Reviews of Potters Apartments 3.5*
The mighty was included as a lunch destination as part of a wine tour. The wait time on the food was ridiculous and the food itself was a true testament to the inability of the chef to actually produce something that’s cooked correctly. Pulled pork taste like it was boiled, steak, couldn’t cook it properly to save his life, prawns are defrosted and barely cooked. I’d strongly suggest, if this is your destination lunch as part of a tour, get them to change it. Hands down, the hour and a half it took to get the food wasn’t worth it.
Fantastic service, lovey interactions and awesome beers for an arvo after work. Food was delicious and quick. Couldn’t recommend a better pub! Heard good things are coming as well👀
Ordered lunch for the kids. Kids meals and hot chips. Waited an hour and still no food. Every time we asked where it was they said 10-15 mins. After an hour and a half cancelled it and got out money back. Would not go back.
Fantastic venue, held my daughters 18th party there last weekend, food was amazing and the staff were super helpful and nothing was a problem … absolutely highly recommend 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Tbh … for such a big place and high end advertising have to say pretty average food … lovely friendly staff but def wouldnt rush back sorry.
Fantastic craft beer. Awesome food. Great staff.
It was a limited menu, but overall it was great food, with great service. Great atmosphere. It was covid friendly. We sat inside and it was away from others. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Great service. Was offered tastings of beer to try before buying… good food great atmosphere.
Highly recommend this establishment when you visit the Hunter Valley. Great location, great vibes, amazing service and the most genuine staff. In particular the manager on duty, I can’t thank you enough for going out of your way when you had absolutely no obligation and making my families experience such a memorable one. Great leadership, makes sense why the venue has such a positive atmosphere. Forever grateful 🙏
Ordered the steak and was delightfully surprised by the quality, and astounded with the potato bake…. It was delicious! Shame that the atmosphere was poor, no music etc.
They had forgotten our order and the food was not up to quality and price. Chicken schnitzel was not cooked and the steak burger was expensive and super thin. 0/10 would not recommend.
The venue is nice and relaxed despite all the rules and regulations for covid
nice clean.
I don't recommend the food though
wasn't much to choose from, I had chicken snitzel with chips and salad
chicken was as dry as an old boot
the salad was just lettuce with a bit of dressing.
We were there last weekend. Staff were friendly, service was good but the food was average. My husband and I ordered the lamb to share, it was dry and for $78 very average we took the leftovers home for our cat, we told the waitress but no one said anything about it.
We ordered the kids cheeseburger and it came out as a slider (should have said slider) with 1/2 a meat patty on it.
The kids area consisted of a sml cubby house which again wasn’t great. It’s a shame because we are there several times before it changed hands and it was always good.
Always great food every time I eat here! One of my Fav places in the Hunter. The Chicken Wings are AMAZING!
Great spot, lots of atmosphere.
Was by far the worst food I’ve ever had never had $24 for this crap and wasn’t even cooked properly wife had the chicken sliders and the chicken was brown best part about lunch was the can of Coke I had how the reviews say the food was good they definitely have not been to a good place to eat never will I be back again so many more good pub feeds in Cessnock that actually know how to cook.
Absolutely loved every meal — service staff friendly and helpful — we’ll be back.
Went with my 7 year old son after a full on day at Hunter Valley Gardens. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was great, beer was cold. All in all a positive experience. Will definitely be back 😉
Great customer service from the moment we arrived. Food was also fast and enjoyable.
The live music was really horrible (blues) not the kind of music you can sing along to or have a little dance too.
Also the courtesy bus driver was extremely rude and arrogant.
A way to ruin a good night!
Great food excellent service relaxed atmosphere.
Great experience friendly customer service.
The great service & delicious food… oh… and the fantastic beers!
The service was fantastic! Staff couldn’t have been more friendly or accomodating. Food was delish and straight to our table in no time :)
The service here was outstanding. Nothing was a hassle. The food was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be back.
Food is beautiful
The best service everybody that works there is amazing especially Brody who went out his way to makes us feel welcome and provided exceptional service,
This is our third visit and every time it’s been amazing.
Great meal every time staff very accomodating.
$18 for a schooner of cider and a schooner of beer… food over priced $27 for small piece of salmon that came only with a pile of green salad leaves… such a shame previous visits were far better.
Really enjoyed our meal. The staff were friendly although when we asked for a coffee, it was about 2.30, they could provide a cappuccino as they had run out of milk. But I guess that’s a sideline, other than that it was a nice place to be on a wet afternoon. Very welcoming.
