Reviews of 1 Hotel Toronto 5*
Stopped in for brunch this morning. Fast service and high quality food! I highly recommend the Reuben and the fries were delicious. Will definitely be back!
Great overall experience!
Great night life, love the rooms. Stayed there last night and was fantastic.
Nice place! Great view on Rooftop.
The lady at the front desk was quite nice, but everyone else was so rude!
We discovered someone left their dirty boxers behind our tv, we called the front desk and they had a cleaning lady come up.
While she was there, I asked where the thermostat was to which I got the reply “I don’t know, I’m new here”.
We came back from our concert at around midnight, there was some bouncer looking guy by the elevators, we had to prove we were guests there.
The next morning, we got a knock on the door at 9am from housekeeping, she said “oh, you’re still here, when are you leaving? ”
… checkout is at noon.
Honestly, this hotel is classist. We are a young couple, with quite a bit of tattoos, and we were treated like second class citizens, treated rudely by almost all of the staff there, while everyone else was doted on.
Safe to say we will not be returning.
Great view of the city. The rooftop is nice. The service was good, and friendly.
The night manager Mathew Randall is incredibly rude and unwilling to help. We had an issue with Expedia and his immediate response was that he won’t help us and that it was our fault, he didn’t even look up our booking only after going back and forth did he attempt to even look it up. I am completely shocked and have never experienced such terrible service.
The customer service that’s second to none, Jennie in the front desk has been amazing from the hello! Infinity roof pool top, the suite, the bar are amazing! This will only be my hotel from here on!
Great location and rooms. Check out the pool on the rooftop and the views of the CN Tower.
Nice, trendy diner with a very friendly staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our drinks, the crispy fried chicken and the vanilla, maple milk shake with vodka. Definitely a go to place.
Was totally impressed with the view from our room as well as the people employed. It really topped off our stay in Toronto and the decor made for some great pics!
Amazing rooftop and service. Definitely one of my fave places. One of the best views of Toronto's skyline food and drinks are awesome.
I just spent one of the best weekend getaways I have ever had. The suite was incredible. A cozy king size bed that you can spend hours in along with an amazing view of the city, and a luxurious bathroom with heated marble floors, dyson hair dryer, rainfall shower, and most especially the large soaking tub where you can take the best bubble baths ever! It was just what I needed. And I am definitely planning to come back again for another getaway hopefully sooner than later. Again, really amazing ❤️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Liz, a manager here provided expentional service and made our experience at the Thompson extra memorable. Will return just to see her again. Her smile and kindness is contagious and both her and our server went above and beyond in the restaurant. The hotel stay as a whole was amazing. Will be back.
Staff at Front Desk were always polite and helpful. Often staff open main door for you which is quite pleasing. I had a King Suite. Room had good amenities, bar stocked fridge, snacks and other in room items to purchase of needed. Nice touch but way overpriced. ($65 candle…? ) There were not enough electrical outlets in the room and the one beside the bed only worked for the lamp. Head to keep my phone clock on the desk vs beside me. There also was not enough lighting at all. Very dark room even with curtain open. When I checked out I requested late check out to 1pm. But the room cleaners kept knocking at my door since 8am every hour. I was not happy being so rudely woken because that information never made it to their cleaning staff. After 6 nights of long meetings and events I was really looking forward to sleep in on my last day. That didn't happen. Otherwise a nice hotel, closer to EVERWHERE I wanted to go.
The food here is great, and the rooftop bar has a great view. My room had a breathtaking view of the city. The room was nice and spacious with a well designed restroom. The location is right off Bathurst and steps away from King St. West. Great location, close to restaurants, shopping and nightlife. Service was great, let be the lobby. Highly recommend staying here.
Was here for a business presentation in the main lobby. All the staff were very helpful helping us set up chairs and making sure our presentation slides were working properly on the screen. Went to the diner after too and the food was great! Their menu is pretty versatile.
The Thompson has become my go to hotel in Toronto. Excellent location near King St. W. Modern and spacious rooms. Outstanding staff. One of the best rooftop bars with great views. Very good casual dining.
