Good clean room! day staff were very slow especially in the Bar. But night staff seemed to be more on the ball. Cleaning staff very thorough. Location was good. Week end flat rate parking across the road. For $11.00. Queen Vic Market is just around the corner. Walking distance to CBS Docklands and southern cross station.

Great lobby and chill area, but bathrooms and bedrooms could use an update. Slept in a girls-dorm with 4 electric outlets for the whole room, which already got used for 2 fans. Good for a few nights but wouldn’t recommend staying here for a while.

Beware if you are currently booked into room 507… worst snoring I've encountered during my time in Melbourne, and that's saying something! Not only did this person snore very loudly, but would also make high pitched moans while they slept — very hard to get any decent nights sleep. Generally not a hostel for peace and quiet… bar on ground floor very loud at night, not many quiet areas to relax. Not recommended for light sleepers.

Just disgusting customer service. The lift hardly ever works and the staff have never heard of an apology. Trying to extend my stay and have been told I have to move to another room in the floor below (lift is broken, of course) paid more for the room and it is far far worse. No toilet or shower in the room, roller blind is broken, windows are filthy, it's much smaller and there is no bed available. Don't know what's going on and I'm getting tired of climbing up and down 5 floors of stairs. Could not recommend a worse place to stay. Ants in the rooms, dirty floors, even though cleaners come every morning they apparently do nothing but disturb your sleep. My card to the top floor stopped working as I was moving my things and after repeatedly mishearing me (without realising or caring) no apology was offered and instead I'm told not to be aggressive. Will be leaving as soon as possible, it would be right now but they have a highly illegal "no refund policy".

Great prices, great vibe and overall nice environment. Love the free breakfast waffles. Room was clean and tidy — will definately be back if visiting Melbourne again.

Good hostel in general. The staff were very friendly and comfortable. There is no privacy between one bed and the other but nothing of that. Fair prices to be in Melbourne and pretty downtown.

I stayed three days at this hostel and enjoyed every minute there. It was in my room, on the roof terrace, in the outdoor area or at the in-house bar. There is absolutely nothing to complain about. For a hostel in the middle of a city it is really ideal and has everything you need.
Also the staff was super friendly and helpful.

For the price it was good. The cheaper alternatives aren't worth it. Atmosphere is great with events most nights. Definitely geared towards travellers in their twenties.

Stayed in full 4 girls room.   In the middle of the night 4-5 a. M. An unknown girl and guy entered our locked room. The girl climbed into a bed already occupied by my sleeping roommate, thereby waking all of us. After us repeatedly saying that they were in the wrong room they left — only to return five minutes later trying to get into bed with us. Management were no help at all, not even apologising for it, saying that it was "part of the hostel experience. " When I reiterated that random people getting in twice through a locked door to which they should not have a key to, they never replied. No sort of refund/discount was offered nor any offer to change rooms. Won't ever return to any Nomad establishment.

A budget hotel with good hubicacion.

The music at the reception counter was very noisy and forced you to download an app before you checked in. Inside a pile of things to fill, feel a capital insecure, the first step let people disgusted, not simple check-in procedures, room is very general, a bit old old, carpet feeling also old and dirty, no slippers to wear, shower room is very small, Not even a corner of the toilet to put the small table, shower design of the seat is also a long strange, more disgusting is, after taking a bath to see how there is unknown black slag residue, carefully look, only to find the groove in the shower, in your side of the bath also washed out, the room is not air-conditioned appearance, although not stuffy, but also not cool, There is a fan for you to use, but the fan is very dirty, blowing the sound is very loud, the room is the only trash in the toilet, the quilt feeling is old, do not know if there has been washed, so to more than 100, really expensive and not worth, I a star do not want to give!

Terrible service. Made a booking for five people to stay in a six person room. Called ahead to confirm over the phone that if we booked out the room for five that we would all be together in the same room. Was told if we paid in full through the website we would be together. They could not help or take bookings over the phone at all. So that's what we did. The reception desk on arrival day was closed from 11am — 2pm. Tried to find someone so we could confirm our booking and ask about the handicap entrance as you needed a card to use it. We had a party member who needed the handicap entrance and one of the reasons we chose Nomads at the time is because the website said it was wheelchair accessible. We did eventually find a team leader in the manger's office who refused to answer any questions until after 2pm. Arrived back after 2pm and was told we would not be together. We were split between different 6 people rooms and not the five of us in a room for 6 people with the possibility of having a sixth person join us as we were told would happen over the phone. We pointed out our printed booking confirmation clearly said we had 'a five person booking in a six bed room'. The staff said that while we were not together, as we had been told prior to booking and what our confirmation said, because we were each at least in six bed rooms that is all that mattered. It didn't matter that we were spread out among multiple rooms.

Beds are nice. Clean showers. Adequate kitchen. Bar and general atmosphere was really quiet though hard to meet people.