Great takeaway… huge burger that was awesome and yummy pizza.
Amazing staff looked after us and the food is absolutely delicious.
Great atmosphere and seems lots of people enjoy going there to relax drink and enjoy themselves with friends. Lovely spot.
Friendly Staff Great Food and Relaxing will go again.
Great place for a beer and food…
Terrible food, loud atmosphere. Too commercial.
Terrible rooms. Extremely small and old fashioned bathrooms with tiny shower head and shower. Expensive for what you get. Trivago advertised room looked completely different to what we got.
We visited Potters Restaurant over the weekend for a Family Christmas function. I had ordered Chicken bites and chips for my two year old. Thank god I decided to pull apart the nuggets before feeding them to him as they were RAW. No apology from the restaurant staff, I just received my money back. Our main meals were very average as well. We will not be going back.
Love the decor with its artifacts, something for everyone with multiple bar and dining areas. Kids playground where parents can observe. Great food and service. Attentive staff, thanks all.
Rooms were horrible dirty couldn't close the door with out the dead bolt highly unsafe floor was black carpet was horrible plaster all over the floor holes in the walls bed was dirt and stinks 275$ a night horrible wasn't the only one with this problem.
Best food, great staff and good beer selection.
The food delish, beer crafts done well and staff friendly and helpful. A must see when in the Hunter Valley.
Great beer, great staff, had a great time.
The food was excellent and serving sizes were large. Very fast service and value for money.
Awesome place to chill with a quality beer & food.
Excellent… accommodation is fantastic, the bar staff are brilliant and the food is good — great place to stay in the Hunter.
Lovely place to grab something nice to eat, very kid friendly and awesome staff. Enjoyed our lunch.
Very bad bar staff. Rude and uncalled for. Have been here 6 times and the drinks still not made properly. However the food is great. Not good enough for our group to come back again.
We had an amazing night for a bride and bride hens night-. Unfortunately the security guard informing us of last drinks and to leave was extremely rude and demeaning.
A beautiful place in the heart of the Hunter Valley, delicious food and friendly staff, highly recommend ordering the Pot Pie.
Food terrible, manager a rude and angry little lady who didn’t take feedback.
After suggesting potters to some friends while here in the hunter valley for a golf day we went there for lunch. I ordered fish and chips. It was so over cooked, and the worst fish and chips ever seen. I took it back to the restaurant to ask for a replacement. The angry little lady took it into the chef, who didn’t see the need to come out and look at the food, nor apologise about it. She said he was too busy! Too busy burning and over cooking another meal no doubt. After that, I asked for a refund. I asked again if the chef was cooking out. The little angry manager raised her voice and said he is busy!
Definitely a terrible experience and made worse by the attitude of the manager and lack of care from the so called chef. I wont recommend that place again, nor spend my money there. I would rather scratch my eyes out with a blunt spoon than eat or visit there again.
Amazing staff! Had my partner's 21st lunch and the staff members insisted to sing happy birthday! She was so surprised and loved it!
Great food but very disappointed by how we were treated. I organised Potter's for a lunch stop for my birthday. My partner rang up the day prior to organise the cakes to be brought out, plated and ready to cut. After our meal, someone brought the cakes out still in the bags and asked 'whose cakes are these', which ruined the surprise he tried to organise. Once we finished our food, we went outside to enjoy the afternoon sun and were told we have to leave, due to 'aggressive behaviour'. I queried this with them and asked them to tell me who was being aggressive. It was no one from my group. I was also told to go check on one of my friends in the bathroom as she was 'throwing up'. Went in there and she was just on her phone and fixing up makeup, but they assumed because she had been in there for while that was why. Would not come back again, my birthday afternoon was ruined for how my group and I was treated. Potters will ruin their reputation if they continue to treat paying guests in that manner.
The local brewery. Great historical buildings. Good pub food. Great buzz on Fr/Sat nights. Legend.
We had a lovely lunch at Potters. The 4 meals we got were very nice, large servings, and presented well. They all came out fairly quickly. The price was good as well. I then purchased some beer from the brewery itself. These were reasonably priced.
The accommodation is definitely not worth the price. For $150 per night I expected a room a bit more modern. It's very out dated. The bed is rock hard and there is no hot water (we stayed in winter) on the plus side there is a mini fridge. Kettle. Toaster. Tea and coffee plus milk and sugar. The brewery and pub/restaurant is fantastic. Great place to come for the day/evening.
