Review of Medellin Marriott Hotel 4*

To start, the post that says a dog sniffs you every time you arrive is just plain inaccurate. Yes, there was a very cute golden retriever at the door each day, but the handler barely let the dog approach and was not threatening at all. As for the rest, this is a great property overall, but possibly going through some growing pains as a new Marriott. Nothing was horrible, but there were a few minor customer service issues. First, upon arrival our room was not properly cleaned. There was a wet coffee filter in the coffee machine and some normal amenities were missing. We also had to call for more towels and toiletries (family of 4), and it took more than 3 hours to receive them. Just not standard for a Marriott. The lounge is very nice and the staff are friendly as can be, but the food was not impressive. Despite an wide selection of tropical fruit, most of the food was stale or looked like it was being reused after more than one day. If you’re going to offer popcorn or salmon, it had better be fresh. Most of the stuff on display was not. The sushi, while basic, did appear somewhat fresher than the other offerings. Maybe scale back quantities and focus on quality? You can order eggs in the morning, but on the one occasion I did so it took so long (30+ mins) that I decided I had to leave. The staff, to their credit, were very apologetic and pushed to make up for it the remainder of our visit. I want to point out that the manager in the lounge was excellent. She was always watching after us to ensure we received good service. Also, the doormen were always smiling and very friendly. One in particular, Francisco, went out of his way to grab the door for us every time he saw us approaching. Location is a bit outside of the happening areas in El Poblado, but overall good. Would be a great location for business, maybe not so much for vacation. Overall, I recommend this location as I think it has a lot of potential to be an excellent Marriott.
