Very poor service on our recent visit, 5 nuggets and 5 chips for our Grandson’s meal. Very disappointed we were not sat in the Steak House as that is a huge part of the dining experience.
Meal was good once we finally received it.
We have enjoyed many dinners at the Steakhouse but this certainly wasn’t one of them.

The most amazing meal that we have had in a very long time. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was lovely. We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

After no option to celebrate our wedding anniversary we purchased the eye fillets and chocolate pudding and cooked it at home. After some trepidation it turned out fantastic and great value. Thank you for making this available as a temporary measure during these crazy times and we look forward to getting back out with you for the full service soon.

Great food including hot meals being hot. Waiting staff were efficient and friendly.

Perfectly cooked steaks, an extensive wine selection combined with local beers and ciders and 1st class service. What's not to love? 11 out of 10!

If you are on a budget, don't bother. Will not allow sharin of meals. Very expensive and rude, sbatched cutlerly away so guest could not share partners food. Unimpressed.

Utterly disappointed! Brought a group of friends from overseas… but was served with steaks that were RAW and COLD inside. We ordered 2 portions of the wagyu steak medium rare. Both were inconsistent, overcooked and tough on the outside, totally undercooked, raw and cold on the inside. We even had to send one of the steaks back? A steakhouse can’t even cook a decent steak? The other eye fillet mignon steak was also disappointing. We had expected that cut to be soft and tender … but it was tough and chewy. I will not recommend this establishment to my friends. Totally insane to pay so much and get such bad quality food. Anyone looking for dinners would probably be better off visiting the 24 hr Macca’s nearby. Totally disappointed and never coming back ever!

My Lordy! Delicious dinner at the steak house. Special shout out to the chocolate pudding! Best dessert I think my partner and I have ever had. Definitely a must when in Mt Gambier!

My family and I ate at the barn last weekend! WOW! I dont know where to start! From the service over the phone to the quality of food, it was all top notch! Best steak I have ever eaten & the most professional, frienly & prompt service! I dont mind paying for great food & service and can’t wait to come back to the barn!

Accommodation was adequate. Plumbing is noisy so pipes squealed in our room when other rooms were showering. Lovely property close to town.

Just stayed at the Barn for 4nights and it is an amazing place. The room was beautiful and the staff were amazing. Went to the steakhouse for tea twice and also was amazing. Would highly recommend The Barn as we loved it. Thank you.

Great spot, but as someone staying only one night, I think I got the rough end of the stick: hot water was in trouble in my bathroom, so shower was invigorating, to say the least, and the room gave onto the road, with truck traffic through the night. I was expecting better, and possibly some empathy from management for the inconvenience.

Easily the best and most modern accommodation in that part of the country. Restaurant a must.

Really surprised by this out of the way gem. Visited here with a friend and my husband and it was so high end I wanted to run away. At the entrance you are greeted by lots of signatures and decorations of famous celebrities and the like so you know it’s going to be expensive! Not so! Between three of us with two having steaks and me having a prawn dish, and including all drinks/wines, it was just over $150 – so reasonable for what it was and incredibly tasty.
The only downside was our server could have been a bit more cheery. This middle-aged lady looked like she didn’t want to be there and spoke to everyone like it too. Not a smile or a query to ask how we liked our food or anything, bordering but not quite on surly. That was the only downer on our visit to this restaurant.
It also has delightful grounds and looks like it would be a fabulous place to stay in the future.

Table for 2 and maybe you review — Vicki and I have had some great steaks over the time, but there is nowhere we look forward to visiting more than the Barn Steakhouse, just outside of Mount Gambier in regional South Australia.
Not only does The Barn consistently serve mouth-watering steaks that have regularly put the venue among South Australia's best steakhouses, the wine list is also outstanding.
Given its proximity to Coonawarra, it's no surprise that region's reds feature prominently.
There are also quality drops from across Australia and around the world, and patrons are encouraged to browse the cellar.
Not only is the wine list of the highest quality, the prices are more than reasonable.
On our most recent visit, I had the fillet mignon ($42) which was excellent as usual, while Vicki opted for the gorgonzola pocketed eye fillet ($42) which was up to its normal high standard.
We had two guests on the night who were also very happy with their prosciutto-wrapped chicken breast ($34).
For dessert we had a luxurious affogato ($15.50), a superb Bailey's creme brûlée ($14.50), and the cinnamon donuts ($14.50) which were the only disappointment on a great night.
Can't wait to go back.

A nice place to stop to sleep or stay several days.
Here you can have houses immersed in greenery, near Mount Gambier, choosing among the cheapest to real suites with all the comforts, staff friendly and helpful only flaw the reception is not open 24 hours but from 7 to 21 and a few days until A 22.
Nearby there are many Kangaroos ideal for photographing them. A place that I would definitely recommend.

