As a motel, the rooms look great but has a funky\musky smell from the AC unit. The pool needs better cleaning. The included breakfast is where it needs a lot of improvement. You'll have your basic English style breakfast (Pastry, cereal, bread, PB and Jam) They also include one type of eggs (Scrambled), English sausage and a waffle maker. Tea and coffee station as well. If you go early in the morning (Between 7 and 8 am) You'll be able to have all the above. Anything between 8:30 and 10 am. Forget the eggs and sausages. We went around 9:00 am, I had to tell the lady working to make more eggs and sausage as she said. Sorry it's finished. As we were waiting about 15 to 20 more people came in for breakfast. The main items should always be available until 10 am as stated in the deal. Breakfast included from 7am to 10 am! It's only 2 items, it can't be hard to make it available.

Stayed overnight and had a great time. The room we had was freshly painted and the room seemed recently renovated. Bar fridge and microwave in the room. Continental breakfast in the morning was good. The outdoor pool was salt water pool and heated. Ample parking was available. All in all my family had a great time.

Completely refurbished, a few minutes walk from the Centre and the edge of the St. Lawrence. The room is well decorated, spacious and very clean.
A single downside, the slab is common to all the rooms which makes you hear and feel the other guests walk in the adjoining rooms.

Stay somewhere else! Bed was hard and springy. Room smelled funny. Toilet was really short and small. Just a very basic room. The front desk told us a group of old people were staying there and were wiping out the breakfast in the morning. This is unacceptable. The hotel should account for this.

Our room was comfortable with a good bed, new and really thick carpet flat screen tv, microwave (good for making popcorn) and a fridge. It also has an AC which we did not use because it was not that warm. The bathroom was also newly renovated with a good shower. Room was clean. Minus 1 star because of the breakfast, especially that everything (cups, plates, cutlery) is made of plastic! Minus another star because the outside does not look very welcoming.

Wow, I slept like a rock at this place. So quiet. Room was clean. It was just what we needed. THANK YOU! Customer service needed a little more hospitality, but the good night sleep made up for the mediocre front desk service. Stay here if you are in the area. Well worth the price…

Not bad for the price. Well located near many resturaunts, LCBO in walking distance. We were working on a Solar project and this place worked out well. Room was renovated recently. New AC unit and heater. Breakfast was simple but good. Wafffles, yogurt, toast, coffee, orange juice. We typically stay in hotels double the price.

Comfortable spacious rooms, fridge and microwave, simple but complete breakfast. A little road noise through the doors. Not sure what it would be like in the summer with the ancient wall unit air conditioner. We stayed in winter. One of the best 2 stars I've stayed at.

The house keeping staff are great. Rooms are always spectacular.

Rooms were clean, and conviently located on the main drag. Didn't use the pool because it was end of November. No complaints.

The hotel is very clean. Cleaning of the room at 2:00 am!

For a low frills location, we were happy with our stay. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. The outdoor pool looked a bit small but it wasn't swimming season. The room had a fridge and microwave which could be handy for some as there are almost no late night food options in the area.

Place is good but the Wi-Fi doesn't work. Breakfast is just ok.

Decent rooms. Very rude counter staff. Made the stay a very unpleasant one.

A nice respite from the road while on a bicycle tour. Warm shower, cool air and a soft bed. Waited until after 7am for the breakfast area to open but it never did. Had breakfast down the street to the West at a small restaurant and antique shop.

If you're looking for a no frills motel, this place is for you. Older rooms, older towels and poor cleanliness are th highlights. I don't think this AC filter has been changed in a few years.

Hotel is clean, nice for a 1 night stay, my only complaint is when I called to ask to get more towel, as we used the ones we had from the pool, I found the women at the front desk to be kind of rude and annoyed that I was asking her do to something! The breakfast is very good! The waffles are really nice and really help fill you up before you continue on your travels!

A pretty ordinary road motel just outside the village of Gananoque. The room had a smoking smell despite being non-smoking. Not recommended.

Gorgeous little establishment. A short walk to shops and the harbour. Will definitely stay again.

Management was very helpful rooms are very clean staff was very friendly and helpful.