Very classy hotel. Great rooms, great bathrooms. Amazing staff from the front reception to every service person we ran into. They went to the extra mile at every opportunity.
I was a former steward. The hotel and people are best. The chief (mark) is one of the best I ever seen if there is 7 star I give him 7 star. He changed everything. Because of him I stayed there. Some staff's tried to abuse me because I am black. Including the s. Chafe I don't wanna mention his name because he knows what he did. Its to hard to leave this work place with out saying good bye to my best friends. God bless you for those who showed me a respect from my day 1 until end. I appreciate.
The hotel looks pretty upscale and I love the lobby. I personally did not stay in the hotel, just came for an event tonight held here. The washrooms are fancy but dark… the lighting is just not enough and I literally needed to use the flashlight on the phone I have for my make-up touchup. The bartender charged me $13 for a 250ml glass Rum and Coke drink with lots of ice! It had only 1 shot of rum! I was stunned. The most I've paid for a drink like that is $10 tops (without the tip… I count that as a separate thing). Of course, I did tip the bartender but I've never had to pay that much for a Rum and Coke before…
Epic place to stay. Everything was just perfect and unbelievable. Wonderful beds, great food. Awesome stay. The club POPS on Sunday nights. It's awesome.

We came here for my friend's birthday. The bottle service was good and the staff were friendly. The crowd was young and professional. The venue was nice as well. Overall it was a good night.

Hotel is modern and very clean. Well located for walking to many restaurants and bars. Underground parking is not included and costly. Nice top view lounge for pre or post dinner drinks.
Stayed there for 3 nights as a business trip. The hotel is really good and had some awesome entertainment opportunities such as rooftop terrace/bar/pool. Very welcoming staff!
As a patron of the most luxurious hotels and lounges in Toronto, I have to say that I was absolutely shocked at the level of service and treatment that I received. Not only had our group spent well over $8, 000 for an engagement party, but we also received a glass that was broken around the rim — something that easily could have led to an emergency situation should someone have swallowed glass. The manager comped us on food which is a far cry from what should have been done and also also if someone was injured. To make matters worse, the attendants rarely brought glasses and mixers — other places in Toronto are light years ahead of these folks in terms of service. I certainly would not bring C level clients here nor would I friends for a special occasion. Bottomine, terrible service in comparison to other options in Toronto. The staff and servers are not congruent with the Brand they attempt to portray. Great view, but there are other great views in Toronto that will provide the level of service you respect.
Vista desde el lounge bar en el rooftop del thompson hotel.
Nice trendy hotel located in one of my favorite areas in Toronto. Close to many restaurants and shops. Fun area to walk around. The roof top bar has a wonderful view of the city and the CN tower!
We had our wedding here and couldn’t have asked for a better place! The staff was wonderful extremely accommodating and helpful with any concerns they have! Every person at my wedding talked about how great the food was and the hotel rooms are gorgeous!
Nice hotel. Clean, modern with friendly staff. Parking guidance could be better: the valet option is expensive. We used public garage parking about 7 mins walk away. Check out the attached Diner: good food at reasonable prices and opened late.
Swanky. Rooftop bar is small but nice. The rooms are spacious, clean, and well equipped. It could use more of a home like decor to add comfort for travelers.
Great service! Ideal location. Love the rooms with the large windows! Bathrooms are amazing!
Visited the lobby bar for a quick drink with a business colleague. The bartender was very helpful and made me a great Sazerac! NIce atmosphere.
Very good hotel, good location, excellent service, good bed, pleasant room.
Wow! Thank you so much Samantha and staff at the Thompson! We had such a stunning and phenomenal surprise proposal on the Rooftop last weekend. The coordination and help from the staff was just outstanding. The servers were so attentive and caring for our evening and we just had such a blast. Truly, thank you so much for making the evening so special.
The Good: Exquisite dining experience on the top floor. The Great: An impeccable view of all of Toronto. I have never seen such an illuminated view of the city. The Critique: The food in their diner downstairs, is severely overpriced in relation to their food quality.
