Yo, this place is incredible! I love it! Super spacious rooms? Yes please, sign me up! Wonderful people there. The staff will make you laugh, and join you in kickass times. Really fun, family vibe with good day trips to the beautiful surrounding nature. I love these people and this place.

Most friendly staff members, excellent facilities, AWESOME POOL TABLE! pretty decent sized swimming pool too considering the size of this backpackers. For such a secluded place it has a LOT to offer!

Wonderful place and people.

Had a great stay there and came back later too because of the good experience. A good place to relax, since the house rules say “quiet” from 10pm, which we much appreciated. Nice pool, very clean showers and toilets, well equipped kitchens and run by kind owner. City center is just a 10 min walk. If we are back to Cairns we love to stay again.

Best hostel I've stayed in. The owners are amazing-the reason I keep going back to cairns! we pretty much lived I'm the pool there it was always so clean and quiet the no bunk beds is a plus, and private rooms are very reasonably priced.

Amazing hostel with great staff, felt like family! They'd go the extra mile for you and welcoming good ideas such as hiking or random BBQ's and help out with shuttle/tools or whatever you need. You can find there also work for accommodation if you need. Sundays are potluck nights which everyone eats together and Wednesday night everyone is going to the woolshed for free pizza and beer.
Great place to chill, find jobs (They got me multiple jobs around), good company, and pretty cheap.

Ended up staying here for an extended period working and living. I could not reccommend this place more. Everyone ends up becoming family and the owners will go out of their way do anything and everything for you. Great Wi-Fi, chill atmosphere, and everyones up for adventure. Very accepting of everyone, and there's even Honey the hostel hound, the cutest warm welcome you could want. Whenever in Cairns, I will be returning here.

Nice place to stay if you want to get a good night's sleep away from the city centre. Only a 20 minute walk into town with nice corner coffee places to stop at on the way.

Best place to stay. Super chilled hostel great people and clean facilities. This hostel offers everything what you could dream off. You will never regret to stay here. Especially because you can finish all your favourite series on netflix and you gonna leave as a pool professional (8ball). Both netflix and pool are FREE to use.

Friendly staff, very helpful! There are little ants everywhere but we got told that's normal so yea … Rooms are big cozy and have a nice shower!

Friendly Staff, they even showed us around. Room was clean but very small. Very nice shower! Kitchen is equipped with everything you need. It‘s a bit far away from the city, but they offer free bikes. That‘s pretty cool. Unfortunately I get woken up by some people at 2.30am who talked very loud in front of my room. But I definitely would stay again.

The room I stayed in was very spacious and cozy. I will probably stay in this backpackers again.

You feel at home right away at Castaways. We stayed with a group of 12 students. The staff went above and beyond to help us, even when they weren't working. The owner is living his dream running the hostel and it shows. The pool area, AV deck, outdoor kitchen all show how much he is investing back in creating a space for people to share. Thank you for accommodating us! You are lucky to stay here!

We did so many amazing things together and every Sunday we had a delicious BBQ. Now I have to leave but I definitely wanna come back as soon as possible.

I have never stayed in a Hostel before Castaways, this place has a wonderful staff and the owner Wayne was incredibly kind and helpful! It has everything you need and is great if you're traveling on a budget! A very Beach/Hippie vibe! Cairns is fantastic and I hope to be back to visit soon!

Wi-Fi is fast, clean and comfortable.
The bed here is not bunk, and the price is cheap.

Rooms are nice. Small clean place with NO bunk beds. Super friendly staff. Can book tours here. Fastest Wi-Fi I had in Australia.

If you search for a lovely, small and quiet hostel you schould check out Castaways Backpacker. They have no bunkbeds, every room has his own fridge and they have an outdoor kitchen as well. The Wi-Fi is super fast and stable, you can play Wii, biliard, watch movies in a verry comfi TV room or zap through netflix. You can relax at the poolarea with a good book from the bookexchange and meet everytime new people. And dont forgett to sign up for the sunday bbq.

We stayed 4 nights in a private double room. Staff is extremely friendly, they offer free billiard and the unlimited Wi-Fi is really fast! Small kitchen, but we enjoyed cooking there, really modern. The room itself was not the prettiest, but it was clean. We had our own fridge, but unfortunately it smelled extremely bad (maybe someone left bad food in it before? ). All in all, we can recommend this hostel for a few days in Cairns.

Loved staying here. Staff was super friendly and loved the atmosphere. Lots of benefits of staying here including awesome deals on nights out and reef tours. 100% would stay Again!

Castaways in my opinion is the best hostel in Cairns. The owners and staff are all down to earth people who treat everyone with total respect. Very knowledgeable on tours and anything that you wish to know about Cairns. They're always very happy to help. Definitely a place where you can make great friends for life. Everyone is so kind hearted and people are always talking about their travelling adventures. If you want a great hostel to stay at when you're in Cairns, I would highly recommend Castaways. Castaways is home away from home.

What an absolutely incredible hostel! Like so many have said, I came here for just a few weeks, never having been to Cairns, and stayed over 5 months in total! The hostel is run by genuine people who actually care for their guests and don't just see you as money like the bigger hostels do! Its located near to town but far enough away that you arent kept up by drunks all night, every week there are hostel events that bring everyone there together, even if you arrived that morning or afternoon! The sunday BBQ is divine and even after 5 months of being there they still managed to make it different and better from the week before! 100% recommend and 100% will stay again!

No bunk beds! Nice location. Fairly clean. Very attentive owner. Only let down was the girl on reception rushing to close and the three of us ended up in different rooms.

Such a great hostel, the staff were helpful, kind and genuine. I really enjoyed the size of the hostel and appreciated how they maintained the place and kept it clean. We took a few group trips to waterfalls and hikes, which was also really nice of them to organise. You can really tell the people working here care about us backpackers and want to make our home away from home comfortable. Definitely one of the most laid back and accommodating places I've spent my time in Aus! If I'm ever back in cairns, I know where I'll be staying.

Great hostel, friendly staff, good atmosphere and comfortable beds!

Excellent location for anyone arriving or leaving Cairns by airport. The whole place had a down-to-earth, grimy aesthetic but the rooms were adequately furnished and comfortable. The service was by far the best aspect of this hostel. The owners live on-site and went out of their way to help in any way they could, including lending us a vacuum cleaner to clean our car and even offering lifts to the airport. Overall, really great and would recommend.

What a little slice of Heaven! Tropical palms, great bbq facilities, clean, light and bright. Great relaxing atmosphere opposite public park. Nice security, nice balcony to enjoy a beer. 30 seconds to Liquorland for cheap liquid refreshments. Brilliant Indian restaurant next door but one. Close walking distance to everything and backpacker shuttle for free transport option around town. Mostly younger crew, odd older group welcomed in non — agist way. That's all.
