name La Leona — meaning Lioness or female lion — is derived from the ancient assumption by locals that the Puma, which is widely found in the area, was a female lion. La Leona is owned by Walter and Salma a Costa Rican couple from Santa Teresa who started the place in 2000. There are 19 cabins, one open dinning and bar area overlooking the sea and a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The cabins are organized in three levels — seafront cabins (1 to 10) shared cabins (14 to 18) and mountain range cabins (19 to 24). Seafront and mountain range cabins feature their own toilets and shower, while shared cabins (14 — 18) have access to a shared shower area and toilets. We stayed in cabin 19 and had to walk for about 8 minutes up the hill to arrive to our cabin. Upon arriving to Carate we stopped at Leona Base Camp which is 3.9k to the lodge. We drove past the airport to the starting point of Rio Carate (which serves as the end of the road for motorized vehicles). From that points onwards we had to complete a 2.5K trek through a jungle trial — thirty minute walk at a normal pace — to get the La Leona. Las Leona trial is one of the three entrances to Corcovado National Park. La Leona Eco Lodge can provide bag transport services for those requiring assistance.

Awesome place to get off the grid.

This is very nearly our favorite part of our whole visit to Costa Rica, next to our exploration of Corcovado Nat'l Park and the jungle itself. Such a romantic vibe. The people were so friendly and accommodating. The night river tour was excellent. There is a fresh water lagoon for swimming just down the beach. Loved the private yet open air shower in the tents. The horse cart was the final touch to make it perfect. Highly recommended!

This is an excellent place to add to your trip to Costa Rica! Take a day to explore Corcovado National Park with one of the local guides at La Leona while you are there. Milton and Jim were both wonderful guides and taught us so much during our stay. Expect to experience breathtaking sunrises every morning and beautiful sunsets every night. Great atmosphere, amazing staff! Cannot wait to return again!

Place for relaxation. The family that built this Lodge you really want to keep both the place and the environment causing impact to a minimum in your environment. Cute place, clean, well attended, excellent food, full of art and landscapes, each time one looks at where you see something cute, whether of the lodge or of the nature. To get there, take the public transport from puerto Jimenez (Is a Truck) that leaves twice a day, early type 06:00AM and also at 13:00 H (Not quite sure of this completed) The stop of this shuttle is not very far from the centre of the village. You can also rent a 4WD / 4X4 there are two rental car in the area that can be of help. Toyota Car Rental, or Solid Car Rent (Solid is cheaper) public transport is fine if you are traveling with a good time but to have more freedom to visit various places and take advantage of what is best to have a car. The route Puerto Jimenez — Carate. Be careful on this road, is gravel (Not pavement) there are many holes in the product of the rain which is a lot and you have to cross several rivers on the way, which are growing constantly by the rain. It is worth mentioning that there are a lot of life that you can see easily from the car on the road and is not something that one wants to lose. To do. Apart from relaxing in the hotel in a hammock you can make tours to Corcovado National Park, sector La Leona.
