3.5 stars. Location is excellent — very close to parliment and many attractions. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was just large enough but not overly spacious. Our window overlooked the park but was dirty inside and out and at night spot lights from the hotel lit up the window and the bugs and spiders that made the window ledge their home. There were no towel bars or hooks in the bathroom so we have to hang our towels on hangers in the hall storage area.

Excellent hotel with beautifully decorated modern rooms. Staff are extremely helpful and quick to offer assistance. The is a Starbucks attached to the hotel. Other amenities include pool and small gym. Steps from great pubs and restaurants. Very close to Parliament Hill and many other tourist attractions. Parking is the only drawback, it's not onsite but the valets are quick and professional.

A very well located hotel. On the edge of the business district, you're able to walk to any office building or entertainment and/or dinner in the market or Elgin Street. There is also a Starbucks and nice restaurant on the ground floor.

Terms what I experience! The room was very clean and comfortable. We will return again!

Friendly staff. Great size rooms! Loved the 24hr fitness centre. There's an attached Starbucks to the hotel which was awesome. Hotel is a decent distance to all the trendy downtown scenes.

We stayed on the top floor. Room was nice, bit small. Pool wasn't the greatest looking. Staff were amazing though, super helpful and extremely kind. Very impressed with all the staff there. Great location, right downtown and close to the market. The valet parking was great, and very quick to bring us our vehicle.

Staff were very welcoming and efficient. The room was comfortable, clean and well provisioned. Breakfast buffet selection was good, with a wide variety, from full cooked breakfast to continental breakfast pastries, cold meats and cheeses. The central location is excellent, within walking distance to Parliament and Byward Market. We even walked across the river to the Museum of Canadian History, which was pleasant walk and worth the half-day museum visit.

The egg hunt on Easter morning. The entire Centre of Ottawa on foot. The pool and hot tub. The kids were thrilled. The valet even told us less expensive parking options.

This was a great hotel. The rooms were clean and had everything we could need. It's great having a Starbucks attached to the hotel, although I wish their hours were a little longer but still it's great for an early morning cup. Also this hotel is located in a great area downtown Ottawa with everything just a walk away. There is no parking but they have valet service which was pretty efficient even though it was a busy weekend that we were there. Oh and you can tell that Ottawa is a winter and ice skating city since the wardrobes in the room have a shelf for boots and skates. Cute.

Great location of restaurants and shopping centers.

EDITED, 3 DAYS LATER: Just wanted to say that the Lord Elgin was in touch, they refunded the canceled reservations, and were quite nice about it. So from my perspective, the issue was solved to my complete satisfaction and we'll definitely consider staying there in the future. INITIAL REVIEW: Booked 2 rooms yesterday; had to cancel less than 24 hours later. (A relative is in Ottawa General with terminal cancer and she's been put in isolation so our trip from Toronto would have been wasted. ) Expected to pay some sort of cancellation fee, but was surprised to learn that (a) we had to pay in full for both rooms; (b) we would be offered no compensation/alternatives/credits; (c) the person on the other end of the phone was not only unhelpful ("maybe you could provide some medical paperwork, but I don't know, if they haven't actually died") but then either transferred or put me on hold, mid-conversation, and I was lost in some kind of weird static land. Called back about 2 minutes later and was able to speak to someone a little more friendly — but as we were speaking, I got email confirmation that the rooms had been canceled! The unhelpful first rep was on a mission to create a dissatisfied customer, apparently. Is it even legal to do that — to cancel a reservation and STILL take all your money? I mean, we have family in Ottawa — maybe one of them would have enjoyed the two rooms we're paying for but not staying in.

Best location by far. Beautiful and has everything. Pool, spa & fitness center! Very nice restaurant. Gift shop. Terrific lobby area to just hang and relax. Also a full service Starbucks! Can't ask for more. My husband & I both experienced what we believe to be a ghost experience. Mine was first night. Tapped on shoulder in very early hours. My husband was touched on his side waistline area on two separate nights. Left him with a cold chill throughout his body both times. Second time was more intense. Morning of checkout day out door did not work to get back in after getting coffee downstairs. Had to be drilled open. Red light stayed on, master keys did not work to open.

We just spent 5 days at the Elgin Hotel. It was perfect! The location was ideal — right near skating, ice sculptures, mall, market etc Never had to drive. The hospitality at the Hotel was outstanding… EVERYONE was so VERY friendly and helpful. I recommend staying here… Kathy.

The place is okay. But we are served in English even if they are answered in French… in the capital of a country with two official languages, we must do it anyway. There is confusion at the level of the Wi-Fi: Sometimes free or paid in the rooms, sometimes free at the bar, in short a real "trap door" for anyone who does not read the small characters on the map that we are handed to us at the reception. The price of drinks at the hotel bar is abusive (10, $35 for one drink). Short… Airbnb remains an alternative to explore.