This place will have a place in my heart forever. It was my first time staying over and my boyfriend (now fiance) planned the best intimate proposal ever. He had been in contact with the staff at the hotel for a whole week and I love how the staff was in on the whole surprise. Apart from all of this, the hotel stay was amazing. The rooftop lounge has the best view in the city. Loved every minute of my stay here.
Beautiful hotel with an amazing view of the city. The roof top goes off with a DJ and an awesome party atmosphere. There is a bar on the roof top and a very cool looking swimming pool. This hostel also has a night club which is excellent check out for a good time,
Great ambiance, and contemporary room design. However the room seemed a little tired, some of the trim has been broken off before and sloppily glued together, the table had chipped paint and it looked like the floor had some water damage, not what you'd expect in a more premium "superior" room. We did enjoy their rooftop bar with the stunning views. And the breakfast room service arrived promptly (15min), the food was tasty and they did accommodate dietary restrictions with some custom off menu items.
Amazing! My go to breakfast place to bring all out of town guests. Kinda bummed about the brunch burger being taken off the menu. But the diner is still a staple in my world! Five stars ⭐️
Room was lovely and bright. Staff attentive and polite. Delicious croissants! Mains all arrived cold — congealed bernaise on eggs.
The bed was bad. It's not like it says to be so good.
Nicely appointed hotel, with a "cool", young person friendly vibe. Suite was decent, but there were hints of it being cheaply renovated all over the place and the elevator were such a headache.
Chic space. Sitting area is spacious and comfortable. Beautiful accent furniture that makes the space look huge. Lobby is connected to the diner, bar, and a small room (private/ vip space) The receptionist are very polite and professional.
I found the overall experience of hotel to be very very good. The only thing that I did not enjoy about my stay and it was a social event is the bathroom attendant. The gentleman was very nice and helpful but the concept of bathroom attendants is uncomfortable it was a sentiment that was expressed by several people at the party.
I have stayed with a resident many times this year. The rooftop bar/restaurant and pool has a spectacular view! The hotel bar is a great place to grab a drink to unwind or start your night. I haven't been there when it turns into a club but have heard great things.
This property is my exact definiton of "laidback luxury"! You are instantly welcomed with a fun, young vibe — with music playing outside as you pull into the hotel. Great friendly staff welcoming you, next to a stylish looking Lobby Lounge Bar. I stayed in an Executive Suite and it was huge! Tasteful decor, a kitchen, dining table and living room area. An incredibly comfy King Bed and a stunning bathroom! The property is like a mini resort in itself which I wasn't expecting — several different dining options, bars and nightclub all connected to the hotel. The rooftop bar is definitely a highlight with incredible views of the Toronto skyline and lake, complete with an infinity pool! This hotel is definitely a hot spot with a young, "cool" crowd. The food was delicious in the Lobby Lounge and they had a nice drink selection in both that bar and the rooftop!
This hotel has some very nice things going for it. The lobby and bar and rooms are modern and nice. The problem is that not much thought was put in to usability. The bathrooms do not have separate switches for the toilet, sink, and shower, which are all separated. This is horrible given that the wall separating the shower from the room allows light to go through. I brought my wife and baby to a conference, and when I woke up early, I had to go to the bathroom and shower with my cell phone flashlight to avoid lighting up the entire room and waking my baby up. Also, the phone in the bathroom is so badly placed that I knocked it out the hook on to the floor several times on accident. This is made worse by the fact that the bathroom noises go through to the bedroom very well. Not only does that mean you have no privacy with noise, but the falling phone nearly woke my baby up a couple times. We had a good time in Toronto, but the room want nearly as nice as it should be.
Came here for a private social event. Rooftop was amazing! Plenty of comfy booths and chairs. Pool looks great but it was closed. Excellent service. Overall great place to host private parties.
The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. We loved the room and thought it was super trendy and clean. They came in while we were out and closed our blinds too. Unfortunately, we went for the rooftop and pool, which was actually a club. It was packed and the music was way too loud. We didn't last long enough to enjoy the view. Great location too!