Good rooms, free breakfast, right on the main road (King Street). Room service a little slow. We booked using our BMO rewards. Even then, pretty good value for money. Queen room is pretty specious with 4 beds. Has a microwave, TV and a Mini fridge.

The room was nice. It had a decent amount of space even with the 3 large beds in the room. The staff were amazing. The building itself was updated pretty cheaply but was still well done. The pool was really nice to be able to cool off in and spend some time relaxing. The room was insanely hot when we got there because the fridge exterior gave off alot of heat and the a/c was off. So it took a few hours for it to be comfortable enough to sleep in. But overall it was a nice place to crash for the night.

Got to reception at 2:00 am, very cordial. Beautiful room at price point. Kids loved room layout. Bathroom quaint, watch your head on the showerstall 6'+ duck your head.

2.5 stars It is run by a manager/family that is not the best or most professional at running such an operation. Seemed very detached and indifferent. No mention of the breakfast hours, check-out time, ice machine, Wi-Fi password,. Large outside pool but no exercise-room or elevators. Bathroom fan and toilet too loud. The property has had a couple of upgrades, reluctantly and that is probably due to HJ's insistence. We were shocked to witness a lack of standards on HJ's part. Unless of course, this is their standard : ( Noisy location. Recomende at under $75/night. Follow me as I write my honest reviews.

Cheapest in town (99.99$ + tax), good location with very short distance to center of town and restaurants. Room and shower were clean, but very basic (i. E. Nothing but 2 beds, TV, micro, mini-fridge, coffee maker + paper cups, 2 chairs and a small round table). The staff were very nice and helpful. They have a small pool (runs to 10pm), free Wi-Fi (passwd given on keycard), complimentary breakfast. The outside entrance to the rooms is a little run-down, with obvious tear showing. Some of the railings are crooked.

We just visited the place this week and we did not find any of the horrifying experiences others have described. We had booked a room with 2 queen beds. Both of them were to our liking with nice firm mattresses. I am sure the owners have made a conscious effort to improve the facilities there and that reflects as soon as we entered the room. This one was the cleanest HJ I have found in a long time, specially after the renovation. Customer service was excellent and whatever we requested was delivered with a smile. Breakfast was a standard affair which can be expected from any hotel. Well stocked with cereals, bread, milk, waffle maker (the owners wife, helped me prepare one for me). She also offered to make tea, the way we prefer, which was gladly accepted. All in all it was a good experience.

Please avoid. The worst place that we have ever stayed. Booked though expedia. What a mistake. There was no heated pool as advertised. There is an outdoor pool that even our kids would not swim in because it was too cold. BTW we stayed there in late August and our unheated pool at home was 10 degrees warmer than the hot tub or pool. Stayed for two nights and the room was never cleaned nor the beds made nor the bathroom cleaned. Door to enter the room almost had to be kicked in it stuck so badly. Window air conditioner did work but was soooooooooo loud that you could hardly sleep. Room had quite a number of ants in it, informed front desk who were not concerned in the least. very disappointed! stay away.

This was by far THE worst place I have ever stayed in. I knew it was a mistake the second I entered the reception area. It smelled of stale currie, and looked like it had been furnished by Goodwill. If it were not after 4pm when I got there to check in, I would have walked right out again, but being after 4pm, according to my online booking terms, I was paying or the room either way. The room was supposedly an upgraded room, but from what I saw when I opened the door, it looked like the sort of seedy motel room you might see in a horror movie. The room smelled musty, the carpet was stained, and the furnishings, once again, looked like Goodwill was the supplier. The bathroom was atrocious. The toilet had urine stains on it, the sink was heavily rusted, and the ceiling fan sounded like it was going to fall out of the ceiling, squealing like a banshee. There were also scraps of food down the side of the bed. When I wrote to the Howard-Johnson head office, they were less than sympathetic and the owner of the HJ in question, instead of offering me a refund for a horrible experience, offered me 50% off my next visit. Like I would EVER go back to that place, at any price. I wish I could add the pictures I took. Do yourself a favor, and stay at the Best Western across the road.