Nice hotel. Location is perfect if you'd like to explore the central area of Ottawa as it is all within walking distance. Renovated rooms. Quiet stay and comfy beds. Bellmen were fantastic and retrieved vehicle from valet parking quickly.

Very clean and good quality! Even though it was busy checking in the process was quick and the wait was short. The pool and spa were very clean. Sauna and fitness center were nice e as well. We found our room a little cold but it was — 18 out.

Excellent location. The bellmen are absolute gems and genuine. The reception staff were professional and helpful with things such as alternative parking. The lobby decor is posh. Our corner room is spacious, comfortable, well appointed with great coffee and clear large flat screen TV with great view of the city. Can't imagine the good being anything but great and well let you know once we have consumed. Highly recommended so far.

Friendly staff, valet is top notch and quick. Rooms were tidy, well kept and clean. Lots of space in the rooms, you won't feel crowded or cramped. Beds are comfortable, showers are top notch. 10/10 would stay again.

Very good located hotel. The room was very big and with a new bathroom. Comfortable bed and big screen LCD screen. Including a capsule coffee machine with some capsules for daily use. The breakfast is served in the restaurant. Big choice of warm and cold stuff.

We loved our stay! Welcoming, clean and very well located: 5 min walk from Parliament, 15 min walk from Natural Museum. The pool has made children happy. The restaurant is good, not much choice on the menu, but we liked our supper. Breakfast well, with lots of choice, a bit expensive though. There is always the choice of Starbucks; —) A great experience!

All staff, especially the valets, are very friendly and provide excellent service. Beds are very comfortable and room is clean. Our bathroom is nicely updated and has a pocket door which at first was really great, but it doesn't have a lock! Truly the only thing wrong with our stay. Fantastic experience.

The desk clerks and valets were very personable and courteous. The hotel was very nice and quite close to all amenities. The view from the room was absolutely incredible overlooking the park across from the entrance of the Lord Elgin. The room itself was spectacular, the bed was terrific and the bathroom was nice. The only issue found was the initial parking. The loading zone is very cramped and if the hotel is busy, it is hard to get in or out of the loading zone. However the valets are very kind quickly came to assist in directing traffic flow inside the loading zone.

I was a little disappointed. From. This hotel, from how they had presented it seemed to be elegant, in fact I found the old room, the small bathroom. Great location, close to the most important places to visit. Cleaning OK.

Great hotel that was nice and clean. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. My only complaint is their bathroom door. It isn't like a normal door with a door knob and lock. Instead, it's like a shower door where you have to slide it across a track. It is a huge inconvenience and is like a boulder to shut or open.

The hotel deserves its classification — beautiful and very comfortable rooms — plentiful breakfast in addition to its location in downtown Ottawa.

This review is based on my first stay at this property. Ask for an even numbered room so that you don't face Elgin Street. The blackout curtains are amazing to block the sun but do nothing to reduce road noise. The bed is firm and the pillows are soft. The room is well appointed and the bathroom is stunning though heated tile floors would be welcome.

Very peaceful place. Very good location in the city center. Very courteous people.

Beautiful hotel and absolutely wonderful helpful staff that went above and beyond to make my kids and family very comfortable during our stay. Special thanks to Christopher (for parking the Green Ferrari and Blue Tesla) for my sons ;) The hotel is centrally located in close walking distance to attractions. I will definitely be staying here again on my next visit.

The staff are polite, friendly, helpful and genuine. Small town hospitality in a large city. They welcomed me back every time I returned from my day excursions, and took interest in my plans for the day. I always get a little home sick when I travel, but I never felt that while staying here. I will only stay at Lord Elgin when I travel to Ottawa. Also walking distance to many attractions.

Good service. The staff was courteous. The room was clean and comfortable. Good soundproofing as there were few noises even though the hotel was full. The Wi-Fi connection, however, leaves a desire in the rooms.

Best customer service and valet service that I've seen at a hotel EVER. Staff was friendly, courteous, and even made great recommendations for food and entertainment. Room was neat, and very modern. Large walk in shower in King size room that blew me away. Walking distance to everything you'd want to do in Ottawa (parliament, great eats, museums, etc. ) $30 valet service seemed a bit steep at first glance, but included in and out at any time and was definitely worth it. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Great hotel and great staff. Several times we needed stuff from our car. Each time, the staff happily obliged to get it and deliver it right to our room. Each time, the staff was courteous and never "waited for a tip" as I have seen at other places (but we did tip them each time). The pool was nice. The only thing I would advise is that it is 4 feet at the shallowest which was too high for our kids to touch. There were a few life jackets available for kids. The location is great. Easy walk to Parliament, the Market and restaurants. Would definitely return if we ever get the chance!