Very poorly managed. I brought my best friend's bachelorette party here enjoy the rooftop patio for cocktails after dinner. I had called in advance and was told to just walk in, no reservation required. When we arrived, security would not allow one of our guests to enter due to "dress code" (white shoes). We were also told that a reservation was in fact required and the person that I spoke with on the phone was not even there. Ruined our entire evening!
My friends hosted their wedding there and the location was beautiful. The service we received from the coordinators was great. The food was good as well.
We have attended a rooftop party at this hotel. After spending a lot of money for bottle service and a private boot when I went downstairs to get my friend, even though I was wearing my bracelet, the bouncer did not let me back in. Instead he started behaving violently and even pushed me back. I finally forced to ask the Police to help me to go upstairs just to get my belongings and leave the place with my wife. These people are so rude and disrespectful. The management acted so rude and unprofessional. I really do not recommend this place If you are willing to have a peaceful night with your friends. This was the first time in my life that I saw such behavior.
No costumer service, unprofessional staff. On Friday August 25th, we reserved the VIP booths, and we came done for smoke, the front staff refused us to get In to our table again with out any explanation, and I have been removed aggressively by two white bouncer for no reason, I was just looking to speak to the manager, they had my visa card, my personal belongings such as my cellphone and my valet was in the rooftop, and no one was allowing me to get them. I have never experienced this before in my life. So disappointed, I have left several messages to Mr. Waterman head manager of Thompson hotel, no response as of yet. Very poor costumer service.
Check in was easy, although the lobby was under renovation. Valet parking was easy and quick, retrieval only took literally a minute. Room was clean. The cleaning staff woke me up at 8:30 in the morning the next day. She kept on banging on the door and when I approached the door she just blurted out she was just checking if I checked out. Not good. The card key is cumbersome as it needs to be inserted every time in the elevator. It's 2017. NFC is the only way to go. Overall the stay was above average.
Great place to stay. The front desk staff and valet staff were very friendly — they even give you a phone number to text if you need anything. Views are spectacular from the rooftop — you can walk around the entire roof. The room was good — not a lot of lighting but enough at the desk and bedside to suit our needs. Bathroom was awesome — heated tiled floors and a separate toilet. I wish more was included in the rate since it's very high, but all in all a great stay.
This is the second time I stay in Toronto. My boyfriend and I want to go to the rooftop bar, so we ask the reception, and that guy looks at my boyfriend with disrespectful eyes for 5 seconds and said: um, no, you can't go up like this. (I was wearing dress, heels with designer bag and my bf was wearing smart casual) Although we were like "what? ", we said "alright, thanks. " instead. But then he looks at his coworker in a way that I can feel he despises my boyfriend — he is either racist or look down on us. Will not go to this place again & I will not recommend to anyone. Maybe the view is good, but the service is the worst.
This was my second visit to the Thompson Toronto. My first visit was late summer of 2016 and I came away with two thoughts from the visit. The hotel was very cool but the service was very below average. My checked in luggage took more than a hour to get to my room & the car valet parking took a half hour to retrieve. I read reviews and it seemed like a common complaint most people had. I enjoyed the physical space and its proximity to Toronto's nightlife enough, that I decided to come back for a second visit. I'm happy to say that the service was not only better but exceptional this time around. The guy doing the car valet was an extremely welcoming fellow and the front desk was charming. I came away with no complaints about the service. As a whole, The Thompson Toronto will make you feel cool for staying there and for that reason I'll be returning on future trips to Toronto.
High 360 View Rooftop lounge bar with a 360 degree view of the city and a swimming pool with patio. Inside Out film festival had its Goodbye Again party with DJ's and crowd of maybe 200+ drinking and dancing. The gay village on Church Street with its clubs have nothing comparable so it was quite the luxurious experience for one night in such an elevated sky view location. Lots of cool air from the height but fire torches on the patio provided some warmth outdoors to people lounging and talking while inside people danced and stood talking near the bar. No one used the pool but maybe when Summer heats up…
Was there shooting a wedding. Great venue. Great staff. The view of toronto and the Rooftop pool is they key to this place.
