Enjoyed the food and staff were really friendly.

The Hotel offers a lovely dining room with professional and friendly staff, great food and wine — the wonderful, comfortable accommodation completed the package — highly recommended.

Amazing three course meal we had for a date night. The Kangaroo entrees was delicious! My partner had the Barramundi and I had the Porterhouse Steak as a main — both were absolutely magnificent 😋. For dessert my my partner had the Key-Lime Pie and I had the Tart — so delish! It was such a pleasant night out, with excellent and attentive service. Thank you Chad for the beautiful drink selections — can't wait to be back!

Strange going to The Cri with so few people there but it was kinda nice to almost feel we were in a private dining room. The food was magnificent, especially the bomb Alaska. Fantastic service: a great dinner. Thank you.

Very expensive. Had fish and salad which was covered in a very oily dressing that made the salad uneatable. The pavlova dessert was as hard as a rock not like a pavlova should be. My fellow diners had the brownie which was more like fudge. It was disappointing.

Great country hotel. Excellent place to dine but do book as the restaurant is extremely popular with the locals. Beautifully renovated rooms. Super friendly staff. I would happily stay at the Criterion again. Keep up the good work!

No gravy! Why do they charge $2 difference on scooners on tap! Slow service waited over 40 mins for an overcooked dry Parma that I could not finish! Not recommended should have gone somewhere else. $27 for a Parma!

Consistently delicious, beautiful decor, and, in my experience, staff that care about your experience, be it the cleaner or the owners, and everyone in between.

Service that is second to none. Warm, friendly genuine, no request is a hassle and you leave feeling like you’ve made new friends. The food is amazing! As good as anything you would find in Melbourne!

We had a set menu and found it extremely expensive for what you got. The wait staff were also rude and we felt like an inconvenience to them. Because of covid we weren’t allowed bar service but most of the night our glasses were empty and we had to wait a long time to ask for another drink. We couldn’t have our steak cooked to our liking only medium and then when it arrived it came with no sauce/gravy, when asked if we could have a sauce with it were told no.
It’s a shame because it used to be my favourite place to eat. Maybe if we didn’t have the set menu it would have been different.

Best parma in Gippsland! Loved that there is also non-alcoholic beers available too. Atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Service was so attentive that I had barely put the last mouthful of food in my mouth before the waitress collected my plate! Overall though, a good experience!

Always a great meal at the Cri, whether it be lunch, dinner, or coffee and dessert. Atmosphere is relaxing, enjoy sitting upstairs on the balcony, and service is always fantastic. Highly recommend a visit to the Cri.

Lovely rooms, compact but well designed and stocked with everything you need. Within walking distance to shops, cafes and the lake/Botanical gardens.

Been here a lot always great food. I always order warm roast salad yummy. But tonight I asked if they had a new chef because not many roast vegies and the vegies I did get were soggy heaps of lettuce but yuk.

Good food and friendly staff. The menu changes quite often which is refreshing. The rooms are comfortable and reasonably priced. Beds are super comfy, better than some 5 star hotels. This place offers the best accommodation in Sale at the moment.

Great feed and some really quality beers and drinks on tap. We stopped in for some afternoon snacks including chips, cheese platters, wines (love the local stuff! ) and Beer. We ended up staying for dinner and having one heck of a meal!

Food was great, I had the steak, competitive pricing too. The library room was a great size with not too much decor. Service was brilliant too.

I had a friend come up from Melbourne and we had a pre James Reyne Show dinner there. She loved the food and l have eaten there many times as a Sale resident. Great food and service, friendly staff and is not the cheapest place to eat in Sale but reasonably priced fir the quality of food you get in a very nice bistro setting.

We initially booked our stay with Samantha who was incredibly helpful and very accomodating to us.
We had a group of 20 who stayed and the rooms were immaculate, looked great, very spacious and super clean.
The manager at the time, Ferg was absolutely fantastic, one of the guests accidentally left minor damage on the wall and the way the issue was handled was very professional by him.
We have been staying in Sale for years and this is the best accomodation Sale has to offer hands down.

My partner and I stopped in here on Friday night and we had a few beers while waiting for a friend to arrive. The place was busy and we were truly surprised at the work ethic of all the bar staff. We didn’t wait more than mere seconds to be served each time we went up to the bar and while 1 staff member was putting our drinks together, other staff were constantly checking to make sure we were being served. We then managed to eat in the bistro. I ordered the kangaroo and I have to say, it is one of the nicest meals I’ve had in a long time. I hope it stays on your menu for a while, as we will be back and forward to Sale for the next few months and I’m already thinking about the next time I can get to eat it. Bloody delicious! A further positive is the bistro staff were friendly, fun and professional. Whatever it is you’re doing with your recruitment process, you need to bottle it up and sell it. We eat out probably 3-4 nights a week in Melbourne, and we rarely encounter the consistent, high level of service we enjoyed at the Criterion Hotel. Will definitely be back! Thank you, Peter.

Had a great early dinner there! Nice Staff, great food, nice selection of wine and beers. Love the decor and highly recommended. Love my eggplants dish. Definately will be back. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Stayed in Sale for three nights and ate each night at The Criterion! Terrific, attentive and friendly service, superb location and lovely restaurant area with great mellow live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Awesome menu and drinks variety. Great vegan and vegetarian options and noticed gluten free options clearly labelled too. The food was fresh and delicious and the desserts incredibly tasty! Would happily return and highly recommend this venue to anyone!

What more can I say about the criterion but amazing in every way beautiful rooms amazing food and spectacular venue for any of your party needs from a special birthday, reunion to a wedding they go above and beyond to make your event that little bit more memorable I can not thank them enough for everything they did for us over the weekend and helped make my special day that little bit more special xx.

New winter menu delicious eggplant chips, (who would have thought) and the Duck Gnocchi was sensational… Hubby loved his Pork as well. We love the friendly personalized service, fabulous creative food & great staff. It never disappoints which keeps us coming back.