We stayed at the Lord Elgin on Easter weekend, and found our room very nice.
The bedding was very good too, the room service also.
We enjoyed the pool, and the staff are very nice and professional.
We also took the parking service, which is not given, but it is worth it, as the parking spaces on the street are almost non-existent.
Very good hotel, very good location, close to Parliament.

Attended a social function in the Ontario Room of the Lord Elgin Hotel. Found the staff helpful and courtious. The room was spacious and clean. The function included 15+ babies under the age of one and the facility handled this requirement with patience and ease (they even provided ample stroller parking! ). I would definitely recommend this facility in the future.

I put my do not disturb sign and guess what? They do disturbe. Worst part is they dont knock and say house keeping like other hotels do, they just open the door without permission. And they did that twice a day. The reception even called in my room to ask if I wanted house keeping. The rooms dont have much lightning in them. The phone beside the bed wasnt functional, there was no wires attached to it what so ever. The lobby doors are locked at nights, and having guests over at night time is a hassle. And there is no oulet beside the bed to charge your phone. Oh and at checkout no one called no house keeping came to open my door because im guessing because theres a fee after 1pm. But throughout the whole stay they kept on bothering me.

Lobby was decent, the TV had all the every channel you would need however I wish I didn't have to point at the TV every time I wanted to raise the volume or change the channel. The beds were comfortable and big enough and surprisingly the alarm had relaxing music that was really helpful since I had a hard time going to sleep, it also came with an aux cord so it was easy to plug in my own music. The worst part of the hotel was the washroom: it was missing essential things like air conditioning, body wash and tooth paste. Overall, its hard to tell if I can recommend this hotel.

Attended a wedding here. The service was beautiful and the reception area was surprisingly secluded and intimate. The food was fantastic, and when the bar ran out of water near the end of the night, we were still able to access water at another on-site bar for the same discounted reception price. Wonderful customer service. Bonus: Starbucks on site.

This place has a ton of shops and restaurants nearby so that is convenient. The rooms are ok, though they could be cleaner. Staff is generally nice.

I am currently at a really nice to have to the fam the best way to get drunk and I will be a good time to time and money to pay 3rd 360&bih I 3 the weeknd the kno the these things to be able I will not be a 60 I am not going anywhere in the face of the gtr and that truck was VERY nice 96 I will have the ability to work on it 9th grade and friday I will have the ability for you guys have a great day to you and your family is the first one of those who want the weeknd loft the weeknd the kno.

Tasteful rooms. Good service. Handy business centre. Gym oriented more towards machines than lifting — — only a few dumbbells. Pool big but over-chlorinated.

Very nice hotel. Everyone has been really nice and the rooms were great. It has a great location for walking around town. I would highly recommend it.

Great location for shopping and eating out. A walking distance to a great mall and tons of restaurants. The rooms were older but well kept and had all the expected amenities. Parking through valet was seamless.

Great location downtown. Close to a bunch of places to eat, drink, shop, and tour (a short walk to parliament if that's in the plans). Nice interior, a good hot tub and swimming pool (but no deep end). Rooms a little small, but very clean. A great view of the park if you're on that side.

Well located, very luxurious, but somewhat out of date, facilities still need some upgrades. Good service, but not outstanding. For the price I would expect the water bottle be included in the price of the room. That being said it was still a good overall experience. Would recommend for someone looking for luxury and great location.

Rooms were very clean, and the bed was perfect. The lack of additional bedside plugs made it a little difficult to ha dke my multiple electronics. The service was excellent though. On the second day my key card stoped working, and I got it replacd without a hassle. They have a space for busyness that had some computers and a printer. While I had my own laptop, it was great to know I didn't have to stay in my room to get some extra work done.

Located in the heart of downtown, a short walk from Parliament hill, the Lord Elgin is the perfect place for tourists. We stayed in a Parkview room, which was clean and spacious, and had excellent service from all staff. The hotel is also equidistant to most of Ottawas museums, which made trip planning a breeze. Excellent stay 10/10

Such great service all throughout our stay Dec. 26 to 28th. Brought our cat and the room assigned on the 2nd floor was perfect. Only note bathroom was a tad small. Extremely clean room. Breakfast buffet so worth it! Our family love it on both mornings. Historical landmark situated in short walking distance from everything. Will definitely return to the Lord Elgin.

Beautiful hotel in the Normandy style. There are always several bell boys available to open doors and assist with luggage as well as a taxi whenever you need. The pool closes at 10pm which is a bit early but the fitness center is 24 hours. The restaurant in the hotel can be quite expensive compared to other local cuisine but that's to be expected. Rooms were very nice and have a great view of the city.