Quite expensive, but the hotel is nice. The staff is very professional and accommodating. Their rooftop patio bar is one of the best in the city.
Thomoson hotel was great with good service and a nice room. We stayed at the hotel as part of a Bachelorette party and meeting your friends at wildflower where they ordered a booth. However, the bouncer was rude and denied us for no good reason. He was on a power trip and ruined the whole night. He was a black man wearing a beany hat. And I've never been treated with such disrespect in my life.
Impeccable service & hospitality… There was some riff raff next door at 330am but the staff kindly squashed it and changed our room as well. Great neighborhood w lots going on but slightly tucked away.
Customer service was amazing! It was my anniversary and they left a complimentary bottle of champagne in the room with a voucher for drinks in the rooftop lounge. The room was clean and well kept. Very modern feel. Will definitely be coming back. Location is perfect.
Very loud hotel good for young trendy people working in fashion art design Orrible Terribleeeeeee corridor at the floor.
The Thompson Hotel, apart of a large network off hotels providing an upscale downtown hotel living experience. Providing a premium night life environment complete with dining and lobby bar cocktails to unwind or begin your night. Located in the heart of the city, the Thompson Hotel allows direct access to many of the various sights and points of interest located in and around the downtown area.
I wanted to like it more. When I got there, I walked up to an abandoned door — though when I walked in there were a number of associates standing behind desks in the lobby (which was under renovation, so it wasn't much of a lobby area). I walked up to the front desk and they just kind of stared at me — so I said Hi, I'm here to check-in, to which they said sure, what's your name — I got my key so they did their job, but it all felt awkward like I was disturbing something. My room looked nothing like the photos online (308 — I'd advise asking for something else if they assign it to you) — it was just a long entryway with a very small bedroom area that had a king bed and a chair in front of it — an awkward design. I don't believe the room was the advertised 480 sq ft. The third floor also had some renovation going on, so the floors were dirty in the hallway and some of the doors had tape and wires coming out. I tried visiting the fitness center at night, but the door was locked, and the front desk was confused when I called down about it. If I had received a room like the photo & description, a smile & hello at welcome and access to the gym at night, I probably would have ranked it a 4 or 5 instead of a 3.
Got a great deal here on hotwire. Really liked the design of the room and the hotel in general. Weirdly my room smelt a little stale, almost like a faint smokey smell. But I would return as overall I liked it.
Drinks were good, the bottle service placement was poor as it was in arm's length of another booth. The music was great, and just enough room to dance. There is a lot of stairs and getting to the washrooms and outside can get tedious. Overall good experience.
The hotel, while very clean, contemporary and stylish, cannot be compared to hotels like the Four Seasons, St Regis or Intercontinental. I'd definitely stay again.
Went to the club in the basement. Good atmosphere, easy to get drinks and great music. Not a bad option for a night out.
I stayed in room 701. The staff were very nice and helpful and the rooms were everything I wanted for the night. I was worried that having the room in front of the elevator was going to disturb me several times through the night but that wasnt the case.
The drinks there were disgusting. I tried few on the menu n they tasted old and dirty. Anyone watch bar rescue? They need them.
The staff is unorganized. Too much delay for any services. Don't go here. Go somewhere else if you wanna have a good time.
Rooftop pool was great, rooms were great, customer service was absolutely, shockingly pathetic. The physical hotel is what you would expect for the price tag, however, the service we received is what you'd expect from a motel at the side of a freeway.
If you want to sleep with the roar of luxury cars in your room or all customers the rooftop when it closes, then this is for you. If not… run away! Luxury is only apparent in this hotel, the rooms are poorly insulated and the lights turn on for no reason at night. Certainly the pool has a nice view but that is all you will find at Thompson! This hotel is worthy of a road hotel for spoiled children. Moreover the staff is haughty and the quality of service is deplorable. In conclusion, that was the worst hotel I ever seen.