Really nice rooms in a quiet spot. Reasonably priced. The real gem is The Barn Steakhouse, voted the best in the state. Beautiful cuts, perfectly cooked and a great experience. Will be coming back regularly.

Great, quiet, historic place for a relaxing stay. Was lucky enough to get a chance to dine here and cannot speak more highly of a restaurant! The meal was exquisite-one of the finest steaks I've eaten, cooked to perfection and so was all that accompanied it. Service was great too! First class food, be sure to make a booking as it is a very busy place.

Gorgeous room, flawless design, furnishings, even bathroom: Deluxe King Spa. Could be better, like having a toaster, breakfast bowls, and corresponding cutlery, tea mugs, bread plates… For the price of the room and their upmarket marketing… Considering it is in a country town, you'd think they want you to be self-sufficient.

My very first time visiting mount gamier and was not disappointed! This hotel was amazing, staff, food, room service! I couldn't of asked for a better hotel, felt more like a resort. Highly would recommend!

Stayed here for work and it was a great week. Deluxe room was huge and well appointed. Well cleaned throughout and has a massive window looking out over the English gardens. Room service dinners were amazing, try the prosciutto wrapped chicken breast! Breakfast was good too with choice of continental buffet or cooked to order hot breakfasts. Would highly recommend staying here over the other motels in town, well worth the short drive!

Beautiful room, booked last minute and had a great stay. The grounds were amazing.

Situated a little outside Mt Gambier on a beautiful and tranquil property. The room is a typical hotel/motel size, with a fresh paint job and the usual amenities. Noise from the hot water service and shower was very noticeable. Check in and check out was quick and easy.

Stayed here overnight while I toured Mt. Gambier. Check in was smooth with very professional and courteous staff. Room was basic but cozy and well appointed. Water taps made a rattling, whining noise. A bit disappointed that there was no free bottled water. Check out time (10 am) was too early.

Love this place. Have stayed here 3 x for work and won't stay anywhere else. Staff, rooms, gardens, restaurants & facilities are all top notch.

Room needed a little attention, stained curtains and damaged door. Rooms not as private as photos suggest, continual people walking past back door so have to keep curtains shut. Pretty busy, 4 car spaces but 5 rooms so had to park in another section. Service decent, comfy beds. Good but expected a little more considering the price and location isn't prime.

We found the Barn restaurant very disappointing. The person who greeted us and showed us to our table obviously didn't want to be there and we had to request something to put under the table leg to stabilize the table. The medium-rare steak was medium-RAW and the curried prawns seemed to be overcooked budget frozen food packet prawns. Very disappointing. The one shining light was our waitress. She was brilliant.

When serving drinks and meals service was prompt. Waitress was not sure of the soup of the day which did not instill confidence in the proposed meal however it was delicious.

One of the best steak in country town, place not big enough to house all the crowd who wants to dine there. Good problem to have though.

Clean, modern room. The shower was extremely loud, temperature and water pressure was very inconsistent. Could hear road traffic and the air conditioner from the next room through the night.

Boom… Best steak house in southern Australia. Wine selection is always enticing. Would get six stars if the sides selection had more greens (but you don't make friends with salad).

I stayed there for 3 days and it was good. Suites are well maintained and amazing inside. But the service is not good. Charging $200 a day and no service. Not even waters provided. I had a little girl and no place to heat milk. If you are charging so much of money at least should provide witg some breakfast. You go to india and stay in a 5 star and are charged with the same amount and they provide you with best food and services. Room services tea coffee… awesome breakfasts and dinners. Like 25 items to choice for both. Eat as much. It was just a well maintained place…

I love going to The Barn with my mum she stays there every month with work, my mum gets looked after very well when it is cold the staff even put the heater on ready for her especially when she arrives late and it is cold and dark, they also have the best free range barn laid poached eggs in the whole country we just love them, and I love to eat in the steakhouse the dianne sauce they give me for my snitty is the beast! Mum my swears by the fillet mignon and the tender chicken breast!

The accommodation was alright with no problems and they staff at breakfast were good.

The motel is ideally located for touring the area and drive along the Great Ocean Road. Great environment surrounded by greenery, very modern rooms equipped with every comfort. Highly recommended (somewhat pricey) restaurant where I ate one of the best steaks of my life!

Absolutely uncriticizable dinning experience according to price, service and food quality. Always wanted to go back but just too far for me. Do not expect 5 stars service in a country town steak house BUT the steak is going to get you back for more. I have been to so many high-end restaurants but the steak in this restaurant is just unbeatable. Medium price range for 5 stars hotel quality of food.

Google map got it wrong! We followed this map (B) to 'Nelson Rd' and could not find the place. If you're looking The Barn Restaurant up, it is the one shown on Punt Road. One of our steak required re-firing but service was excellent and the great re-fired one well worth the wait.