Went for dinner. Meal was decently priced and well cooked. Ordered a steak medium and it was very nice. On the way out I saw another table had ordered a pizza and it looked STACKED with toppings. Definitely want to come back and try one of those the next time.
We were incredibly disappointed with the level of cleanliness at this "resort". Our checkin/arrival was late in the afternoon/early evening. When we entered the room where we were greeted by a used disposable ravour in the bathroom bin, dead bugs in the bath itself, and cobwebs and dust in the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. The room did not at all feel or smell fresh or clean like you would expect. Due to dim lighting, it was not until the morning that we saw the DIRT, and by dirt I mean built up dirt on the window sills, more dead bugs, and mould on the inside of the big light filled bedroom glass window (not somewhere mould grows overnight) and the filth of food/fat and spills down the kitchen cupboards. We ventured outside and headed for the pool, which would be better described as a duck pond. It was also filthy and green, and not somewhere I would swim or expect anyone else would want to either (unless you were a duck or frog). There was alot of animal droppings both in and surrounding the pool and it appeared to have been that way for sometime. There was no sincerity behind the reluctant apology but to be honest I felt as though complaints from unhappy guests was a common thing, I do know we were not the only unhappy guests at this time. The only positive experience we had was breakfast in the restaurant. Unfortunately we will not return, nor would we recommend to anyone thinking of staying.

Absolutely rank. The venue smells like mould. The staff were racist. Refused service due to my heritage. Told me I smelt like curry powder. Asked our family to leave the venue as they said we were dot heads. Very offensive. There was a pig nosed freckley girl who was the most horrible. Very sad. Never again.
Ordered a steak, tasted like dog poo. How can you even serve this rubbish. The red headed waitress was rude and had bad hygiene. I think she had head lice. DEFINTELY DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A GOOD MEAL! If you Iike to enjoy a good afternoon with a beer and laughter, don’t come here — they hate happiness and will take it from you! They steal your soul.
I had the pot pie! It looks really nice but taste like average pie. The place was overcrowded and I really recommend booking in advanced in you don't want to lool for free table. My wife had chicken parmigiana and it was good. The chicken was juicy and plenty of sauce amd cheese. I wish I had that instead of the pie.
Breakfast was good, tennis court was good, rooms were big. Pretty good staff. Overall good experience.
Great design and traditional style pub and restaurant With open spaces both indoor and outdoor areas. Beer tasting is a must when you are there. The food was ok but Could have been better, staff are nice and friendly and there is accomodation if you wanted to stay the night around hunter valley area.
Stayed over the Easter break in a villa room, was expecting much more for the $210.00 a night that we payed. The room was no bigger than a standard room. There was only one chair for two people. Couldnt open the double door without a thousand mosquitos flying in. The kitchen was tiny, had to use the toaster on the sink because there was no bench space. There was no large plates in the cupboard. Went to use the bbq and because of the holiday we werent notified that office would be closed so we couldnt PURCHASE tokens for the bbq, staff at the brewery were very unhelpful. The small pool was dirty. The worst thing was that there was No WI FI in the room. Expected much more wont be staying there again.
Food and beer was great. Cheap tasting board of beer, great assortment. Medium steak was appropriately cooked with a crusty outside. Definitely would come here again the next time I'm in the area.
After moving to the area 3 years ago we have been to the restaurant many times and find the menu getting a bit old your specials board is good but your base menu need a update it has not changed. You also could do with a hamburger option on the menu as well. The beer is great.
WOW DISGRACEFUL! I can honestly say this was the most horrid dining experience I’ve ever been subjected to in my 35 years. Now I do realize that this is not a Michelin starred restaurant, but dear me, I also think that you can expect some sort of standard when you go out to eat. After waiting for 1 hour and 40 mins, we were served completely burnt steaks which were charred on the the outside and tasted distinctly of propane. We tried and could not cut through it with a knife. When we politely mentioned it to the server we were rudely corrected by the chef who indicated that the burnt flavor was due to the fact that we ordered well done steaks and refereed to us as f***ing animals before throwing the plate on the kitchen bench. I was so shocked by his response I was speechless. When I tried to complain to the manager she was disregardful while the bartender girls continued to mock us amongst themselves to our face. The food at this place is utterly foul and the service is just as bad. If you charge people, you must give something back. I’ve never had a worse dining experience. Ever. The whole thing was nothing short of a nightmare. Too bad because it’s a great location and lots of potential, with a new manager, a new chef and some basic customer service training for staff they could do well.