Stunning rooftop view doesn't excuse abysmal service. Over an hour to fill simple food order, without so much as an apology. If pathetic service is what you are looking for this is the place for you.
This is very sad to say but the worst experience and service I have had in the hotel in Toronto. I went to the rooftop bar in the hotel and the bartender (Skinhead with beard) wasn't really nice and gave me a wine which was not I asked and charged it with a wrong price… And, he gave the friend for a free drinks couple of times. It was no nice to watch that happening in front of me. The hotel itself is nice and pretty. But, I think the hotel should be nicer than I expected and I was very disappointing by the people who work there…
Rooflounge is the best in the city.
Ugh. Music was ok at the downstairs bar but not great upstairs. Drinks are way overpriced and the crowd. No one seems to go there to have a good time. People are too busy standing around looking at everyone and watching for who is looking at them (basically, a venue filled with overrated attention seekers). The people and the place are boring and unoriginal. Some of the hostesses are completely unprofessional and dress like tramps. One of the female bartenders stood around playing a one-woman bouncing game with her breasts for everyone's attention. Not fun at all. Typical Toronto nonsense and pretension.
Jersey Shore for the Toronto scene. Stayed here twice, once for one night, once for three, summer staycations each time. The place wants to be hip so badly it reeks of incivility and mannerless employees lording over youngsters who are ignorant and insecure enough to overpay for substandard services. The rooms are small but updated and clean. The food at the sushi restaurant is good-to-great as long as you don't order sashimi — you'll get the salmon belly that real sushi restaurants do not serve — this is another clue that the clients of this hotel just don't know quality, and the hotel and its affiliated facilities know they do not have to deliver it to them. The security that is just everywhere after 7pm is crass and give hotel patrons a hard time if they try to go to the patio, to the elevators, basically anywhere.
Wow! What can I say? This was THE worst hotel I've ever stayed in! Nothing even comes close! It's over-priced, the staff are rude, the 'club' is full of prostitutes and wannabe's. I wouldn't let my worst enemy stay here! Please, do yourself the favour and just stay away.
They took down my photo this is censorship by the rich.
Worst hotel experience ever! We stayed there for a bachelorette party and after spending almost $500 for my room I noticed the following day that they had pre-authorized an additional $600 on my credit card without my knowledge or approval. The stay itself was sub par at best. The level of service is lacking. We had been in contact with the hotel about our bachelorette party for months before the event and on the day of we "enjoyed" a crowded and TINY pool and got turned away from the rooftop lounge because we didn't have stamps after having already waited 20 minutes just to catch an elevator up there. Horrible service, just OK room and decor and simply unprofessional behaviour. I am not impressed and will never stay there again. I suggest you save your money and do the same. This is just another pretentious over-priced venue in Toronto.
My boyfriend and I booked this hotel that was out of our price range only because we wanted a mini vacation after taking a much needed day off. We had heard and seen pictures of the rooftop bar, pool and the view! Looked amazing. We went all out and got the king suite because we never take any time off and it was supposed to be awesome. It wasn't. Upon arrival, we find out that the view, the pool and the rooftop bar are closed that night to anyone not in the private party upstairs. Already on the verge of tears, we get to our very average room and have a not very nice industrial view. I guess the pictures online were taken from the other side of the hotel? The giant McDonalds billboard was a lovely romantic touch. We had a couple $16 drinks downstairs in the lounge (saw someone with a prostitute leave and come back in 10 minutes) and decided to stay positive and go up to the nice bathroom, have a tub and relax. Only to find out our tub is broken and won't stop draining. My boyfriend tries to salvage the night and calls to get it fixed. Two men in suits come quickly and tell us that the engineer will be up shortly. Someone else in a suit comes and asks us if we're okay. "Yes, we're okay", my boyfriend replies. As we were, the engineer was apparently on his way to come in and fix it.
Definitely my go-to spot when I stay in Toronto, great rooms, friendly staff and killer rooftop terrasse.