Good for a late beer in a friendly backpacker hostel. Pleasant bar staff and a couple of popular pool tables. Outside smoking area too.

The hostel is clean and the beds are comfortable. The best thing on my stay were the free Pancakes in the morning. The kitchen might not be big enough for all the guests, but that's how you get in touch with different people :) I can recommend it, had a great stay!

Very nice backpacker, clean and well maintained. The staff are super friendly. A large communal kitchen and refrigerators invite you to cook. For breakfast there are pancakes with maple syrup free of charge. Very close to the center and yet a bit away. Highly recommended is the in-house bar.

Relatively cheap. Clean. Close city. Free walking tour is very nice. They serve free pancakes every morning. But alcohol is not allowed.

Couldn't have asked for more. Free Wi-Fi, clean rooms, accessible kitchen, great lounge and outdoor area and the friendliest staff. My partner and I will be looking out for other Nomads hostels when we travel New Zealand, and highly recommend to our fellow travel buddies. They provide free pasta, rice, tea and coffee which was super helpful for our travelling budget. They also do free pancakes in the morning! The lady who served us also worked at the travel desk, she was really friendly and gave us great information about trips they had on offer around Victoria and along the East Coast… she also made delicious pancakes! Unfortunately their bar is closed at the moment, but the staff at reception gave us great suggestions on where to go out for drinks. The hostel is in a cracking location — so close to everything! It's right next to the Queen Vic Markets where we went for lunch on the recommendation of the staff, best boreks I've ever had! Special mention to the manager Jonnie, who went out of his way to answer all our questions about the city and all our queries about public transport. He checked us in and then remember our names, would always ask us how we were going and what we were up to. It really felt like we were being looked after and cared for. Thanks for a wonderful stay, Nomads! We will be back! :)

Clean and nice backpackers. Very welcoming staff and free pancakes in the morning. Kitchen is very small and needs an overhaul, since some appliances are not working properly.

The hotel was very clean.
The rooms, showers and toilets were extremely dirty.
The rooms did not have ventilation or fans, the air was unimaginably bad and it was unaushaltbar hot, could not sleep at all. Have changed the room since it was some masses acceptable with the air, but has stunk and was extremely dirty. Was never cleaned. Costs everything in addition.
Staff was OK.

Nomads is a great hostel. I've been there when the bar was operational also, and it was a blast — can't wait til it's back! I was here for professional reasons and got to experience their cinema room, great addition that most hostels don't have 5/5 Also this Georgia girl at reception kept smiling at me, she seemed really nice…

Worst hostel I've ever been to! Wi-Fi only from 7am to 7pm. Room and shower very dirty.
Impossible to slack because it is too hot in the room (no air conditioning) and stuffy.
no hostel mood.
No further recommended.

The advantages are cheap, convenient transportation in the city center, free muffins in the morning, but also clean, the shortcomings of the room is really small, laundry room baking machine drying clothes, food public space is too crowded.

It's nice and cozy, need improvement in bathroom. Staff ok. Overall good value for money.

No locker in the room, 2 plugs for 8 beds. The beds get realy noise if some moves on it.

I checked out and left my bags in the storage room, along with a box with some groceries. When I came back to get everything I found my food was gone and was told it had been thrown away because they're not meant to keep food in that room. There was a staff member present when I left my bags and he didn't mention this. I understand there might be health & safety reasons for not keeping food there but I think throwing 50+ dollars worth of food in the bin is just not the right way to deal with this, especially when it was clearly labeled with my name and room number. The staff didn't seem to care too much about it.

Worst! Completely ruined my holiday mood. Price is okay but the customer services and the room is sucks. Also the room's insulation is too bad.

The hostel in general is very clean, tidy and comfortable. Great backpackers atmosphere and friendly staff. But the breakfast and the Wi-Fi were very disappointing. The Wi-Fi was very slow and with limited time til 7pm, after that you must pay.

Location is good; just a short walk to mai part of the city. Rooms were ok for a hostel. Service was ok for a hostel.

Facilities are very clean and tidy. Benefits are awesome (like free pasta and pancakes) and the location is great also. The only bad thing is that ppl party in theyr rooms after hours, so that can be a bit anoying.

I stayed here for 5 days and found it to be quite good. There is also a pub downstairs and pool tables. The only problems I had were I had to wait until 2PM to check in to my room and secondly when I first went to check in they could not find my name and The Indian fellow behind the jump said I was lying and he was going to turn me away. I ended up saying to him "You really think I'd fly all the way from Sydney without making a booking and just do this all for some big laugh? ".

Dirty room, smells. Clean sheets and comfortable bed. Check in was easy. Bar seems fun.

Absolutely love this place. The staff is overly kind, it's very clean, great music and entertainment every night. My bed was comfortable and the bathrooms and showers are all seperate and clean. Great vibe for backpackers, good atmosphere. Highly recommend it!