Great stay! We stayed here November 27th thru November 29th for a weekend trip away. We were happy to receive early check in with a fridge that we requested. Valet was a bit expensive so we opted to park at City Hall for a fraction of the price and it was very close to the Lord Elgin. Once in the room, it was very clean with a nice large new TV. The only down side to the room was the view, but we were bothered as we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. There was a door tag that notified us that if we wanted to forgo room service we would get a $5 Starbucks coupon which was conveniently located in the lobby, so we did. Once we arrived and we were ready to go out and it was raining pretty heavily so we asked at the from desk if they had an umbrella for us and sure enough they did. And lastly, we later found out that the Lord Elgin is dog friendly! They are restricted to the second floor but they are welcomed. They met all our expectations and more. Would stay here again!

Stunning facilities excellent staff.

My wife and I just returned from a stay at Ottawa's Lord Elgin Hotel. We stayed for four nights and found the hotel well kept, quiet and very clean. However we did have an unpleasant experience. Days prior to our arrival, I called to confirm our room rates with the hotel reservation department, at the hotel. To ensure there was no misunderstanding, I repeated what I had been quoted and once again, the attendant confirmed. The day before we left, to avoid any unwanted surprises, I called the front desk to get the total cost of our stay. Lo and behold, after all the prior verification, the rate we were quoted on the phone was not applicable. We we were dumbfounded. We went to the front desk and although the front desk attendant confirmed and agreed that we had indeed been quoted a lower rate, "the hotel had made a mistake" and… we would have to pay the higher price. The Lord Elgin Hotel could only muster a "Sorry" and wouldn't honour the arrangement/costs previously agreed on. Unbelievable! (Hence the 1-star review) The Lord Elgin Hotel has potentially lost all our future business (and our family's and friends') for failing to be customer-focused, owning their mistake and honouring a quoted rate. Standard Generic room but great service from the staff and has a nice location.

Perfect Location in the middle of the city, super staff that will make you directly feel welcome. The rooms are very clean and tidy. Happy again!

Stayed at this hotel for our 1st wedding anniversary over the Labour Day long weekend. We booked an Elgin Class Executive King Room and it was fantastic. We had a lovely corner room with a great view of the park near City Hall on one side, and a beautiful old church on the other. It was clean, well appointed, and quite spacious. The hotel is centrally located to just about everything: Parliament, the war memorial, Byward Market, City Hall, etc. Would definitely stay here again!

Dirty towels, sketchy room. Low rent vibe at $200/night. Avoid unless location is critical.

The location is the very best. Walking distance to anywhere downtown and museums. Rooms are clean quiet and comfortable. And free Wi-Fi which large chains always manage to find a way to charge for.

Excellent Hotel near most important places and events in the downtown Ottawa. Staff was excellent and an enjoyable stay.

I stayed here for a conference in October 2014. Great location! Its near to the convention center, restaurants, and the Rideau Canal for some great biking. The staff was very helpful and cheerful and provided lots of suggestions when asked. We're coming back to ice skate in January and hope to stay here again.

I stayed there recently and got the Elgin Class Executive King Room. On their website, when you click on the list of Amenities, it says you get a park view room and a jet bathtub. What isn't stated in that list, is I guess only SOME of the rooms get those. But that's the only real complaint, and that's not against the hotel, just whoever is running the website. The staff was extremely friendly. The service was amazing. The room was huge. It's a great location if you want to be near the Parliament building, Canal, Byward market — or downtown.

I've stayed at many hotels in Ottawa, and the Lord Elgin is my favourite. It seems like the kind of place that would be very pretentious, but it's not. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are great. Free internet is nice too. The only flaw is the restaurant/bar. Terrible overpriced food, inattentive staff, and cheap decor. However, there are many other food and drink options in the area.

This hotel was amazing. My boyfriend and I had a horrible experience at a near by hotel and went looking for something new. As soon as we walked into the Lord Elgin we told them about our experience and they immediately upgraded our room for free. The view was amazing and everyone on staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Not to mention downtown Ottawa parking can be a nightmare and the valet service alleviates all that stress. Oh and the restaurant down stairs is a must :).

My boyfriend and I went for Winterlude 2013 and stayed for 3 nights. The hotel was in the best location! Our room was awesome and had a balcony that overlooked the main area for the ice carving sculptures and other events! We were within walking distance to all the major sites and attractions. The hotel was very clean and well kept. The valet parking was a breeze to use and the hotel staff were all very helpful and friendly, we would definitely stay at The Lord Elgin again.

My wife and I stayed at the Lord Elgin on our honeymoon, and I would recommend both the hotel and restaurant highly. When we booked our room, and I told them I was booking it for our wedding night, the staff made sure we got a good rate — and the room. Was fabulous We ate at Grill 41 for both breakfast and supper on two days, and were impressed by the service and the quality of the food. The view of downtown Ottawa was romantic, and we enjoyed the feeling of being pampered. We have fond memories of our time there, and plan to return there in the future. I would recommend it to other couples looking for a romantic getaway in the middle of the city.
