Turner Field is a former baseball stadium located in the city of Atlanta, Georgia. The stadium was originally built in 1996 as the main venue for the Summer Olympics that were held in Atlanta that year. After the Olympics, the stadium was converted into a baseball stadium and became the home of the Atlanta Braves, a Major League Baseball team.
The stadium was named after Ted Turner, the founder of Turner Broadcasting System, who was a major contributor to the construction of the stadium. The stadium had a seating capacity of over 50,000 and was known for its unique design that featured a large scoreboard in center field and a large video board in left field.
Turner Field was the home of the Atlanta Braves for over 20 years, hosting many memorable games and events. The stadium was also used for other events such as concerts, college football games, and even a presidential speech by Barack Obama in 2011.
In 2017, the Atlanta Braves moved to a new stadium, SunTrust Park, and Turner Field was sold to Georgia State University. The university has since converted the stadium into a football stadium and has plans to use the surrounding area for mixed-use development.
Despite no longer being the home of the Atlanta Braves, Turner Field remains an iconic landmark in the city of Atlanta and a reminder of the many great moments that took place within its walls.