Better than the bad reviews. This hostel is honestly pretty good. It's got a really sick bar downstairs with heaps of activities so you can meet everyone. The outside decking is also a really nice touch! Yeah the Kitchen is quite small, but they have food on in the bar and there's heaps of affordable restaurants around — plus the Queen Vic Market! The rooms are pretty good — it really depends on your room mates I reckon. I noticed over my stay the bathrooms were getting much better each day, so it's nice to know that the managers read reviews and keep on top of them! The staff were really friendly whenever I dealt with them too. All in all, my expectations were exceeded.

I had a large room, front Desk was always friendly and very close / in the city.

Just a note to say a big thank you to BC in the admin for assisting with my rooming, also the staff at the counter from the Netherlands. I have NO hesitation in recommending NOMAD's for your stay in Melbourne. One is close to the Queen Vic markets, a short walk to La Trobe st to catch the FREE tram around the CBD and catch the sights of Melb. The rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable, and a little icing on the cake, so to say, FREE pancakes with maple syrup for breakfast. All in all an enjoyable stay, seeing I've been there twice B4.

I booked and paid for 4nts online (hostelworld) whilst standing at tge reception desk in a 6 bed for $36 a night as it was $2 a night cheaper. I woke up after 1nt to find out its down to $29 a night for the rest of my stay! I was told Nomads offer a NO refund policy & rates change hourly so deal with it basically! Booking & paying in advance the day before had me loosing out $21! After taking myself to find the manager due to reception not willing to be polite never mind helpful, I was offered to swap to a 4 bed dorm for 2nts to get 'value for money' or be provided a credit voucher for Nomads. Based on my experience I don't fancy staying at another Nomads in fear of being ripped off or having to move all my stuff half way through my stay to another room / level. Either way Nomads keep the money and cash in from the backpackers. The kitchen is way too small for the amount of travellers, lots of flies, no outside windows, full of dirty utensils & food was all over the place as well as being stolen. No daily breakfast offered compared to other hostels at the same cost or cheaper! If you time your stay right then you can have just 2 mini free pancakes on Tues & Thurs. If you make your own food then the only places to eat are in the small lobby area at reception, the bar or outside in the car park out the back! Wi-Fi is only free in the lobby from 8am — 8pm. Each day they change the password.

Highs: Good location — close to Victoria Market and pretty well located for other areas of the city; half the staff are okay and friendly — most notable the young, european guy. Bad: Filthy bedrooms — cramped beds, dirty floors, rubbish from the previous guests everywhere, and a filthy shower room; no toilet paper or cleaned bathrooms; kitchen wasn't great, and certainly not big enough for the volume of guests; unbearably rude manager (I think) — the older English lady — and a couple of others with a members with attitudes; and constant internet problems, coupled with the fact it isn't free from 7 am — 7 pm — the codes are unveiled as and when managers start, which is sporadic. Not great value at all in the end.

Came in last monday evening 26/10 and the first thing I saw was a really modern hostel. When I wanted to check-in there was nobody at the reception desk. After 5 minutes waiting, a girl who was playing on her phone, saw me and came to the reception desk. She wasn't really friendly or helpfull so my first experience with the staff was not good. My room was okay, small, without lockers but clean and cosy. The beds were fine and the night was quiet. The next morning we got a free 'wake-up call' from someone who was screaming trough the microphone that everyone has to come down to checkout… After this I couldn't sleep anymore so I started my day bad. I want downstairs and got some free pancakes, which was a good service. After this I checked the kitchen and this was the MOST HORRIBLE HOSTEL KITCHEN EVER! The kitchen is really small and dirty. They clean it only 3 times a day… There are only three or four plates in the kitchen, which is, of course, to less for such an hostel. The grounds and walls were also dirty and the bins weren't changed. They also promiss free pasta and rice, but in my two days here, they have never had any pasta… We Italians really like cooking but I decided to get some take away food cause I didn't want to make my food in such an dirty area… Thuesday in the evening the bar was really quiet, there should be an 'mexican fiesta' and trivia quiz, but it looked like there was a funeral.

Staff were great, very friendly and willing to help with anything. Beds and rooms were fine and comfortable. However, the bathrooms were atrocious. Someone had spewed everywhere in one and it took a very long time to get it cleaned. Toilet seat and faucet were broken. Showers had rubbish and hair in it and never cleaned. And there was only toilet paper in 1/3 toilets at a time and weren't replenished or checked enough. If the cleanliness of those were bought up to a decent standard it would be a really good and cheap place to stay. I know it's a backpackers but some that stay there should be respectful to others and clean up their mess.

Had a double room for a couple of nights, with our own toilet and shower, thank god for that, we thought all facilities is quite dirty (toilets, kitchen, fridges (! ) ). Although everything is very modern, could be a really good hostel, must be slacky staff/managment (? ). This is grown ups living here, treat the place like that, maybe? On the plus side, supernice sheets, and clean room. And good/cheap bar downstairs. Place has potential and its getting worn down causr of how its treated.