BE WARNED! Worst experience ever! The steak was so tough that you couldn’t even cut through it. Took it back and the chef swears and gives us attitude, spoke to the manager and she was even worse! I’ll don’t understand what sort of chef can’t even cook a steak. Or deep fry a fish. Fish was so old and soggy. You can definitely tell it’s all frozen. If you want to have a good meal or a fun night make sure you don’t go to this place.
A fantastic venue if you have a young family. Excellent play area, all kids meals come with colouring in and an ice-cream voucher. The beer is fantastic for mums and dads too.
Beer and entertainment is great, accommodation is good, food is average for the area. They need to serve comparable food for this region.
Great pub and awesone facilities. Rooms clean and maintained well. Close to hunter valley vineyards. Would recommend.
Went today for a family lunch of 14 plus, food was very ordinary considering the amount of kitchen staff … floor staff absolutely lovely and friendly… but seafood $28 disgusting the 3 prawns were dripping of water and had no taste, these three meals were left basically untouched… the chicken snitzys and pork belly cooked perfectly but the steak was left as friend said it was tuff and burnt on one side … we are not stuckup and we're a group from all walks of life … but as I said before your staff were wonderful … I also think when over $500 spent on meals to be told if I wanted some bread and butter plates to put cake on that asking a $1 plate was ridiculous.
Thank you to Kasey and staff our wedding on October 21 went off without a drama. Beautiful location, delicious food and amazing/friendly staff. Could not recommend them highly enough.
Ordered a medium rare steak… it was well done and little bit burnt on underside. Menu says rare roast beef salad… meat was tough. Hot chips had a weird taste to them… maybe because of the charcoal taste in my mouth. Ordered the beer tasting player and it was such a task to remove the glasses from the paddle and ended up wasting beer due to spilage. I think the paddles are swollen from being washed. Been here before and had Good experience… the ball was dropped this time… did not enjoy.
I would drop the term 'Resort' because it is not. Just a pub with apartments.
Stayed 4 nights bed made once. Couldn't open windows or doors because there were no screens and the room filled with bugs. Not to mention being woken on two consecutive mornings, 7am & 6.20 am by the smoke alarm going off in our room and the one next door. One lounge chair in room so had to sit on bed. Would have loved a swim but neither pool had been vacuumed. Needs a make over big time. Not a resort.
Would have loved a bit of empathy from reception regarding alarms. Would have loved a sleepin.
Food was terrible. I had the tempura seafood special. It sounded very inviting. After messing up my order I got shark and crumbed calamari very disappointing. I complained to Gilllian the Pubs Duty MGR tonight… her response was “I will pass that onto the kitchen… ” complacent Cessnock service. Hunter Valley tourism and those who Holiday here deserve better.
Nice atmosphere and wode selection o boutique beers. Very enjoyable family friendly venue.
I gave this one star as that's the lowest I could select. Went for breakfast this morning and to say it was awful would be a compliment. Overpriced, stale, and terrible quality are just a few descriptions. Also probably the worst coffee I've ever been served. We're locals and if this is what this place is serving up it definitely won't get return customers.
The food was atrocious. Pot pie was clearly microwaved and burnt black at the bottom. Lamb rump was half fat and not cooked evenly, the fat was not rendered. For 26-30 dollars a main this was the worst kind of touristy rip off I've experienced and I've been to the Gold Coast.
Great service, great rooms, awesome entertainment. Very pleasant staff. Highly recommend.
Had lunch at the bistro which had nice flavour. Jamaican chicken is a must try. Not a beer drinker, but the staff at the brewery know their stuff about beer and it's notes. Good value.
Recently visited for family lunch. Food portions are large and good value for money. Food is nice but nothing outstanding. Large venue and great for the kids to run around outside. Nice little brewery attached which has different beers on to the main bar so make sure you check it out. Will defiantly return.
Myself and three friends decided to stop by for a meal at Potters Brewery. I've never tried raw bacon before, until it was served on my "Seattle chicken sandwich". I once made bruschetta in year 3 food tech class under broad supervision in a public school with limited resources that tasted and looked better than the one I got served with. All meals were served in 3 minutes aka in and out of the microwave. Considering we spent $130 between 4 of us I expected better service/meals. Never again.
Very nice little place to stay at overnight. Open area, very quiet. The food in the bistro is very good and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is rustic. Rooms are well resourced with all the mod cons one could want and the water pressure in the shower was excellent. My only downer was that the bed was a little too much on the firm side and the pillows were not supportive. I would recommend bringing along your own travel mattress topper and pillow if you have one.
We shared two paddles between a group of four of us, delicious! Staff very friendly and happy to tell us about each brew and/or leave us to our tasting.
I slept here for one night only. I checked in late at night and left before sunrise so my review is purely on the room itself and the service at reception which was very friendly. I stayed in Room 3 which had two single beds and a bathroom with toilet, shower and vanity. It was very basic and something you would expect from a cheap motel. They had an air conditioner which we had to warm the room. The beds were ok in comfort for a quick sleep but I'm glad I brought my own pillow because the two provided were extremely hard. The room had a small fridge, iron, ironing board, hair dryer, toaster and kettle. They also provided your basic coffee and tea and a couple of biscuits. The fridge had water bottles in there for $3.
My go to place in the hunter valley. Great food, beer and atmosphere.
Great place for dinning and drinks. Best beer in the area.
Clean and comfortable accommodation in a convenient location. Also great to have a restaurant and a brewery within the resort. You cam taste the beers and walk back to your room without concerning about RBT.
Had a great day here. Food was fantastic and the kids had an awesome time playing. Drinks were a little pricey, but in line with the high prices of the area.
Great tasting paddle! Great atmosphere! Will definitely be back!
Stopped over for a brew, large function area great for parties and weddings. The service was average, bar person didn't talk to us about the local brew which was a shame. Accommodation site looked clean and well maintained from the outside. Didn't stay overnight therefore can't comment further.
Decent range of food at good prices. Nothing stand out. The draw card of this place is definitely the beers. The tasting paddle is a must.
Food last time was amazing. This time it was less then average. Left half. Kitchen argued when I said my order was wrong. Even dessert was very average when last time it was one of the best I have had. Won't be back for a while. Accommodation had no complaints. Very neat tidy room and comfy bed.
I read all the reviews… and I am wondering if it is the same place that we are all staying. Yes the staff are friendly… yes there is a swimming pool, tennis court and a spa… but that's where the similarity ends! Our rooms whilst comfortable, have no fly screens on ANY windows. The light fittings have not been cleaned out since the last millennium and have a deep accumulation of bugs. The bathroom slider door was dirty, but wasn't noticeable till you closed the door, which is what one does when using the bathroom. My husband dropped some cream on the bathroom floor and when I cleaned it up I noticed and clean patch where I had wiped, so the bathroom floor hadn't been cleaned properly either. The front door of our unit won't close unless you lock it and there is a terrible draft that comes in from under the door. We have a party of 30 staying at the "Resort", two of them had no hot water for two nights running, and were told to shower in the amenities block, till the problem was fixed. The food in the restaurant are large servings, but no cooked breakfast in the morning, even though this is what we were told we could have. One night I asked for pizza and asked if the capsicum could be left off, I was told that all the food is pre made so it's not possible. Hotel/Motel it may be… but it is definitely NOT a Resort!
Beautiful relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, Terrific yummy food on my top 5 favorite places to take friends and family and know that they will love it. Try it promise you wont be disappointed. They have a wonderful inside / outside dining area. Playground area for the little ones. Aaaaa+.
What a great resort! Rooms were clean and generous, staff were helpful. Resort is close to everything and the added bonus was the spa and pool area. Family friendly and also a great place to stay for a weekend away.
What Great place to visit Some amazing beers to drink and good food Will return again and with accommodation might even stay the night.
Tourist trap. Generic pub, betting faculties etc. Staff unhelpful. Ginger beer is Carlton draught with hint of ginger. Expensive meals. Rare steak was well done, no hint of pink.
The Good :: The serving sizes were generous. The menu was a good variety of pub grub. I had the pulled pork salad which appeared as a mountain of food. The size of the steak my partner had was ginormous. The Bad :: The Ginger Ale tasted like cheap beer with a dash of ginger syrup added. The steak was overcooked. Very commercial. The prices were the most reasonable we've seen in the Hunter Valley so far.
Loved how the rooms are spread out. Our room was spacious. Only a short walk to good food and good beer!. Enjoyed our stay and will we stay there again.
Wow, best pub food ever. Just had the Squid and it was the most tender, amazing squid I have ever had. Only problem was my husband and kids kept stealing it so I ended up with half as much as I started with. The pizza was also amazing as was the steak sandwich. Definitely coming back again.
